  • Mac unable to locate HP ENVY 5532 on network during configuration - device not reachable

I have MacBook Pro with OSX 10.9.5 and HP ENVY 5532. I have had it set up and configured for over a year but have always had a problem with scanning. Today after becoming frustrated that the scanning capabilities no longer worked, I found another thread which suggested re-installing the HP drivers and software here. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-and-Copying/Scanning-from-HP-ENVY-5532-to-Mac-with-Yosemite-operating/td-p/4819461 So I did a full install of the drivers but now the mac cannot even connect to the printer at all during the configuration process. I had been prompted to connect the USB to the printer if the device was not picked up during the configuration process, so I did that.  However the printer cannot be reached by the Mac.   But I can see that the printer has sucessfully connected to the network. I can see it on the network which I log into the router and I can access it via it's IP address.   The printer is connected to the correct network.  I have also noticed that the printer itself is showing as a separate wireless network. I have no idea how this happened as I had been trying to do so many things to fix the scanning capabilities in the first place I may have somehow inadvertently set up this network!! Could the printer itself as a network be causing these problems?   ANy help would be appreciated.

Hello,  I had already re-installed the drivers from the HP website as shown in the link, so I went to the steps as below.  Also the router I have has always worked with the printer before (not the scanning capability) but the printing has worked. So does this mean that it supports Bonjour as I have no manual?  These are the steps I followed: On the step  to Print a Network Configuration Page, the network settings need to be checked .  It asked to review the following Review the following sections on the test page.No Filtering: Pass or FailPass: There is no MAC filtering preventing communication between the printer and the router. No action is required.Fail: There is a MAC filter preventing communication. Refer to the router manual or contact the router manufacturer for steps on disabling MAC filtering.
My problem here is that I do not see any section on the test page for No Filtering but everything else appears ok.  In the next section Option one: My test page shows the correct SSID and a valid IP address when i get to step 5: Click the plus sign () at the bottom of the left pane. NOTE:Make sure that the printer kind is Bonjour or Bonjour Multifunction.  First of all there is no printer to choose from and secondly I see no option to ensure that the kind is Bonjour or Bonjour Multifunction     After clicking the + icon, you can see no printers are shown,  I think it is probably not much use to me to to do anything further right now until I see what feedback I can get from you.  IN the meantime, I will contact my internet service provider to make sure that the router they have supplied supports Bonjour.  I have tried to add the printer manually using the IP address and managed to print a page. It shows as following   However I am not able to scan. Have you any ideas what is going on? is this something to do with Bonjour? Best RegardsNuala

Does it say that on the box?
When you compare the MP495 to MG8820 on the Canon site, the MG series printer mentions Airprint but there MP series doesn't mention it. I see AirPrint mentions on the Wireless Help tab on other MG series Canon printers too.

  • Officejet pro 8500 a909n Unable to locate - The printer is not connected

Something, unknown to me, must have recently changed with my printer and or my iMac and MacBook Pro.  I was suddenly unable to print.  When I attempt to print I get this icon on the dock:
I then click on the icon and this is the window that is displayed:
I completed a #6 restart and restarted the computers.  I had no problem establishing a connection with the router, which is a Time Capsule.  On the OSX Printers and Scanners Page I initially had a green light, but after attempting to print the light changes to amber and states "in use Last Used".  If I turn off the wireless radio, I can connect using USB, but prefer to use wifi.  However, after I walk away from the computer for awhile and then come back to print I get the same message.
Is there something I can do to fix this.

  • Find My Mac Unable to Locate my iMac

I haved succesfully updated my iMac and wife's Macbook to 10.7.2 and my iPhone and iPad to  iOS5.
I am able to see all 4 devices in the device list when I run the "Find My iPhone" application on the iPhone, iPad, iMac or Macbook, however, for the iMac and Macbook the text below the device icon says "No location available".  If I turn off "Find My Mac" in System Preferences/iCloud then the device icon disappears from the screens of the other devices I'm using to locate it so the application is obvioulsy detecting the iMac and Macbook on the network but cannot locate them. All the devices are connecting to my home wi-fi network and have location services enabled.  I thought it might be that the iPhone has a sim card installed but the iPad and is connected to the WiFi just the same as the iMac and Macbook  so I am baffled as to why this application sees them but cannot determine location
Anyone got any ideas why this might be?

