Mac Users + OVI Maps Build ClientIndex

For Mac users unable to use Nokia Maploader for Mac here is how to merge index links provided by ovikovi
IndexAsia
IndexAustralia/Oceania
Index Africa
Index NorthCentralAmerica
Index South America
Index Europe
Unzip folders and drag respective folders to Documents as here
Documents
It is probably helpful to open this screenshot now
Merge ClientIndex
Create a New Folder in Documents ClientIndex
Open Terminal on Mac > Finder > Go > Utilities > Terminal
Type after $ prompt cd Documents <hit return>
Type after $ prompt cp -r Africa/* ClientIndex <hit return>
Repeat with index for other countries as in terminal screenshot
When finished drag ClientIndex folder to E:\CITIES\diskcache
This procedure also works for merging individual maps and is documented elsewhere on forum.

  • Ovi Maps 3.06 & 5800 XM. Update function worked in...

    After spending hours and hours of my valuable time trying to get the update function to work in the final release of 3.06,I give up and have had to turn to this forum for help. I've encountered so many problems with moving from the beta to final release that I don't know where to start. Seems you cannot update form the 3.06 beta,you must first remove a significant number of installed files with the application manager before Ovi Suite will stop giving you a error response when trying to update to the final version from beta. This I only learnt on a forum.
    The issue of why the update function no longer works as it did in the beta version has me stumped. I've tried reinstalling the phone software,set it back to it's factory settings,etc,etc,etc,. I really liked the beta update function,it worked well by indicationg the maps I had installed and could check to see if my maps were out of date. I had even used it to download a few smaller maps.
    I read somewhere to try deleting some of the MapLoader files that are stored on the micro-SD card. It's possible I did not delete the correct one's as that did not help.

    @9252fly
    Welcome to the forum!
    You have my commiserations as have "Update"  working on 5800XM but not N8, although not unexpected in view of difficulty returning N8 to "out of box" state, which not an issue however with 5800XM. Ironically on N8 the application Mobile Map Loader from OVI Store http://store.ovi.com/content/77461 does work on with latest OVI Maps version, which in my situation may have introduced conflicts with "Update".
    I might add that as primarily a Mac user OVI Suite is not a readily available option so would get application via:http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download#/nokia-5800-...
    If backing up to memory card I have yet to try just restoring Contacts & Messaging on newly formatted device to see if by not restoring "Settings" this resolves the issue or not.
    As you mentioned it can sometimes be necessary to Go to Menu > Settings > Application mgr. > Installed apps and uninstall any of these present: Open C LIBSSL,Open C LIBSSL Patch, OVI Maps Wi-Fi/Network Positioning, PIPS Installer, Share Location Agent, Share Location, Share Location Widget, Standard C++ Library Common, Standard C++ Library Patch, Symbian OS Pipes Upgrade, Symbian OS PIPS Upgrade & Upgrade for OpenC LIBZ Support
    AFAIK the only files mentioned for removal from memory card are E:\Cities + .qf file to remove all existing map data in case of corruption when changing from one map set to another upon updating.

  • Apple Mac - How to update OVI Maps on device if No...

    For Mac OSX users here is how to create a World Map from respective 351.zip, 352.zip, 353.zip, 354.zip and 355.zip with thanks to Chan1102, mistererikus and especially ovikovi
    For use at your own risk whilst Nokia Maploader for Mac application continues to fail with the infamous 1b0.cdt File couldn't be uploaded , I might add after deleting your existing map data and wasting your bandwidth downloading new maps which you can't utilise to add insult to injury.
    After downloading respective .zip files through links by ovikovi if using Safari in Mac probably to be found in "Downloads". You can leave them here (need to alter source in this case) or to follow instructions exactly drag them to "Documents" folder and unzip each here, giving you folders 351, 352, 353, 354 & 355.
    Click on Finder > File > New Folder - give it name WorldMap.
    For those unfamiliar with Terminal in Mac Snow Leopard ( Finder > Go > Utilities > Terminal) I suggest that you open this screenshot MergeWorldMaps and keep to hand as "spaces" are critical in Unix.
    Type after $ prompt cd Documents <hit return>
    Type after $ prompt cp -r 351/* WorldMaps <hit return> nothing appears to be happening as running in background but returns to $ prompt after command completed.
    Repeat with cp -r 352/* WorldMaps  as per terminal screenshot and so forth until complete.
    You now have WorldMaps folder with contents folders 0 - 9, a - f as here
    World Map
    On your Nokia device go to E:CITIES/diskcache and drag folders 0 - 9, a - f to trash and then copy respective folders from newly created WorldMaps  0 -9, a - f to E:\CITIES\diskcache.
    Although I have created a World Map this procedure can be used to combine any choice of decompressed country/region/state as required.
    Remember that you will also need to download respective continent indices to "ClientIndex" as detailed here

