Mac wont start if ADC is not Connected??

I have a G4 Quicksilver Dual processor, with Tiger OSX installed on it. The video card installed has a ADC and VGA connector. I recently wanted to change from the ADC monitor to the VGA(new PC Monitor). But when the apple display is not plugged in the computer wont start.
Why
I have done all the system preference stuff and changing secondary to primary and even swapped video cards with another machine which i know works with the VGA connection.
Please Help
Cheers

I do not believe it's the Graphic Card, I think it would need either a new Logic Board or Power supply.
Which card is it exactly, some can run both monitors at once.
And there may be a slight possibility that a Keyboard like this with a "Power Key" at the top right corner may work to start it...

  • Battery full - Mac wont start.  Heeeelp!

I just purchased my MacBook a month ago and I love it. Now Im having a problem...
I just had this problem today. The battery is full but my Mac wont start. But when I connect it to the power adaptor - it will start. Should I change something on the Energy saver option?
I've tried to remove the battery and placed it back, but the problem is still the same. I need your help please... thanks in advance.

Yup, looks like you've joined the Macbook Shutdown/won't boot club. Mine did the same after the random shutdown problem. I reset the PMU and NVRAM and PRAM and suddenly it wouldn't boot or operate on battery. Let me guess, it works fine on the adapter, but when you pull the plug it immediately shuts down, right? Even though the battery is fully charged? I'm also from DK. Did you buy yours at Humac? Mine is being repaired as we speak, well actually it's waiting for parts (new logic board and battery) but it's taking forever. Turned it in on july 25th and it is still waiting for parts. My advice is to demand a new one, don't hand it in for repair, because I seriously don't think they know what is wrong yet. What week is your Mac(Check the serial-number and post it)?
I've heard that a lot of people got the LB replaced, but soon after the problems started again.

  • My Mac wont start! what can i do?

My Mac wont start! After i restarted it for a update it just crash when i try to start it what can i do?

What and why aren't people doing something simple that has worked for the last 10 yrs:
Clone your system before you ever apply updates
Always have a working bootable backup (or two)
Keep the prior version on the shelf
Keep the combo updates around also.
It is not hard or rocket science.
There is no mechanism to undo rollback or restore check points. No utility to sandbox updates and revert as they sometimes go wrong. Things that are overdue.
MicroMat made having an "eDrive" partition s sinch to do and was its own recovery/emergency boot partition.
Carbon Copy Cloner has been around since 10.2.2, and later SuperDuper and others, Clone X etc.
A clean install is simple. Keeping your emergency boot drive for maintenance updated but with just Apple OS and essential drivers.
Use Safe Boot beforehand. People used AppleJack before updates or at first freeze or sign of trouble.
If you have more than enough room for TimeMachine, then a couple options:
Set aside 35GB is more than enough for emergency boot maintenance (Lion Recovery is nice but doesn't have everything your toolbox might want or need)...
Set up a partition large enough for your working system, again 40-80GB should be enough, you won't clone everything as you can leave your home account folders for TimeMachine if you want (but do want to copy your home Llibrary ~/Library). perfect job for Carbon Copy Cloner.
Setting up an external boot drive is 101 along with TimeMachine.
Not a good idea to have all your eggs in one basket two or more backup drives is better but...
TimeMachine - 350% your total files and changes needed to have file history archived,
    Emergency OS
    Clone OS
    I prefer a 1.5TB minimum.would do fine for most.

    orshikhfromsc,
boot from the Mac OS X Install DVD that originally came in the box with your MacBook Pro (by holding down the C key as it starts up). When the desktop appears, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and erase your internal disk. After it’s been erased, reformat it. After it’s been reformatted, exit Disk Utility and reïnstall the version of Mac OS X from that DVD onto your internal disk. After that version of Mac OS X has been reïnstalled, boot from your internal disk and run Software Update to get it up-to-date within that version; that should allow you to redownload and reïnstall Mavericks, if  desired. If Mavericks is reïnstalled, run Software Update again to get it up to date.
If you no longer have the two grey installation DVDs, you can purchase a replacement set from either Apple or iFixit.