I don't think it will ever work under ethernet, using current methods.
Unless I miss my guess, determining the location relies heavily on a vast database of wireless networks, compiled from numerous sources. The location is calculated by knowing what wireless network you are connected to, what other networks the computer can also "see", and what their relative signal strengths are. So, a computer that is only connected by ethernet will show up as "connected" but the app won't be able to calculate the location.
Both my home machines are connected by ethernet and wireless, although I have ethernet as the first service, contrary to advice above. Both show as connected and have a location.
If a computer is connected by wireless and still can't be located, then perhaps that is because the wireless network is "closed" (just a guess), or simply not yet part of the map.

  • Unable to locate a printer driver for a Samsung ML-2165 mono laser on OSX5.8 despite installing software successfully. Any ideas?

I've installed successfully from disc (and removed it manually and reinstalled and restarted and unplugged etc). The iBook G4 sees the printer but the dialogue tells me there is no appropriate printer driver and to select one.  The only Samsung ones that appear are Guttenberg ones for different models. The Samsung folder appears in the Library/Printers folder. I have also downloaded Mac drivers from Samsung's website they unzip to folders 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6. The 10.5 one includes
    file://localhost/10.5/autosetupinfo.plist
    file://localhost/10.5/Command%20File%20Filter/
    file://localhost/10.5/Filter-%20SPL/
    file://localhost/10.5/ML-2160.icns
    file://localhost/10.5/PDE/
    file://localhost/10.5/PPD/
    file://localhost/10.5/SCMS/
    file://localhost/10.5/statusDesc.plist
    file://localhost/10.5/Utilities/
I've put the folders in the printers folder - no change, I don't think anything has installed itself. There is certainly no installer automatically opening. What to do next?
Samsung have sent me a standard Microsoft reply..... Hope someone can advise.

Thank you very much for your clear advice which ought to work.
Unfortunately none of this seems to work and is what I have already tried. This is a new printer - I have installed the software from the CD to no avail - I can select the printer but am told I have to download software..
I have manually deleted software.  Then, I have downloaded the Mac software from the UK and the italian websites. The printer is found in the menu but again it says there is no suitable software. When browing under the 'other' heading the contents of the downloaded folder are greyed out and can't be installed. It appears the Samsung printer driver is not making itself available to the Print and Fax selector.
It does make me wonder whether I have accidentally removed a vital piece of software - having removed most of the printer drivers a while ago to save disc space.

  • Yosemite Mac Can't Locate Printer

I just got a new Macbook Pro last month. I am using a HP ENVY 4500 printer and occasionally, when I try to send a print job to the printer, it gets stuck in the "Connecting" stage, then when I wait long enough, I get the "cannot locate printer" message. I then restart my Macbook Pro and everything is fine again. When I only got this error once, I thought it might have been some minor glitch but this has happened twice now. Any ideas what could be causing this? Could this be a fundamental hardware issue or am I being overly paranoid?

Thank you so much for the assistance! I will definitely try the steps you mentioned when I encounter the issue again. Just as another update, I have tried turning my printer off and back on again to no success... It seems like restarting the Mac was the only solution so far. Also, just to be very specific with the issue, I will describe the events: (1) I sent a print job to the printer and it just says, "looking for printer" for a while. (2) I then get a message saying that the mac is unable to locate the printer. (3) I unplug the USB and re-plug it again and try again (when I do this, it seems like the printer is detected, but when I try to print, it loads for a while then again says that the printer is unable to be located). (4) I turn the printer off and back on and the same issue from (3) happens. (5) Finally, I restart the computer and send the print job and everything is fine again.  I just want to make sure that there's nothing wrong with my Mac and that this sounds more like a software/incompatibility issue! How likely do you think that this is an issue with the hardware?

