Mac vs PC for all in one audio/video workstation?

Well, I have been a Mac user for my whole life.
The more I get involved with motion graphics and post production, as well as audio, and considering the direction Adobe seems to be going with their apps, I am considering going to a PC.
PCs seem to have a much greater flexibility for GPUs in kind and variety, and numerous other modular external components, among other things. Not to mention the huge difference in price for the setup you get.
The consensus among my peers is that Mac is more stable, but that appears to be the only upside to using a Mac for post production. They also seem to be having a much shorter shelf life, which means I end up paying out more over a shorter and shorter time to do the same tasks. Apple seems to be ditching the pro market slowly buy surely.
If the new Mac Pro doesn't offer significant enhancements this go around, I think I am going to move to PC for pro video/audio. Hopefully it will even be offered by summer so I have something to compare.
Now, i dont have any interest in doing character animation of anything like that, but would like to do architectural rendering, motion graphics, and product modeling, and photo-real stills.
I would like to run Cinema 4d, use Vray with it, all the Adobe production and design apps, and Ableton, Pro Tools, and audio apps like that, with something like the Nvidia Maximus configuration (or better if I choose) in the box.
So to all of you out there in the industry, let me know what your perspective is on this. Or even if the Mac Pro stays relatively the same, will the new Nvidia K5000 be all the power I need to work efficiently with the above apps and goals?
And how do you feel about Cinema 4D vs 3DS Max for the above mentioned apps? Or something else a better app for what I would like to produce?
Thanks in advance.

That part is very true.
The consensus among my peers is that Mac is more stable
That part isn't. (Meaning both systems have issues.)

Deleting audio file on device + Mac once and for all
    Hi and good day,
I don't listen much to music, but mostly audio files (radio programmes etc.)
But there is still one big drawback with iTunes:
What I want to do is to be able to __delete__ an audio file (or song)
on my iPad/iPod/iPhone (the Mac Library is there via Home Sharing)
    once and for all:
I don't want to have to go back to iTunes and delete them there.
I want to delete them on the device and forget about them!
    Please Apple it's about time.
    Any suggestions welcome!
    with best regards,

  • Functionality for seeking media file(audio/video) files

    Hi
In my project my web-application initializes Quick Time media player
    for playing media files(audio/video).
My problem is when I drag my task bar on the media player my application could not play from that point. From the point I drag the bar my media player in web-application has to play from that point.
How can I write code in servlet for SEEKING FUNCTIONALITY.
    Thank U

If you uncheck a movie by its name it won't get listed on the tv. So there isn't actually any need to give the two versions of the same movie a different name.
So for the movie encoded for tv, check its name and it will appear on the tv.
For the movie encoded for ipod, uncheck its name so it won't appear on the tv and add it to a playlist for syncing with your ipod.

  • Software for All-In-One 3210 Mac 10.6.8

I am trying to install a bluetooth to my All-In-One printer. Sounds pretty simple from what I have read on the HP site. My issue isn't with this. Though this printer works with my Macbook Pro, I have never needed to install the software. Now that I want to install the software, the CD is of course missing, and I cannot locate the correct software for my Macbook. My Mac is currently 10.6.8. I read this same question somewhere else on this form and they said to download a different verison. 10.2.8 I believe. Tried that, failed. Installer didn't even recongize the 3210 printer and only gave me the option for a 4000 and 3000 verison. So, any clues on to what I need to do? To be more clear, I need the 3210 software for the Mac 10.6.8 verison. Help please?! I'm dying to set up a wireless printer.

    Hello Bethany5082,
Thanks for the post. Good news, I was able to locate the driver download for this printer and OS X 10.6. I've included the link below. Good Luck!

  • Suggestions for all in one wireless printer to work with iMac

I am looking for a new all in one that will work with my iMac & Airport

About a month ago I got an HP Photosmart Premium c410 AIO (print, copy, scan, fax). I don't remember the price, but I think it was about $200.  Wireless setup was easy and it works fine so far.  I also use it in a Wi-Fi (Airport) network with a Windows 7 PC and 2 Win 7 laptops; the HP software for Windows is _much_ more user friendly, versatile and faster than the Mac s/w IMHO.   The software for it on a 2011 27" Intel iMac running SL is more stripped down and slower to connect, but it works OK. I haven't upgraded the OS to Lion yet due to numerous complaints.
The only gripe is that like most current HP printers, it eats cartridges, even the XL ones.  The ePrint function works fine with an iPad (version 1).  Print quality is OK for my uses, i.e.,  letters, photos on plain paper and up to 8.5" X 11" good photo paper).
I also connect to a one-year old HP Photosmart c310 my daughter brought home from college for the summer - seems to be a pretty similar ePrinter, but without the fax capability.  This works as well as the c410 near as I can tell. It probably cost about $120.

Thank you Kappy. I guess I have to decide to purchase a separate monitor and keyboard for this mini PC computer then. And also find extra space in my office. I'm happy you answered my question so quickly.

  • One isight, two macs with ichatAV.  Why no one way video?

    Hi everyone,
I'm kinda surprised this has never been discussed before, I looked pretty hard, but I could be wrong.
Here's my question, is it possible to have only one person with a webcam (iSight in this case) and still have a one way video conference? Specifically, my dad has an iMac G4 with Tiger and an iSight attached. I have a powerbook G4 with Tiger and rarely have the ability to have an iSight attached because of mobility and all. Is there a way to see my dad when I start an ichat with him without having my camera attached? Is there a work around? If not, then I gotta ask the obvious question, WHY? It seems pretty feasible. One person has a camera the other doesn't and one person would like to see the other in an ichat.
Any help or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Your dad might have to disconnect and reconnect in order to see the one-way video chat option under the Buddies menu. This happened to me the other day when I tried using iChat/iSight for the first time. I have an iSight and my parents don't. Until I tried disconnecting/reconnecting the only option in the Buddies menu was for a standard two-way video chat.

  • Using Archlinux as an Audio/Video workstation

I'm thinking of playing around with making Arch an Audio/Video/Graphics workstation for editing & producing stuff. I have installed a bunch of apps like blender, cinnerela, audacity , hydrogen, lmms ....
But the problem is that every app is missing something and you must use another app for that, and i can't set up a good workflow of things.
So can you share your tips & tricks for setting your "perfect" setup for a multimedia workstation?

  • Need driver for All-in-One F4480 for Mac OS 10.9

    Hi,
My scanner on the F4480 was giving me an error that my software may not be compatible with my OS (Mac OS 10.9) and that I should uninstall.  Before doing so I checked the HP site for driver updates, which directed me to check the Apple Software updates.  There was no update available via Apple Software, so I uninstalled the driver.  However, now I cannot find a way to re-install the driver since there is no link to download the driver on the HP site -- only instructions to go thru the Apple Software Update.
Now I cannot print or scan.
I've gone thru Apple System Prefs > Printers and Scanners but the printer is not showing up in my list or giving me an option to add it.
Please help.  The HP site seems useless because it does not provide a download link, only instruction that Apple Software update will "know" to update the HP software.  There's no hint on what to do if you've uninstalled the software.
    thank you!

    Hi katiekawa,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I have done some research and I have found that a Full Feature Software and Driver package is NOT available for the Mac 10.9 operating system.
Please click on the following link for OS X v10.9 Mavericks: Installing and Using the Printer on a Mac.
