Mac won't boot, Grey bar appearing at the bottom of Apple Logo then shuts down

Hi,
I'm using a Late-2011 Macbook Pro and it is running on OS X Mavericks. One day, my laptop just shut itself down and when I turn it on, it won't boot. It just gives me a grey progress bar under the apple logo then shuts down. I tried accessing the DU and tried verifying and repairing the disk but I am unable to copy my files to another drive. It gives me an input/output error. I am not very tech savvy and I badly need my files. Please help!

The chime is generated in software when your Mac passes the Power-On Self Test. If a suitable source of software can be found, booting is likely.
The dark gray Apple is not resident in any ROM. It can appear only after it is loaded from a boot device.
Your Mac will shut down during boot-up if the Boot Drive is so damaged that it cannot be mounted.
So focus your energy on repairing your Boot Drive using Recovery_HD or the 10.6 DVD, as appropriate.

My mac won't recognize an external monitor. The screen Goes Blue Once, then goes blue again and the second monitor just turns off. I am using an HDMI adapter to a visio TV. I also have my xbox on the tv. Can anyone Help??

Lol, figured out the first part. Just for those who may be searching, when you click on the Display Preferences, and click on the arraingment tab... it not only shows where your two screens will be displayed, but the WHITE BAR at the top of one screen is the dock/toolbar. Click and hold to grab this and just slide it over to the screen you'd like it to be on.
You have to release it IN the screen box, not on top of it... and it should pop right over to the new (or old) screen. At any rate, you can put the dock on either (or any) screen that you prefer.
I am thinking of ordering more of these. Lol. 3 monitor setup seems like it would be crazy good.
Still looking for the answer to keeping the new 16" screen on the right without switching between screen #s with that... not expose... Lion feature.

Blank bar appears at the bottom of the screen on startup.

When I start firefox, a blank bar appears at the bottom of the screen. The bar does not go away until I open and close the add-on bar (Ctrl + / twice). How am I able to make this bar not appear at start up?

I need help before i go to the apple store for help.
My problem is that I have an Ipod touch which it was working fine but now it will not boot all the way.
It will not show the red bar when is ready to be turn off or reboot when using both buttons to reset it it will only come to the apple logo then goes blank.
I tried to restore via Itunes but same result, it will start showing is doing the extract then it will go blank and get a message saying that It can not find the device.
What do i need to do.

PS. The OS I am not sure do not remember exactly.

- Reboot the computer
- Try another USB port
- Try another cable try another cable
- Inspect the dock connector for bend or missing contacts, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

A black bar appeared at the bottom of the new window after I drag a tab out.

this is actually an issue back in the mavericks safari, but the problem was somehow solvable and was not appearing every time.
after upgrading to Yosemite, this problem appears every time.
The problem is : when I have several tabs, then I drag a tab out, which you can see the minimized window.
After you release it, it will become a new window as expected and intended. BUT there will be a black bar underneath.
In the Youtube website, you can see that the upper part of the site is actually being blocked by the toolbar.
( I had waited for several seconds to let the toolbar to get to its original position )
Clearly the black bar at the bottom caused this problem.
It's a very annoying issue.
I am not sure if it's a problem of Yosemite or Safari. But back in to mavericks, the problem also existed.
Is there anyone out there having the same problem?
How to Fix it ?
P.S.1 HOWEVER, if i right-clicked the tab and select "move tab to a new window", the problem DOES NOT exist.
P.S.2 I am using Mac Book Air(13", Mid 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

In the App store window at the top click on Purchases. Your download progress is there. If the progress seems to have stalled, click on the pause button and then restart the download. It should pick up where it left off.

I cannot start up my macbook pro past the logo with the loading sign.. the bar appears at the bottom and then goes away but it just loads forever??

