Mac word virus

My server is comcast.net. when i send attachments in word via email they appear in my sent folder but never arrive at their destination. I have been told that i possibly have a virus and comcast is blocking my word attachments. i can send rtf or ppt and they work fine. i currently do not have an antivirus program and am wary of installing one. please help with a fix!! thanks!

It could be that the recipient's email client will not allow any word attachments to be opened. That's the default setting for some windows email clients.
You can safely install and use ClamXAV. It's a free Mac antivirus app. Since it's free, you won't get a guarantee that it will work or even that it won't damage your Mac. On the other hand, it's been extensively tested and used by lots of folks. You can search through discussions or Google it (and you should if you've never heard of it before) to make sure it's safe to use. I use it, and lots of folks that post here do as well. but like I said, you should research anything before you install it.

  • MS Word virus

I seem to have a MS Word virus in my computer, and I don't have any antivirus software. I don't think it's going to do damage to me (or might it do damage to my Word files?) but I don't want to spread viruses to other people.
MS has instructions on their website for dealing with Word viruses, but they are less than helpful: there is one link to a long list of antivirus software makers, which is probably all non-Mac; then there is a link to an article on a method for removing individual viruses; but the link is not working.
I would like to know how to manually remove one of these viruses, and I'm not too keen on spending much money for this one virus problem that may never recur.
    Any advice, please?

    Hi Paul,
Well you could try using ClamAV to get rid of it.

  • How to keep links in a pdf converting from MAc word

    Hey.
I need to create a pdf with a document created in MAC word - and keep the links.  This doesn't seem to be working.
    Help??

That makes sense. So I guess it looks like I have 2 options.
    1. Put the JS short code in and have it open the link in a new window if the user opens it in adobe. If a google chrome user opens it in the default viewer, they wont be able to use the link at all.
    2. Leave the link how it is, and it will be usable in both viewers, but will not open it in a new window.
I am sureprised that opening the link in a new window isn't just an option in Acrobat Pro. I wouldn't think you'd have to make a workaround like this.
Is there an alternative way to have a page link on the form so that people can go to another .pdf whil keeping the main one open?

  • IPhone can't recognize .docx files create with  Mac Word 2008

iPhone will not recognize .docx attachments created using Mac Word 2008. It will recognize .docx attachments created in Word 2007 (Windows).
    Please advise?

This is easily reproducible. I have spoken to Technical Support at Apple. It has been escalated to the Development team. They are working on it. I expect to hear back from them in a couple of weeks.
I think that it is interesting to see few complaints about this problem posted anywhere. It speaks to the fact that the docx format is not adopted as widely as one would presume. We're going to have to stick to compatibility mode (i.e, doc not docx) until Apple fixes the issue.
    Have a nice day.

  • Why is the word count different when I use word count from the tools menu to the number at the bottom of my mac word document

Why is the word count different when I use word count from the tools menu to the number at the bottom of my mac word document

This forum is for Apple's defunct office suite 'AppleWorks' - since the word count is not in the places you mention I assume you are talking about Microsoft Word? Though it's just possible someone in this forum might also use Word and know the answer, you would stand a higher chance of getting an answer in Microsoft's own forums. You could also try asking in the forum applicable to your operating system - Lion, Mavericks or whatever - on the reasonably chance of finding someone familiar with Word.

  • Mac:word 04/08 random removal of spaces

short: mac:word removes spaces from documents randomly.
long: At first I thought it might be an issue with windows:word 2007 users and mac:word 04/08 users working on the same documents; however, I have had several instances were a mac:word 04/08 document that is created, edited, saved and re-opened on OSX (Leopard 10.5.2) without interaction with Windows; has spaces throughout randomly removed.
This is most annoying. I have found it hard to find other users experiencing this. Googling for the issue or searching in various forums just presents complaints and whines about interoperability with Leopard spaces. This is a much bigger and more frustrating issue, trust me!
    Versions:
    OSX Leopard 10.5.2
    mac:word 2008 v12.0.1 (08305)
    mac:word 2004

I have created two documents, one standard no modified styles and one with modified styles. Filled teh documents with the text:
The cow jumps over the moon.
Passing both documents backwards and forwards to OSX and Windows, opening, editing and closing and I can't re-create the issue in either document.
I followed the instructions at http://word.mvps.org/Mac/damagedPrefs.html for recreating the preferences and repeated the above steps, still can't re-create the issue.
Now oddly enough, the words do NOT appear as misspelt (i.e no red squiggly line) in Windows or OSX. If you manually preform a spell check they are picked up.
This can happen if I author a document, save it and re-open locally, so I did manage to rule Windows out of the equation.
If a document is opened on Windows and the spaces have been removed, opening it again on the mac, results in seeing that in fact the spaces have been removed.

  • Convert Lotus amipro file to mac word

    HI guys,
I have old lotus amipro files that I would like to convert to mac word. Is there a conversion kit available or is there any other programs I can use to convert amipro files? Any information would be helpful.
    Thanks

Do you still have a working copy of AmiPro? If so, the best way to convert your docs would be to open them in AmiPro and Save As > RTF (rich text) format.
There used to be an AmiPro converter in the MS Office Converter Pack (up to Office 2003), but it was pulled because the code was old and there were security holes. It was called Convpack.exe. You may be able to find it somewhere if you search the web (but note it is a Windows only pack).