    Welcome to the forum!
    You must first decide whether you want to utilise v3.04 available here:http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/software/maps_installer_3.04_10wk32_b03_s60_3.2.sis
    which will still leave you with issue of downloading map set 00.01.25.114 or you could install version from Nokia Beta Labs here: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-for-mobile-v3-06-check-in-update by signing in with Nokia ID & password which has benefit of both using newer maps 00.02.42.122 which can be downloaded directly to 5800XM via WLAN using "Update" feature within application obviating need to utilise OVI Suite > Maps for this purpose.
    You don't say whether using Mac or Linux OS but if you need any further help to use above OVI Maps v3.04 either for downloading map data, voice file or ClientIndex then please post further.

  • User-created maps in Ovi 3.03?

    I work at a large site of a very large company. This afternoon, I discovered that my external Bluetooth GPS receiver gets a signal even when I'm *inside* the building. I know that this is not going to work in other buildings, and it might not work when I go down to the lower floor. But I would like to be able to convert the floorplan and the maps of the parking area and emergency assembly points of the site to a format usable in Ovi Maps. Something like this is possible with some other GPS software (I remember seeing this in the doc for a Palm Pilot app that I have). Is it possible with Ovi Maps 3.03 K.

    Ovi Maps 3.04 just released , go to Nokia maps nad download and try, may help, much improved !

    Sorry post appears slightly ambiguous, are you saying your N8 still restarts for no apparent reason without installing OVI Maps v3.06 from Nokia Beta Labs to replace the pre-installed v3.04 that has been deleted by "hard reset"?

  • How to install OVI Map navigation for N95

    Ok, getting very frustrated with this now.  I have given my dad my N95 to help him get around but just cant get the map navigation to work.  I downloaded the Nokia Map Loader (I had to go to a third party website as the Nokia links were all broken) and have the map/voices but when my dad tries to use the navigation it tells him he has to pay.
    Obviously, I know that Nokia have now made these services free to complete with other company's devices, I'm just being stupid and not going to the right place to download them.  When i go to www.nokia.com/maps on the phone it doesnt do anything.  I've been trying for over a day now and the phone has almost made contact with the wall a few times - sorry to be a numpty, but how do you install the OVI map navigation stuff on the N95! :-)

    @Cowes67
    Let's clear up any misunderstanding here, upon N95 there is no legititimate way of obtaining free voice navigation with version of Ovi Maps upon N95 as you would need to purchase a license!
    You should run Ovi Maps application with a microSD inserted in N95 which will re-create necessary folder structure for Nokia Suite > Maps to recognise it.
    Please note that standalone version of Nokia Maploader apart from version for Mac users ceased to be functional several years ago.
    I still have N95 in use so post again if any further queries over this issue.

  • New Ovi Maps: version 0.1.24.114 are out (!)

    For those interested, I just noticed Nokia have just released new maps version 0.1.24.114
    Prior to this they offered version 0.1.23.112
    For those waiting on new maps, now is your chance to grab them and see if they offer improvements in what you are looking for.
    I happened to notice the new version while loading Map Loader just prior to writing this.
    Contrary to what I thought, it seems Map Loader reports the version of maps that are on the server and not the version of maps already on your phone.
    Anyway, enjoy the new maps.
    I haven't even downloaded mine but will soon

    Maps confirmed working.
    All maps are from Nokia's official Gate5 server(s).

