Mac - Windows

I am brand new to Dreamweaver and need help with this
question. My Town's main web site was originally set up using
Dreamweaver 6 and a Windows based PC. I would like to help maintain
the site along with another staff person. I have a MacBook Pro and
she has a Windows machine with Dreamweaver 6 loaded. The question
is can I interface with my MacBook Pro and a newer version of
Dreamweaver or do we both need to use the same operating system?
Thank in advance for any help you can offer!

Not correct. Template functionality is identical in MX and
CS3 (more or
less). DW4 was the breakpoint.
And using templates in a shared environment like this is a
major PITA.

  • Advice on External HDD for Mac & Windows

    Hello
I am looking for advice regarding using a external HHD for Mac & Windows.
I searched the forum, but failed to find a updated thread on this subject matter.
I will be using the drive on both platforms regularly.
Should i use HFS+ with a small FAT32 partition to keep MacDrive on?
What is a good way to approach this?
Im not sure what would be optimal for both platforms.
Thanks in advance for your input.

    Why just one?
Shopping list I can think of:
Vista: NTFS for backups and storage. Can be read by, but not written, Mac OS.
MacDrive 7: can access HFS+ from within Windows (but not x64 versions)
WinClone 1.5: to make backups of Windows from within Mac OS (requires disk image or partition to hold volume image)
SuperDuper: essential for OS X backups and bootable clone.
A drive that is used for emergency only and maybe backup partition, separate from your OS X and windows clone drive.
You can create large partitions with Disk Utility to be FAT32. Read and write in both, but not the best file system and limited to files less than 4GB.
FW800 would be fast and efficient interface. Also, eSATA if possible.

  • External drive for both Mac & Windows

I'd like to be able to do the smart thing and have a backup of the drives on my iMac. I've got Windows installed thru Boot Camp, which I access using VMware Fusion.
When I visited an Apple Store, one of the guys there told me that I could get an external hard drive, format it for each drive, and Time Machine would back it up. Having no idea how to do this, I thought I'd check here.
First of all, I'm not sure whether to get a 500GB or 1TB external HD--I have a 500GB HD on my iMac, but I'm only using roughly 100GB of it, and I have no plans to use much more than 150GB. Do I need a huge drive?
Once I have the HD, how do I format it for Mac & Windows XP separately? I know I have to partition it, but after that....what?
Next, is it possible to use Time Machine for both drives? Or will I only be able to use it for the Mac drive and manually backup XP?
After reading some other posts, I'm wondering if it's wise to update to 10.5.5. Any advice on this?
    Any help/suggestions would be great--thanks!

TM will not backup a Windows partition. If you create a disk image drive with VM Fusion TM will back it up, but only the entire image file.
If you partition an external drive using GUID, then you can format one of the partitions FAT32 to use with Windows, but TM will not backup that partition nor backup anything on your main drive to that partition.
A TM backup drive or partition should be at least twice the capacity of the capacity of the drive you are backing up. If your iMac drive is 500 GBs then your backup drive's capacity should be roughly twice that size (less the space you have allocated as the Boot Camp partition.)
There's no reason not to update to 10.5.5, but if you prefer not to that's your choice. It isn't necessary although if you are going to use TM it would be wise to update because several TM bugs have been fixed by the 10.5.5 update.

    New #AJAVideo Mac & Windows Plug-Ins for @Adobe #CS6 now available! Read more http://bit.ly/IfTKL9 download http://bit.ly/JcwWfx

    First off - yay.
In the little amount of time I have had to test, the first thing I notice is that the video out to my ext. monitor seems to lag by a few frames from the program monitor in Pr.  AJA support is great in their help, but I'm wondering before I bother them, is anyone else seeing this - is there a setting to be tweaked?
Also, the video out is looking a touch soft to me - I have a Flanders Scientific Grade 1 monitor, so it is not the hardware.  I may need to test this a bit more with other footage, but it was my first impression.  Wonder if the settings here need to be tweaked as well.
I had visions that Transmit would output the hoverscrub, but it looks like you have to click on the clip and play back before it is displayed exernally.  But, on second thought, I don't know how that would be utilized, since the video out would have to suddenly switch every time you hover your mouse over the clips in the bins.
Having said all that, I am thrilled to finally have this driver!

  • Slideshows which work for Mac, Windows AND ipads/iphones???

    Hi.
My first post here & just getting into mac after many decades of windows!!
After much searching around I have finally found a place (Yola) where I can design a website which is compatible with all browsers/mac/windows..hurray.
However, due to the type of work that I do I need to display 50 photos (before/after). I want to do this with a slideshow. I have made up around 8 from different sites but each time there's a compatibility problem with ipads or iphones (but no problem with mac/windows/nokia smartphone).
Is there a slideshow (FREE) which will work across all platforms? Is iphoto the only way - and will that work with windows and is there a free version.
Finally, the website design software uses 'widgets' to place code into the site for photos/slideshows etc etc.
Any help would really be appreciated!
    David
PS Hope to be getting an ipad soon.

come on guys, someone here must play some games on their intel mac?
please help me make my mind up

  • How do you edit the 'About this mac' window?

