MAC to TV projection

For several months, I have been projecting successfully from my MACBook Pro to a TV, and on other occasions to an overhead projector.  Suddenly, the projection is no longer working.  I was projecting from the output port immediately to the left of my two USB connections (it has a lightning bolt symbol), through an adaptor to an HDMI-HDMI cable to the TV.  I have tried the following:
Double checked all connections
Connected to a different TV
Replaced the HDMI cable
Another strange piece of data:  After experiencing this trouble, I tried to project again via an overhead projector.  It did not initially work, but after sitting for a period of 10-15 minutes, it suddenly worked.  I thought perhaps it was a loose connection, but once I shut down and restarted again several times, I could not get it to work again, even after wiggling the cables and holding the connections in slightly different positions.  One thing I have not yet tried is replacing the adaptor cable from the MAC output port to the HDMI cable.
I have also tried to "detect displays" on my MAC when connected to the TV, and the TV was not showing up as a display.
Any suggestions?  Could I have inadvertantly changed a switch setting somewhere on my MAC that is causing it not to recognize the TV or projector?  As an alternative, can I project to a TV or overhead projector from any of my other MAC output ports (e.g., USB)?  As info, I have two other types of connections, one which has a Y symbol and one which has a symbol as follows: <-->

  • Is it OK to use USB 2.0 connection for Glyph external drive and Mac Pro as project drive?

Is it OK to use a USB 2.0 connection for Glyph external drive and Mac Pro as project drive? I was told by Sweetwater tech support to use Firewire, but both the FW400 and FW800 connections crash my audio interface software mixer (Presonus' "Universal Control" software).
Both Firewire connections also create a 10 second hang for each Command-Save that I do.
USB 2.0 for the external drive seems to be working so far, but is there some reason I should be wary of using this as my go-to project drive? In other words, I am imagining that there was probably some definite reason that the tech support guy mentioned not to use it. But maybe not. It's a brand new Glyph. In any event, it's nice to have the 10 second hang eliminated, and I was just looking for some advice, since digging into the Presonus software issue could take some time.

If you have a mac pro, why not stick the external HDD inside via one of your many SATA cables & have it run 9 times faster than your USB?
Or stick a HDD CADDY in your mac pro, so you can slot in a full sized 3TB HDD for recording, and when you are done, pull it out & slip it in an external enclosure if you need to take it places?

  • Restored vault on a new Mac and the projects and albums show up but there are no photos.

I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro.  I currently have about 33,000 photos on an older MBP.  I created a vault (I thought) of my old Aperture library and saved it to my Time Machine.  I restored it to the new MBP, which took forever, but after the restore the projects and albums I created show up on the new MBP but there are no photos.  In the 'About My Mac' storage settings it says there is 162.68 GB of photos on my computer (which is the same size as the photos on my old MBP).  How do I find them?!

If you want to remove the movies & videos from your iPod Nano in order to transfer to your computer, connect your iPod Nano to your computer.  Double click your iPod Nano icon.  Double click the DCIM folder.  Your recorded video content will be in your DCIM folder.  Drag the video content onto your desktop & place them where you want.

  • Encore For Mac Crashing When Project Size actually becomes Larger then the Setup

I've been an Encore user for years on the PC and have recently started using CS4 on the Mac.  I have been having  some issues with Encore crashing, and I think I have narrowed it down to the following.
I encode all of my M2V files for Standard DVD outside of Encore using Episode.  Encore seems to work just fine for me usually until I get toward the end of the project, then it will crash.   The funny thing is, if it crashes once and I'm able to bring the project back up into Encore, I can build a disk image to my hard drive and then simply use Toast to make all of my copies to DVD.  I may not ever be able to bring that project back into Encore to re-edit, but the DVD that I burn from the disk image works just fine.
I believe Encore is crashing once I import assets as a timeline (I usually import my assets directly to a new timeline) which end up being close to or exceeding the disk size of the project settings, which is always standard DVD.   If I import the asset first before creating a timeline with it and actually add it to the project, it does't crash.  But, once I add the content to the project by making a timeline out of it and apparently if it exceeds the size of the standard DVD, Encore will then crash.  Does this make sense?  Why would it crash, it didn't work that way in Encore on the PC, if I had more content then would fit onto a DVD it simply told me that when I checked the build before building it.  This is crazy!
    Thanks!

