MAC Word 2011 forum

Where are the MAC forums for Word 2011. I cannot get to the normal.dotm file and need help?
Jeffrey C. Chappell

Hi Jeffrey,
Try to browse to the folder /Users/ username/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/ and see if you can find the Normal.dotm file.
Also, here is the dedicated forum for Office for Mac, you can post your question there:

  • Mac word 2011 spellcheck

Hello. I was given a Mac to set languages and dictionary's since the owner is busy. Now all I've left is spellcheck in word. I found out that there are Proofing tools and since Word lacks Proofing tools for Latvian language on this Mac  it won't spellcheck
and Help says I need installation disc... but the owner said that He downloaded and got serials online. I couldn't find installation file. So the questions are:
    1) Is There a Proofing tools for Latvian language for Mac 10.9  Word for Mac 2011 ver. 14.4.5? (if Yes what info do I need from the owner to get it)
2)Where can I change encoding of .dic files so that Word would see the words  written in it propperly? Because  if I try manually adding words I need to change encoding of .dic file and I couldn't find that option so simbols like "ā ē ī"
etc where represented as different simbols like "?". I even tried to create file on windows where I know how to change it but Mac Word 2011 couldn't see the words in it as they should be.
    3) I tried to contact Microsoft for help online and it asked to log in Microsoft account, I didn't ask for owners account yet so I tried using mine and it said that Word's Product ID was invalid... was it because ID was registrated to the Mac Owners account?

  • Where is there a mac word 2004 forum?

clearly there is no space for it here.

I saw that page, but there weren't any forums there.
As I mentioned, the Microsoft support page I linked to has a link to newsgroups, where you can read others' questions and ask your own questions amongst other Word users. It's not technically a forum, but I was thinking it would serve the same purpose that you're looking for.
Scroll down on that Microsoft support page and you'll see "Post a question to the newsgroup" with a link to the Newsgroup page. That page has links to newsgroups specific to each Microsoft Office product, including this browser link for the Word newsgroup.

  • Why is the word count different when I use word count from the tools menu to the number at the bottom of my mac word document

Why is the word count different when I use word count from the tools menu to the number at the bottom of my mac word document

This forum is for Apple's defunct office suite 'AppleWorks' - since the word count is not in the places you mention I assume you are talking about Microsoft Word? Though it's just possible someone in this forum might also use Word and know the answer, you would stand a higher chance of getting an answer in Microsoft's own forums. You could also try asking in the forum applicable to your operating system - Lion, Mavericks or whatever - on the reasonably chance of finding someone familiar with Word.

  • Trying to re-install mac office 2011 (downloaded dmg) but installer "not responding"

My Mac Word 2011 seems corrupted, so I downloaded a dmg (from my Amazonm Software account {I purchased the 2011 Office package on Amazon in 2011}) in order to try to re-install.  Interestingly, the downloaded dmg is a file named "Office_Mac_Home_and_Student_2011_1_User_3_Installs_OLD_VERSION_Downloader.dmg" .
The problem is that the installer doesn't work.  It hangs every time with a "not responding" message appearing in the "force quit" window.
I should be able to get some help from Microsoft, I suppose, but don't know who to call at microsoft.  By thye way, I have never hade to reinstall any software bought over the web (so that i do not have any DVD copy) so this is probably more confusijg to me because of that.  Thanks.
I am using Snowleopard on an iMac

Why not simply re-download directly from Microsoft's website? Seems much easier going right to the source rather than using a reseller? Also if you have been backing up you can also restore from Time Machine which would be the easiest solution. Either way you will need the MS's install codes for re-installing the app.
BTW locating MS's download site took all of a second to research using Google. I searched for Office for Mac download and found:

  • Why does Mac Word using Endnote crash?

Hi all, I am using mac word 2011 with Endnote x6, and now Word crashes each time I use the CWYW search function. I have reinstalled both the Endnote and the Office package but the same problem reappears. Any suggestions what to try next, I'm at the end of my rope with this problem.
    Best, Peter

I found a solution to this: the endnote library must have been corrupted or there were conflicting copies of it on the computer. I removed all Endmnote library files from the computer and then only saved one intact back to make sure Endnote does not try to use a corrupted one and get jammed because of it.

  • Word 2011 for Mac Did Not Save My Work despite many save presses. Why?

