Mac to sony bravia

Just bought a sony bravia xbr55hx950 TV
The TV does not play flash.
How can I stream internet video content via  my MacBook to the TV. Episodes of Orphan Black from space.ca.
Is there a cable I need to get?
Do I need to get Apple TV?
Advice much appreciated.

Your system has a mini-displayport output, so you will need either a mini-Displayport to HDMI, or a mini-Displayport to VGA adapter along with either an HDMI or VGA cable. The adapters are ~$30 separately from Apple, though there are third-party ones available for about half to a third that price (or even less). The cables will be around $5-10 for cheap but usable ones.

  • Stream music from my RDIO client on mac to Sony bravia

I would like to be able to stream the music I hear on my mac (not mp3) to the Sony bravia, which has a DNLA and WiFi. Most of my music is consumed via the RDIO service, which streams the music to the mac and now I want to be able to stream it to the TV, which is connected to the Onkyo receiver.
    Your help is appreciated.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Mac Mini - Sony Bravia display issue

I connected the above 32" HDTV to my Mac mini using the DVI - HDMI configuration and has worked perfectly.
However, after reboot during the recent software update (14/05/09) the resolution changed and I have now lost about an inch from the perimeter which is mighty annoying. I have tried various display settings but none of them works correctly.
Can anyone suggest a reason for this?
Just before the update I deleted an old user that I hadn't used in a long time. Could this be relevant?

Exactly the same problem here, but no changes made (ie i did not delete any users etc.).
I performed the upgrade to 10.5.7 on Monday 11th May and since then the screen resolution has not been the same. i have tried all options with overscan, no overscan etc. and the quality is dire on the only usable option which (for me) is 1280x720 with no overscan (and 50Hz too).
The picture quality (does this mean the driver? presume so?) is awful. I also noticed that my Sony 32" TV now displays 1080p when the Mac Mini first boots and previously (with the earlier driver) it displayed 720p - so maybe the driver upgrade had added the 1080p option/capability, however my TV can't display 1080p as it is native 720 but it does downscale extremely well (normally) - and it does a good job of that with other attached devices so I know it's the Mac Mini at fault.
I've logged the problem with Apple but haven't connected with anyone who has a clue yet...
If I hear more I'll report it here.
Would love to go back to the old driver, this quality of the display output is now awful, truly awful. Wonder if there is a way to do that...
    Rob.

  • Macbook to Sony Bravia - Problems

    Hey -
So I'm trying to connect my Macbook (I got this back in like 2006-2007?) to my Sony Bravia TV. I have the current set-up:
VGA Cable connected from the back of the TV to a Mini-DVI-to-VGA connector to the MacBook. When I plug it in, the Macbook detects it (since I can see the MacBook screen adjusting to it) but when I go to find it on the TV (Input/Source), the "PC" option is grayed out. I've been trying everything (Detect Display, etc) for the Bravia to detect it but no dice. Any help would be great.
For the time being, I'm using a S-Video to Mini-DVI-to-S-Video adapter to the MacBook but the quality is really poor (except when watching movies).
Is there something else that I need to do?
    Thanks!
    Albert

    hello, people.
I'm trying to sync my mac to Sony Bravia as well.
    And it was tough.
But on my last try I find a way.
You have to put a resolution 640 x 480 on your mac
    and 1920 x 1080 on Sony TV.
After that, you have to go on menu of your TV and follow the steps:
ajustes > canais de entrada > controle de entradas
I know the names in portuguese.
But in english should be the same.
And set you PC from AUTO to "SEMPRE"
The TV is already set on AUTO (automatic)
It works and I really happy.
I wish it works for you too
    Good luck

  • How do connect my sony bravia tv as a monitor screen for mac pro

How do I connect my Sony Bravia tv as a monitor for my MacBook Pro? I have an hdmi lead with an adapter to the computer and get a picture of factory setting cosmos with some of the folders of my desktop going off the side of the tv screen.

If you have the right cable, and have set the right input on your Sony, then you need to adjust one thing.  Go to System Preferences>Displays>Set Mirroring.  I think you've got it set to Extended desktop, which means the Sony is just a HUGE extension of your Mac OSX desktop.
    That should fix your issue.

  • Hi all, I'm trying to connect my macbook pro to Sony Bravia tv using Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support , when connected to the HDMI on tv I get a picture of the mac screen saver ( the starburst ) no video/audio,thanks, Derek

Hi all, I'm trying to connect my macbook pro to Sony Bravia tv using Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support , when connected to the HDMI on tv I get a picture of the mac screen saver ( the starburst ) no video/audio,any ideas? thanks, Derek

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.
    Good luck Derek

I purchased a HDMI cable to watch movies and slide shows from my mac book pro to my Sony Bravia TV. I get picture through the TV but no sound. What am I doing wrong?

Go to sounds in system pref and select outputs. When the hdmi cable is plug into the tv it will show as an option under output. Just select that option.

  • Cant connect my Sony Bravia to my mac.

I'm having trouble connecting my sony bravia tv (KDL-32BX300) to my mac. I have tried pretty much everything and have used the cable on other tv's with my mac anyone have any idea what the problem is? My mac can't find the tv at all.
    Any help would be great

    According this: https://docs.sony.com/release/specs/KDL32BX300_mksp.pdf
That Tv is not a full HD TV, only 720p and as such may not be able to support the Mac's full resolution.
You may need to lower the resolution on the Mac to get it to work. According to the specs, this is its maximum resolution: 1366 X 768p
Depending on which adapter you are using may also be hat resolution you get. HDMI outputs at 1080p by default which your TV cannot support.

