MAC vs WIN

Hi again for everybody in there.
Here I'm posting my personal, non oficial, point of view about MAC's and WIN's.
1. WIN has a lot of software? Yes it does, far from MAC, you can find a sort of software that can match with your taste with low costs also. Including games!
2. WIN has a lot of peripherals? Yes it does, far from MAC, since some devices are still just working on WIN OS.
3. WIN hardware is more cheaper than MAC? Yes it is on desktop series. But if you compare on lap's you can see that cost benefit is more reliable for PB's.
4. WIN keeps high maintenance? Yes it does, far far far from MAC. I realized this buying the last PB G4.
5. So what should you buy, keep or use? Buy both! Keep a MAC if you want to edit, create, perform or whatever you want on Multimedia tasks. But if you want gaming just go and buy a WIN CPU, since hardware prices are more cheaper than MAC and you can find a high sorting of brands to build by your own responsiblity, but also keep in mind that if you are looking for high performance with good warranty you should buy a branded CPU with no easy hardware upgrade or buy a MAC to use it in high performance for serious computing, paying high but keeping it for several more more years away comparing with WIN.
Since using my new PB (I'm a switcher) my computing behavior has changed a lot. On the past I used PC for almost all jobs, gaming, creations, editions etc... but using PB I realized that computers are made really for serious works. It's like driving a Porsche (MAC) that comes with a lot of comodities or driving an old fashioned beattle (WIN) where you can perform a lot of things without carrying the asset you invested on. On the cost benefit point of view, don't expend your money on high priced CPU's from both side. Buy a iMAC or a PB and also build your own WIN CPU to switch some tasks that you can't do on one of the OS's you are using and If you have extra money, buy a Playstation or Xbox to play Winning Eleven 8.

Third-party NTFS software interferes with the Apple NTFS drivers, which control whether you can see the Bootcamp partition in the Startup Disk option. As a test, can you uninstall all third-party NTFS software and check System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

It's not that you can't format it because you have no backup, it's because you'll lose everything when you do. Lesson learned. Always have a backup.

If you want to set which OS your system boots into (provided Windows is installed using BootCamp and not a virtualization option such as Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox), just hold the "Option" key down when you turn your computer on. Continue to hold the key down until you see the options for booting into the OS of your choice. Just click on the arrow under the one you wish (tap to click won't work here if you have it enabled... you'll need to physically click the trackpad). If you want to change which OS your system normally boots into, just go into System Preferences in OS X and select "Starup Disk". Whichever OS you select here will be the OS your system will automatically boot into.

Yes it should work transferring PSE10 from Mac to Mac. There is a download link below for PSE10, which your friend could use. There is a formal licence transfer process but it’s not necessary for your friend to register the product (activation is sufficient) although he couldn’t benefit from future upgrade pricing without registration. Serial numbers typically can only be registered one time.
Boxed versions of PSE are normally multi-platform with disks for both Windows and Mac; so the serial number is the same. Downloads have tended to be single platform only although I believe the current version PSE12 will work on both Windows and Mac with the same serial number – boxed or download.

OK, I start with "I Know..." look thru old posts to find answers.......
Just Spent last 4 Hours doing that. I understand how frustrating it can be to keep answering the same questions (Really Do) but a Great Fix for that would be finding Some Way to make it possible for us to FIND those old posts we are supposed to look for. I have read countless "Close, but not quite" discussions. I give up.
I'm assuming after entering all my machines in the database you can see those at the bottom of the post?? (I have seen others posts that had these details) to save space, I wont repete all that here other than to say I have MANY Apple Products (Phone, Pad, TV, Laptop, Mini...) and they all work & play with each other with fluid ease...... then there is the ONE... PC Laptop. Running Win-7.
NOTE: ALL of this is INSIDE My Home Network (Apple Time Machine Wireless) so no Internet stuff should be necessary.
I'm sure it is asking way too much, but I sure would like to be able to use the PC like any of my other mac's. I have managed to share a drive (External HDD) from the Mac Mini (Lion) and by "Mapping a Network Drive" on the PC it ...sometimes connects on it's own, when it doesn't it's simple enough to log back in and get it back but ....
As an example, with my Mac Book Pro. I can SEE all the other devices, Log into them, Share print & data and "Screen Share" to remotely administer (eg. the Mini from the Laptop)........... What I'm looking for is those same abilities on the PC.