    Remember, you can always try to download your new maps with Nokia Map Loader / Maps Updater / Ovi Suite, too. The links above are only for those people that prefer to do it manually and/or can't get Nokia's software to work.
    You will need version 3 of the Nokia Ovi Maps application installed on your phone (3.01 or 3.03 or similar).
    If you have trouble getting it from Nokia, some of my previous posts have links to the map application.
    If you want to start fresh with new maps, deleting the qf file on the (root of) your memory card along with the Cities folder is the recommended way. Running the Nokia Ovi Maps application once on your phone will then re-build the Cities folder and the qf file, ready for your new maps.
    You will need to attach your phone to the computer in Mass Storage mode to extract & copy these files across. Most of these are large files (especially Europe and America), so it's only recommended for those that want major geographic regions (or the whole world on their phone). 8GB or more storage is preferred if you want all the countries that Nokia offer on your phone.
    Enjoy Nokia's new maps.

  • Newest Nokia Ovi Maps ( 0.1.25.114 ) manual downlo...

    Good news
    About a week ago I noticed Nokia released a new release version of its maps.
    Last update I noticed was back around May 14 2010 with version 0.1.24.114
    Since about 16 October 2010 the version available has been the new 0.1.25.114
    Want to install updated Ovi Maps manually? Read on.
    This is for those who have trouble with Nokia's applications, such as Ovi Suite (or those that would just prefer not to use it).
    If you normally get your maps through Nokia's Ovi Suite or any other Nokia application and are happy with it, please continue using the same method as you normally would - the procedure below is not necessary.
    Minimum requirements
    * A version of Nokia Ovi Maps 3 (or later) is needed on the phone
    * A MicroSD card in your phone with enough free space (or a phone with enough free space if it doesn't use MicroSD)
    Upgrading maps to the new version
    1) Connect the phone to the computer in Mass Storage mode (not PC Suite mode). Alternatively you may find file operations faster if you put your MicroSD card in a USB card reader. Then return it back to the phone when you are done.
    2) Back-up your cities folder on your MicroSD card to another location (DVD, computer, external hard drive, etc). Just in case.
    3) Now go ahead and delete the cities folder and qf file on the (root of) your memory card. (Make sure the MicroSD card is in the phone if it isn't already). Now run the Ovi Maps application on your phone once (so that it can re-build the cities folder and its sub-folders, along with the qf file).
    Now you have a clean folder structure with no maps. Exit the application.
    You are now ready to manually install the latest Nokia maps!
    All files below are direct off Nokia's official Gate5 server(s).
    (Gate5 is a company Nokia acquired some time ago)
    Each continent requires both the map itself and the ClientIndex file (or files) for offline searches.
    Maps for every continent are listed below. Each continent covers every country Nokia offer.

    To download all continents requires an 8GB MicroSD card (or phone storage) with most of its space free. The cities folder fills to over 6GB on your phone with everything installed.
    Australia/Oceania and Africa are both relatively small (about 130 MB each) compared to Asia (about 1 GB), America (about 1.6 GB) and Europe (about 2 GB). Larger when the zip files are extracted onto your phone.
    Enjoy Nokia's newest 0.1.25.114 maps!

    United Arab Emirates
    You can download as many countries or continents as you please. They will be added to your phone with no limit and no restriction (as long as you have enough storage space).
    * Maps always need to be extracted to cities\diskcache
    * Voices always need to be extracted to cities\diskcache\voices
    * Index files need to be extracted to cities\diskcache\ClientIndex (create the ClientIndex folder if it's not there)
    Overwrite any files if it asks you (mostly folder structure and a few identical files). The rest is additions.
    It's as simple as that.
    United Arab Emirates is listed under 'Asia' in Ovi Maps, so you need the Asian Index file to search offline in this region. If you are unsure which Index file you need for your country, download them all; they are fairly small and it doesn't hurt to have them all so every country you might like to install can be searched offline.
    Good luck

  • Problem install ovi store and ovi maps?

    my phone nokia C7 can not turn on, then I use a three finger salute to hard reset, and my phone can turn on again, but social networking application, ovi store and ovi maps are lost, I tried installing again, but always "unable to install", while applications else could, what happened? what should I do? I want to install it again.

