Mac won't "see" my camera

Hi,
When I plug my Nikon camera into my Macbook, nothing happens. No icon on the desktop or anything. I have loaded the Nikon Transfer CD and just downloaded an update. But still, nothing. I emailed Nikon's tech support many days ago but they are very slow to help.
Please does anyone have any ideas?
Someone did tell me that I should try a card reader, but I am about to go travelling for a few weeks and don't want to have to carry more stuff. However, it would be nice to download my photos.
All other USB devices (memory sticks, external hard drives, printer, iPod etc) work absolutely fine. But the Mac doesn't seem to "see" my camera when I connect it.
Thank you.

Great. Image capture worked. Thank you. However, (1) is it okay that I just switched off the camera and then unplugged it? (there was no icon to drag into the bin to eject), (2) now I have an annoying little window that I can’t close telling me “no image capture device connected”.
Not sure how I change the default from whatever it is now to Nikon? Maybe that would make a difference. But it’s strange that the Nikon software doesn’t work.
Thanks everyone

  • Canon 7D-Mac won't see it

Oops, I posted this as a reply in another topic, so I'll do it here as a new one. My Mac won't see my Canon 7D when I plug it in. It should show up as a drive, just like my little AVCHG camera does. I have installed Canon's EOS Utility software, and it will see the camera and take in stills, but not video. So I know the cable is OK. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Had the same issue when a client brought in a HD project on a 5D MKII.
I located the movies on the 5D with iPhoto and imported them and then moved them to
my capture scratch folder. There's probably a better way but that worked for me with a tight deadline.
Have you tried Log & Transfer??

  • Mac won't see some files/folders on external hard drive that i know are there, pc sees them fine..

I have a external drive full of music, my mac won't see all of it , its like some files are hidden...  I have formatted the drive to exFAT and copied folders I knew were missing and they won't read that way either... I have as well renamed the folder to something different, but the Mac still will not see them, but my PC sees them fine... anyone??

  • Lost New iPod. Mac Won't See Old iPod.

I recently bought a new iPod and gave it a different name in iTunes. A few days ago I lost it. Now my Mac won't see my previous 4th Gen iPod. Any suggestions. Tried reset. Tried reloading iTunes.

I have a 1st or 2nd gen Ipod that uses Firewire and when I update my iTunes it shut out my ipod and now neither my G4 or G5 recognizes my ipod. I can't use the ipod reset utility because computer wont acknowledge it. I look in System Profiler and under Firewire computer knows it's there but wont bring it up on the desktop or itunes. I tried using USB but that was crap. Help

  • Computer sudden'y won't "see" digital camera.

    Here's what happened:
I uploaded a whole bunch of photos that had been on my camera for about a month. Immediately took two more pictures, but when I attempted to upload - was told that they were ".jpg" and couldn't be uploaded. Now iPhoto doesn't know the camera is connected, and Canon says that they don't support OS x.4 for the Canon Powershot A75.
I've rebooted, shut down etc. System Profiler doesn't see the connected camera. I use a hub - it's always worked before, but I did try to connect it directly.
Canon's website says they don't support Tiger. But that's not the issue, something weird happened here. I'm going to use only the PB (I have many peripherals) fix disk permissions and trash the preferences file next.
    Other ideas welcome.
    Thanks

Update: Some folks in this forum suggested getting a card reader to others is a similar predicament. So I bought one. Voila, the problem is solved. The reader cost about $20. I plugged it into my hub, put the card in and iPHoto immediately wanted to know if I planned to import the pictures.
    I highly recommend this solution.

  • External HD connected to Airport - Mac won't see it

Just bought an external HD (Lacie 2big tripple) and connected it to the airport extreme via USB.
The HD won't appear on my Mac (MacBookPro). The disk utility won't find it.
The Airport utility recognizes the HD (giving correct information about size and free space), but that's all.
When I connect the HD directly to the computer (either via FireWire or USB) everything works. The HD apears on the desktop. By the way:When I initialized the disk and copied some stuff from the computer's HD to the external one I used the wired fire wire connection.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

So, after several hours of fight I reached the follwing status:
    - have this disc now as a folder of the "shared disk" airport base station
    - - the disc utility won't recognize it
    - the time machine is not able to make new copies altough a partition was configured previously (when wired)
At least I can use the storage for my media files, but my intention is to see and use the disk in the same way as if it would be conected via wire to the computer (as in the previuos post).
So can somebody share his/her expericences with an external HD connected via the Airport Extreme?
    I mean
    - can you see it in the disk utlitility
    - can you see it in the finder as a "normal" drive as it ws connected by wire and not as a folder of a shared disk
    - can you make a partition for the time machine purposes?
    - can you see it

  • Ichat won't see isight camera

have had this probvlem in the past and solved it:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=564440&tstart=0
solution no longer works. I tried different isights, different cables. any thoughts?

    Hello Robert,
If I understand your original post correctly, you have the same symptoms using different cables and different iSights. That would seem to indicate problems within your Mac.
If my understanding is wrong, please disregard the following, post back, and let me know what I missed. However, if I have it right, consider any of the following that are relevant to your system. Try them in the order you prefer:
    (1) Check to see whether your Mac's System Profiler > Hardware > Firewire Device Tree recognizes iSight as a Firewire device. If you do not see iSight there, try the suggestions in What to do if your computer won't recognize a FireWire device.
    (2) Possible hardware or software conflicts
    (3) Mac OS X Maintenance
    (4) Try relevant suggestions in Apple's Tech Article titled iSight: How to Troubleshoot. Be sure to include the checks for whether the problem is "application-specific" and "user-specific".
If you need help creating a new user account to check whether your problem is "user-specific" during Troubleshooting, see Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Adding a new user account to your computer
    (5) Try applying the latest OS X Combo Updater as follows:
    - Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
    - Repair permissions.
    - Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update (PPC)
    - Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.

