Mac updates won't install on Lion?

Hi
Since installing OS X Lion whenever I go into 'Software Update' it tell me I have updates but when I click for it to update it just does nothing, I have left it for over half hour on one try, 'Software Update' stays open but nothing appears saying it is downloading or installing like it did when I was using 'Snow Leopard.
I just end up closing 'Software Update' and giving up.
Anyone experienced this or know how I might fix it?

First run software update to check for any system updates. If there are none available, I'd suggest downloading and reapplying the 10.6.8 Combo Update from Apple's website. Here's the link. That's the only way you can in effect "reinstall" the App Store since it's tied so closely into the system. After doing the reinstall, run Software Update again until there are no more updates and then try to reproduce the problem.

Hello,
I have a remote user whose Windows updates won't install. He has a Dell laptop with Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. You can bring up the update windows and start the install but, at exactly 10 seconds, it just says "Updates failed" and doesn't really give
any more information.
I saw the Windows update service was stopped, I started it and that didn't seem to help. I also tried the update troubleshooter and that didn't do anything. I checked for malware and didn't find any, and he has plenty of disk space. I didn't see
anything in Even Viewer or Reliability Monitor either.
What could it be?

Hi Chris,
Firstly, please check if those Windows Update have already installed:
1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type
Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.
2.In the left pane, click View update history.
3. Click Installed Updates at the top of the page, there check if any Windows Update installed recently.
If there is no any Windows Update installed, try to
reset the Windows Update component to check if it could resolve the issue.

Windows Updates won’t install. I’m receiving Error 0x80072EFD. What can I do to solve this?

This particular error means that your computer was not able to connect to the Internet when it tried to install updates. First, check your Internet connection and then try again. If that doesn’t work, try the methods below.
Method A: Make sure that Windows Firewall is turned on, and temporarily disable third-party firewalls
Warning This workaround may make a computer or a network more vulnerable to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. We do not recommend this workaround but are providing this information so that you can implement this workaround at your own discretion. Use this workaround at your own risk.
To complete this method, follow these steps.
Step 1: Make sure that Windows Firewall is turned on
To open Windows Firewall, click the Start button, and then click Control Panel. In the search box, type firewall, and then click Windows Firewall.
Click Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
Click On (recommended), and then click OK.
Step 2: Temporarily disable third-party firewalls
Click the Start button, click Control Panel, and then, under System and Security, click Review your computer's status.
Click the arrow button next to Security to expand the section.
Under Firewall, read the firewall status note. This information will indicate which, if any, firewall is installed and whether the firewall is turned on. For example, for ZoneAlarm, the notice will say ZoneAlarm Firewall is currently ON.
Open the third-party firewall application that is listed in the firewall status note, and temporarily disable the firewall. If necessary, refer to the firewall application documentation, or contact the application vendor for more information about how to temporarily disable the application.
Step 3: Try to install the updates again
If this method resolved your issue, follow the steps in Method B, step 2 to re-enable your third-party firewall. You might want to also check for and install any necessary updates to your third-party firewall.
If this method did not resolve your issue, continue with Method B.
Method B: Temporarily disable third-party antivirus software

Disable any software accelerator programs that may be running. Some examples of these programs are file download accelerators and Internet speed accelerators.
Note If your third-party firewall is still disabled from Method B, do not open e-mail messages, surf the Web, or use instant messenger at this point.
Step 1: Disable software accelerator programs
To do this, select from the following options:

View the Help files for your program.
Contact the program vendor. For information about how to contact the program vendor, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Step 2: Install Updates
As soon as the software accelerator program is disabled, visit the Windows Update or Microsoft Update site again, and try to download and install updates.

Method D: Add the Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site to the Trusted Sites list
Note If your third-party firewall is still disabled from Method A, do not open e-mail messages, surf the Web, or use instant messenger at this point.
To add the Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site to the Trusted Sites list, follow these steps:
Start Windows Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Note If you are using Internet Explorer 7, and the menu is not available, press the ALT key on your keyboard to access the Internet Explorer Menu.
Click the Security tab, and then click Trusted Sites.
Click Sites, and then click to clear the Require server verification (https for all sites in this zone check box.
In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type the following addresses, and then click Add after you type each address:
http://update.microsoft.com
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
Click OK two times.
Try to install the updates again.
If this method resolved your issue and you were able to install updates successfully, you should re-enable your third-party firewall if it is still disabled. To do this, see step 2 in Method A.

Mark, I've just been through this update issue with two installations. In my case, it seemed intertwined with authentification and indexing not working, either. Upon a transfer of my system disk to new hardware I got hit with the issue and couldn't fix it. Which is why I did a clean install of Win7 ultimate 64bit on my T61p. The install (including update) worked great until I ran the intel matrix storage manager update. This broke windows update. If you surf the web, and include "intel rapid storage manager" or "intel matrix storage manager" and "Windows update fails", you'll see that a lot of folks feel that the intel driver (or how windows handles it) is what breaks update. I tracked this down to a driver, iastor.sys, in windows\system32\drivers. I was able to fix my Window Update by copying an iastor.sys from another recently built machine (should be exactly the same, but this was my wife's T510, but still Win 7 Pro 64) to overwrite the iastor.sys that the intel update changed. To be clear: I couldn't get windows update or indexing to work. I overwrote* the "bad" iastor.sys with one that worked on another computer. Rebooted. Update worked. I just wanted to point out that instead of blindly installing updates to fix problems, folks should be aware that sometimes the update is the problem. Especially as these systems are off warranty and the drivers are not being updated. I've asked elsewhere, so let me ask here: Where is the System Interface Driver for t61p? Not listed anywhere on site, links on the web referring to it are all broken. Is the System Interface Driver now part of another driver program? Thanks! Ok will check, as of right now I have 82.57gb free, that's plenty of space will check the disk though using disk utility. Also I am now downloading the update from the apple website instead of going through software update

You'll have to update your billing info from itunes, here's a guide on how to do it on iOS http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1918?viewlocale=nl_nl . It may be that there weren't suffecent funds at the time of the last purchase, in which case you'll just have to varify the three digit security code. Hope it helps!

