Mac won't boot after I pressed the power button for it to sleep

Ok so, I decided to take a break and instead of turning off my PC, I put it on sleep by pressing the power button...and screen obviously goes black.
After an hour and a half I decided to return to my PC...and on pressing the power button it won't boot (nothing: no sound or sign of life).
Thought it may be due to the battery, however seems like it's fully charged as when I connect my adapter to it, the led light is green....
What am I going to do???? And I don't download or watch films or anything of the sort!!!!!!

Three beeps at startup almost always indicate bad RAM. You probably need to get your RAM replaced. Bring it in to Apple for a definitive diagnosis if you are unable to run the Apple HardwareTest

  • Shutting the Macbook by pressing the power button for long

how bad is it for your MacBook Pro to shut it down by pressing the power button for a few seconds rather than by choosing Shut down?

If ever I have to "force" a shutdown in this fashion then I immediately boot up from an external drive or DVd and run either Disk Utility or Disk Warrior to repair the drive's directories, shroudlupe.
It regularly pops up some kind of error after such events, sometimes quite serious ones. It can also corrupt permissions in some circumstances, too, if software which modifies them "on the run' and then sets them back again happens to be in use at the time, so you should do a permissions repair on the next boot, too. The actual nature of problems generated will depend on what was running at the time, what OS background processes were underway, etc etc. It is not really predictable. Doing it once at the wrong time can have serious consequences, while on other occasions you may come away scot free.
Although the impact may not be quite so great since "journalling' was introduced on Macs, I suspect that many of the problems that we see when people update their OS's etc, as well other general operating problems, occur because directories etc haven't been repaired by the user after such events at some time in the past.
At the very least I'd suggest you use a 'Safe Boot" after any such event, and then restart normally. See http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417 for some alternative approaches to repairing the damage that it is likely to cause.
Are you having trouble shutting down normally, or are you just looking to save time?
    Cheers

Try here.  iPhone and iPod touch: Frozen and unresponsive

    Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

My ipad 2 just went off. It was working perfectly while charging. I have pressed the power button for ten seconds and it's still not coming on. What do I do?

First, confirm that the iPad is charged and then try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • My MacBook Pro 13in Mid-2010 won't start unless I hold the power button for about 10 seconds! Help Please!

    Hello.
    I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch (mid-2010):
Processor: 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4GB 1067 Mhz DDR3
    Running Mac OS X 10.7.2
Yesterday I opened my computer (was sleeping as usual) and the screen just flasehed white and the computer powered off. The magnetic electricity thingy was connected and was green, so it was fully charged, and connected to the electricity.
Since it powered off, I tried turning it on again, and again, one second after starting to boot up, screen flashed white and the computer powered off.
I read somewhere I should hold down the power button longer, so I did, and it booted up. That's why I am able to write this. But every time I turn it off or put it to sleep, it does the same thing when I boot up.
If I don't hold the power button for 10 seconds or so, the computer won't work.
Then today, I did a backup of my entie hard drive, just in case. Later, I started using Excel, and about 1 hour after I was on it, suddenly it got really slow. Like I would click on a program like Safari, and it would take over 30-45 secs to start and be ready. And my computer is usually really fast!
I went on the Internet again, started in safe mode, boot up with option+command+P+R to reset PRAM, and nothing worked. Then suddenly on one turn-off/turn-on (since I can't restart because the computer only starts if I hold the power button for 10 seconds), again it is working at normal speed.
What can this be? Any ideas?
I really appreciate your time and help in advance
    Gaby

I forgot to say I had already tried that as well. Just in case, I just tried it again and there was no change :S
Are you running the Apple-supplied RAM? Have you run Apple Hardware Test? I don't know what else you've tried, but this may be time to do a fresh install of Lion if you have not done so since installing Lion.

    Hey terremo,
Thanks for the question. From the information you provided, it sounds like the iMac is successfully turning on, however video is not displayed. These symptoms can usually be isolated further by the troubleshooting steps in this article:

Looks like a RAM failure or maybe another hardware failure.
Can you take out the battery and with the charger connected start up? Same failure?
Have you tried the SMC reset and PRAM reset? do both twice.

  • My iPod unexpectedly stopped working. It won't turn on even after pressing the power button for 1 minute. My iTunes no longer "recognizes" the iPod and is forcing me to restore it but I'm not sure if that will work! HELP!!!!!!

Thank you and please respond as fast as possible -----

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Mac won't boot after prohibited symbol

I'd like to thank in advance anyone that will bother reading this. My guess is there is something wrong with the logic board...
I believe my macbook is the early 2011 13" model. kitted with the i7.
Here is a sequence of maybe relevant, maybe not, events that happened before the issue:
1- I run bootcamp quite often
2- I had been running my macbook on clamshell mode for about 2 weeks, connected to an external screen and keyboard&mouse
3- I installed a large amount of plugins for pro tools (10-15Gb worth) the day of the incident.
4- The last time i shut down the computer, i changed the boot disk to mac OSX, under the bootcamp menu in Windows' control panel.
5- When I booted up the next day the boot was going fine until the prohibited symbol appeared, replacing the apple logo.
5.1- After some time, the screen went light-blue (the snow leopard color thing) and the computer suspended itself. (it usually does that when i run it in clamshell mode, right after it finished booting, presumably because the lid is closed)
5.2- The computer was unresponsive to mouse and keyboard input, so i unplugged it and opened the lid.
5.3- It went to desktop, but rather than a mouse, i had a static colored wheel (which i could move). The dock didn't come up, and everything was frozen.
6- I long-pressed the power button to shut it down.
7- When turning it back on, all i can hear is that growly sound from the optical drive/hard drive (not really sure tbh), and the screen doesn't turn on. I can also hear the fans running, and the CPU area heats up.
On a sidenote, i don't hear the traditional apple chime ever since i had HDD data corruption problems and had to run system recovery into a more recent OS. After which i reinstalled a snow leopard (10.6.8) via a system backup i had, which dated from 2011 (and that was this year).
So, is there a magical key combination that will resuscitate my mac? Does this look like a 500€ fix on the logic board?
    Thanks for reading!

Also, i don't hear any hard drive read/write activity, so i'm not quite sure if it's spinning.