    Hi,
I need to edit the about this mac window - pictured here to remind you of what exactly it is ( http://www.pluggedinmac.com/Picture%201.jpg )- in order to further my understanding of how this aspect of Macintosh works.
I will be extremely greatful of all replies
    Thanks
    James

You'll need to be a bit more specific about what you mean by "edit".
If you want to edit the actual .nib file (the archive which describes the window), it's at
    /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Ab outThisMac.nib
Nib files can normally be edited by using the Interface Builder application that's part of the Xcode developer tools.
However, since you're on an Intel-based Mac, you won't be able to edit the nib unless you first find a version from a Power PC Mac. The reason for this is that .nib files aren't actually a file, but a package that includes different parts inside the primary folder. For example, if you Control-click on the AboutThisMac.nib mentioned above, and choose Show Package Contents, a new Finder window will open which shows a single item "keyedobjects.nib". That is an actual file which holds the archived user interface objects (using key/value coding/archiving, hence the "keyed" in the name). To be able to open and edit a .nib file in Interface Builder, however, you need two additional files inside named "classes.nib" and "info.nib". These provide Interface Builder with the information necessary to properly open the nib. By removing those two files from the nib, a developer can essentially make the nib "read-only", meaning it will work fine when the application it's a part of needs to use it, but an end-user (or their competition) cannot open the nib file in Interface Builder to see how the objects were constructed. Most nibs that are part of an OS X install on PowerPC-based Macs include the necessary files and can be opened in Interface Builder. Most of the nibs included with Intel-based Macs, on the other hand, do not include those files and can't be opened in Interface Builder without first copying the "classes.nib" and "info.nib" files from a PowerPC-based Mac's nib to the Intel version of the nib.
    Hope this helps....

  • Why is "more info" greyed out in the About This Mac window?

RE:  MacBook Air running OS X 10.6.8
The More Info... is greyed out in the About This Mac window... how can I ungrey it to get info?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • HT1750 What about TWO different numbers in MacOs (about this mac window) and on the bottom of the foot of the iMac ???

What about TWO different serial numbers in macOs (about this mac window) and on the foot of the mac. This mac was not purchased as a refurbished nor has been sent for servicing on any time since purchasing...
The one in MacOs is answering : "This is not a valid Apple Product serial number" when i try to check the iMac 1TB Seagate Hard Drive Replacement Program...

You will need to check with Apple - might be a good idea to take it to a Genius Bar so they can see it for themselves (and the diagnosis is free).

  • ZFS server as primary storage for Mac/Windows?

I want to use ZFS for most of my storage, accessible from Mac / Windows / Solaris / Linux / etc. Basically replacing most local SATA / USB / IDE drives with an array of SATA drives on a ZFS server. Low-latency is important.
    Is this reasonable / possible?
I currently have gigabit ethernet, but am afraid the performance would be too low. I'm hoping to improve the interconnect using an existing PCI Express x1 slot for the Windows machine, as all the other slots are full, but haven't found any likely-looking cards.
Yes, I'm a newbie to such things. Use small words.

While possible, the issue resides with solaris itself, not ZFS. ZFS is easy to use and learn. In a few hours you can master it...
But if you want to network it to be accessible by windows you need to set up samba on solaris so that it can be accessed by windows... well on a scale of 1-10 the difficulty is 70.
Oh, and don't forget setting up permissions...
    Difficulty level:
    Solaris = 70/10
    Linux = 10/10
    Windows = 1/10
Now if you have a couple of weeks to dedicate then go for it. But I wouldn't go in expecting to "learn it on the weekend". Not even a 10 hours a day spent learning it weekend. Learn solaris first, THEN buy the hardware and build a server (if you get to that point).

  • I have bought a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB drive, first time I have selected Mac Windows option which excludes Time Machine to work on it, but now I want to go back and select Only Mac option to activate my Time Machine application. I request you to help me

I have bought a Seagate Backup Plus 1TB drive, first time during plug-in, I have selected Mac Windows option which excludes Time Machine to work on it, but now I want to go back and select Only Mac option to activate my Time Machine application.
I request you to help me with the procedure of the same?

IMPORTANT - This will reformat your Seagate drive and hence wipe it.  If there is anything on your Seagate drive you want to keep, save it somewhere else FIRST.
    Plug the drive in.
In Finder select Applications > Utilities > Disc Utilities.
Select the external drive, select Partition option, give it a name (I call mine Mac Backup), select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the Format and under the drop down menu "Partition Layout" select the number of partitions you want (so if you want the drive to just be for Time Machine, select 1 Partition, if you want part of the drive to be for Time Machine and the rest for something else, select 2 partitions and so on).  Click apply and the Disc Utility will partition and reformat your drive ready to use.
When this is complete, open Time Machine in System Preferences. Use  Select Disc to select the drive (or if you have multiple partitions, the partition of the drive) you want and you are good to go.
This may be a long way round, but it gives you the option to partition your disc which you may want.