    Hi Jeff, thanks.
Yes, I have done this.  I thought I explained that in my post.  Okay, well I guess I need to officially report this to Adobe, you would think they already knew it, unless it's an isolated case to my machine, which it could be, that's what I'm trying to find out if anyone can replicate the problem.  I Suppose Windows users aren't experiencing this problem, or maybe just don't realize the problem exist.
I might add, I first discovered this problem when went to encode motion buttons which is usually my last step before building the project.  If the encode turns the project into one that exceeded the expected project disk capacity,  it will usually crash the application, but sometimes I can go ahead and write  a disk image before exiting, but I can never open the project again after that.  If I didn't have a backup, all of the time spent on that project is wasted, and the project files becomes corrupt and will not open.
One last note of interest.  I did a test project where I identified the project as a double sided DVD thinking it would be a good workaround if id didn't crash once I imported more than 4.7 GB of data into active timelines. But that didn't work.  Now I can of course  import as many M2V compliant source clips as I want to and it doesn't crash Encore, but as I convert an asset one at a time into a timeline, *** soon as it exceeds the project disk size, Encore crashes.  Thankfully, I can still open the project, but the project from then on out seems to be very touch and go and Encore then want to crash by simply double clicking too fast or whatever!  Not sure is this later problem is actually related to my initial problem or not.
    Thanks for your feedback.

  • Get iMovie project completed on different Mac into iDVD project

I have a bunch of iMovie projects of my son's school year which I created and I want to burn to DVD to share with the other parents.I am sharing them to the media browsers as large files to use in iDVD, but one movie I want to include was created on the Mac at his school, and at the moment I only have a medium sized copy of it here as an .M4v file.
How is it best to progress so I can include that clip on the dvd too? Convert it? Or I could go into school to access the original file there and save it as something else? I guess it would be preferable to get it as a large file at least. I don't have the original clips it was created with here at home by the way.
    Thanks,
    Kate

'Start iMovie and set it to show Hard Disk View in Event's'
    How do I do this?
Event window has two faces - Can look like this
or like this (observe small blue symbol top right hand corner)
Also: 'Make the Moves over to the external HD (T-mode Mac) and if You start with a Project You'll also be asked to copy over the needed Event's'
I did a test this end, tried to drag and drop a project over to an external HD and nothing happened. How do I make the moves over?
Works for me - but only in iMovie'09 and 11 - In iM'08 Projects can not be moved - still not so important as the project is only a very small text document telling iMovie howto use the material in Event and Audio and Photos to play as the Movie You made.
BUT - I got frustrated as I tried to move Event to project or other way around - THAT doesn't work ! - only moves within resp. window from one hard disk to the other.

  • Garageband for Mac and iCloud project in cloud not syncing to iPad

I have checked every setting possible in GB for Mac and in iCloud settings,, plus also checked iPad for all settings. I can see that a particular project is appearing as an iCloud document, however, it does not appear to be syncing to my iPad. The document (project)was made in my Mac Garageband New Version  , opens up nicely on GB version 10,, and I have it in the cloud and not a document on my computer. Any help as to why it  might not be showing up on my iPad would be appreciated.... unless there are are problems in the Cloud tonight.?

GarageBand can only sync from iPad to OS X, not the other way around.
You can, however, sync back to an iPad if the project was originally created on an iPad.
Some edits  you did in OSX may not be seen on your iPad.
Opening an iPad-version in OS X is a bit awkward.
First, on your iPad tap and hold the file you want to send to iCloud.
As soon as the icon of your song starts to wiggle, tap Upload to iCloud.
In OS X go to File / iCloud / Import GarageBand for iOS
It can take some minutes before you can see your project.

