Mac vs. PC Graphic profile - Underexposed photos

Is there a way to assign the PC graphic profile to png or jpg images?
Can have some opinions how to deal with the difference in color/ graphic profiles between PC and Mac. My fotos look very dark on PC. I can't ignore it! If i'd fix the contrast, exposure manually it would feel like working blindfolded because as i work on a mac i could only estimate how it looks like on a PC. So i wonder if there is a program/ profile which i can apply to an image and thus see how it exactly looks like on PC.
By the way are there any articles which describe the issue in detailed technical terms? Can't the major Browser distributors e.g. Firefow fix this issue on a browser level (pls. ignore the question if it results from wrong technical understanding of the issue).

Harpo,
Is this a problem that you cannot remedy regarless what you do as each computer will display images differently not based on what you did but what the users settings are and the quality of their equipment?
I found that presentations that I used on my mac were always much more intense in colors and more attractive than on any PC no matter what we did. I suspect the same is true for web pages, but I am no expert.

  • PSE8 for Mac: Convert to DNG in Bridge Photo Downloader fails

Using PSE8 for Mac.  When I get RAW photos from Bridge and specify "Convert to DNG" in the advanced options of the Photo Downloader, the RAW files download but the conversion to DNG fails for every image.  I can successfully convert using the standalone DNG Converter, but I would like to use the option in the Photo Downloader that comes with Bridge.  I'm in touch with Adobe Support on this but not having a lot of luck.  Has anyone had this problem or know what to do?
Also, I cannot see the RAW images either in the Photo Downloader or in Bridge.  They show up as blue squares with a flower graphic on them in the Downloader, and as white squares in Bridge.  I can only see images once I open them in Elements.  Is this normal?

Also, I cannot see the RAW images either in the Photo Downloader or in Bridge.
This is the source of your problem. You need to update the raw converter in bridge, which ships with a very old version (5.0). In bridge, go to help>updates and let it do its thing.

  • IMac vs Mac Pro for Graphic Design Studio

We are upgrading the macs in our in-house graphics department (3 mac users) and wanted to see if anyone had advice on weather to choose a high end iMac or the new 2014 Mac Pro. To help here is what we do on our macs (currently 20inch iMacs).
Photoshop - Photo retouching, Editing, Compositing sometimes many layers
InDesign - Layout from posters to banners to 100 pg books.
Dreamweaver - Internal and external websites design and maintenance
Illustrator - graphics simple and complicated (large and small illustrator files)
    Flash - Some animation
(Video Editing)  Final Cut - Conversion from Windows Media Files and editing of short videos
We often have many of these programs open at once in addition to MS Office (outlook word power point).
For a maxed out iMac 27 to a mid range mac Pro there is roughly $2000 difference or so (once you buy the monitor you need for the Mac Pro). Do you think the applications we use above would greatly benefit from the MacPro vs the iMac? We don’t really do any 3D work or rendering. But we do want the computers to last several years and need them to be very reliable. I have to submit proposal and any advice would be helpful!
    Thanks,
    J

I wish there was a sticky for this as "iMac vs nMP" is common daily question and very much the same basic specs and needs.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5772339?tstart=0
As in past, 6 (or maybe 8) cores, base memory so you can save and upgrade from 3rd party.
Monitors vary too much in cost range, and you can do better outside Apple, but are one time cost.
A Mac Pro only needs to be replaced half as often, can be upgraded (cpu, RAM, flash SSD storage, even GPU). Hard to other than Apple stopping support in 5-6 years or software by then catching up or putting more demands on computers.
An iMac is not going to run as cool and quiet and because of its shape has to be allowed to run hotter it seems. You can stress and pound on those Xeon systems all day max it out and it is quiet beast.
See what a graphic and tech professional has in recommendations:
    www.macperformanceguide.com
Also, www.barefeats.com has done some app testing and FCP-X is one place where the dual GPU pays off.
the "nMP" is actually called "Late 2013" but I agree, other than a few 10s of t housands sold would better easier to be called an Early 2014 (there could be a Late 2014 as well).
Reliable = Mac Pro - mine is going to be 8 yrs old and is better today than it ever was only if I found the need to run Mountain Lion or above or App Store's newest version of say iPhoto is that an issue (security updates though would be nice to see).

  • How can I set up my Mac for two users to share photos, music etc

How can I set up my Mac for two users to share photos, music etc?

On the Mac with the libraries you want to share:
iTunes Preferences click on the Sharing tab and put a tick in 'Share by library on local network'.
iPhoto Preferences click on Sharing and put a tick against 'Share my photos'.
When launching the same apps on other Macs on the network the libraries should be available, listed on the left.

