MacAIR keyboard light won't light up automatically

MacAIR keyboard light won't light up automatically, although I did tick where it says 'adjust keyboard light in low light' . It's OSX Yosemite 10.10

Good morning Otabek_USA,
If your MacBook Air's keyboard backlighting is not behaving as it should, I would suggest that you reset the computer's System Management Controller. Use the steps in this article -
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
Specifically -
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Best,
Brett L

  • Keyboard Lights won't turn ON

My keyboard lights suddenly won't turn on. I don't know what the problem is. I tried clicking on the F6 button which will turn the lights on, but this time it appears a NO sign when I clicked on it. Please advice.

Try resetting the NVRAM and SMC. Only reset the SMC if the resetting the NVRAM doesn't work

  • What can I do if MacBook Pro won't turn on but the keyboard lights up ?

Hi, my MacBook won't start but the keyboard lights up, if anybody has any ideas what I can do to get it to turn on, I'd be forever grateful,
    Tracey

Try ooting into your Mavericks Recovery partition - by holding down the command and R keys shilst booting.
Once at the Recovery screen, open Disk Utility, slect your hard drive icon on the left of the screen (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you'e renamed it) and click on the "Verify" button. If you get green text telling you that everything seems to be O.K., just reboot. If you get red text telling you that the drive needs to be repaired, click on the "Repair" button. If repair is successful, you should be able to bott normally.
    Call back with results.

  • Macbook Pro won't recognize iSight nor turn on keyboard lights

    Hi everyone,
I have a Macbook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6.8. I hadn't been able to turn the keyboard lights on with the F6 button for a few weeks now, and they hadn't been turning on automatically. Today, the computer stopped recognizing the built-in camera -- it's definitely a computer issue, as it is happening with numerous programs.
I have tried putting it to sleep and waking it up, restarting it, shutting it down and then turning it on, a PRAM reset, and an SMC reset, although I'm not sure whether the SMC reset went through because it didn't make any noise or anything when I tried it, although the power cord light did change colour. Any idea on how to fix what is happening?
    Best,

You have already tried all the usual troubleshooting suggestions.  The only thing that you did not mention was checking your Keyboard lighting settings through System Preferences.
Sounds like a trip to the AS or an AASP.

  • Keyboard lights won't work

    so i have a mid-2009 macbook pro: 13-inch, 2.26Ghz.
it was running 2GBs of RAM until this afternoon when i upgraded it myself to 3GBs with a 2GB stick.
i followed the instructions from apple to the absolute letter. however now, my keyboard lights aren't working. but it's funny... usually in direct light, the Fn keys that control the keyboard lights won't allow you to adjust the light, right? but they will for me, except there's no light to adjust.
i couldn't have done something, right?! i mean... i was was super careful and only handled the ram section, after which i blew off some dust and sealed it up again.
    please help!

    sadly... no success
i followed the instructions exactly; restarting and all. no luck. i did hold the buttons though... is it supposed to be a hold, or a quick "hit"?
i saw your post about a better look, so i opened the back again and took a better picture.

you can see the connector just below. i tried, again, to make it go in. it fits, but i can't get it to stay. that must be the job of a professional. i can't do anymore now - i'm too involved, and i'm worried i may break more than just some stupid backlighting on my keyboard.
in other news: iphoto does open a lot faster now!
    thanks again.

  • My keyboard lighting won't work. I can't turn the light up on the keyboard?

The keyboard light control (F6 key) won't work...someone help please?

The MacBook uses it's camera to detect the light level in a room and ajust the screen/keyboard brightness appropriately. If you are outside or in a well-lit place, your Mac will sense this and give you a circle and slash sort of symbol when you press F6 to tell you that you are unable to turn the keyboard lights on.
You can disable this feature by going into System Preferences>Keyboard>Uncheck Ajust Keyboard Brightness in Low Light.

Do you have a 15" mid-2010? If so then your problem is surely...
Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
             com.apple.GeForce(6.4.0)@0x82ac4000->0x82b7afff

                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Windows keyboard lights automatically on

So I have an interesting question, which is that when using windows with boot camp, boot camp sets the backlit keyboard brightness to max upon every restart. I rarely ever use the keyboard light, and find it distracting, so it's turned off in Mac. Is there a way to not be forced to manually turn this off every time? Maybe a setting in boot camp, or in windows.

Do you have the Ambient Light Sensor entry in your Device Manager?

