MacBook 10.6.8 Won't See Home WiFi

Here are my symptoms:
At only my home office Airport will not even see my Netgear router.
This is a new condition as of a week ago.
It did start with not seeing router when opening laptop.   I would play around in preferences and it would start to work.
Does not see router with my newer Netgear WNR 2000v2.
Does not see router with my older Lynksis G router.
Does see one or two routers near my location.   My other devices see 5 or 6 routers nearby.
Works just fine at other locations whether open or secured locations.
Other devices at my home office see and connect just fine.
Here is what has been done.
Tried using older Linsys G router.
Reboot routers and modem several times.
Moved Netgear router to a different location.
Netgear supports automatic channels but have tried several fixed channels.
Router does broadcast SSID.
Changed to open unsecured settings.
Laptop works plugged into router LAN port.
Will not see router with laptop sitting right next to router.
Have deleted and reloaded airport from preferences.   I think this reloads the driver.
Again it does work at other locations including the Apple Store.
Been to Apple store Genius Bar twice.
First time deleted a Rewifi profile they thought maybe came from a college.   Might have actually been a hotel or my office wifi set up.   Also, did a couple of other things so fast I did not see what they did.
Second time they reloaded my OS and did some "stress testing".  I was told it checked out fine.  I picked it up the next day and same condition exists.
This is an older MacBook maybe 2007.    I am stilll not sure if it is a hardware or software issue.  It seems to me maybe it is a radio issue but why fine elsewhere which makes me think it is a software issue.   I am very confused PLEASE help!

Option-Click just shows more details about your WiFi connection. If the BSSID is visible, and if your other devices can connect through it, and if your Mac can connect to other WiFi networks, then it's most definitely a software issue.
Resetting PRAM and SMC settings could help.
Another thing to check is the MTU value under Ethernet in the WiFi Advanced settings (yeah, I know, it's strange): set it back from the factory-set 1500 to 1460. Sometimes helps, not always.
You didn't change security settings on this network, by any chance? Such as going from WPA-Personal to WPA-Enterprise, or something like that?
Oh, I almost forgot: do you have an IPV6 public IP? If so, check in your Network (under TCP/IP) parameters to see if it resolves IPV6 addresses automatically. If not, set it so. Address translation can be muddled if your router finds a devices not ready for IPV6 addresses. The suffix setting in the IP table may differ between IPV4 and IPV6.

    try this.
get back into your router's settings and start deleting devices that are not connected to your router.
you can also delete the ones that are connected - they'll connect again.
on the DHCP side of it, increase the amount of users that can connect/log in to your router.
see if that sorts it out for you.
    good luck.

  • My 4 can see home wifi but won't use it without restarting

I have wifi at home and at work. Many times when I come home, my 4 will automatically connect to my home wifi, but seemingly won't use it without restarting the phone. I tried going into the network settting and did the reset and went and re-entered the wifi passwords for home and work; and soon after displayed the same bahvior. Work wifi doesn't bother it. My 4 didn't aquire this problem until OS6 and still does it under 6.0.1. Turning off the phone's wifi and back on doesn't help. Renewing lease on wifi doesn't help. My wife has the same phone on the same wifi and the same time and it does'nt do this. She doesn't have wifi at work.
Sometimes I get very sporadic an limited data, could be using 3G. After phone restart the phone is fine until another day when the problem returns. I've tried turning ap's off but nothing helps but a restart.

The first thing you need to do is restart your router.  Unplug it, wait 1-2 minutes, plug it back in and wait for it to connect to your provider and download the latest IP informaiton.
Next go into settings and forget your wifi network.
    Reconnect to your home wifi.
Go into the settings for your network and set the proxy to Auto not off or manual.
Hopefully this will work for you.  I had the same problem when I updated to iOS 6.0.1 and setting the proxy to auto seems to have cleared it up.
Not sure what Apple has done to the firmware and how it interacts with wifi, but hopefully they will have it worked out when iOS 6.1 is released.