    Unfortunately that is one of the outstanding issues with the current firmware in the N8, E7 and C7. The hard reset does not reinstall Qt which is required for the apps you mentions. See this.
    /t5/Nseries-and-S60-Smartphones/N8-Maps-problem-after-hard-reset/td-p/783327
    Although it is possible to reinstall Qt, the process is highly complicated and should only be atempted by expert users. My suggestion would be to either get your phone reflashed at your local Nokia Care Point or to wait for the next firmware up[date which will hopefully include a fix for this.

  • Why can't Apple make 'publish changes only' for non .mac users?

    The recent iWeb update to 1.1 and the now increasingly obvious differential between .mac and non .mac features has prompted me to post here today.
    I can understand comments, passwords and search facilities being a .mac only experience because it requires server side technology. I can also understand that .mac users get enhanced features like slideshows as well.
    But why is the fundamentally *basic* option to 'publish the changes only' not available to non .mac users?
    I know uploading to .mac uses a different protocol to uploading via FTP, but I don't think it is about that. Obviously the software engine in iWeb 1.1 can now track the pages that have changed, and flag those for uploading. So if the facility to do this is not available with non .mac uploading, is this some form of crippleware? Can any software engineers comment on this or am I talking off the top of my head? [And please mods, don't delete this post - I use the word 'crippleware' in its harshest form, clearly I can still use iWeb to make fantastic websites - I am asking a technical question here.]

    OK, from reading this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=486335&tstart=0
    There is a pattern: An error occurred while publishing file “/blah/blah", while file "/blah/blah" seems to be random from one person to the next, but they all share one thing and that is communication protocol.
    For iWeb to be able to publish changes to .Mac, it has to:
    1. identify if the file exists
    2. do the following:
    2a. if not exists, copy it to .Mac
    2b. if exist, do some sort comparison - CRC checksum -
    2b1. if checksums match, don't copy
    2b2. if checksums don't match copy it to .Mac
    At least I think that's what going on, I don't have .Mac so that is best I can think of. Perhaps, some Apple SW engineers can jump in here.
    Now, the bad part is iWeb has to (and I'm assuming iWeb uses WebDAV):
    1. go thru each file locally
    2. crawl its way into .Mac (WebDAV is a slow protocol) to find the the counter part.
    3. when it finds a file that matches a client side file, it has to (some how) do checksum on-the-fly across the net work (which is slow and congested)
    #3 is I think where it failed, there are many factors here: 1) networks congestion 2) latency 3) protocol overhead 4) checksum calculation time etc...
    iWeb eventually times out because any/all of the above.
    It's nice that WebDAV can author to the host yada, yada, but it's so SLOOOOOW.
    What I would do is for every publishing, I would build a files and their checksums keep it on the host (or local, must be hidden).
    For subsequence publishing, I would (use a fast protocol like FTP) download this pre-built files/checksums list. Locally, do a full publishing, making checksum comparison, the result is delta changes; upload only those. Build a new files/checksums list upload that too.
    What I mean to say is offload everything that is possible to local machine, bandwidth is PREMIUM!

  • About label Oracle Map Builder

    Hello! I have a question about Oracle Map Builder.
    There are three layers in basemap: the first - a polyline, the second - a point, and the third - a polygon with a solid color (top). Labels are included to the first two signatures. While viewing the map shows a third (polygon) layer, and the signature of the first two.
    Question: Is there a possibility to remove the appearance of signatures of the lower layers (disabling signatures by minimum scale for display is not suitable, as they are used outside of polygon layer), and how to do it?
    Thank you!