I have a G5 mac using ver 10.4.11 and a newer mac using ver 10.8.4 these are networked. using the new mac i looked up my my photo on the old mac. It then said you need to upgrade your library which it did. Now the old mac can not open the photos and say that I need to upgrade my I photo to a newer version. The old mac has no more support from apple in software update so I am not sure where I should go from here. can I use new soft ware with the old mac

The other part of the upgrade message was a warning that once you upgraded you would no longer be able to open the library with the old version which is exaclty what you did and what happened when you choose to continue
The iphoto library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto. Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iphoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library. Cancel or upgrade.
So now your choices are to not use iPhoto with the previous version using it onky with the newer version, restore your backup from before you did this upgrade or purchase iPhoto Library Manager and use it to rebuild the library using the older version of iPhoto (instructions are on their web site) thereby downgrading it (without projects)

  • I Start a New am so frustrated with problems syncing photos on my iPad. I choose which files to sync but get deleted photos in my albums, my photos are in the wrong albums and the weirdest of all- I now have strange graphics and Facebook photos in albums!

I have spent several hours trying to find a solution to the following problems. After syncing my IPad with ITunes, I end up with photos that I previously deleted in my albums, duplicate photos, albums that have wrong pictures in them and weirdest of all, strange graphics and Facebook photos that are not even mine. Right now I hate this thing!
I have scanned the support forums, Googled it, deleted several photo caches, spent days editing my photo files, checked the specific folders I wanted to sync and it seems like it's not syncing, just adding the same photos and strange crap that it already had on it. Oh please help me!
    Thanks!

OK....I'm stumped.  The message you are seeing is typically there to protect someone from syncing with a different computer/iTunes account.  Is there any way anyone else has used your iPad and possibly connected it to their computer?

  • Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?    Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?

I have 2 questions about the new Photos app for Mac (I'm running 10.10.3 on my MacBook Air 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 mid 2012)):
1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.

1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
You can, but I would wait, until you have have been working with Photos for some time and are sure, that everything migrated well. There may be hidden flaws in your library and teething problems with Photos. Don't be in a hurry to abandon iPhoto completely. You may need to go back, until bugs have been fixed.  Th Photos Library does not duplicate the photos in your iPhoto Library. the media files are shared and do not need extra space: See:  Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.
If you have enough iCloud storage.  But Photos will still need space for local thumbnails on all devices.
See:  Apple - OS X - Photos Preview
Fill your library, not your device.
iCloud Photo Library can help you make the most of the space on your Mac. When you choose “Optimize Mac Storage,” all your full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud in their original formats, with storage-saving versions kept on your Mac as space is needed. You can also optimize storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, so you can access more photos and videos than ever before. You get 5GB of free storage in iCloud — and as your library grows, you have the option to choose a plan for up to 1TB.

If someone steals my iPhone and deletes all pictures, that will sync to my Mac. So then all my photos are lost! How do I safeguard against this?

If your phone (plus syncing) is the only place you keep your pictures you are asking for trouble, theft or not. Back up onto an external hard disk which is only mounted when you need it, then nothing external can erase them. Then make use of Apple's facilities for protecting your phone:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen - Apple Support
    iCloud: Use Lost Mode
    iCloud: Find My iPhone overview

  • Iphoto on my used mac mini will not open my photos from my new macbook air, it says to update software but there arent any available.. please help

iphoto on my used mac mini will not open my photos from my new macbook air,  it says something about updating the software, but i checked and there arent any updates available... please help

    Sorry for the second post..
I currently do not have an older version of iPhoto to test this on, but you might also try coping the Originals from the iPhoto Library of iPhoto 11.
    To do that;
    1. Right (control) click on the iPhoto Library in the Picture Folder on the MacBook Air
    2. Select Show Package Content.
    3. Click on the Originals Folder
    4. Navigate to the disired Event or photos and copy those images to your Flash or External Drive, then copy those to the older version of iPhoto.
Beware do not move, add or delete anything in the iPhoto Library, Apple has intensionally hidden it in later versions to prevent people from messing things up.