  • MacBook 10.6.8 Stopped connecting to home wifi

I've read similar forums but can't seem to master this no matter how many steps I take. About a week ago my Macbook stopped connecting to out home wifi. It connects to neighbors and public wifi connections without a problem (how I'm posting now-local open wifi network). We called our ISP and and they came, replaced the modem, and still it won't connect. It shows that I am connected but it will not recognize when I attempt to connect. With Chrome, I keep getting the "Receiving host" error so I've tried researching that. But with Safari or Firefox it won't connect. Regardless, I've tried Open DNS, I've deleted all my prefered networks, I think I've tried every possible step I can find. Any suggestions?

    Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

  • Iphone won't find home wifi

After months of use, my iPhone won't find my home wifi.  My iPad has no problem, so I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how they fixed it.

3 options - try to see if the phone is able to connect after each one
    1. Forget the WiFi on your iPhone - then reset your phone - Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support - Re-add the wifi
    2. Restart the router after a 30 seconds gap
    3. Temporarily remove the security on the home network - see if the device connects and then re add the security

  • After 10.7.4 update can no longer see home wifi signal

Ever since I updates my MacBook air my home wifi ( the one I used for the update) no longer shows up on my computer. It shows up on my mac mini and iPad and my MacBook air can connect to other networks. Any ideas?

No NAS other than an Apple one includes native support for AFP. They all use an open source package called Netatalk that is junk. Many years ago Apple deprecated the old security modules that Netatalk uses.
The easiest solution is to hack up Lion so that it will connect with the old security protocol. Do a search for "lion dhx2" or something like that. Another option is to update your NAS to a version of Netatalk that includes support for DHX2. That is easier said than done. Netatlk isn't as "open" as other open source packages.

  • Can't see home wifi network

Today, I found that I could no longer see or sign on my home wifi network. Just my network; I can see my neighbors' wifi networks just fine (and connect on the unlocked ones).
I tried resetting the router and unplugging/replugging it multiple times, and also setting it up again via a pc. It is a secured network with a WEP password.
Weird thing is, my roommate who has a pc is having no problem seeing and getting on the network.
Did I mess up some network settings on my mac? I just switched to a mac about a year ago, so I'm pretty new at navigating through the settings.

Glad you got it working again, though I don't understand why resetting via the Mac worked when doing it via the PC hadn't. Another thing to add to the long list of things I don't understand I was sitting at my Mac trying to work out a list of debugging steps for you when your post came in, so I am delighted you let us know.

  • Why won't my home wifi work after jelly bean update?

My phone updated to jelly bean on tuesday morning, and i noticed i cannot connect to my home wifi.  It will connect at school or work however.  I have tried turning off and on my phone and my router.  I know its not my connection because my other devices all connect to it.  When i go to the wifi on my phone, it detects my home wifi with a full signal, but when i put the password in to connect, it says the signal is poor and it just repeatedly tries to connect.  Is there any way that i can get my wifi to work again?  If i have to and if there is a way i will uninstall jelly bean if thats the only way to get it to work again.

