Mac Updates timed out

When I attempt to download updates from the App Store, it fails and I get the following message "An error has occurred. The request timed out (-1001)". It has failed many times. I have a fairly high speed connection 12Mbp. How can I update my software? Thanks

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select
/var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Software updates, timing out, help ?

i just bought my macbook yesterday, and figured i would update my software, after trying, all failed except for iphoto and iDVD, i tried doing them seperatly, but they all timed out, saying there was no network connection. I tried updating certain software from the apple site, as opposed to the update menu, and the same occured. Does anyone have a suggestion to this problem ?
p.s this is my first mac, so most of this is new to me

would this slowness be due to my internet service as
a whole, or to my wireless router?
It could be either/both. Go here and test your speed. Are you getting a steady download?

  • Update timing out

I am trying to update my 3G wwith the 3.1.3 update and now the second ocmputer I have tried has 'timed out' before it has downloaded. Can someone help? thx!

The single biggest cause of this is security software on your computer. So, disable any firewalls, anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-anything and try again.

  • IPod update timing out?!

For the last week since the iOS 4.2 update came out, I've tried downloading it with no success; the file does not process or verify, the network connection times out (Error code is -3259) when the file is totally completed, according to iTunes (missing a tenth of a megabyte, but there's no more time remaining indicator). Pausing and resuming causes the file to restart, and that's 600 more megabytes to my bandwidth quota for the month, for nothing.
I really don't mean to sound... well, snarky, but this is getting pretty frustrating to me. I know many of the features carried by the 4.2 update won't apply to me, as I'm on a Windows machine, but iTunes DOES remind me there's an update available every time I plug the iPod in, so I try again, almost every time. I must have wasted about 2-3 gigabytes already.
    Well,

Turn off your Anti-Virus, Spy Ware, Ad Ware, whatever... Turn it all off...
If you have a Firewall turned on, turn it off...
    Then update your iPod Touch

  • Select for update timing out

    Hi there
when I do a simple select statement like
    select * from table
I recieve all the records without a problem
when I add 'for update' like
select * from table for update
this seems to take a long time (I don't actually get a result)
Is there something I'm doing wrong or have I incorrectly set up my oracle server?

As you are saying that your normal query is running fine but if you are using query with for update of it takes more time than previous.
But it is normal behaviour of the oracle itself, when you use for update of, oracle put lock on selected row and then dont allow other users to access it unless and untill first user finish the desired task on selected row. It creates delay in response of your for update query.

  • Disapearing email when clicking send if webmail has timed out

    Help
I was typing an email in webmail as I am using my pc at work. The mac webmail timed out without a warning message. When I clicked send, the email I was trying to send evaporated and I get the error message that the webmail has timed out.
The email I was typing is not in my drafts and is not showing as having been sent after I relogged into webmail.
The explorer page that I was typing the email into now has no back buttons or normal header with options to click on.
    Where has my email gone?
Is there a way to recover it from temporary files on this pc? I have no idea where to look.
I have lost a major amount of writing and editing.

If you have updated Thunderbird lately check your system firewall and see if Thunderbird is being blocked. Major version updates, like v24 to v31, have a tendency to get blocked.
If that is not the case check your server settings and see if they match what your provider is looking for. They might have changed something and you need to match those changes.

  • Network connection timed out during iPhone4 update to ios 7.1.2 in iTunes on mac mini

I've tried several times to update my iPhone 4 to the iOS 7.1.2 update using iTunes on my Mac mini.  Each time, after about an hour or two, I get the message that the network connection has timed out.  I don't have any security software installed, so that can't be the issue.  I have the most recent version of iTunes, so that can't be it either.  I can't update directly on my phone, because I don't have enough space left.  Any suggestions as to why the network is timing out??
Thanks for anyone's help in advance.

simple hold the power button and the home button for 15 seconds and release the home to the iphone to turn on.
them try to connect to the computer in the itunes and when ask to update you choose to only download not update , when finish update the iphone .

  • Mac OS 10.4.8 Update times out everytime

I have been trying to update my new MacBook 1.83 GHz core duo every update worked perfectly except one the Mac OS 10.4.8 combined update (intel). It is 300mb and everytime it gets to around 285mb the internet connection seems to drop. I get an error " A networking error has occurred: Timed out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the internet, and try again." When I check the network connection DSL it is working fine however I have to disconnect then reconnect to actually get on line. Please help.