  • Mac word 2011 spellcheck

Hello. I was given a Mac to set languages and dictionary's since the owner is busy. Now all I've left is spellcheck in word. I found out that there are Proofing tools and since Word lacks Proofing tools for Latvian language on this Mac  it won't spellcheck
and Help says I need installation disc... but the owner said that He downloaded and got serials online. I couldn't find installation file. So the questions are:
    1) Is There a Proofing tools for Latvian language for Mac 10.9  Word for Mac 2011 ver. 14.4.5? (if Yes what info do I need from the owner to get it)
2)Where can I change encoding of .dic files so that Word would see the words  written in it propperly? Because  if I try manually adding words I need to change encoding of .dic file and I couldn't find that option so simbols like "ā ē ī"
etc where represented as different simbols like "?". I even tried to create file on windows where I know how to change it but Mac Word 2011 couldn't see the words in it as they should be.
    3) I tried to contact Microsoft for help online and it asked to log in Microsoft account, I didn't ask for owners account yet so I tried using mine and it said that Word's Product ID was invalid... was it because ID was registrated to the Mac Owners account?

  • Mac Word Crashing when saving or spell check

I just got my macbook in January. I have been having this problem since then.
Occasionally when I press command+s or optioncommnandl while in Mac Word the program shuts down entirely.
This happens EVERY time I do spell check while typing a document when the langauge has been changed to Spanish. This also occurs when the language is in English.
Can anyone help me? It is so frustrating!

  • Staroffice 8 update 6 - unable to open files witten using Mac-Word

    Hi,
after installing the product update 6 any attempt to open a file written using Mac-Word in so-writer fails. Is my installation wrong? Or is it a new bug in SO 8? And: Is there a workaround?
Trying to open the same files in Openoffice 2.2 works fine.
    Thanks,
    Reiner

    Monday 30 April 2007
From your description, the only thing I can think of is that SO8 comes with Mastersoft filters for MacWord up to version 5.1. It may be possible that SO8-PP6 is reading something in the file header and trying to open the file using the Mastersoft filter. OOo does not have the filters.
To test I would try to open the file making sure to select the filter to be used, rather than using auto open.

  • Opening Mac word doc on Windows Word-Not working

I have Word 2007 for Mac and created a document. When I saved it I checked compatibility with Windows and Mac Word and it was okay. When I try and open that document at the office on my PC with Word 2003 it does not open. Any suggestions? Thanks

You probably have Word 2008 and not 2007 for Mac.
Try the *Save as* option and select *Word 97-2003* format.

  • Why does Mac Word using Endnote crash?

Hi all, I am using mac word 2011 with Endnote x6, and now Word crashes each time I use the CWYW search function. I have reinstalled both the Endnote and the Office package but the same problem reappears. Any suggestions what to try next, I'm at the end of my rope with this problem.
    Best, Peter

I found a solution to this: the endnote library must have been corrupted or there were conflicting copies of it on the computer. I removed all Endmnote library files from the computer and then only saved one intact back to make sure Endnote does not try to use a corrupted one and get jammed because of it.

  • Has anyone used Malwarebytes or anything similar to protect Mac from virus etc

Has anyone used Malwarebytes or something similar to scan Mac for virus and other security and effiency problems?

I should have been more specific, I wasn't given a Mac to keep, I was given a Mac to clean up. I have almost 20 years experience working with personal computers and I've worked on every major OS that's been released during that time (OS/2, every version of Windows since 3.1, Linux, Mac OS, Unix). I no longer work in a shop specifically fixing computers but my family still gives me their computers to look at whenever they have issues. My cousin just gave me her laptop since she was unable to fill out any web forms that would try to verify her e-mail address, plus she kept getting pop ups to run some MacKeeper software. Had this been a computer I received second hand I would have re-installed the OS regardless of the state it was on, but since she needs the files on her computer for school I figured it'd be much easier to run a Mac OS equivalent of Malwarebytes than to backup everything and re-install the OS.
Unfortunately when you search the internet for a Malwarebytes alternative for Mac OS, the majority of the time you just get posts from people saying "Macs are super secure, don't worry about it you won't get infected", which is a completely useless response for someone whose computer is infected. The rest of the posts responding to people who ARE infected are much like your response "Just re-install the OS" but that doesn't address the underlying issue of what's infecting the computer for those people who can't afford to lose everything. I was eventually able to Google the symptoms of this issue and determine that it was a trojan known as DownLite or VSearch. Once I found where it was located I opened up a terminal, ran sudo su to elevate myself to root, deleted the VSearch folder and files from the terminal, ran ps ax | grep VSearch to find the running application and did a kill -9 [pid] to terminate the app (rather than rebooting.)
Once that was all done I was able to use Chrome and Safari without all of the popups and hijacks. It took all of 5 minutes once I knew what the underlying issue was but I was really hoping to find a program like Malwarebytes so I could just let it scan the computer and tell me "These applications are malicious..." especially since my cousin installed a lot of stuff I would consider junk on her laptop and I didn't want to delete things that are just harmless junk (since she might use them.) Since I ended up having to do this all manually I'm just hoping there's nothing else lingering on the computer that didn't have visible symptoms.