I have been working on a document all week on word 2011 for Mac.
I initially saved the document and named it. It is still there in the directory folder I originally created it in.
I pressed the save icon every 20 minutes when working on my word document, saved it before bed, saved it when I woke up etc. Hundreds of save presses in over 100 hours of work in the past 10 days.
I also had auto recovery saving enabled to save every 10 minutes, this is still enabled.
Additionally I have time machine set up where it had been backing my whole drive after every few hours to a time capsule. I thought I had my backup protocols covered!
Today while editing and moving a text box within the word document, the whole word doc crashed  with an error message saying “that it had encountered a problem and needed to close”.
I was expecting a recovered document to open back up as has occurred many times in the past when Word automatically reboots after a crash. However when the recovered document opened every piece of work had vanished except for the title page and a few words.
I thought no sweat I will go back and get a time machine copy as I had a weeks worth of back ups.
Upon going back to every back up from the last week, all my back up copy versions of the document in time machine is just the title page as well, even though I had been saving this all week and the documents was 50 pages long.
It appears that despite me hitting save, the document has not saved any of my work all week except for the first time I created the file; is this possible?
I cannot find a copy of the document in the Microsoft auto recovery, it does not reappear in it original form when I reopen Word.
I cannot find another copy in trash or on time capsule/time machine in the completed format that I had been saving it in.
I can find the file with the original file name, where I originally saved it but all the work has vanished even though the crash occurred when I was simply moving a text box to sit under a table. (IE I did not delete everything and then press save.
Things I noticed into the lead up the crash:
I tried to email to another email account last night as an attachment from word as a third back up and it would not send as an attachment, where this is usually an easy way to send a document as a safety back up.
I tried to “save as” and give it another name before the crash to experiment with different formatting and called it test test test test but it did not show up in the folder when I hit the “save as” button. Any subsequent search with SPOTLIGHT does not show any file by this name test test test test, even though I am 120% positive that I did save the file correctly in two different places on my computer. Hence again the file would not save even though I did all the normal steps of saving.
Why was the file not saving when I have been pushing the SAVE button? Was the file corrupted?
What has gone wrong and does anyone know where to look for the missing work? I have exhausted every option I know over the last few hours. Thanks for considering!
    A very dejected Digger Boyle.

  • Word 2011 for Mac editing text in text boxes

This may be in the wrong forum, but I couldn't find a better choice.
I'm using Word 2011 for Mac, and I downloaded an Avery template for blank business cards.  When I type in the card (table cell), it makes it a text box.  The problem I am experiencing is that I can go back and edit some, but not all, of the text boxes.  When I click on a cell, I get the text box handles.  Right clicking gives me a pop up menu, and on SOME of the boxes, one option is "edit text".  Others, however, don't give me that option.  What am I doing wrong, or is there another way to go about this?
    Many thanks!

  • How to insert stress marks in cyrillic mac for word 2011

Hello.  I have a desktop mac (OS X 10.9.1), running mac for word 2011 and I work in Cyrllic fonts, primarily TImes New Roman and Cambria.  I need to insert stress marks (acute accents) on Cyrillic vowels Я Ы У Ю И Э as well as A E O.  None of the options I have seen on a google search help (holding down the e key, trying to find the Unicode range 000030 etc under the gear wheel in character viewer).  Are there any other options available?
    Thank you in advance!

The quality of the result for this kind of thing depends a lot on the app and the font, so you may have to experiment.  Word is usually the worst app.
Try TextEdit first, typing the Cyrillic and then double clicking on 0301 in Character Viewer after the base charcter:  Я́ Ы́ У́ Ю́ И́ Э́ Á É Ó.  Start with the font Lucida Grande and try others.  Try copy/paste a good result into Word.

  • Can't Open Microsoft Word 2011 on my Mac it crashes

I am hoping someone can help me. I can not open microsoft word 2011 on my mac book air (maverick operating system).
The problem actually did not happen until apple care helped me get rid of some malaware on my mac.
However as I google the problem and it seems to be something happening to a lot of people. I went thorough many forums and tried everything suggested (ie http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macexcel/microsoft-excel-has-encountered-a-problem-and/222d7f46-a092-4d8d-8f9d-e48c8a1a90ec?tab=MoreHelp)
I also restored the fonts and used another account user and it still does not work.
Does anyone have a suggestion. I am about to give up and use pages because I do not know what to do, I am stumped.
    Thanks

  • How do I turn off the print receipt option on word 2011 for mac?

My word 2011 has just started printing off a sheet of document details after every document I print. I'm using a macbook and have been unable to find a way to turn this option off. Obviously I clicked something by mistake, but I have no idea what it could
    be.

In the Print dialog box in the third drop-down (under Printer and Presets)
     - select the Cover Page option and check that "After Document" is not checked
     - select the Microsoft Word option, click Word Options... and ensure that nothing is "included with document" such as Document Properties. You can also adjust this setting (bit not the "Cover Page" one) via Word->Preferences-Print
If that does not help, then I suggest you post in http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macword where you are likely to find more people who can help with your question -
i.e., it's generally a better place to post questions related to the Mac version of the product.

  • Can I load Microsoft Office Word 2011 for MAC on an IPAD 2?  If yes, then how?  I have the software and one more load opportunity left.

Can I load Microsoft Office Word 2011 for MAC on an IPAD 2?  If yes, then how?  I have the software and one more load opportunity left.
Reason that I ask is that I'm worried that I will not be able to read or work word or excel docs that people send me.

No. Office 2011 for Mac is coded to run with OS X. In order to work on the iPad the app must be coded for iOS instead.
If you look in the iTunes App Store, you will find that there are many apps that allow you to work with Office files on an iPad.
