Mac wont recognize new battery...

i went down to the store and bought a new battery as the old one was/is dead. put the new battery in and back in service... well i got home and tried to start my computer up, it would not. plugged it into power cord started up and notice the battery was not recognized / available. i pulled it out, the battery, and slammed it back in. few minutes later it found it but then lost the battery.
I have reset the power management unit but thats about it?
Help! not sure if the connections are bad or what. is this a common problem?

If it's an brand new battery, who knows how long it sat on the shelf? If it isn't just a faulty one, chances are it's been completely depleted. Leave it in your 'book for a full 24 hours, noting if the green lights on the bottom are indicating that it's charging. Sometimes it's so dead it can't even generate enough juice to tell the computer it's there. If it still doesn't charge or show up after 24 hrs, I hope you have your receipt, because it's time to take it back.
Best of luck -- be sure to award points if I helped!

  • Installed new pages 5 but my mac wont recognize it.

I installed the new pages 5 but my mac wont recognize it. It says  it is downloaded and installed but not operating...anyt houghts?

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5.1 the Pages 5 files can not be opened in Pages 5.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 95 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • Mac needs a new battery, servicing and wiping.

    Hi Guys,
My old Mac needs a new battery as it is literally on its last legs, it also needs to be serviced and wiped as I no longer use it. Im going to take it to the genius bar to get this done.
However before doing this I am looking at saving all of my itunes folders and emails onto a hard drive. I understand how to do my Itunes but not too sure regarding emails? any help with this would be appreciated it is a Microsoft Exchange address if that helps.
Also do you think I could get the battery replaced first then save my things and then book another appointment to get it serviced and wiped. As I have never used the genius bar before
    Thanks in advance.

If you have a MacBook with the removable battery you can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

  • MY MAC WONT RECOGNIZE MY OLD IPOD!!!!

my ipod is pretty old and ive dropped more times than i can keep track of and now it won't load all the way up
it will load but then i gives me an error message
ive tried charging it and plugging it in to my mac but it wont recognize it
    what do i do?

The five Rs are documented here
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/ipod5gen/
or here is a copy of the restore instructions
    For Mac:
    1. Make sure you've reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.
    2. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.
    3. After a few moments, it will appear in the source list in iTunes.
    4. Select your iPod in the source list and you will see information about it appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.
    5. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download of the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:
Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod, even though a newer version is available.
Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with latest iPod Software version on your computer.
Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with latest iPod Software version on your computer.
    6. A message will appear prompting you to enter an administrator's name and password.
    7. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will instruct you to leave iPod connected to your computer to complete restore.
    8. During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage. Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
    9. After stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.

  • Lombard won't recognize new battery

After years of inactivity I wanted to give my old Lombard G3 to my little child so I bought new battery and new AC charger.
Now the problem is that Lombard won't recognize the new battery at all. Red cross on battery icon on top and empty slot in strip below.
I reset the Power manager as indicated here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
Also running Battery Reset 2.0 doesn't give me any results.
    What can I do now?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    fabiosko,
I'll just throw out some additional suggestions and comments.
-Does the battery have any charge, i.e. do any of the LEDs light up when you press the test button?
-Although it should make no difference, reset the PRAM also:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
-Is your new power adapter 45 watts or more?
-Try the battery in the right bay.
-Allow the battery to sit in the powerbook overnight with the power adapter connected. Sometimes a non-charging battery will begin to charge again and it may also apply to a battery that is not recognized.
-Do you know someone with a Lombard or Pismo with whom you could swap batteries?
-The reputation of third-party replacement batteries is not the highest. You may have a bad battery and will need to exchange it.

  • Classic wont recognize new printer.

My boss just got a new printer - which can only be installed in OS X 10.2 or higher. Now - she has a program that only runs in Classic - OS 9 - and she needs to print, but Classic wont recognize the new printer.
I've found the article on how to share printers between the two - will that fix it - or do you need installation software for OS 9 as well - in which case the new printer can't be used to print from the older program.
    Thanks,
    -Brad
Ps. - The details below are my bosses details.

    Hello brad,
It would help if you list the model and make of the printer. I am new to X but have been reading that there are often work arounds for this type of situation. There may be an alternate driver. I have just started to read about "GIMP" printing which i think is like generic driver for many printers.
Start with the make and model and I feel confident others will offer more help. It is quite possible that there may be a workable solution........Jim

  • G5 DP 2.0 wont recognize new hard drive

I just installed a new Western Digital 750GB SATA hard drive into my G5 DP2.0 tower and it wont recognize it at all. Ive checked and double checked the connections and I can verify that the drive is powering up but the system profiler wont even see it, and neither will disk utility or my Tiger installation DVD. Did I just get unlucky and get a bad drive or am I completely missing something here?