  • IBook G3 Won't Chime - But Keyboards Lights are ON

My ibook was working fine, then I closed it so I could bring it into another room and then the computer became unresponsive w/ a black screen. I tried resetting the power management as instructed in the Apple Support and the only thing that happens is the power seems to be on because the green keyboard lights light but it's as if the computer never boots (no chimes and cannot hear volume up and down noise and cannot open the disk drive). Any suggestions? I've had the logic board replaced TWICE. Highly annoying! The last time the computer was sent back to me as a clean slate so I lost everything. I don't think it's the Logic board this time though because the two times that the logic board went bad, I could always here the reboot chimes and the volume indicator sounds. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
ibook G700mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Logic Board Replaced TWICE

Have you tried resetting the PMU?
The PMU (Power Management Unit) controls the charging function, so resetting it may help.
If resetting the PMU doesn't help, then I would recommend trying a known good adapter.
The iBook is acting like my husband's did when the power input (DC-in) board was damaged, so if resetting the PMU didn't help and a new adapter doesn't work, either, you may be looking at needing to replace the power input board (the part of the iBook which includes the adapter port).
Please let us know how things go for you.

  • Keyboard lights will not stay off no matter what I do on my MacBook Pro. Why??

I've got a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo.
I have ALWAYS left the keyboard lights off for the 4 years I have had it.
But lately, no matter what settings I change or what I try, I cannot PREVENT the keyboard lights from coming on when I've been away from the computer for a long period of time.
Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light is NOT checked in System Prefs. I have reset the PRAM, and left the laptop off with the battery off for hours in hopes of resetting it.
Nothing will work. Almost every time I am away from my computer for hours, I come back and the keyboard lights are on. And when I tap the keyboard light brightness buttons, it just gives me the buster symbol (white circle with a line through it) on screen below the keyboard light brightness indicator for a few seconds. Somehow continuing to tap those buttons eventually makes the lights just turn off. Or holding my hands over the whole keyboard to trigger the sensor can suddenly allow me to control the on/off brightness with those buttons again. In which case I try turning the lights off completely or turning the brightness so low that it goes off.
But once again, when I wake up in the morning, I find the keyboard lights on.
Now the ONLY thing that has changed since this started happening is that I added a new User account. BUT that should asbolutely not cause this problem. I have checked to see if the System Preferences for the keyboard lights in the new user account were causing a conflict, but no, they are exactly the same as my main account.
I have not tried deleting the user account yet because I actually want it and would find it very hard to believe that was the culprit. It's just the only thing I can think of that changed shortly before this started happening.
Is there anything else I can do!?! Is there some preference file that controls the lights somewhere that could be corrupt that I need to trash?
Thank you for any help anyone can provide. This one has stumped me good.

From reading up of other forums with the same problem i have come up with two reasons why it is doing that.
first try doing a smc reset
if that does not work then it is a hardware error. Many people have had the problem and they have not been able to fix it so good luck

  • Trackball and keyboard light are off

I have a blackberry curve 8310 on AT&T and just downloaded and installed the new OS 4.5.  Everything is working fine but I noticed the trackball and keyboard lights are not on and I cant figure out why.  Anyone know?

I'm having the exact same problem, upgraded to 4.5 and now the trackball and keyboard won't light up(although they do light up when booting the fone). What did you do to fix this?

  • To switch off the monitor and the keyboard lights?

    Hello,
Is it possible to switch off the monitor and the keyboard lights of a MacBook Air while I'm using it at home with an external monitor and keyboard?
    Many thanks in advance!
    manoka

You can turn off the keyboard lights by unchecking System Preferences > Keyboard > keyboard tab > Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light.   Then use F5 to lower the keyboard to off.
The Monitor can't be switched off but can be reduced to almost off using the F1 key.

  • Keyboard light doesn't work after updating to 10.8 on MBP

I have tried to update a MBP from Snow Leopard to Moutain Lion. But after updating the keyboard lights stopped working. Its A MBP from mid 2010 Core2, 2,4Ghz
We have tried to reset the smc.
Tried to untick the automatic brightness contoll of the keyboard llumination in system preferences.
Tried to use F5/F6 and it just shows that the keyboard light is turned on but its completly dark.
Is it coming a an mac os x 10.8 update for this problem?

Sounds like they did an Archive & Install, which leaves you with non-functioning Pro Apps (and Adobe apps, if you have any).
Try removing Final Cut Pro and Compressor and reinstall.
Instructions for reinstalling Final Cut Pro: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1846
    Instructions for reinstalling Compressor: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1888
There is an application called FCS Remover, but I am not sure if it works with Final Cut Pro 4.
If it is still not working, I would try what David suggests.
Here is a list Jon Chappell has compiled about what versions of OS X, QuickTime and FCP works best together: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/recommendedquicktime_and_mac_os_configurations_for_final_cutpro.html
If you live close to an AppleStore you could try to bring it back and ask them to help you.
    Best of luck!

  • I just bought a Macbook pro and the keyboard lights flash on and off.  What's wrong? do I need to take it back?

    ahhhh help!
