Mac won't re-start after going to sleep
Since installing a new version of FaxstfPro (version 10.7), my MAC won't re-start after going to sleep. I have to re-boot to get the system started again.
Thanks for any ideas on how to re-store the sleep fucntion.
Thanks for the excellent tip. From reading the bluetooth advisories, I realized that my D-link was incorrectly installed in a UBS hub. Moving it to a direct UBS port resolved the problem.
During the trouble shooting process, I found that I do not have a Bluetooth setup assistant. I have recently installed OS X 10.4.6 and also applied the Bluetooth firmware update, but I can not find the Bluetooth setup assistant in Utilites, and a search via Finder didn't locate it either. And I can't find the software in the .Mac downloads.
Any suggestions on how to restore the assistant?

ThinkPad T420i won't wake up after going to sleep.
My T420i won't wake up after going to sleep (using Fn F4 or close the laptop or time out). The computer was wiped clean and reinstalled with only Windows 7 professional and some Levono softwares. BIOS, windows and all drivers are up to date. The only way to get it back is hold the power button to reboot it. When it reboots, i get improperly windows shut down error.
I'd guess it's ACPI related issue. Check out ACPI driver and correspondent items in Control panel.
Energy report might be helpful too ("powercfg -energy" command within console window with administrator rights)

Power Mac G4 loses internet connection after going to sleep
Run down of computer: I have a Power Mac G4 tower, PANTHER OSX. I have wireless internet through our cable company—I use a wireless router. When I am connected to the internet, and browsing the web or something, if I let the computer go to sleep, it loses connection. I have to go back up to the little signal icon and reconnect to my wireless network.
I suspected it might be a setting through the router, but when my computer was comletely unplugged, and absent from the apartment, the other computer (G5 imac–TIGER) which was having the same problem, suddenly was staying connected even after going to sleep. When my computer came back home and was hooked back up, suddenly the other computer had the same problem again. So, I concluded that my G4 tower was the culprit, and perhaps not the router. We share a wirless network, so it's not surprising that this is the case.
I know there must be a setting somewhere in preferences or something that is telling the computer to disconnect from network when computer sleeps. I have looked everywhere, and can not figure it out.
It's really annoying to have to reconnect each time I use my computer. And just to reiterate, I get internet through a cable modem using my airport card, so please answer the question with this in mind as settings are totally different from dial-up. I do not use PPP.
Anyone experience this problem? Or know how to help?

This one's really a pickle! Even the Mac specialist at my office was baffled! He suggested shortening the name of my computer...(Jamie Cendroski's computer)...I didn't really understand how this had anything to do with it...but he's supposed to be the expert. He also suggested trashing my keychains and making new ones. I messed around with them, but I don't know enough about this stuff to be bold enough to trash them yet. I'll do a little more research before I do so. I think he might be onto something with the keychains though..? -

Mac os x unexpectedly quit after going to sleep
Running Mac OS X 10.5.8, the main software changes have been installing new software for a Netgear Wireless Router, and deleting two programs, Cisco Clean Access Client for a network I no longer will use, and the MotoCast app for the Android phone.

I uninstalled Covenant Eyes thinking that would solve the problem, and was having varying luck with getting the computer to wake up from sleeping, but now it is crashing again when trying to wake from sleep. The wake it has the most trouble with is when it goes to sleep due to being idle, and less so from putting it to sleep or closing the lid. The following is the report I got:

New Macbook air screen won't wake up after going to sleep - what's this?
When watching a movie on Netflix, for example, since I'm not touching the keyboard, the computer goes to sleep - sort of. The screen fades briefly and if I fail to notice quickly enough to touch a key, the screen goes black. The sound continues, however, and the keyboard is lit. I can't wake the screen back up. I have to restart it.
I've had the computer for less than a week.
What's going on - is my new MacBook Air defective or is there something I can do to stop this annoying glitch from occurring?There is no need to diagnose such an issue, you just bought it and paid for service and 14 day exchange.
Return it for another unit, others here will concur on that fact. -
My iMac won t wake up after going to sleep
Ok, here s my problem. When the computer goes to sleep, later I press a key, the monitor stays black, the fans spin up a bit, and then I have to pull the power plug cause nothing can wake it up...
what to do?I'd like to post a reply in this forum because I've had a similar issue and I'd like to see what could come of a little discussion. This iMac is 2 weeks old, I purchased a 1 GB RAM chip (from Omni Technologies through Ramseeker.com) to upgrade from 512 stock. The RAM installed with no problems and I have to say; this is the easiest upgrade I have ever made, Apple's design for opening the computer is truly supreme.
So I read about 128bit vs 64bit data paths and got greedy for power realizing that my RAM was not matched. So I contacted Omni and ordered 2 matched 1GB chips and planned to return the 1GB chip I had previously purchased. Again, the RAM installed with no problems, but this time my computer would not wake from sleep no matter what. Exactly as Tomi K. describes; blinking light goes off, fan spins up, but the screen stays blank. Hardware tests and applications work fine, but the computer will not wake from sleep. I have been all over these discussions, resetting, unplugging, and trying different combinations of RAM etc. The only thing that works is the original combination of 1.5GB of RAM, which completely solves the problem. I'm baffled and I am curious... could this sleep issue really be related to the RAM even though everything else works and tests fine? Should I try to get another kit of RAM and see if that works? Any feedback would be appreciated. -
Mac won't boot, starts with white apple screen and spinning wheel. Also has grey loading bar which disappears after loaded then stays at white apple screen.

My new Mac Air continues to disconnect from WiFi after going to sleep. When waking it up I have to manually re-connect. How do I keep it connected?
I had this problem too and solved it by doing a clean install. After that it was gone.
This is a drastic method since it takes quite some time to reinstall lion and all your software.
Thoughts I had why it started working after a clean install are the following:
It looked like the airport wasn't able to reconnect fast enough before the connection timed out. So what could have prevented my mac from being able to connect fast enough?
Apps that consume processor cycles. I love what I would call 'System Enhancers', little apps that enhance my workflow (Moom, Alfred, Dropbox, Default Folder etc). I'm not saying that these are the problem, they might be programmed processor friendly, but check if you have apps that consume processor cylcles. It might prevent airport from being able to reconnect quickly enough before it times out.
Mobile Config profiles. Another thought I had was that I had a mobile config 802.1X profile installed for the company were I worked. It used TTLS to connect to the corporate network. This profile might have gotten in the way.
And a sidenote...
Routers with hardware acceleration might also be a problem. My router is a Wireless Gigabit Router 300N WL-351 and has hardware acceleration. As soon as I activate that my wifi connection keeps dropping. It is as if a Macbook Air can't handle that amount of optimisation.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

To use fsck, you must run it from the command line. Unlike using your mouse to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. The Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and single-user mode are two examples of command-line interfaces in which you can type such commands. To use fsck:
1. Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line. Hold CMD+s keys down at bootup.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
2. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
(SPACE between fsck AND -fy important)
3. Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:
The volume (name_of_volume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****
Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
4. When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return. -
What do you do if your iphone 3gs displays a thether picture to itunes? It won't change and after going to the manual and following directions, I find it is an error 1002. What does this mean?
Error 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Also attempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. Doesn't eject discs or discs eject slowly
If the drive ejects discs slowly or appears to be struggling, insert and eject a single disc several times. Check the disc to see if it has a label or other material stuck to the disc that increases the thickness. Remove the label if possible.
If the disc will not eject, try pressing the eject key on the keyboard. Some older keyboards may use the F12 key to eject discs.
If the disc will not eject, try dragging the disc icon to the trash.
If the disc will still not eject, try holding down the trackpad or mouse button after restarting the computer. The Superdrive should attempt to eject the disc.
If the disc continues not to eject, reset the System Management Controller (SMC) and try steps 1-4 again.
If the disc still does not eject, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional assistance.

My Mac won't fully start up.. I push the power button, the apple sign pops up and the loading circle and then a bar loading and as soon as the bar is done loading the computer cuts off again. It's like it attempts to start up like it's updating something and then after the bar is full, it shuts off. Please help

I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:

In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.