I found this regarding jumper settings: Western Digital Support.
A bit ambiguous but I am fairly certain you want that jumper enabled. In that drawing they call it OPT1

  • Pavilion G7 wont recognize new hard drive

My old samsung 640 gig hard drive was failing in my G7laptop I bought in 2012. I bought a replacement 500 gig drive that was similar as the old one. After installing it and trying to run the HP supplied recovery discs it wont recognize the new drive. It starts to boot from the disc and then about 2 minutes later a a little window pops up that says no HDD installed and then shuts off. I boot into BIOS and try to run a HDD scan and it says no HDD installed. To troubleshoot to make sure the motherboard or SATA cable isn't bad I reinstalled my old HDD and was able to go into the HP UEFI and scan the old hard drive so that can't be the problem if it can recognize my old drive . I tried calling tech support and all I get is them trying to sell me a HP supplied drive which I don't need because in my technical mind there should be no difference in the drives. They are both SATA 3 and therefore compatible. Please help!

Thanks mbutler1981. Advance Format drives shouldn't be a problem for this computer, it is older one that you can run into issues with.
So basically you are trying to get the drive to be recognized by the BIOS. First verify the physical connections are solid, and in place.
The next thing to do when the new drive is connected is to perform a hard reset:  Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset
If you are unable to see the drive in the BIOS, verify that you have the latest version of BIOS using this for guidance:
Update the BIOS. If it is lower than version F.26 then you can update it: HP Notebook System BIOS Update (AMD Processors) Version F.26
If you are still having problems with this drive in this computer, the problem is either the drive itself, or a compatibility issue. The manufacturer of the drive might be able to confirm the final diagnosis.

SO, I re-formatted on pc to ntfs and still no go. ANy help please on how to gain access to it on mac with only communication being with pc. Thanks!

    Try a simple SMC reset:
Reset the SMC (for MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models with internal batteries):
    1. shut down the MAC
    2. Plug in the MacSafe adapter (i.e.power cord/charger)
    3. PRESS AND HOLD SHIFT+CONTROL+OPTION+POWER buttons at the same time
    4. Release all keys and buttons simultaneously
    5. press the power button to turn on your mac as usual

If you mean that it had bulged out beyond it's original physical dimensions, then it may well have leaked something into your BB itself, damaging it. You should inspect the contacts and the battery compartment inside your BB for any visible corrosion...if there is such, it may be damaged beyond repair.
Beyond that, you can try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note that this has nothing to do with a "new" battery...while rare, new batteries are subject to a defect rate greater than zero...a truly "known good" (e.g., a friend with an identical BB and a battery that you know works fine) battery is needed...just be careful about transferring any corrosion to your friends BB...that would not be a nice thing to do to them.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Mac book pro new battery problem

Hi, I have got a question regarding a battery life.
I bought my Mcbook pro 13' over three years ago, and it has been working really well until recently. The laptop was running on the original battery all the time, and only recently it has 'flashed' the replace battery icon, after over 600 charges.
I went to apple store and replaced the battery and the charger, as the charger broke at pretty much the same time. Within the month of using the new battery, with cycle charge count of less than 30, the 'replace battery icon' pops up again. I went back to the apple store, and since the battery was less than a month old they have replaced it with a new one free of charge.
Today is my 2nd day on the new battery, it's the third time I am charging it and it's flashing 'replace battery!" I don't know what's wrong! How could a battery break in less than 3 day, where it has not been heavily used at all????
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
I will try to go back to the store again this week, but it's ridiculous.
I really appreciate any suggestion on what's going on.

Tell them to check out the MagSafe charging circuit, and ports, as well as the cables connecting it all together.
Say you want a FULL diagnostic, as there is something wrong going on here,(possibly something on the logic board, which has just about all the components on it, they don't work at component level, they just change out whole parts"chunks") be polite but firm, and if you do not get a satisfactory answer from the first tech, ask to "escalate" it to the manager.
    Best of luck

  • Mac OS wont recognize  new Seagate SATA hard drive...

My original seagate SATA 250G drive failed, trying to replace it with a Seagate 2G SATA, booting up snow leapard from the disk, Disk utilities doesn't detect the drive at all, so I can't reformat or partition it.  Read some info from seagate, but don't understand why i might need a host adapter card if the computer already had a SATA drive in it already... Any suggestions before I give up?  It is an old mac pro, first or second gen, used it all the time and has never failed me until now.  Both the broken drive and new drive are internal drives..

You should not need a Host adapter to install a SATA drive in a SATA bay.
But any mis-alignment at any stage can cause the drive connector to hit, rather than engage the backplane connector. The drive connector must fully mate with the connector at the back of the bay.
    • You must snug, but not over-tighten the screws at each position with the exact correct #0 Phillips screwdriver to get comparable torque on each screw.
    • The drive must then be inserted so that each roof tang catches the correct part of the sled. If one is bypassed the drive will be cocked in the bay and not mate.

My mac will not recognize my q-10, it tries to connect, but says that i need to update my phone software--which i just did and it still wont work. I tried re insatlling blackberry link, but it still wont work. I really need to trasnfer all contacts form my mac adress book to my new phone. HELP PLEASE!

Go into Settings > Storage and Access and make sure USB Connection is set to "Connect to Mac."