  • Mac won't recognise my camera

My Nikon D700 has become invisible to my new Mac. I managed to download some photos at first, but now Adobe Bridge (CS5) is telling me 'None detected' in the 'get photos from camera' list, & the camera is not seen by the Finder either. Can anyone advise what to do; I've never had this problem with any PC running Windows!

    Do these two resets:
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
    PRAM RESET
    Zap the PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Can't Restore because Mac won't see ipod

Ipod 2.3 was dropped several feet. (Thanks to my cat.) Could not get a menu to appear.
    1. I reset by pushing select and menu buttons. Now all a keep getting is Apple logo, OK to disconnect (Disk Mode) and file with exclamation mark.
    2. I trashed itunes and down loaded new itunes. When I went to reinstall ipod software it keeps asking me to hook up ipod. It is plugged in. I have tried both firewire ports.
Ipod keeps clicking and will do this for several minutes until very hot.
I would like to kill my cat. Any suggestions? (Regarding the ipod - not killing my cat.

  • New MBP won't see Panasonic HVX

    Hello,
I have a new MBP and a Panasonic HVX 200. When I try to connect the camera to the computer (with an adapter cable) the computer won't see the camera. It still comes up on my old iMac (via 400). Any thoughts on what the fix is?
    Thanks.
    Wolf

Wolfwill23: Sounds like a bad cable or adapter. If you're using the same 400->400 cable to connect the camera to the iMac, and adding a 400->800 adapter when connecting to the MBP, then the adapter is probably bad. If you're using a 400->400 cable with the iMac and a 400->800 cable with the MBP, then the latter cable is suspect.

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. How do I get and install the right version of Camera Raw?

Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. I was told to update Camera Raw to at least 7.2. I tried to download this but got a DNG Converter instead. Where is Camera Raw? (it does not show up in a search of my hard drive. There is a folder of camera profiles but no extension or plug-in with this name). How do I find out what version I have already? How do I get the correct version?  . . . OR . . . is it the case that Bridge will never open Sony raw files directly and I will have to do a separate conversion process every time I want to use a raw file??. Can someone explain this?
    Thanks.

  • Mac Mini - Core Solo - Won't See Any Wireless network

I have a Mac Mini, first gen Intel, Core Solo, that won't see any wireless networks. However, it will see my extreme basestation, and my two airport express devices over bonjour, which makes me think that the wireless device is working.
I've reset the PMU, with no luck.
    Any suggestions?

Does an Airport card show in the system profiler?
Is Airport switched on in your mini - the Airport icon in the menu bar should show at least grey bars rather than an empty white 'fan' shape?
With Airport on, when you click on the Airport icon, does it show any network?
If you click on 'Join Other Network' and type the name of the wifi network you run, what error message does the system give?
How far away from the wifi base station is the mini? What kind of structures and environment is it in?
If you move the mini to be in close proximity to the wifi base station, does it show any signal?
When you download a copy of AP Grapher (http://www.chimoosoft.com/apgrapher.html) and run it, what does it show for signals, noise etc?
How is the mini seeing any wifi devices via Bonjour - do you have it wired into your network? If so, the fact that the devices appear via bonjour doesn't mean they are transmitting wifi, nor that they are in range.
By the way, the Core Solo mini doesn't have a PMU to reset. If you used the PMU reset procedure it won't have helped, and may actually have caused problems. The correct procedure for an Intel-based mini is an SMC reset, as follows:
-From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
    -Wait at least 15 seconds.
-Plug the power cord back in, *making sure the power button is not being pressed* at the time.
-Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
-Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.

  • Mac Book Pro won't see my iTunes Library on an external drive

I have a brand new Mac Book Pro and my iTunes Library is on an external drive.  My computer won't see this Library even if I change the location under Preferences.  All I can see are my purchases from the iTunes Store on my iCloud.  I don't want to clutter up my MBP with my iTunes Library so what should I do?
I'm running Yosemite and latest iTunes
    Thanks for any help
    Les

Really a library, or just media?  A library is a complete collection of files an folders including the critical iTunes Library.itl file, generally all enclosed in an "iTunes" folder.  You do not direct iTunes to open a library with preferences, you do it by holding down the option/alt key while starting iTunes and guiding it to the .itl file you wish it to use.

  • My mac doesn't see my broadcast dv camera either in final cut or imovie

Trying to take video we shot on professional panasonic camera and load it on the mac using imovie or final cut express. Imovie acts like it's importing but the file is empty (no media attached). Tried to move the files to drive but the macbook pro doesn't see the camera in the finder (using firewire or usb). HELP!
Final cut express doesn't show the camera at all as a source.

    Lara,
Without specific details we can't even begin to help you.
What make/model camera shot the video? Are you trying to use the same camera to capture the video with iMovie or Final Cut Express?
Exactly what codec/settings did you use for shooting the video?  DV? HDV?  AVCHD?  1920x1080i60?  1280x720p30?  Something else?
Have you ever captured video from this camera before?  With this Mac before?
If you are using a different camera for capturing purposes, what make/model is it?
How are you connecting the camera to your Mac?  USB?  FireWire?
Cameras generally do not show up in the Finder; but if you look in System Profiler you should see it listed under Hardware > USB or > Firewire depending on how it is connected to your Mac.
What versions of OS X, iMovie and Final Cut Express are you using?
In Final Cut Express, what Easy Setup are you using?