  • Photosmart 5510 MacBook Pro with OS 10.9 doesn't see the printer on network

Keeps giving error message that the printer is offline....in the setup process it says set up successful but unable to locate to printer on the network....i didn't change anything, unless there was an automatic update done somewhere/sometime recently....it was working fine.  The self test on the printer for wireless passed everything!  iMac and iPad see it & print to it!!
    please help me!!
oh, yes, it shows up in the printer device list twice:  once as HP 5510 series when connected by USB and once as 77A267 with everything unknown but state IP connection....this is the one that says offline and unable to locate on the network.
I have tried all the steps listed in the forum proposals to no avail.

    Hi msdok,
I understand the printer is appearing offline although you can print from the iPad and iMac. I see from your message that you have already done some troubleshooting, but I am not sure what you have tried. I recommend using the steps below if you have not already.
    Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
    Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    Double-clickDisk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
When you add the printer, please ensure you are using the HP driver, not the AirPrint driver.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can the printer driver
If this does not resolve the issue, please take a look at the following document, 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Will Not Print.
    I hope this helps.

  • Unable to printer through network

Hi, I am currently unable to print through the wireless network.  I set up the printer yesterday, and it printed ok. The printer is a HP Office Jet Pro Preium . When I try to print I get the message "Unable to communicate with printer.  Printer unavailable or not connected".  The printer says that it is properly connected to the network.  Any ideas?

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are having trouble installing your HP Photosmart c4580 printer on Mac OS X 10.5.8. And, I am happy to help! I would recommend to try uninstalling the software again, (in case their is still some software partially installed.) Uninstall the Printer Software. And, then try resetting the print system, and verifying and then reinstall the software using this direct link.  Hope this helps!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

  • Unable to verify the printer on the network

    Hi,
I have a home IP network with an HP4100N network laser-printer connected via JetDirect card to a powerline device and then to a hub.
Up until recently, all computers on my network could successfully print to the printer via the JetDirect card and IP (192.168.0.100).
HOWEVER, my girlfriends MacBook Pro running Mac OX 10.9.5 suddenly stopped printing to the printer and things were just starting to build up in the print queue. The printer continues to print normally for everyone else on Mac and even a Windows 7 machine, eeek!
Turning the printer on and off a couple of times, resetting the network etc, I then finally deleted the print queue and tried to setup a new connection to the printer again on her computer via the prefs and the IP JetDirect socket option (like I have done on all the other computers).
When I enter the printer IP address into the Mac Printer & Scanners settings, Mac OS tried to interrogate printer model etc and it comes back with a Generic Postscript Printer profile and not the HP specific one. (Again, every other computer can setup fine at this point!)
On her computer, when you try and install the printer with the wrong profile (or even the correct one if manually chosen), it eventually says:
'Unable to verify the printer on your network'.
    Network utility:
I then tried using the Network Utility to ping the printer from my laptop, this works.
I tried to ping the printer from her computer, this doesn't work and it times out!
    then...
I tried pinging her MBP from my MBP and this works. Then I pinged my MBP from her MBP, this works.
So her computer is on the network, but is not able to see the printer.
I then hard- IP'd a new IP address on the printer (just to rule this out), setup all the computers to this new printer, all worked well except for her computer, which once again couldn't see the printer. (I can't ping to it either again from her computer, even with the new IP!)
I think I've tried all the obvious things, updating software, resetting things, turning the firewall off completely....but all to no avail.
The problem, it seems to me, is with her MBP rather than with the network or the printer (as all other computers can print!).
So...the million dollar question is... Can anyone tell me what is going on?! How do I get her computer to print to this printer again??
    thanks very much.