Here is my current situation with a brand new Razr HD:
    -Linksys WRT54GL with updated firmware
-New Razr HD purchased 5 days ago
    -System Version: 9.16.6.X926
    -Android Version 4.1.2
    -Build Number 9.8.1Q-62_VQW_MR-2
My Mom got the same phone at the same time and has dropped calls, poor wifi signal and range, etc.
I have fully set up my phone with apps and all settings perfect, cleared the system cache, one factory reset and input all app usernames and passwords again, etc.
My phone is perfect, except for not connecting to wifi in a room downstairs from the router where all other devices, a Nook, 10-year old DELL laptop, and Droid Incredible get 4 full bars of wifi strength. This Razr does not connect at all and rarely if it does when I leave the door open gets one bar of strength and is useless.
I love the phone so much I am reluctant to swap it out and lose all my app settings and customization. I read that it isn't mattering if you swap it out, still the same problem. But it's bothering me and I want it right so I went to the Verizon store today to test it and swap it out for a new different one. They don't perform tests and didn't know what I was talking about. Very abrasive staff and manager tried to research the issue for a half an hour, then said they had a call in to Motorola. If I wanted to swap it out I could but that would be my one swap and that's it.
I have actually spent so much time and effort on this I wanted to get a MAXX HD for my wasted time and frustration. That is simply out of the question. I stood there with my phone connected to the Verizon wifi network in the store with one bar of wifi strength, while the display connected to the same network showed a full network signal all bars.
They were so abrasive, demanding that it doesn't matter how many wifi bars you get it will still connect to the Internet. I said no that's not true this device will not connect in my bedroom while all other old devices get full wifi strength. They didn't care.
They were so reluctant in the matter that I decided to walk out and watch for an update to Jelly Bean to solve the issue. People are taking their phones back and it doesn't fix this. It seems to be strictly a Jelly Bean update fix.
I will watch my phone, only use wifi in large areas that usually work fine, etc. My question is: When will there be a Jelly Bean update pushed out to Razr HD owners on Jelly Bean so they will have comparable wifi and signal strength to every other wifi enabled device that exists?
    Thanks
PS. I have tried every single router and phone setting mentioned on any forum. Same thing. This requires a 2nd update.

  • MacBook Pro Late 2008 won't see my scanner

I have a new MacBook Pro. I noticed that I could not find my scanner anywhere in the system. I installed Adobe Acrobat and went to create a pdf from a scanner and the software could not find my device.
Any tips on how to get the system to see my scanner? I have an HP Photosmart 2710.
    Thanks.

Did you load the scanner software?
I have an epson scanner that required that I installed specific drivers before being able to use the scanner.

  • MacBook Pro 2010 Can't Connect To Home Wifi

    Hey,
My home was setup with a Cisco Linkysys wireless router (about 2 years old) and at the time the iMac that was hardwired to the router and other devices like an iPod/ iPhone and a Nintendo DS etc. would be able to access the home network.  I arrive now (to the parents home) and can't seem to gain access to the network.  I was able to connect once and use the internet but the next day couldn't connect again.  We've confirmed many times the password is correct, reset the linkysys router and tried again but failed.  I would see the router and have full or high signal but upon entering I would get either an "Invalid password" or "Connection timedout" error response.  I also tried Network Diagnostics and Assistant walk throughs under the Assit Me... button but didn't work.  I've also tried choosing the network in Network Preferences under the drop down menu Network Name and entering the password there but to no avail.
Then recently got another wireless router (Airport Extreme, I figured I we could use another one for the home anyway) yesterday, and did the setup and other devices and the hardwired iMac all can connect and use the internet off of it.  I am currented hardwired to it via ethernet and all though I am right next to the new Apple router, and have full bars, I can't connect.  The most I have gotten was being connected with full bars for a few moments and then the exclamation point coming up in the Airport icon.  BTW, for the past 2 days I have been connecting to free wifi at another public place so I'm really not sure what is going on.  Both networks (the Linksys created one and now the Apple one) are protected via WPA2 Personal.  My notebook is only a year old show that should be fine too, no?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm at a trouble shooting dead end from my mind's perspective.
    Thanks,
    Brian

I have the same issue. Was working fine until Saturday when Rogers reset my modem because we lost our internet connection. Our modem is direct connected to our PC and we connec with the Macbook through wifi.
When the modem rebooted we got an IP error and they had to do a renew and release. Since then - no wifi on macbook.
every time we try to join our home network it gives a password wrong error. The password is not wrong. Airport is a solid yellow light. Ethernet is red.
I am not great with macs and I have scoured the net and I cannot figure this out

  • Just bought a MacBook Air and it won't connect to wifi. Any ideas??