    I'm not sure I understand the question. Here's is my assumption of what the question is.
    You have three layers in a basemap : a polyline, a point, and a polygon in that order. That is polyline rendered first, points on top of it, and then the color-filled polygon layer on top of those two.
    The part I don't understand is what you mean by signatures of the polyline and point layers.
    Anyway, if the solid color-filled polygon layer is rendered last (i.e. on top) then the other two layers should not be visible at all unless their extent (the area they cover) differs from the extent for the polygon layer or the polygon layer does not completely cover the map extent or it's not a solid color fill but one with some transparency setting.
    Scale ranges can be applied to each layer when adding them to a basemap in MapBuilder. Choose the scale mode (e.g. ratio) and set the max and min scale values for each layer. e.g.
    <?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes"?>
    <map_definition>
    <theme name="STATES_DENSITY" min_scale="Infinity" max_scale="2.5E7" scale_mode="RATIO"/>
    <theme name="COUNTY_POPDENSITY" min_scale="2.5E7" max_scale="0.0" scale_mode="RATIO"/>
    <theme name="HIGHWAYS_LINE"/>
    <theme name="CITIES" min_scale="1000000.0" max_scale="1000.0" scale_mode="RATIO"/>
    </map_definition>
    The above says render the states_density layer while zoomed out to the full extent and up until the user zooms in to a 1:250,000,000 scale. When zoomed in further do not render/display the states population density layer. Display the county population density instead. Always display the highways. And start to display cities when the map in zoomed to 1:1,000,000 and up until 1:1,000 scale.
    If you want to set the labeling scale ranges on a per layer (theme) basis then set it using the Other Properties panel in Map Builder. For the Cities layer above the styling rule with label scale ranges set is:
    <styling_rules>
    <scale_ranges>
    <mode> RATIO </mode>
    <min_labeling_scale> 1.0E8 </min_labeling_scale>
    <max_labeling_scale> 10000.0 </max_labeling_scale>
    </scale_ranges>
    <rule>
    <features style="M.ALL_CITY_L1_8X8"> (POP90 &gt; 1000000) </features>
    <label column="CITY" style="T.S03_CITIES_L1"> 1 </label>
    </rule>
    </styling_rules>
    i.e. show city names from 1:100,000,000 till 1:10,000
    1/100,000,000 is a smaller number than 1/10,000
    Hope this helps.

  • The reason, why NOKIA made ovi maps free ? read th...

    Helsinki - Nokia made a breakthrough by offering maps and GPS navigation service is completely free for users smartphone. Step the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer makes the GPS industry players stressed. Google is also subject to receive the effects.
    "We are offering navigation for cars and pedestrians in 74 countries in 46 languages. Ovi Maps truly free," Jukka Husio said, director of marketing services Nokia in Helsinki, as quoted by the AFP detikINET on Friday (22/1/2010) . The new version's Ovi Maps can be downloaded at the Nokia website is, to provide full navigation features like voice guidance for driving, 180 state map, directions and content from leading partners such as Lonely Planet and Time Out. All are available without charge in the handset Nokia N97 mini, N97, 5800, E72, X6, E55, E52, 6730 Classic, 6710 Navigator and 5320.
    Navigation industry players such as Tom Tom and Garmin affected by this initiative is estimated to Nokia's. And iSupply's prediction that the GPS market is likely to fall. Nokia also seemed to challenge Google is actively developing the navigation for free for Android handsets, such as the Motorola Droid.
    For Nokia itself, of course, the move to improve its position in the global smartphone market. Some time later, Nokia is losing market share captured the iPhone and BlackBerry.
    "I think Nokia's intention they can stop the decline in the smartphone market with that step. This service is useful and may attract enthusiasts because it become free. But I do not know if will be enough to stop the decline in market share of Nokia," said analyst Michael Schroeder of the FIM. (Fyk / Faw)

  • Mac user locks files for Windows users on NFS shares

    Hi Everyone,
    We run a mostly Windows environment here at my school and have two AD servers which also do our file shares for AD users. Every user has a network drive mapped to L on Windows, and this is mounted on the dock of our Mac users (all Macs are bound to the AD for auth and the OD for management). We also have shared folders for different groups of people, such as admissions or art (where the issue is). Most of these divisions are only Windows, so file sharing isn't and issue - but this is not the case in our Art department.
    We have a shared folder (T on Windows) setup for users of the Art department with mostly Office docs in it. Windows users can write to the share just fine, just as the Mac users can. The issue comes up once a Mac user edits and saves the file (all to the share) - Windows users are now locked out of the file because the permissions are reset. What can we do to fix this issue? It's obnoxious having to go and reset the permissions after every edit from a Mac user.
    Thanks,
    -MRCUR

    We also have that same problem. We don't actually solved the issue but we what we do did is just unlock the files once and even they are edited or opened in windows or mac, it does not lock the file. We use windows pc and connect to the drives and just simply right clicking the file then properties a button will show in the properties window saying "unlock". After we did that, those files was never locked out again.
