Mac wont load anything on power up

when i turn on my mac the screen looks very distorted, pixels all over the place all pinky blues, and can only just make out the start up apple logo,
then a dark line moves down the screen, and a box appears saying that my mac needs to be restarted, and that i can use the power button by holding it down for 7 secs (it repeats it in a few languages)
so i do this and it just says it again.
this suddenly happened when watching youtube, the screen froze and pixel colours messed up, and it wouldn't do anything.

Two things to try:
1) Boot from your original install DVD (hold c at start up) and then run Disc Utility and run both Repair Disc and Repair Permissions.
If you can't do that then
2)
Boot holding down Apple/S and don't let go until you see scrolling text.
When that stops and you see a root#: prompt enter
*fsck -fy*
Let it run through all the checks and repairs.
If it fails first time, at any time, or finds and fixes a fault - _run the command again and keep doing so_ (some fixes can take several passes) until it says "Appears to be OK" then enter
reboot

Tap Settings App > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Then in Settings make sure Cellular Data is ON. If you are in a WiFi area, relog into WiFi.

The update servers are still under pretty heavy load, so it's possible it's nothing on your end. Are you trying to do it over the air or through iTunes?

My mac wont load any applications, and barely starts

My mac is having a hard time loading anything. On start up I get a DMS load failure which usually leads to a divix uninstall but my computer won't even load the uninstall program. I can get safari to work (only apple program to work) but it will only open small sites. It will not fully load apple. I have even gone to the extent of trying to reboot my computer with the IOS program and that wont completely install. My computer will freeze but the mouse still works perfectly. It almost sounds like the hard drive stops working then starts back up. I ran a hard drive check and it tested good. Any ideas?

Safari wont load anything but Firefox works...

Hey, I recently installed loads of updates that had been back logged for a while. Ive just finished, and ive tried to use Safari but it wont open anything. Any address I type in the loading bar gets stuck and wont open. I am connected to the internet, and that is working. Firefox is working and the iTunes store, so I think somethings wrong with Safari? I have no clue what to do, so any help would be massively appreciated, Thanks, Andy

So far I/ve repaired the drive, permissions, deleted all possibly problematic apps... installed the combo update ... reset safari ... reinstalled safari ... run onyx ... and tried to install an earlier version of Safari .. but my computer won't take it ..
At least your machine received some welcomed maintenance.
Seriously though (terrible humor aside) PicLens is a great add on. Its most recent version is Leopard/Safari compatible, adding a very nice feature when searching images in Google or other cooperating services.

I press the ON button, I hear the MAC Start Up Sound, then the loading wheel appears, and a progress bar appears below, which dosnt do anything then the MAC SHUTS OFF, I've had the MAC since 2011 and this is the first problem I've had

The dark gray Apple is loaded off your Boot Device.
The thermometer bar appears when your Boot Drive will not mount, despite providing boot-up information and drivers.
Shutting off happens when the drive cannot be repaired.
So boot from Mac OS X installed on a different drive. Then you will be back in business and can Use the full power of Mac OS X to work on getting that old drive fixed up (if possible).
If you don't have a different drive, go buy one now. If this is a MacBook, buy an external case as well. It does not have to be a fast case (USB-2 will do) but the drive may be taking the place of the one inside your computer, so get a good one.

Mac wont load properly

Hi,
im a trip away meeting family for a few months so i brought my laptop with me,
anyhow i was using my imac fine turnt it off to later go on to finsh some work and for some reason or another when i load my mac the gray apple shows up with noise an then it goes to the blue screen with the loading circle an it loads it then keeps repeating non stop, iv left it on for hours.
i tryed holding shift and all it done with made the gray apple last much longer, then goes to blue screen but i get my mouse which i can move for a couple minits then loading circle comes back.
i dont know what else to do, if someone could help me i would be very grateful.

Then, if there's any data on the drive that you want to keep, you have to back up before you do anything else -- assuming it's still possible.
Basically you have three options:
1. Install a copy of the Mac OS on an external hard drive, boot from it, and copy the data from the internal drive.
2. Start the problem Mac in FireWire target mode (command-T at startup) and connect it to a working Mac with a FireWire cable. The internal drive will mount as a FireWire device.
3. Remove the internal drive and mount in an external enclosure on another Mac.
Once you've backed up, follow the sequence in the support article linked below. The article is somewhat outdated. Where it refers to booting from an installation disc, you should boot from your recovery partition (if running Lion) by holding down the key combination command-R at the chime.

i just got this cool lil blue computer from my Noonb friend who deleted random files to make room for stuff that he didn't need. he deleted Internet explorer, and alot of other things as well. i went to microsoft.com and downloaded Internet Explorer. it was a .bin file... and when in try to run the installer it says that it cannot run becasue it cant find the program which created it. This happens to all software that i try to install. All i want this computer to do is AIM and Internet Explorer or Firefox. Please help. I dont know much about the Mac OS, i am a windows guy. thanks.

