Mac to PC using iChatAV3

For the past year and a half I have been able to have a video chat from my iMac to friends in Romania. I was using a cable internet connection.
Due to relocation to an area where cable is not available I have been forced to go to an ADSL connection
Although I can still have video chats with Mac users I am unable to do so with my friends on a PC.
Can anyone help?

I am having similar issues. I am using iChat on an Imac intel core duo trying to audio and video chat with my dad who is using AIM triton on an HP laptop. We have no problem instant messaging. When one of us invites the other to an audio or video chat and it is accepted both machines read "connecting" then on the PC the message that pops up is "an unknown failure has occured". On my iMac what I get is that he has declined the invitation. If he invites me and I accept he gets the same message and I get that I declined the invitation.
I am able to connect with both audio and video chats with no problem to a G3 Power Book also using iChat.
We are both connected wirelessly through a 2 Wire router. At the moment we are in the same location, but he will be returning home in a couple of days where he will be using a linksys router.
He is running Norton, but we tried turning off the firewall and intrussion protection.
Any ideas how to get this to work?

Hmmm... So you upgraded Firefox and now neither Firefox or Safari will work? Very weird. I have no idea what might have gone wrong. That said, when things start acting wierd, I always try a bit of maintenance first. About 95% of the time, I luck out and it works.
I use the free program Onyx. I run all the clean up routines. Then I boot to the recovery partition (Lion) or the OS X Install Disc and repair permissions and verify/repair the hard disk.

Install ClamXav and run a scan with that. It should pick up any trojans.

I have downloaded for 12 hours initial installation on one mac for mavericks, and all installed successfully. Rather than download again for another mac, can I use the same download and copy on to the other mac..and if yes, where will I find it?

All you need to do is go to System Preferences > App Store and uncheck the automatic install of updates box, then download the Mavericks installer, and copy to a flash drive. You will need a flash drive of 8 G B or more since the installer is around 5.3 GB. The installer will be in Finder > Applications. You can then copy that flash drive installer to the Applications folders in all the Macs you have that are capable of running Mavericks, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842.
When the installer runs, the last step in the installtion is for the installer to erase itself. So makng a copy before the installer runs is essential if you want to avoid redownloading.
Installing from the same installer does not cause problems for Macs on the same network.

Get a MacBookPro 17" and upgrade to FCP5.1
You need the 17" to get the firewire 800 port - necessary if you want to edit anything more than DV or HDV.
The upgrade from FCP4 to FCP5.1 is very inexpensive now (offer expires in mid December) and you would be very foolish to not do it.

It is not clear how or where you "added" your email, but you cannot create an Apple ID using an email address that is already associated with another Apple ID.
If that is what you did, delete that email address from your family's Apple ID. You should be free to create a new one.
Do all that by starting here: https://appleid.apple.com/
Select "Manage your Apple ID". Log in with your family's Apple ID and then delete your own email address wherever it appears.
Save Changes, log out, and create the new one using the same website. This time select "Create an Apple ID".
Please don't forget your security questions, and be sure to specify a "rescue email address" that is separate from all other Apple IDs. You will avoid so many problems that way...

If you are using the 2nd or 3rd gen Apple TV (little black box) then it would have no syncing or storage capability.
iTunes content would be accessed using home sharing.

1. Yes, if both drives are formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
2. Reformat the drives if needed, open the Time Machine pane of System Preferences, and remove the drive with the pictures from the list of items set to be excluded.

I have a mackbook pro and an iMac if I buy a time capsule 2tb airport, I can use it with time machine and what would be the best way to use it.
There is no particular setup required for TM.. both computers will create their own backup sparsebundle which is like a virtual disk.. Pondini explains the whole thing if you read the reference I gave you.

Up to you.. you can plug the external drive into the TC and enjoy really slow file transfers or you can plug it into your computer and use it as external drive.. which is faster than the TC.. and TM can include it in the backup.
Again everything is explained in the reference.. you are not reading it.