I have a new MacBook Air and am trying to set everything up but it won't connect to my wifi connection at home. Password is correct, have double checked everything. Even tried using a personal hotspot through my iPhone but that doesn't work either.
    Not sure what to do.
    Any help??
    Thanks :)

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • Bought a new Macbook Pro yesterday, can't connect to home WIFI (Help!)

    Hey everyone,
Bought the Macbook Pro 15" yesterday from the states and took it home to British Columbia. So I set everything up, tried connecting to my home router network and it says:
    "Unable to join WI-FI Network
This computer was unable to join the WIFI Network you selected. You may have entered an incorrect pass / network name, chosen the wrong type of wireless security, or you may be out of range of the base station."
also, the settings say that "Wi-Fi has the self assigned IP address 169.254.156.214 and will not be able to connect to the Internet."
This is really frustrating because the desktop I'm typing this message on is connected to the internet fine, my brother's Macbook is connected fine, so are the various iPad's and iPhones in this household. Everything except for the newly bought Macbook Pro.

Make a couple of phone calls.
iDVD is a “Must Have".   (Yes, it should be included.)
Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.
    800-692-7753

Most people report that by asking here:   http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html
    or here:   http://www.apple.com/contact/
they got a free copy of iDVD.
If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11 on disk (don't get the download) for about $39.

  • I have an IPod touch 3rd gen that won't see any wifi connections.

The wifi doesn't work at all. I tried everything besides restoring it to fix the problem and the back where the antenna is has been pushed in. It just loads like it's looking for wifi, but it doesn't find anything. Any ideas how to fix it? :/

Likely that the wifi antenna got damaged or disconected. The iPod has to be fixed.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours. May not be wirh it for a 3G.

  • 2013 Macbook Pro will not reliably connect to home WiFi.

This problem began about a month ago.  I've owned this computer for 2 months and had no problem the first month.  Now, when I turn it on it searches for the wifi signal and my wifi's SSID is visible but it doesn't connect, even when I select it from the list. It stops searching and the ! icon appears.  If I restart the computer it will usually connect then automatically but at times I've had to restart it 2 or 3 times before this happens.  And it can happen multiple times each day if I shut down the computer.  At times though it works normally so the problem is intermittent.  My Iphone 5 has no problem connecting with my router.  I believe this began happening about the time I added a Brother wireless printer.  I also now occassionally get a message that there are 2 devices sharing the same IP address and don't know what that's about or if it's related to the problem.  This is my first Mac (and first wireless printer) and I should also add that I consider myself a technodummy.  Help in solving this perplexing and annoying problem would be greatly appreciated.

  • My macbook air will not detect my home wifi anymore!

    In Summary:
Macbook air used to work perfectly on home wifi
Wifi dropped one day and all devises lost connection but when the wifi was fixed the MBA wouldn't detect it anymore even though all other devises did
MBA still works on all other wifi networks
How can I get my MBA to detect the home wifi again / why won't they link anymore?
My home wifi (Sky is the provider) dropped one day because the lines went down but after it was fixed the macbook air (2012) stopped detecting it..
The macbook will detect any other wifi network (office, public, friends houses etc) and works perfectly but will not even pick up the home wifi.
This is particularly confusing because all other devises including iphones, laptops, tablets etc will detect my home wifi without a problem.
The only time it has connected to the home wifi since dropping is when my laptop picked up my neighbour's wifi (which is rare where i live as houses are far apart) and then my home wifi showed up and worked perfectly until i closed the MBA and it wouldnt pick it up again
I have been without internet in my house for c. 6 weeks now even though the laptop appears to work ok on other networks and the home wifi works perfectly with other devices
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Go to System Preferences > Network. Select Wi-Fi or AirPort from the left column. Click the Advanced... button.
Under the Preferred Networks list, select every Wi-Fi network that appears, including the one(s) you want to use, and delete every one using the "–" (minus) button. Select the box "Remember networks this computer has joined" if it is not already selected.
    OK then Apply.
Select your wireless network in your Mac's Wi-Fi menu and provide your wireless network password. Be sure the network you select is yours and not someone else's.