Insert any Mac OS 9 CD and then use Sherlock 2 to search the CD for a file which has StuffIt in its name. If Sherlock displays StuffIt Expander as one of the results, open it and drag the .bin files onto it; you can also install StuffIt Expander onto your hard disk.

Iphone 5 wont load anything it ALL, no access , I only see the background homescreen , please help!

All of the sudden the Iphone 5 I got when it turns on it will let me only access the home screen but no apps show it all , nothing i cn do then I press the home button and It only show the option to use siri but nothing pops up it all no apps nothing I only see the homescreen picture. Please help!

EDGE loads Mail but wont send anything through Safari, Maps, Weather...

Hey guys I have had serious problems going back and forth with AT&T for the past few weeks trying to get my EDGE working. When I am at home, Wi-Fi still works awesome, but when I am out and about and not necessarily near a hotspot, I used to rely on my EDGE hook, until it up and stopped working one day. On AT&T's end, they claim that everything is set up just right with my EDGE settings for my account and phone.
Now, I can only get Safari on my iPhone to load tiny bits of data here and there - and never anything useful. EG: Loading my google.com bookmark sometimes (read: rarely) will redirect to 'www.google.com/m' but will never load anything in the browser. Other pages dont load anything thing either. Once in a great while loading my Apple bookmark will change the title of the page at the top from 'Loading' to 'Apple iPhone' but then again, thats it. Nothing further loads, just a blank screen.
If I reset my usage and then try to load a page via EDGE, and then check it, it will say something like '2kb uploaded and 6-8kb downloaded' but alas, nothing will show in the browser. Seems like its getting caught up or stopped somewhere along the way.
Google Maps wont load anything, nor will Weather update my locations, nor YouTube access its database.
Oddly enough, sending and receiving mail through both my provider's SMTP server along with Gmail's web-based method both work, and I called AT&T to make sure that these transactions happen over EDGE, which they confirmed. So, EDGE is working to SOME extent on my iPhone, just not fully, and to the most useful degrees.
I know that I am getting close to realizing that there is a problem with my beloved hardware (oh no!) but I would like to explore all avenues before sending it in for work.
Anyone have ideas / experience with problems like this?

I would try a reboot first
A reset/reboot is:
Go to Home Screen
Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Then if that doesn't fix anything, a restore via iTunes (reload the OS).
Then if that fails, go to Apple Store.

Websites wont load in any browser on my mac

Hey guys,
     I am runnuing safari 6.0.1 and it was working fine but then it started acting up and now it just wont load any site except for google. When i type in an adress it will show as if it were loading but the blue would just stop near the begining of the bar. When i load google or make a search it will work but if i want to click a like it the link i click on will not load.
     If I restart my computer though it will work again but about 1-2 hours later it will go back to doing the same thing
     This problem is not only in safari it is in every browser, even in mail or messages it will only load gmail or google talk, very wierd.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

If you go to the Apple equivalent of: Appdata\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates (sorry am a mere PC user )
If there is a file titled iphone1,22.1_5F136Restore then try deleting it and then running iTunes without your iPhone attached.
Go to the menu and select Help/Software Updates which should then notify you that there are updates and allow you to download them in advance of restoring.
Hopefully this will download the update. Once completed attach the iPhone and restore.

Reset your iPod. Hold the power and the home button for 10 seconds till the iPod restarts. No data will be lost.

I receive an error stating user name and password are not valid on my ipad and iphone 3Gs when attempting to load email from my icloud account. When I log onto icloud from my Mac, it wont load the email either.

One day, my ipad and iphone pick up my emails (.mac account) from icloud just fine. the next day, I recieved error messages that say my user name and password are not accurate. I removed the icloud program on both devices and added it back on to both devices and get the same message. I logged into icloud from my Mac and while I can log in, it times out when I select email and wont load the email there either. Any Suggestons?

I am having the same problem; it started about 24-36 hours ago.
I know my ID/PW combo are correct because I can access all other aspects of iCloud except mail.
iPhone -- returns incorrect ID / Password
iPad -- Same
Mail.app on Mac -- returns incorrect password error
icloud.com -- allows me to log in and use all functions accept mail. When I try to use mail it stays on a white screen for about 60 seconds then returns a dialogue box that indicates a server error.
I contacted Apple and they placed my iCloud account into something called "Troubleshooting" mode. They generated a new strong password and sent it on to "Engineering."
I suspect there are a small number ofo users like you who are affected with the same problem I am. Too small a number for it to be reported as an outtage. I suggest you call Apple and open a case to have your mail investigaged.