I'd create a client copy (SAP_UCSV) from the source system.

plunked down WAY TOO MUCH on upgrades to Beige/Yosemite/MDD over the years, enough that "penny wise, pound foolish" I could have had Starbucks instead and gotten a new Mac.
    Hello Hatter, you wrote:
I don't like to work on a system that pegs cpu @ 100%, I want it to run smooth and graceful. I don't need $5000 to get there. And you can have a LOT of fun upgrading Mac Pro and gradually add what you want to. And if you are adventurous... get yrs out of it in the process.
Software and OS upgrades have always helped market new hardware.
Number one: I don't come anywhere near 100 percent cpu usage at all when I am using my MDD. Though, I don't use Apple's complex software, once in a blue moon I will burn DVD's or CD's, but this is fast enough for me.
Secondly: You have owned an MDD far longer than I have. I just recently got this MDD which is a 2003 dual 1.25 - the VERY VERY last one before the G5 came out. I am happy with this machine as it is doing everything that my digital audio did, but faster. I don't need windows, though if emulation of TI-99/4A, MAME, and MESS become a problem, I might consider a MAC MINI alongside my MDD. I am in no way shape of form going to get rid of the G4. Plus, I have so much fun with the powerpc processor and its capabilities. I know, the bus speed is 167, but consider this. I came from a digital audio to this MDD and it only cost me 400 dollars on craigslist. The condition:
Brand spanking new! The owner told me he had never had any problems with it. No over heating problems, nothing! The only problem I had with it was a bad front panel board - but thats all in the past.
True, I personally wouldn't plunk down any more money as far as CPU upgrades go since the 1.8 and 1.6 duals don't offer L3 cache. If anything, I would get at low price a 1.42 board to put in this machine and make it dual 1.42, though 10 percent increase is really miniscule.
Which brings me to the next point - of course, upgrading a Beige, Yosemite was a waste of money because for what those systems were worth they ran on a G3 processor. But, we are talking about a dual 1.25/1.42 MDD, not G3.
I do like the Intel macs, though from what you heard about me spewing hatred towards them and the architecture, I was just plainly upset that day for no reason and decided to take it out on others. For that, I am deeply sorry. However, I plan to get a Mac intel mini to be networked alongside my MDD. I just realized that really for what I use my MAC for, I wouldn't need a mac pro or anything remotely expensive, given right now that I am just starting a new job in a few weeks.
Finally, I am still at odds of whether to upgrade to Leopard, since most of my software is all tiger oriented. I originally had Panther 2 years ago and I was hesitant about going to Tiger, but I did and I am glad I did since I see the performance it is giving me.
So, the MDD is not a bad machine and really isn't as slow as one would think - at least for what I use my system for. Explain to me why you are getting 100 percent cpu on yours?

  • Installing Elements 9 on my Mac Will this duplicate my existing photos on file (65K) ?

Installing Elements 9 on my Mac Will this duplicate my existing photos on file (65K) ? Or will it use a link to work on the pictures and save only the additions?

I'm not quite sure why you would think that Photoshop Elements would duplicate your existing photos. If you have had Elements 9 installed previously, and have a catalog, the new installation will utilize that catalog. However, Elements isn't going to automatically duplicate all of your images. Images are never actually "in" Elements. Elements simply points to the images wherever they are located on your system.

  • Do mac's handle graphic's differently?

Ever since I got my macbook a year ago I have been dying to discard my pc's but I have one very large concern. I am a WoW gamer and although it seems to run well on imac's I am concerned that the 512mb graphics card will not be sufficient for the new WoW expansion. Spending 2k on a pc would give me the option of SLI and dual graphic's cards, ( plenty of graphic memory to run the game at max settings and quite a few mod's without a hiccup ), but Mac offers none of this, so I started thinking, maybe the cards are not as good, because Mac's handle graphic's differently than pc's, they don't need all the power? And everyone I have asked, from genius to lover, cannot answer this question for me. Now, let me say that running a G5 and upgrading to a two thousand dollar video card is not an option for me, so, can someone please tell me I can still have my imac, and my WoW too?

yeh, i said in my post i would like to do away with my pc's, meaning i have not as of yet. I am currently looking at the imac. And according to apple, the macpro does not support multiple graphic's cards, nor SLI. and again, going macpro would cost an additional grand just for the box, and two more grand for the 1.5 graphics card, all else is unsupported by apple. So again, I ask, do mac's handle graphic's differently? Nothing else would explain the wimpy graphic's options.

    RDA972, thanks for the reply.
Yes i am using a PC, i just wanted to ask before rebooting the laptop and disabling the Hyper threading,Is it possible to have a unfinalized Premier Pro project saved as a Adobe premier file on to my USB, then that saved file on the USB stick, inserted into a different Laptop that wasn't originally used to make the Premier Pro project, but has Adobe Media encoder and adobe creative cloud in the same version.
the reason i asked this is because this is my situation and i was wondering if the different Pc had anything to do with the exporting