  • Mac KeyChain Access App Hangs when NOT connected to WiFi

    Hi,
I am facing a problem with Keychain Access hanging and wifi connection in OS X 10.9.1 (Mavericks).
I use a Time Capsule as a base station and 13" Macbook Air (2012). The base station is connected to the internet through a PPOE connection.
    Here are the details.
Since upgrading to OS X 10.9.1, my Mac automatically connects to preferred wifi network ONLY WHEN the wifi is available at start up or when the Mac wakes up from sleep, but not otherwise.
Before the upgrade, the Mac automatically connected to the preferred wifi network not just at start up, but whenever the wifi became available.
In other words, after the upgrade, if I boot up the Time Capsule base station and the Mac simultaneously, the Mac scans for the base station wifi network (this is configured as the top preferred wifi network) at start up, but since the base staion is still booting up, the Mac doesn't find the wifi.
But once the base station has booted up and wifi is available, the Mac no longer bothers to join it.
At this point, if I click on the Keychain Access application, IT HANGS (I see a rainbow-colored rotating disc/ball).  And it continues to hang UNLESS I do ONE of the following to get the Mac connected to the wifi.
    1. I manually select the preferred wifi network using the wifi icon at the top of the screen;  OR
    2. I put the Mac to sleep (by closing the cover) and then wake it up.  On wake up, it connects automatically to the preferred wifi network; OR
    3. I turn off the wifi (using the wifi icon on the top) and turn it back on, at which point, the Mac automatically connects to the preferred wifi network.
As soon as the Mac gets connected to the WiFi, the Keychain Access application STOPS hanging and open up normally.
I also noticed that Keychain Access DOESN'T HANG (even if the Mac is not connected to the wifi), if I do the following:
    1. Go to Network preferences;
    2. Uncheck "Ask to join new networks";
    3. Click on the "Advanced" button, select wifi tab, and remove all preferred wifi networks and uncheck "Remember networks this computer has joined".
I obviously want to set preferred wif networks, so the above workaround to avoid Keychain Access hanging is not acceptable.
I have tried everything possible including contacting Apple support, but so far the issue is still unresolved.
Appreciate any help you can provide.
    Prem

There was a hotfix for this put out just after V25.
Unfortunetly you have to rebuild your viewer and submit and update to Apple. From my experience they were very quick about approving the update because of the critical nature of the update even without putting in an expediated review request, but that was over a month ago.

  • Photosmart premium c309a, mac (lion os) says it's not connected. after weeks of printing. why?

Photosmart C309a series [E9584E].  Has worked well for around a year.  Recently upgraded Mac to Lion, and it still worked fine.  More recently the computer says the "the printer is offline"  or "not connected".  Have unplugged the printer, shut down the desktop and then plugged in the printer, waited and started up the desktop.  Did not work.  Not sure what to do next.  Any ideas?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
First, turn both the Mac and Printer Off.
Unplug the router for 30 seconds and then turn all the devices back On.
    Now check for any change.
If there is no change, try resetting the Printing System and then add the device again.
*Be aware that resetting the printer system will remove any existing print queue and reset any customized driver settings.
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences .
    Select Print & Scan.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system .
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type your user Name and Password .
Click OK . The printing system resets.
Enter System Preferences > Print And Scan.
click the Plus sign and add your printer, then check for any change.

  • Power Mac wont start up

My power mac G5 wont start up. When i turn it on it comes up with a message saying you need to restart you computer and a load of script drops down in the top left hand corner. I cant get past it and tried everything. This happens everytime i turn it on.
    HELP!!!!!

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
    Have you-
1- Removed/disconnected all devices, except for keyboard, mouse and monitor?
2- Checked your panic log? You can check the kernel panic log any time that you must force restart your computer, using either the power button, interrupt button, or the Control-Command-power key combination. The kernel panic text is added to the log the next time you restart the computer, assuming that you have not reset PRAM at the same time (the kernel panic text is stored in PRAM until you restart). The file is named "panic.log", and it is located on your startup disk at: /Library/Logs/.
The panic report is also the "script" that is displayed when the "restart your computer" message appears. A copy of the report would help.
3- Tried a "safe boot"? Hold down the "shift" key when starting.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393
4- After checking the panic log, try resetting the PRAM:

if i reinstrall mac os (snow lepord) will i loose my files,or will a new partition be created?
    some info,
i have no backup and my imac  wont start , safe mode never gets past spinning  loading icon and i left it all night yesterday,
when i used disk utility when booting from the install disk im told the  "disk is damaged "  but the repair  utility wont run sand tells me to back up etc....
i cant make a new partition , and i cant make an image
    please help