Turned on my macbook pro and it just didn't make that welcoming noise and the sign the apple logo came with the loading sign and that's all it does. I tried command option P and R and then the welcoming sound came but it does the same thing. I've also tried shift s and pressing reboot and return...but still no thing..helppp

Your post only says iMac. We need to know what version of OSX you are running.
Did your computer come with Installation disks? If so, place the DVD in the DVD drive and reboot the computer while holding down "C" until the comuter boots.
Run Disk Utility on your hard drive and post back any messages you receive.

Mac won't start grey screen appearing

My power mac g5 that is running leopard wont boot up.
Everytime I try to start it, shows a grey screen telling me to restart the computer (appearing in english, french, spanish, and chineese i think). I accidentaly deleted a folder on the root menu of the HDD entitled "usr". How can i fix this.

I tried this but it didn't work. I think it is my keyboard because even when I turn the computer on the green led on the caps lock button doesn't light up. I even tried a regular USB keyboard and I had the same result.
I guess I will have to find my leopard CD.
Is it possible to just restore system settings from the leopard cd so that I don't lose all my data?

When I go to new pages, a bar appears at the bottom of the screen letting me know McAfee thinks the site is safe. I have to close it manually. I have tried un-checking add on under tool bars, but that doesn't stop it. How can make it stop?

This has begun since I upgraded to Firefox 4.

There is a problem with the McAfee Site Advisor that causes the add-ons bar to constantly re-appear. Until McAfee fix their add-on the solution is to disable or uninstall the McAfee Site Advisor.

You mention that your iPad mini is stuck at the Apple logo after it shut down. If you haven't already, try resetting it again:
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

If the iPad still doesn't start up past the Apple logo, try this method to reinstall iOS:
If your device gets stuck during startup

Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

Mac won't boot after leopard install

hi - installed leopard on my imac but now my mac won't boot:
i have already tried the following:
1) safe mode - but won't boot
2) single user mode - ran fsck - said no issues
3) did target mode with firewire cbale to my macbook and ran disk utility - no repairs needed - and i can see all my files on original computer
4) reinstalled leopard from holding down options key - leopard installed again
but for all of abv - when i reboot i still get white apple logo screen and the spinning wheel...
any other way to get into safe mode - as that is only thing i have not been able to start....

tigerswim, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Did you already have Tiger installed or did you have Panther 10.3 installed? Tiger is not a free upgrade; you have to buy it & then update (for free) using the download updates from Apple. Also, you have to use a universal/retail install DVD (or CDs) to install Tiger. You cannot use the install DVD from another model Mac.

Progress bar at gray screen, then shuts down

Hello. I work in a private high school and a staff member handed me his MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012). He says that in the process of doing updates (he was non-specific about what it was updating), he shut the display and now it won't ever fully boot. This is what I observe: Connect power adapter to it, confirm laptop is fully charged, press power button. At the initial gray screen, the black apple shows and a black progress bar appears at the bottom (not the spinning gear), which gets part-way through and then promptly shuts down. Sometimes it gets through the progress bar and the spinning gear for a few seconds before it shuts down.
I've booted to the Recovery Partition and run Disk Utility on the physical volume... and the physical hard drive appears to be fine. Since I've left my external USB drive with Maverick's installed, I'll have to wait until tomorrow to attempt cloning the drive and/or pulling off a copy of the user accounts. Once I get a copy complete, I may try a full restore, but...
In the meanwhile, does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this problem?
I have seen several other related threads in these forums, but most suggest that it may be a physically damaged hard drive, which isn't appearing to be the case here (at least not yet). Another post suggested that it may be a video issue, but it boots fine into the Recovery Partition. Do you think it's possible that one of the updates was a firmware update that never got properly installed due to his shutting the display-lid? Another post suggested trying to boot in Safe Mode, but that also fails similarly.
I'm open to ideas and suggestions.

TS1702 chat heads not working on the facebook app and whenever I log out of it the layout changes and the bar goes to the bottom

I updated the facebook app today and the chat heads are not working and also whenever the app crashes or I log out the layout completely changes and a bar appears at the bottom of the screen instead of the sidebar. This is really annoying.
