Mac won't connect to the web without using a vpn...

I know...it doesn't make sense. I have been buying and using a vpn service, IPVanish, for 3 months now and I have always just had it turned on. But now I no longer use it because of payment issues and it not being that great and since then my computer can't connect to the internet without using some sort of vpn. I can use skype, my email, steam, really anything except my web browser. I go to start it up w/o being connected to a vpn and it wont load a webpage. Does anyone know what to do...if so please help!!

Back up all data.
From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If any proxy options are selected, make a note of them and then deselect them. You don’t need to change the bypass or FTP settings. Click OK and then Apply. Test. The result may be that you can't connect to any web server. Restore the previous settings if that happens.

  • Firefox was working on my new iMac but then, after switching on recently, won't connect to the web – whereas Safari has no problem.

    ===
    Hi
I bought an iMac a week ago and installed Firefox via Safari. It worked fine for a while but, after a recently switching on, it won't connect to the web whereas Safari has no problems.
I've tried following the Firefox Help, looking into the iMac firewall, but still no luck.
I've no idea whether related or not but yesterday I had a system glitch where the iMac stated no wi-fi was installed and only connected via a physical lead to my house router. Also, there was no sound output via Safari. However, after booting up today all seems well – apart from Firefox still not working. It loads the start page but can't access the web.
I have Little Snitch running, and wonder if that's the culprit... but it's working fine with Safari, seemingly.
(Finally, how do I stop a dialogue box appearing on start-up saying that "To open “X” you need a Java runtime. Would you like to install one now?)
    Any ideas anyone?
    Cheers

On the wireless networks that your Mac has had trouble connecting to, do you know which Wireless Security type (WEP, WPA, or WPA2) is being used?
If it is WEP, one of the problems is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.   In order to make things easier, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling the use of simple easy to remember WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys. The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a non-Apple client and vice versa.   You may find the following Apple Support article helpful.

  • My mac won't connect to the router.

I am very new to macs and recently bought a Macbook pro, I have connected to my router a D-Link, DSL-G604T but when I enable WEP security the mac won't connect only my PC's will. I am prompted by the mac to put in my Encryption key but it still doesn't work. I am able to to set the router to WPA-PSK but get stuck on the length of the string that I am supposed to put in? Will this set up work better?? Very stuck mac virgin, pleas help.

First, I strongly suggest that you use WPA or WPA2 instead of WEP for your wireless encryption...but if you must use WEP & work in a mixed (PC/Mac) environment...
Always use Hex characters for WEP encryption. Either 10 Hex characters (for 40-bit WEP) or 26 Hex characters (for 128-bit WEP)
If you use an ASCII password or passphrase, then use either 5 ASCII characters (for 40-bit WEP) or 13 ASCII characters (for 128-bit WEP)
Note: Because manufacturers may use different algorithms to translate between ASCII & Hex, that this doesn’t always work, and is one of the leading causes of issues with keys.

  • My Mac won't connect to the wireless internet

My MacBook won't connect to the internet. Yet my phone and iPad will. I have tried turing the laptop on and off. Shutting the airport on and off and turning the Bluetooth on and off. And it still won't connect.

Thanks for that.  Would this affect App store and iTunes though? Neither of them are working.
(iTunes store/match... just sit there spinning... Sophos is currently updating itself...)

  • My MAC won't connect to the internet anymore. I have ran the Diagnostic check and other computers are able to connect but my MAC no longer will. Please help.

Please tell me what I need to do to fix this problem. It was working fine yesterday and now today that is not the case. Thank you.

I had the same issue! My 24"  2008 iMac was working perfectly. Yesterday I used my BootCamp partition and when I went back to my Mac OS I couldn't connect to the internet!
The computer looks like it's connected but it won't navigate at all! I tried to verify the network settings and when I tried to do that my System Preferences app hang-up. I had to Force quit it and reboot the computer couple of times to double check.
Then I run de Disk utility to verify the disk & permissions and the scan result was that the disk was not repairable, I had to make a timeMachine backup of my personal data and completely format my HD including the BOOTCAMP partition to reinstall MAC OS 10.6 and all the updates and everything and now Everything is working perfectly.
I first tried to only format my MAC OS partition and reinstall but there was another error that the insallation couldn't be completed. Then I completely erases all partitions and erased all the files and I was able to reinstall everything in a couple of hours.

  • Mac won't connect to the Internet after 10.8.5

    Hey,
So I updated my MacBook Pro earlier today to 10.8.5 and after the update I put it to sleep. I just got on and cannot connect to the Internet from my Mac. All my other devices can connect perfectly well. It says I am connected to my WiFi but when I go on my browser, no pages load. I've tried restarting my Mac and my router, none of which have worked.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Just switched from Qwest DSL to CableOne cable internet and now my mac won't connect to the internet.