  • Cannot Connect Imac 24" via mini dvi to HDMi adapter cable to Sony Bravia 3

    Hello Everyone,
I'm having the worst time in trying to connect the following:
    1. Imac 24" 3.06 dual with dvi connection
    2. Mini dvi to HDMI adapter (this mac with this connection was produced only for a short while!).
    3. 10' (foor) HDMI wire
    3. Sony Bravia 32" model KDL32L-5000 with 3 HDML connections
i.When I wire everything up, I keep getting"no signal" on my Sony Bravia TV.
ii. It doesn't matter whether I connect the HDMI wire to HDMI 1,2, or 3 on my Sony
iii. On my Imac Hard Drive>>Applications>>System Preferences>>Displays
all I get is a list of different resolutions. There is no mention or mirrors etc.
Nothing happens when I press "Gather Windows" or Detect Displays"
Can someone out there please help!!!!!
Can you also give any solution in very simple and small detailed steps!
    Thanks,
    Stacey Bindman
    Montreal

Majortrout, there is a major disconnect going on here.
    1. You are showing an Ebay link with a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter.
    2. You report that you have an Early '09 24" iMac.
    3. That iMac does not have a mini-DVI port. That iMac has a mini-DispayPort.
    4. You need a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
It is physically impossible to attach the adapter to which you link at Ebay to your iMac. So you need to take a step back and figure out what you really have; which iMac, which adapter, etc.

  • How to connect a Sony Bravia TV to the internet through your Airport network

Since it took me a lot of time to figure out how to connect my Sony Bravia TV to the internet through my Airport network, I better share how to do it. Hopefully saving others a lot of time.
My 32EX600 Sony Bravia TV is Ethernet connected to my Mac Mini, which is part of my Airport network, together with another Mac, an Airport Extreme Base Station and an ADSL modem/router. Moreover, the Mac Mini is connected to the TV by HDMI.
Whatever I tried in the TV’s Wired Network Set-up (Auto, or Manual with manual IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS IPs), I couldn’t get it right. Cable Connection and Local Access were mostly OK, Internet Access always Failed.
The solution lies in the Sharing panel of the System Preferences of the Mac Mini. In the Internet Sharing item of that panel, you should choose to “share your internet connection from WiFi to computers (the TV in this case) using Ethernet“, and NOT (as I had chosen before and seemed so obvious) “share your internet connection from Airport to computers using Ethernet“. After that change, the Bravia Network Set-up, using the Wired and Auto options, flawlessly connected to the internet. No expensive (Sony) WiFi USB dongle needed.

I have now had a detailed reply from Sony Europe and the way to do this is to:
    1.       Press Home on the TV Setup
    2.       Use the right and left arrow to select Setting.
    3.       Use the up and down to select Network, press Enter.
    4.       Select Network Setup.
    5.       Select Wireless setup.
    6.       Select Scan
    7.       Select your network
    8.       A new screen will appear asking for entering the security key.
    9.       Enter your WPA2 key.
    10.   Select Enter.
    11.   It will take you back to the same screen asking for entering the
    security key.
    12.   Press the right arrow.
    13.   Select Auto.
    14.   Press the right arrow.
    15.   Select Save and connect.
These instructions are not the same as shown on the TV but they worked fine for me so they may help others with a similar problem.

  • I have a 2008 black macbook and access UK tv through a purchased proxy site. I want to buy a sony bravia internet connected tv to watch the channels in more comfort. Sony tell me this won't work - that the tv cannot capture my macbook content. Any advice?

I have a 2008 black MacBook and acess UK tv through a puchased proxy. I want to purchase a Sony Bravia internet connected tv and stream the site through a tv - Sony tell me this won't work - that a latest model tv cannot capture content and sites from a MacBook - is this true???? Surely there is a solution? Any help or advice welcome.

They are correct.  The only stream you can wireless connect the TV to a Mac is through an AppleTV, and that's purchased content on iTunes, and your own homemade content that is H.264 MPEG-4 that is 1800kbps.   Conversion of commercial video to that format is illegal, and hence how can not be stated on the forum.    Alternatively, as long as the TV is HDMI, you can wired connect it to your MacBook using the same advice here:

  • How to connect with sony bravia.

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect my Mac pro with my Sony Bravia LCD TV. I bought a MiniDP to VGA cable and I already had a VGA extension to connect with my TV. I used to use that cable to connect my other laptop and worked ok with frequent "no synchronisation". Once I connected all, nothing happened. I restarted the PC but nothing happened. I tried to play around with all connection, but nothing happened. I do use windows XP in my mac pro as well and it didnt work their either although my other PC working fine with same VGA cable. I'm not very sure my MiniDP to VGA cable is working or not? Is there anyway I can check its working. Also, someone (sorry forgot the name) in the forum said, HDMI works better then VGA. What do I have to do to connect my PC through HDMI. Is there any direct cable to connect MiniDP and HDMI? Thanks for your help.

The best way to test if the VGA adapter is bad or not is to try it with another display, preferably a computer monitor instead of a TV. If it doesn't work with a monitor, then that's stronger evidence the adapter is bad.
There are MiniDP to HDMI adapters. Here's an example of one. I believe this company will ship internationally. You might be able to find UK sources for similar adapters.