    I fully agree with BDAqua.
Don't do anything with this Mac until you have an external disk which you can boot your Mac from.
Not all USB disks are easy to boot from - FireWire is better
When you have a suitable empty external disk I advise:
Put install DVD into damaged Mac
partitioning external disk into 2 volumes
install OS onto one volume of external disk
Don't import anything during install process - it may reintroduce historic problems
    Boot external disk
Use finder to copy critical data from Mac to volume of external disk with OS
Use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the whole Mac hard disk to the other external volume
Boot into installer DVD and erase Mac's internal disk
Partition internal disk into 2 volumes and install OSs as required

  • Starting Blend when client not connected to internet?

I've recently started experimenting with Blend with my Z30 and my laptop running Windows 7 Enterprise sp1; Blend Windows client v.1.1.0.17, Blackberry Blend app v.1.1.0.67 on the Z30.
One thing we'd like to do is to use it in places where we have no internet access other than through the mobile network on the Blackberry. Essentially tethering only for Blend.
Blend works fine if the laptop is connected to the internet, the Z30 connected to the mobile network, and the two are connected by USB. Once Blend is connected, I can then disconnect the laptop from the internet, but leave the phone connected to the laptop via USB, and Blend continues working without any problems, using only the mobile network.
However, if the laptop is not connected to the internet when I actually start Blend, I generally cannot get it to connect at all. I plug the Z30 into the laptop, start Blend, and it will go through Discovering, Connecting, Verifying Secure Connection, then end up with a "Can't Connect" message.
I say "generally" because Blend will connect if I try to do it within a very short time after disconnecting the laptop from the internet. It won't work, however, if, for example, I start up or resume the laptop somewhere where I don't have an internet connection for the laptop.
I'm guessing that the Blend client on the desktop does some initial verification prior to establishing the USB connection with the Z30 that requires an independent internet connection, and if it cannot do this it won't connect.
I also note that Blackberry Link on the laptop will crash if run when the laptop is not connected to the internet, and am guessing this might be related.
Can Blend be started when the only internet connection available is through the mobile network on the phone?
    -- BV

Following up on my earlier post; I also have a Playbook, and one of the most useful features is Blackberry Bridge, which provided similar functionality as Blend, though (only) over Bluetooth, and only between a Blackberry and the Playbook. Blend looks like it provides similary functionality, but on more devices, which is great.
Blackberry Bridge, however, does not require the Playbook to have an internet connection to work; I hoped Blend would work in the same way, thus my original post. FYI, I am a lawyer, and in my practice I am often at a tribunal or court where I do not have wifi access, and being able to use Blend to access my email and office intranet on the laptop would be a very useful feature.
I also note that Blend doesn't support Bluetooth; not a big deal, as a USB connection is fine, just curious. And I suppose that there is a good reason for the client requiring a separate internet connection, even if no one here seems to know why .

  • G550 Refuses To Start - UK Support Number Not Connecting

No I am not A happy customer! I bought a G550 six months ago in the UK and it now does not boot up (the lights come on but no-one is home). I have been trying to contact Lenovo about this for the past four weeks and have had no success. For some reason the UK helpline number does not connect me, I have tried to sort this through the retail outlet, the web-site and other technicians who do not deal with the G550s but they all ask me to call the helpline. Please could someone help me, I am desperate. Who do I call, who can I e-mail to get this lap-top repaired and has anyone else had this problem? The number I am calling is supposed to be 0808 234 2923 but this does not work. HELP !!!!

    Lisa, welcome to the forum,
I checked the number you posted against the lists, it's certainly correct according to them. What exactly do you mean by "not connect me"? Is there basically no reply or is the call cutting off at a particular point?
As far as you problem is concerned; have you tried the following; remove the battery and power cord. Press the power button 10 times keeping it depressed each time for 5 seconds. Attach the power cord, not the battery, and see if the system starts. Sounds weird, but it has helpedon a lot of occasions.
p.s. I moved this to this board and changed the subject to hopefully get more help.
Was previously in General discussion in the "Are you a Happy customer thread".