  • MAC Leopard - Check Project - Button Overlay and Orphans

Where is the semantic web!!! I could't find in the morass here if anyone answered the following...
I try a CHECK PROJECT...if I check Button Overlay...the APPLE BEACHBALL OF DEATH appears and I am blown out of the program. I have 5 buttons and I swear to whomever they don't overlap! So that one is a mystery.
IF I check Orphans I get two items that appear (in my case 2 menu orphans)...if I double click on either I am blown out of the program. I see nothing in the project resources for these. I have but ONE menu. BTW, if I click on the FLOWCHART

    Bill,
Understand that I am on PC and also am on CS2, so things might have changed, and these answers may well be void, but...
For the Button Overlay, since you are getting booted out of the program, lets try to look at the problem from another direction. With the Menu (the one that Check Project has already flagged as a problem) in the Menu Panel, click on Button Routing icon at the bottom of that Panel. You should see the Buttons come up with two things: Bounding Boxes around each Button, and the little cross, with the Button Numbers, showing the Routing for the players remote buttons. Look at the Bounding Boxes around each Button. Is there any overlap? Often, when building, or re-building Menus, this can happen, and there isnt another fail-safe way to check (a Feature Request might be in order for Photoshop, or Encore). If there is ANY overlap, you need to re-edit that Menu in PS (ideally, as it offers more power, than does Encore) and look at the Highlight sub-Layer for that Button. Re-size it to make sure that the overlap does not happen. I know that you feel confident, that there is no overlap, but Button Routing will verify that. If there is none, then thats another problem for you to hash out with the MAC folk, and a possible glitch in either the program, or within your system.
As for the Orphans, look in your Project Panel and check (in your case) Menus. Are there any, that are not used? You state that you have one Menu in the Project. Do more appear in the Project Panel? If so, remove them. In the Flow Chart Panel, you should also see the Orphaned Assets, in what else, but the Orphanage, at the bottom of that Panel. If you do not, and will not, need them, then Delete (Trashcan) should take care of that error message.
Now, as to why the attempts to work out of Check Project Panel crashes the program... well, I have no clue. Maybe the MAC folk can look at your failure list and tell you exactly what is going on there. However, if you can solve the problems elsewhere, you can get on with your Project, until such time, as you can work that one out.
Good luck, and sorry that you got a non-MAC person to answer.

  • Mac mini panasonic projecter issue

I am connecting a mac mini to a Panasonic AE3000U full HD projector with a VGA cable via adapter (I have both Mini DisplayPort and mini dvi adapters). The image looks wonderful except that I cannot get the full horizontal width. Display is set to 1920 x 1080 but doesn't appear to have the proper ratio. Anyone have experience with this? Is this a limitation of VGA and I should be using HDMI?
    Many thanks!

Are you shure there's not a setting on the projector that controls that? That's where I'd be looking.

  • I have my hdmi cord from my macbook pro to my hdtv but only the mac background will project?

I can only get the Mac background to show on my tv after hooking up the HDMI cord from my Macbook Pro to my HDTV? Is there something else I need to do?

I dont see arrangements when I click on displays. I see displays in the hardware section but all it asks for resolutions. is that mean on my computer or on my TV?

  • 2 Macs, 1 iMovie Project

Is there a way to copy/migrate the clips n such from one Mac to another? Running the latest iMovie.
I've got a mbp and iMac both from 2010. I've spent most of my time compiling clips from my twins first year on the laptop but it doesn't quite have the graphical juice the desktop has to make sure the transitions are clean.
I know if I right click the event there's a menu that says "Consolidate Event Media" and I'm guessing whatever is consolidated could be sent via Airdrop to the iMac but I don't want to mess up what I've currently got.

Yes.  First consolidate media for the event.  This ensures that everything is actually in the library and there is no referenced material (links) which won't be found on the other mac.  You can then copy the library to another mac (by any means - though airdrop may be rather slow) also running the same latest iMovie and everything should work.
    Consolidating media:

    Moving items:

The best way of avoiding 'mess ups' is of course to have a backup before you start.

  • Pr CC / Mac - Cannot open project!!!

