MacBook 1,1 Memory Compatibility

I have two (667 MHz) 256 MB DDR2 SDRAM sticks in my MacBook 1,1. I also have two spare 512 MB DDR2 SDRAM (speed PC2-4200S-444). Can I replace the 256 MB sticks with the 512s?
Thanks!

No. They need to be PC2-5300 or faster.

Im looking for all possibilities to close the compatibility gap because computer freezes at boot and was wondering if there was anything i could do to get this 16GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM to work at 1067MHz or somehow get my computer to run at 1333MHz?...

You don't have a late 2011 MB Pro.
    You have a 2010 version.  Your MB doesn't support 16GB.  8GB Max.
That's what it shows on your about this MAC.
    You need to return the RAM and get 8GB ( 2 X 4GB ) 1066MHz.
Your system bus is set to 1066MHz.
You're having issues because you've installed more RAM than your MB can support.  It's only reading 4GB per bank which totals to 8GB and not 16GB.

Ok when you refer to "memory" that is the Random Access Memory which is temporary memory the processor (worker) uses to store stuff while it's using it. Power goes off whats in the memory is gone.
Your storage drive is where data is pernamnetly stored if the power is on/off.
So what you really mean to say is your storage drive is filled up and you need to make some room.
You have a TimeMachine drive, what this does is makes a image of your internal storage drive as a backup method, it also allows some "back in time" restoration of your previous deleted files depending how much space is on that drive. The more space, the less data you have, the more days you can go back in time to retrieve something.
Unfortunatly the TimeMachine drive is not a extra space storage drive, it automatically rotates what appears on your internal storage drive. So if you delete something from the internal drive, it eventually gets deleted from the TimeMachine drive.
So you need to make some more room on your internal drive, this is rather easy, all you need is ANOTHER external drive and connect it to the Mac. Give it a name like ExtraStorage#1 and thenyou will have to decide which of your User files you really don't need on the internal drive.
For instance the best choice would be to move some movies out of your Movies folder to another MoviesExtra folder on the ExtraStorage#1 drive.
Movies take a LOT of drive space and you can always copy them on or off, or watch them from the ExtraStorage#1 drive as well. But if your going to do this a lot, you should consider getting a Firewire 800/400, USB 3,2,1 combination drive as Firewire 800 is fastest and decently priced (Thunderbolt is very high priced and overkill at this time)
The other things like Documents are quite small, Pictures can take a lot of space if you have a lot, but if you need them on the internal drive then that's better. Music one tends to use a lot or manage playlists and such, but perhaps some music you may which to move off or "prune", I suggest always burning data DVD's of music especially for extra backups.
Once you have freed some room on the internal drive, this liitle neat program will show you what is taking the largest amount of space on your internal drive.
    http://grandperspectiv.sourceforge.net/
After a scan, right click on the big squares to "revel in Finder" to show you what's taking the largest amount of space, be warned it also opens up hidden system files and folders, which you won't be able to move. So concentrate on what's inthe Users folder.
Likely if you have a lot of Movies this is the biggest culprit on most standard internal hard drives. Also if you have something in iTunes that's auto-downloading something like PodCasts and not deleting the older ones and you forget. So go there and fix things and that can free up drive space.
If you bought a small SSD with your new Mac, then the price of that SSD has come back to haunt you with low storage space, you will have to think carefully what you can live without on the internal drive.
Once you have slimmed things down, TimeMachine will update to reflect your slimmer internal drive. What this means is there is only one copy of your data on the ExtraStorage#1 drive.
You need to maintain two copies of your data at all times on seperate hardware, so now you need ANOTHER storage drive (ExtraStorage#2) to copy everythinng of ExtraStorage#1, or else if you drop or have a mechanical problem with ES#1 all that data will be gone!

  • BigBang Xpower memory compatibility

    Hi.  I have used A-DATA AX3U1866PB2G8-TP2.
AX3U1866PB2G8-TP2   is adopted ELPIDA HYPER MGH-E
However, when operating at high memory clock to freeze the PC.
Prime95 and OCCT Linpak freeze prone to stress test and so on.
But, no more errors in memtest86+.
I did not have the same problem that other memory with same setting,So memory controller with no problem.
So I think that the compatibility issue. Please solve this problem.
Incidentally, other memory is A-DATA AX3U2000XB2GB-3X. AX3U2000XB2GB-3X is adopted ELPIDA BBSE.
Voltage setting is also strange. Auto Vdimm is stable at 1.65v in.  no more errors in memtest86+
However, manually set to 1.65v too unstable. memtest86+ get many errors.
    Bios ver is 1.4B8.
and this is irrelevant, Vcore settings you want to be able to offset input.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    This memory is DDR3-1866 8-8-8-24-110-1T 1.65v
No, it isn't.  Such a specification does not exist.  It is an overclocking rating which has nothing to do with the "real" specifications of your modules.
Please set your command rate to 2T and retest.  At such high clock speeds (remember:  Intel's maximum for the CPU's memory controller is DDR3-1066!), 1T will not help you one bit.  Manually set it to 2T, otherwise the chances to stabilize your memory overclock is rather low.

This matter has been reported that MSI. What I have to wait until BIOS be fixed?
As I said before, first and foremost this is an overclocking problem, not a memory compatibility problem or a BIOS issue.  You are overclocking both the memory modules and are also forcing the memory controller to operate beyond its native specifications (DDR3-1066).  There is no guaranteed stability here.

  • MacBook Pro / MacBook memory compatibility

I have a 2.2 Duo MBP. I am going to upgrade to 4G of ram and I have a friend that owns a MacBook Black 2.0 Duo. From what I can see, they are both 200 pin SODIMM's PC-2 5300, 128x64. She wants to buy both of my 1G sticks from my MBP to max out her MacBook. Will the memory work?