Yeah, I would agree with you completely Greg, but the baffling thing is it just affects this one Mac. How come it routes 'selectively' so to speak? It works for everyone (incl. Windows 7 machine) but not for my GF's MBP... until such a time that it suddenly feels like working again (all by itself by the looks of things).
You are right in saying that it defo appears to be some kind of routing problem, but I'm having difficulty in finding out where the problem actually is. Is it the router, the printer or her computer? Could it be the firewall on the router blocking it for her and not for others for some reason? If it was the router, you would expect it to tarnish everyone with the same brush, would you not?
Whilst the HP printer has the static IP manually set up on that side (192.168.0.100), the router hasn't specifically been told that the printer has the .0.100 address hard coded into it I don't think, so there is a possibility for it to be going weird here. I'll need to look at the router config page tonight and just lock that 0.100 address to the MAC HW of the printer. Perhaps that will do the trick, but still wouldn't explain why it's doing it selectively just to that one computer (not even randomly to others on the network).
I did try the safe boot too. Within that I ran Disk Utility to fix some file permission errors (there were some group permission problems for the new HP software that I had installed on her computer actually, which DU had fixed). Whilst running the utility, it did throw back issues about the EFI partition map being corrupted etc, but that seems to be a separate problem with the disk utility software not being able to run/fix from the disk it is being booted from, even in safe mode. But this is being discussed elsewhere on Apple Forums and I don't think it's connected to the IP problem I'm having.
Whilst I was doing the Safe Boot thing, I got sidetracked (isn't that always the case when you troubleshoot) and didn't try and set the printer up within that environment, but instead was trying to figure out why I was getting the EFI partition Map errors. It turned into a late night and I had to hit the sack at some point...
I tried IPP too. Putting the Printers IP into the address field on her computer didn't result in the HP Printer profile being selected when it tried to find the printer, this stayed as Generic PostScript. I didn't explore any further on that occasion to see if I could manually set it all up and print to it or if the set-up would just hang again. I figured if the IP address of the printer isn't visible to the computer (ie. no route to host), then changing to IPP wouldn't work either.
I'll give these options another go tonight when I get my hands on her computer again.

  • HT1338 unable to connect Canon Printer imageCLASS MF5950dw to my Mac

unable to connect Canon Printer imageCLASS MF5950dw to my Mac

Instead of using Bonjour to connect to the network printer I suggest you use the LPD protocol. To do so, open Print & Scan and click the plus button to add. With the Default Add printer view showing, click the IP icon in the toolbar. You can then enter the IP address of the MF5980dw, ensure LPD is selected for the protocol and leave the queue name blank. You can also change the name from the IP address to something more meaningful, like Canon Printer, leave the Location blank and in the Use menu, change to "Select printer software" and then browse for the MF5900 Series. When found and selected, click OK and then Add to complete the printer queue creation. Now see if this will print to the Canon.

  • CUPS unable to locate printer

Up until this morning our two iMacs (one on 10.5, the other on 10.6) were able to print OK to our Magicolor 2300DL.  Not any more. The printer keeps automatically going into pause on both iMacs.  Looking in the console log shows 'CUPS unable to locate printer'. Both iMacs and 2300DL have been power-cycled. The printer can be browsed to quite happily which to my mind suggests that it is there on the network.  I have removed the printer and re-added it. I have reset the printer system. Then re-added the 2300DL.  The printer will happily print a test page from its own panel.
Digging around a little suggested that perhaps Bonjour was not locating the printer. So I ran Bonjour Browser and did not see any print services displayed.  Thought I was onto a solution (although why both iMacs should fail seemed strange).
To double-check I fired up my G4 (running 10.5) and that prints quite happily to the 2300DL.  So I ran Bonjour Browser and to my surprise got exactly the same listing as I got on my iMac.
So now I am really confused and not sure where to go next. I even power-cycled the router!

In the absence of any suggestions, I have found a workaround and which I post here for the benefit of others. I was able to add the 2300DL ...using the HP JetDirect option.  Seems to work OK

  • Unable To Communicate With Printer HP Officejet Pro 8600 (Network)

I recently purchased an HP Officejet Pro 8600. One morning a couple weeks ago I tried to print something and I received a prompt saying "Unable to Communicate with Printer (Network)". I turned off the printer and turned it back on which did not help, I then turned off my wireless network, turned it back on and still nothing. I finally figured out that I first have to turn off the printer, then turn off my wireless router wait thirty seconds, turn the router back on and the turn the printer back on. After these steps my printer was working. The next morning the same thing happened "Unable to Communicate with Printer (Network)" and I've been replaying Groundhog's Day ever since.
    Please help!

    Hello msheehy-
I would like to help you with this issue. It sounds like the router is changing the ip address of the printer. This could be caused by a couple reasons. (ip lease time, power loss to the router) I would recommend looking at the following link. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03781399&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4323648&tmp...
I think if you would set a static ip address in the printer EWS you would better off. I hope this helps.