Frankly the only posts I found even close seemed to be about making a lone Mac work on an existing PC Workgroup Network. This is the Flip Side, One Lone PC is a world of Mac's. I have to admit my PC skills are rusty. I was a PC Guy that got "Converted" used to know Lots of the in's & out's of the PC's, but that was about 4 Operating Systems Ago (2000 & XP-Pro) I find I now feel like a Newbie again plodding along in the new MS OS again.
Being able to see the other machines would be a plus, connecting to all the drives & my NAS would be Great, but the Screen Sharing would be my Top Wish (If it's even possible) My various Mac's often do work that is LONG Running (sa Rendering Long Video Files, etc.) that can run on their own for long periods and Occasionally Need just a Nudge from me to get started again. This is why the Screen Share is a Big Deal for me. Do some work, Check in on #1, start it's next process, log out, check on #2, move some files and begin a new Process, log out, check on #3, then go back to work.... and I'm Not Always at my desk, so being able to quickly Pop in & out of each machine is a BIG PLUS for me.
I tried some Remote Desktop Software a while back when I was trying to connect my iPad to my Home Mac Network from Outside my home and discovered I knew Less than Squat about that. Tried & Failed to get software to work even after several emails with the developer of the APP. I couldn't even understand what he was talking about (and I have a CS Degree ??... OK an Old One on Main Frames, not PC's but I'm no Dummy and he was talking WAY over my head) So I pretty much gave up on that option.

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 n above) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

One Licence for MAC and WIN?

I would like to purchase Lightroom. As I understand I can run the program with one licence on a desktop and a laptop, but not use it on both devices at the same time. My Desktop is a MAC, my Laptop runs on Windows 7. Is this still possible with the same licence?

Custom icon for mac on win machine

My situation is the reverse of the one below. I'm working on
a PC and want a Mac icon. I've designed one and have the .icns on
my win machine. Do I need to be on a Mac to change the icon. I
tried to do it on a mac by pening the icon (.icns file) in Preview.
Then cmd-c (copy). Then I clicked once on the icon of the Projector
I want to change. I Hit cmd-i. Clicked on the area of the Get Info
box where it shows the icon and press cmd-v. AND NOTHING
HAPPENED.

It does work, but I don't remember the steps exactly. Perhaps
get info
on the icns file, select its Icon and copy, get info on the
projector
and paste into the icon box.
For Mac projectors in general, I find it's better to provide
a bundle.
You can change the bundle icon without having to worry about
the
projector icon. I think the info.plist file provides the icon
for the
bundle, but it's been a while and memory fails me. Here's a

Quality of print Mac vs Win

since 08/2009 I am New on Mac.
in former times my printer Canon iP4300 worked under Win XP very well, the photos where fine.
now under Mac OS X the colors are much too dark. I can not print my photos.
I have installed the newest drivers.
i have tested colorsync: all is good.
What to do??

I have downloaded the original canon printer driver, but i can not find, where it was saved. So I can not select it.
It sounds like the Canon software is not installed. Download it again and install it. Delete your current printers and re-create them with the correct drivers.

Getting files to my mac from Win XP

Hi.
I'm trying to work out how I can get the files from my Win XP computer to my iMac. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.5 and I don't have the slightest clue what to do beyond the following:
I've enabled SMB, done the whole process in the "Sharing" menu. I can see the Mac in my WinXP Workgroup, but I can't access it.
Basically, how do I access my Mac from my WinXP computer, and where do I go to get the files from my WinXP computer onto my Mac?
Sorry if this has been asked a million times, it's getting late.

But I do not see anywhere the ability to create these files in "Publish Settings" (no Mac or Windows box to check as in CS5). I read in using Flash CC that such files were not supported (??). How can I do?

I'm sorry, I did not see an answer to my problem in the comments on your site. I read that you worked on the extension so that the projector works as well as for mac / pc is independent of the platform used.
I use a mac (icore i7 OS10.7.5) and I answer as flash cc when I export to Win:
"Error Win Projector Could not be created!.
Mac Projector - Animation succes.app created successfully! "

Mac unathorizing Win 7 files.