  • Macbook, performanc and memory

For those of you who are still running 512MB in your macbook, go straight to the nearest memory store and upgrade now!! I got my macbook in today and was running it with 512MB and it crawled!! I also ordered 2x1GB sticks from owc and put them in after playing. It was like night and day, the performance was so much better it was like a completely different computer.

  • Memory compatibility

I am planning to upgrade the RAM in my early 2009 24"iMac from 4gb to 8gb by replacing the two existing 2gb RAM modules with two 4gb modules.
I also have a mid 2010 21.5" iMac with two free memory slots, I was wondering if I could install the old RAM from the 24" iMac into the spare slots of the 21.5" machine to boost that to 8gb RAM also?
    The memory on the older mac is 1033mhz RAM (DDR3 PC3-8500 CL=7 Unbuffered NON-ECC DDR3-1066 1.5v 512megx64) whilst the newer mac takes 1333mhz RAM (DDR3 PC3-10600 CL+9 Unbuffered NON-ECC DDR3-1333 1.5v 512meg x 64).
Does anyone know if the newer iMac will accept the older memory? Any advice would be most appreciated.

Just to reinforce Fortuny's suggestion: Absolutely, stay with the exact RAM specs for the Mac; actually OWC has a trade-in program for RAM, so you might want to check that out.
On the other hand, I always keep the original RAM: case in point, I had purchased 2 RAM modules for my Macbook and a problem developed about a month later. While I returned the RAM for an exchange under warranty, I simply popped the original RAM back in and kept using it until I received the replacement. Also handy to have if you need to troubleshoot.

  • I want to upgrade my Macbook's RAM memory. Help!

I have a Macbook 6,1 from Late 2009. When I check on the system information it says it has RAM memories with 1067MHz of speed, but in stores I can only find 1066MHz. Is it the same? Will it work?

Not all brands are compatible. That's why I told you to buy memory at OWC or Crucial > http://www.macsales.com Crucial sells cheaper memory > http://www.crucial.com

  • MacBook, low on memory, won't boot up completely

My old and proud macbook is maxed on memory space...which is why I assume it is not booting up completely. I turn it on and it goes into just the lovely outer space milky way image...and stays there.
Is there any way I can get it to launch all the way on....even if this memory availability is the issue?

You don't mention in your post what version of the Mac operating system you are using. That would be useful information.
Try booting the MacBook into Safe Mode by holding down the shift key on your keyboard during startup - this forces a file system check - and see if it boots completely. Let us know the result.
    Best of luck.

  • What is the best way to increase my macbook pro's memory, it is 4g now.

What is the best way to increase my Macbook's memory? it is a 4g now.

And what is the exact model of MBP that you have?
Normally, assuming your Mac supports more than 4 GBs, the best way is to buy the specific RAM required for your machine to replace the RAM that is now installed. But we can't tell you that without knowing what model you have.
Open System Profiler in the Utilities folder and report what you find displayed for the Model Identifier.

  • Mac Book Pro 17-inch Mid-2010 memory compatibility

I have a Mac Book Pro 17-inch, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8GB 1066 MHz DD3 RAM. The RAM consists of two 4GB modules. I was just wondering if I can upgrade the RAM by putting DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz SO-DIMM PC laptop memory module RAM. Will it work?

Buying RAM off eBay is probally the worst thing you can do.
Not only that, it's some off name brand RAM made for PC's, so it's likely to cause issues or fail in the Mac, which the seller might not respond for a exchange or refund.
Inexpensive RAM is usually lower quality and more prone to not working but might so it's pawned off to third party resellers to appeal to the cheap crowd willing to work more to get their machines running.
Opening up the MacBook Pro is delicate work with fine screws that need to go back into each exact hole they came out of. The more you have to open it, the more potential damage can occur that is not covered by AppleCare or warranty.
If you want perfect RAM the first time, without having to keep trying over and over which costs you more money and headaches, buy the RAM directly from the manufactor here
    http://www.crucial.com/mac/
When your looking at the RAM approved and tested to work for your machine, you can opt to spend more for the higher speed RAM however it will only work as fast as your BUS speed (aka: "Mhz") of the machine.
Benefit of the faster RAM is it will max the bus speed, whereas the matched speed spec-ed RAM can be a bit slower than the bus speed.
If your not into serious performance of the machine, then just opt for the most used spec-ed RAM speed.

  • I tried downloading sims 3 but it says it isn't compatible it is a white macbook and the memory is 2 GB am i able to fix it?

I bought the sims 3 that is compatable with mac and pc and so i downloded it and a big paper poped up and said it had to me a macbook and i have a mac and so how am i able to fix it and download it and i have 2 GB. I have fully updated it so i dont know what is wrong with it

read the technical requirements and see if you mac meets them.  It probably doesn't if you says it isn't compatible.

  • Older MacBook Pro needs memory upgrade, but there is a problem

I have an older 17" MBP (probably 2006 or so), Mac OS 10.6.7,  that has a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB of 667 MHΩ DDR2 SDRAM installed. Can I upgrade that to a faster DDR2, such as the 1067 MHz chip? If not, what do I do since I need the memory to keep things from crashing and/or taking forever to load?

    Silver keys: Yes
    Hardware:
      Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
Plus, I just ran the Crucial scan and got this:
    Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
    Maximum Memory: 4GB
    Currently Installed Memory: 4GB
    Total Memory Slots: 2
    Available Memory Slots: 0
It appears that I am already maxed out on memory. Guess I will have to figure something else out.