    '08 MacPro w/ OS X 10.7.5 - Pr CC v7.0.0 (was up to date but uninstalls/reinstalls)
I have been natively editing a multicam project for the last 2weeks:
    * 3Cams = 2 Panasonic AVCHD + 1 JVC GY-HM150U ProHD .mp4
I'm finished with the MultiCam and am now editing the last 2mins of my 2hour project when...  Pr CC CRASHED! It just dissapeared!!
When I try to reopen the CC project, I get: "The project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file of codec could be associated with this sequence type."
When I start a new CC project and try to import the JVC GY-HM150U ProHD .mp4 footage, I get: "Unsupported format or damaged file."
I have tried Uninstalling/Reinstalling Pr CC over & over but I am still unable to open the project or import the footage into a new project. I am also unable to update Pr CC via Application Manager: "Update Failed. Updates could not be applied. This patch is not applicable for you."
As we all know, the Pr CC project will not open directly in  Pr CS. No matter because now I'm being asked to enter my SN/Activate CS which is unable to connect to the internet. (I'm writing this via my connection to the internet)
** I've been at this for 2days now!!!
** Support has been frustrating at best.
    Anyone experienced this?
Any thoughts on how to get it all straightened out?
I may have to set aside time to redo my entire system as troubleshooting is too frustrating, confusing, and time consuming.
If I were to upload the Pr CC project file to my Dropbox... would some kind soul Download/Open it... and export an XML of the final sequence (07_ReCap), which I can then open in FCP?
(or at least tell if there is another problem besides the preview CoDec)

Hey man! I've been struggling with this issue for over a month and i finally solved the problem. Open the damaged project file with "TextWrangler" or any other notepad alike app and by pressing cmd + f find the 12 rows starting with
    "<MZ.Sequence."
and now open a not damaged project file with the text editor and find the same 12 rows. Copy and paste the ones from the working project file to the damaged one and save the file. If everything done right, then it should be working now Hope this helped
the rows should look something like this

  • Mac Mini side project - recycle / regenerate

    Hi Mac Mini Community,
I have recently purchased a possible dead 2010 Mac Mini. I am yet to receive it in the post, but wished to get this posting started as I wished to get a little inside knowledge before poking around in the hardware.  According to the ebay posting the mac mini boots up.  The hardware is listed as having a broken harddrive sata connector.  That would be the sata connector/socket on the actual motherboard.  The DVD connector is intact.  There is no DVD drive supplied or RAM.
As far as I know I will have to get some RAM in the machine to get started. thats hoping the seller was straight regarding its booting up condition.
    My questions are:
    1. To test its functionality could I boot OSX from off a usb drive ?
    2. If the above works could I use the DVD sata connector on the logic board for booting a copy of OSX from a harddrive ?
[I realise there is a special flex cable for this : 922-9560 aka Bottom Hard Drive Flex Cable for Mid 2010 Server ]
If I have not looked properly and found on the Apple Support Communities for a similar discussion please forgive me ! I am sure they are all over the show, but am yet to find one.
    Re
    StopThe Nonsense

Yes you can boot the Mac MIni from a USB drive.
If you have a copy of Snow Leopard install DVD you can create a USB install key using Disk Utility to copy the DVD to the usb drive.
Yes, you can place a hard drive in the location of the DVD drive. A drive caddy is available to hold the hard drive in place.
OWC has a caddy available for the Mac Mini for relocation of a HD in the optical bay.
ifixit.com has instructions on disassembly of the Mac Mini and can also supply parts.

  • Premiere Elements 12 Windows project to Mac

I started my project on Windows 7 with Premiere Elements 12. Now I want to work with the project on Mac with Premiere Elements 12 (the same version). Unfortunately I got the error "The project is not compatible with current version of Premiere Elements". I used Project Archiver which created a new folder with all files on an external disc. Mac opened it and Premiere started to load it but then threw the error.
Would it be possible to open a project done on Windows with Mac? I really need this because I've done quite a lot work with the project but my Windows license is over and converted to Mac.

    TitusK
The project file (project.prel) created in Premiere Elements Windows cannot be opened in Premiere Elements Mac. The reverse is also true.
One possibility might be to export your Premiere Elements Windows Timeline to the appropriate .mov or .mp4 and then import that file
into Premiere Elements Mac new project. But, from what you wrote about your present circumstances, this does not seem to be possible.
This is the situation with Premiere Elements (any version).
Be aware that there are several Windows Only features in Premiere Elements.
Please do not hesitate to ask if any questions or need further clarification on anything written here.
    Thank you.