I've spent 2 hours on the phone with CableOne and they can't figure our why my MacPro isn't connecting to the internet through their Arris modem. I can connect to my network and see all my computers... so the ethernet port is working but the internet won't connect. I've tried Safari and Firefox browsers. My PC connects using the same ethernet cord with no problems. I've also tried connecting the computer directly to the modem with no results. And the ethernet port says it's connected and gives me an ip address. I'm out of ideas at this point. Any suggestions?

  • Mac won't connect to ftp server for iweb

my mac won't connect  to the ftp server. i have been
trying to publish a site on iweb

Well, do you actually have a web host server to be able to connect to in the first place.  You need this before you can publish a website from iWeb in that way.
Also, you don't publish a site on iWeb.  You use iWeb to design your website and then publish from iWeb to your web host/server.
What version of iWeb are you using?
More info generally would be useful.

  • IP IVR 8.0 connecting on the Web Service.

    Hi Everybody,
I am trying to connect on the Web Service using Java Classes by JAX-WS and I am having some problems.
Using NetBeans 7.0 I created a Java application project and I am connecting on the Web service successfully, and I am receiving the Web Service' returns normally.
Through of NetBeans some classes were created automatically (these classes are "talking" with the Web Service). I created a JAR file with the whole project and I imported it to the IP IVR using the 'Cisco Unified CCX Administration\System\Custom File Configuration'.
And now if I open the 'Cisco Unified CCX Editor' I can see all classes. I m trying to make a simple test, and it doesn't work.
I see this error: could not initialize class com.sun.org.apache.xml.internal.resolver.CatalogManager; nested exception is:
                        java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class com.sun.org.xml.internal.resolver.CatalogManager(line: 1, col: 1).
    1) Has anybody already connected on the Web Service using Java Classes through the IP IVR?
    2) Does anybody know this error?
Note: Through the NetBeans I tried to import this class (com.sun.org.apache.xml.internal.resolver.CatalogManager) to the project, but I see another error when I am compiling the project:
error: package com.sun.org.apache.xml.internal.resolver does not exist
    import com.sun.org.apache.xml.internal.resolver.*;
Does anybody can help me, please?

    Hi everyone,
"This Linux is boring" - well, you made my day It's amazing to see people making such qualified remarks without even trying to dig deeper scratch the surface.
Well, Sir, I must inform you it's not the limitation of the platform, it's your attitude. Creating a SOAP client is rather easy for anyone who knows some XML and HTTP - that's basically SOAP is about. IP IVR (all versions, starting 4.0x) knows both XML and HTTP perfectly, out of the box, without the need of programming in Java, let alone, playing around with some wizards in Netbeans.
To do a SOAP request: first, create an XML, just a plain old XML that is expected by the SOAP server. No need to be shy, populate all the attributes and text nodes, with some meaningful stuff. Upload this XML on to the IP IVR. In your CRS script, do the XSL transformation. Or you know what, just do some text replacement. Take the output. Do a HTTP post. Read the result. Grab the necessary info using an XPATH expression.
This is not that hard, isn't it?

  • E1000 won't connect to Cisco Connect or the Web based set up

My router is working fine but I cannot connect to Cisco Connect or the web based advanced features now. I know I broke the cardinal rule by using advanced set up so that explains why Cisco connect won't work. But I can't figure out why I can't connect to the advanced web based utility now. Who made the decision to put some features in cisco connect but not include those features in advanced settings? And then if you use advanced settings cisco connect no longer works. This is such a turn off I'm actually thinking about returning the thing to Best Buy. That's like saying "if you open the hood of your car and touch anything parts of your car will no longer function". I call support and they repeat what they read on paper "reset the router and start over and don't use advanced settings". What a pain in the &^%$.

I've reinstalled the router again and just switched the ssid and password where it was before so all the devices in our home can connect. I first shut down the guest account using Cisco Connect (which is the only place you can control the guest account) and now I just use the advanced settings. So of course Cisco connect no longer works. I've got a strong signal all over our home. No disconnection issues at all. But this software design that puts some features in one part and other features in advanced and then shuts down cisco connect if you use advanced is insane. If I knew cisco was planning a firmware upgrade to give the advanced mode everything cisco connect has and more then I'd keep this thing. For the life of me I cannot understand why any software engineer would come up with such a design as this. And quite honestly I tried to play by their goofy rules of not using advanced settings and cisco connect died after about 4 uses. Never would connect again. Just said call support (in India) and after telling your life's story to someone simply being told to hit the reset button, power off and start the process all over again. If anyone at Cisco reads this stuff I think I have a legitimate complaint. Why on earth would you put features in Cisco Connect that aren't in advanced and why would you stop running Cisco connect just because I hard coded some mac addresses in advanced mode? I would love to know the logic behine such a crazy implementation of software.