Illustrator update won't install, even after uninstalling (using the "Uninstall Adobe Illustrator CS6" app and retrying (using Adobe Application Manager}multiple times. Now I can't open AI CS6 at all.
The error message I get in Application Manager is:
"Application could not be found. Restore in case it was trashed/moved to a different volume. Reinstall the application otherwise (U44M1P2B)"

Can you please try installing the Adobe Application Manager from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4774.
If that doesn't work then the safest course would be to remove all Adobe Creative Software using the uninstallers located in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers. This should then remove the Adobe Application Manager folder also inside Utilities. Once the software is completely uninstalled and the Adobe Application Manager is removed then you should be able to reinstall from https://creative.adobe.com/.

Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.

Jam Pack 4 update won't install

I've resinstalled *Jam Pack 4* 1.0 and went to Apple's site and downloaded the 1.0.1 update to correct some sound quality issues. However, the update won't install. I keep getting the message, "There is nothing to install," when I get to that step in the installation process. I see in an archived area others have had this problem as well with this Jam Pack 4 update. Why won't the update install?
Any help out there for this?

IPhoto 9.1 update won't install

I just bought a new MacBook Pro. It came with iPhoto 11. The iPhoto 9.1 update won't install. It keeps saying that I need iPhoto 9.0 or greater, but I have iPhoto 11. I have not moved iPhoto from its default location. My computer is only 2 days old. I've seen others with this problem, but no real solution. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for your response TD, but this App, iPhoto 11 came already installed on my computer. I registered my computer, but you can't register a product without a serial number. I don't have the iPhoto 11 serial number because it came installed on my computer already. I tried re-installing iPhoto 9.1 after registering my computer and got the same error message. However, I did find out that I hae 90 days of complimentary phone support. So I will be giving Apple a call.

Mac Pro won't install updates.

Hi all, I've been having this problem ever since updating from 10.5.8 to 10.6+. Software update restarts to install, gets to the end of installing and then tells me their was an error and the software wasn't installed and prompts me to restart.
I've tried to install from downloaded combos but they just tell me there's an error while installing. It happens when it trys to move the files in to place.
I have done a clean install from my 10.6 DVD but when updating from software update or downloaded combos, it still gives menthe error.
When updating individual software like safari, I have the same issue which is resolved by deleting safari from the app folder before updating and the install works fine.
The one thing that is possibly a bonus is when I restart after doing a software update, all the software seems to have been installed. Only bad thing is. Have no way of knowing if this has been installed properly
If anone has any clue how I can get software update to install properly it would be appreciated. Ideally without having to reinstall my entire system.

Hi Linc, Ok tried deleting the Update's folder.
Repaired permissions and the disk verification was successful.
The 10.6.7 install combo install still fails.
I have retried repairing the permissions from my 10.6.3 installation DVD. This repaired everything apart from it gave some warnings for a hand full of files that were modified and not repaired they are as follows:-

Made an Install DVD and booted with it. Got through the language choice and then chose reinstall OS X. The screen that came up had the same message as in the first post.
According to everything I can find, this Macbook Pro IS compatible with Mountain Lion but it won't install.

My airport express seems to no longer be supported by Apple. Was working fine, just blinking amber. So tried to update and reset, but update will not install with Lion? Im disgusted.

Airport express was blinking yellow. Tried to update, but my computer said update is not supported (yellow exclamation points). I have a mac pro with Lion and latest updates. So I reset express, yes that was a mistake because it was at least functioning on my stereo, now it does not function at all and shows on my wifi as "airport express", used to be labled "stereo". So it asks for an update, I download the update, but computer will not allow update to be installed. I will buy a newer one if I have to because I enjoy it's function, but I will be extremely disgusted with Apple to have to do so.

If you are using Lion...as you indicate...is it possible that you mistakenly downloaded the incorrect version of AirPort Utility?

Power Mac G5 won't boot with Lion?

After installing Lion, my early Intel 2010 Power Mac G5 won't boot. There were no problems for the first 2 days. The third day my G5 wouldn't boot at all. Not using Lion's recovery function, many attempts to boot from a previous system disk, and firewire target mode. The keyboard seems to be dead after attempting to boot except for the DVD eject key. All I get is a grey screen with an icon of a folder with a question mark within the folder. This icon blinks on and off continuously. Since the keyboard isn't working, I can't reset the PRAM, start in safe mode, or any other keyboard commands. The failed boot doesn't even get far enough for the Apple window to open. I replaced the hard drive and accomplished nothing except for spending even more money and time.
This is VERY frustrating! Has anyone else had a similar problem with booting after Lion't installation??

1) you have a Mac pro Early 2009, remember this. It avoids confusion here in forum
2) you're HDD's OS cannot be found by the firmware of the Mac hence it results to a question mark
perform the following(recommended to use a USB keyboard)
a) startup manager
press and hold option on startup. Do u see your HDD?
b) if you have a back up of your data then you can boot to the install disk and perform an erase and install
repairing the permission will not work since the disc's OS is different from the HDD's OS.