I've had the problem myself, and it really stinks with 200+MB on Dialup!
What kind of connection/Router/Modem are you using?
Until then a couple of ideas, perhaps...
At one time this was a cause... "when connecting to a TLS-authenticated wireless network an "error -1001" issue could occur when more than one client certificate is stored in a keychain."
Any RSS, dot mac, iTunes Store, etc. running at the same time?
    In Terminal you might try...
    sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0

  • "The network connection timed out" Update/Restore using iTunes

Can anyone help with this problem. Ever since IOS 7.0 was released, iTunes is so broken when it comes to updating the software or restoring iPhones. Everytime I try to restore or update I get the error "There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. The network connection timed out." after waiting for the 20min download. For one thing there is nothing wrong with my network connection it's fine, I cannot access the itunes store the whole nine yards, it's just when I need to update or restore the phone. It takes 20 mins to download then it gives me this stupid error. I have tried everything I've seen on the forum that others have tried with disabling virus scanners and other 3rd party software and nothing! The funny thing is, it happens on every computer in the house, even my Mac notebook, so it seems like it's tracking the Baja network connection, but I don't have any problems with anything else we are using, it's just with iTunes. We were using OpenDNS, so I removed that from the router and I still have the some problem. Does anyone know a way around this problem. I am so ready to bail on apple products. Frustrating....
I would appreicate any help in resolving this problem....
    Tnx

Did you make sure it was the exact file for your device and the latest version? I just downloaded the latest file for my iPhone4, put it in the folder I mentioned above and it ran the install versus downloading the file. This problem where it times out after downloading is a big Bug within iTunes that has been there ever since IOS 7.0 was released. I wished these apple developers would just fix iTunes. There are a ton of complaints about this issue. I sure miss Steve Jobs running this business, I really feel like it's gone down hill after he left.
    I hope this helps!
    Regards.

Try deleing the download and try again. It is located:
IPSW file location for Mac and Windows
If yo restore, the iPod will also be update. You can try that. Just make sure that you backup first so yo can restore from backup

Does anyone know how to solve this tiresome problem, please!?? The update is downloaded upto 723.5MB, and is required upto 723,6MB, then the error message pops out! Tnx.

I have a quick wifi connection (Mac shows it as about 35 megabits) but I couldn't get the 5.0.1 OTA to work, I had to do it via cable to my computer's iTunes - and as I was already on iOS 5 it was only a small download, basically the same size as the OTA size.
As the original poster is talking about a 730 meg download then I assume that they are still on iOS 4.3.5 or below and can therefore only download via their computer's iTunes - you need to be on iOS 5+ before you get the OTA option.

  • Software update request timed out

When my laptop tries to look for software updates within the Mac App Store app, it always says "Request Timed Out". I know the problem, but I don't know the solution.
Back when I was running Snow Leopard, I had a Mac mini server that was using Apple's software update server. It was also managing computers on my home network, and it changed the software update server location on all my family's Macs to my home server. One day, the Mac mini server died, and I never replaced it. All my other Macs were able to revert to Apple's SUS, but my Macbook Pro never did.
Under Snow Leopard, I would run these commands:
sudo defaults delete /Library/Managed\ Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL
sudo defaults delete /Library/Managed\ Preferences/Brian/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL
And under Lion, I had to add these commands:
    sudo rm -R -v /Library/Preferences/DirectoryService
    sudo rm -R -v /Library/Preferences/edu.mit.kerberos
    sudo rm -R -v /Library/Managed\ Preferences
    sudo rm -R -v /Library/Caches/*
After running these, I could do a software update. But, after a day, the setting would always revert to looking for my home server. I was never able to figure out how to permanently change this setting.
Under Mountain Lion, this no longer works. I cannot contact Apple's SUS. Does anyone know how to permanently set the SUS location to Apple, or even temporarily?
    Thanks,
    Brian

    Hi Brian,
You should have a old profile with that settings; every time you logout and logon, the profile reads and install the settings. Check on your System Preferences under System and you should see an icon named "Profiles", just delete it. Don't forget to once more, re-direct to Apple SUS.
I hope this can help you!

  • Mac App Store: Your session has timed out. Try again.

Whenever i try to do anything in the Mac AppStore, i get the message Your session has timed out. Try again.
I tried with and without two step verification. It all runs on a MacBook Pro and Yosemite - no updates available in the store to install. Updates, although with a workaround do install, weirdly enough.
I am sorry if this question was asked before. Also the search here does not work today for me. Start feeling like i am using windows ME again…
    This is getting really frustrating.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