Im trying to work on a windows 7 and mac network. We are using photoshop and saving a the JPGS on a MAC. Erery time a win 7 user saves files the mac it sets restricted permissions to that file. And windows computers cant open them util the new permissions are set to read & write again.
The files, folders and subfolders were all previously set to read&write. The OS we are using is 10.6.8.

unless you have Windows programs that needs 64-bit Windows, I would say use 32-bit Windows 7.
The other 'advantage' of 64-bit Windows (useage of more than 4GB RAM) is not applicable with MacMini and Fusion.

Working folder & template questions (Mac and Win)

I'm using Captivate for Mac (both 5.5 and 6). In the recording preferences (Project Info) there is a field for "Working folder" for FMR in Captivate 5.5 or Video Demo in Captivate 6.
For new blank projects, it appears that the Working folder is automatically generated to have a path name:
/private/var/folders/.....
Question #1: Where is this location on a Mac? (I can't find it.)
Question #2: Is this location different from the "Adobe Captivate Cached Projects" folder in my Documents folder on a Mac?
On a related topic, a client has provided me with a template that currently has this path for the Working folder:
C:\Users\JaneSmith\AppData\Local\Temp\CP344026233798Session\ForFMR344026233908
Obviously, this path is valid only on Jane Smith's Win PC and is useless for any other Captivate user, whether on Windows or Mac. In fact, when I modify certain default preferences for this template, I get an error message: "The specified working folder could not be created. Please enter a valid location to continue." So I have to change it to a local Mac path.
Question #3: Which location do I use for the Working folder? Do I use the "/private/var/folders/" location (wherever that is). Do I create any old folder? Or do I use the "Adobe Captivate Cached Projects" folder?
Question #4: I need to share this modified template with several Captivate users working on this project (could be using either Mac or Windows). If a template contains a working folder specific to my computer, must every user re-modify the template and re-set the working folder location for his/her specific computer?
Question #5: If I'm not mistaken, temp/working folders for similar software are usually set at the application level, not the project/document level. Is there a good reason why that convention isn't followed in Captivate?

Installing an AIR App on Mac and Win

All -
I am converting an Authorware program to Flash/AIR. In the
original program, we distributed a full installer on CD. We would
like to do this again for the new version. This would include
Windows and Mac. Can someone explain what resources I would put on
the CD to allow the customer to install everything needed, assuming
there's no AIR runtime on the computer. If this can't be done by a
non-technical end user we probably won't be able to use AIR.
Perhaps we'd be stuck with Zinc or just a Win Mac Flash projector.
Any thoughts?

"Share cannot be found" Help needed MAC to WIN XP

I have a MBP and I am attempting to connect to a Win XP Desktop with a external USB hard drive attached. I can access through finder ANY share on ANY internal hard drive on the XP computer no problem. I can SEE any share I create on the USB hard drive pop up in finder. When I go to access the share on the external USB I get an error saying "The operation cannot be completed because the original item for [sharename] cannot be found." Once again any share that is on a internal harddrive is fully accessable. I have no issues accessing any mac shares from XP. JUST no access on the mac from the USB HD... Any Solutions? Ideas? Chants? Sacred Dances? I almost want to throw the MBP out the window... Did I mention it used to work fine before I upgraded to leopard?

Spry Navigation Mac vs Win

Created Spry menu bar. works fine on Mac/Safari. On Win XP/IE
7 it works but looks bad- the length of each box differs based on
text length. Have been told, text within the boxes does not show in
IE6. Help.

While I have fixed the box width issue, I continue to have
problems here. My menu worked perfect on the Mac OS/Safari and
FireFox, but fails on Win IE7 and IE6. The 2nd level menus are not
aligned with the 1st level parent. It is clearly something I did-
because if I build a fresh menu without any custom to the CSS , it
works as it should and parent/child are all properly aligned.
But how to find what I did that messes it up, except to try
and rebuild testing at each change to the CSS?
I ran the CSS through the W3C CSS Validator, but unclear how-
now that I have those errors to find them and fix them in my
CSS.
