Macbook 11". Mac OS 10.6.8. Firefox 12. Won't display Alexa toolbar. Tools/Add-ons Alexa toolbar/preferences does not work. tried repairing permissions. no joy.
Tried google - no posts.
It looks like that the installation process of one of the applications have caused some trouble. One of them may have changed or added kext files.
For that, the Window server crashed if you try to open a non Apple application like Firefox
Start the system in safe mode by holding the shift key on power on.
If save mode is reached, perform a permissions repair with the Disk Utility.
Don't bother about upcoming warnings like "could not repair file xy" as that occur cause you use the tool on a running system and opened files can not get touched by the tool.
After repair is done reboot system to normal and try to open Firefox.
If the problem persits, please report back here.

Thank you Morbus and Cor-el, for your prompt replies. Here's what I did: I've placed the Firefox icon in the quick launch toolbar. So I right-click this firefox icon>Properties>Shortcut tab>in Shortcut Key field, add X (the word "None" changes to "ctrl + alt + X")>Apply>Okay>and that closes the dialog window.
Then, to try the new launch short-cut, I press and hold down, in order, ctrl, then alt, then x (holding all three down) . . . and nothing launches.
I thought this would do it! So any further thoughts would be a splendid help ---- many thanx! -
I finally got so tired of Firefox freezing my computer that I tried to uninstall and reinstall. Upon reinstall, it will not work at all and I am unable to delete my old user profile. Is there any way to get rid of this profile so I can give one last attempt to get Firefox to work before switching permanently to Google Chrome? I really liked Firefox for years until they screwed it up with the recent changes.
Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

Many add-ons work only with a particular range of Firefox versions. After the upgrade, Firefox will attempt to find new compatible versions. This is not always possible.
To determine whether an add-on you can't live without has a version for Firefox 11, you can check the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ Add-ons site] or try this add-on to make that a little easier (I haven't tried it myself): [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/is-it-compatible/ Is It Compatible? :: Add-ons for Firefox].
By the way, many recent posts report problems with Skype add-ons, so you might want to research here if you notice any strange copy/paste problems. -
I just allowed FireFox to update itself. Now the version is at 25.0.1
Running on Windows XP Pro version 2002 SP2. FireFox has ALWAYS worked. NOW IT DOESNT. I can't even use it to connect to my own router login screen. IT IS DEAD.

The detailed instructions go into firewall config bs. HOW DO I remove Firefox from my program's list of trusted or recognized programs? What does this have to do with Firewalls? Why is this happening in the first place? Can I revert to an earlier version. My Firewall is OFF. These instructions suck. -

Trash on the Mac has become very slow, the removal process was take hours.
Then the process of removing all stops.
Why files are not removed through the trash?
What could be causing the removal process?TimeMachine is designed to back up every hour. It saves only the files that have changed during the hour. After 24 hours TimeMachine culls the (up to) 24 backups to make a single backup for the day. After 30 days it takes the 7 oldest day backups and culls them into a single week backup.
You should never manually touch files in the TimeMachine backup. It doesn't like that. The best practice for TimeMachine is to devote an external drive to TimeMachine and nothing else. Because TM backups are incremental, it is recommended that your TM hard drive be 2-4 times larger than the amount of drive space your computer is using. In other words, if your 1TB hard drive is 1/4 full (250GB in use) you should have a TM drive between 500GB and 1TB depending on how much more data you expect to add to your drive and how long you wish to keep old back files.
Having said all this, you might prefer using some other program for backups. CarbonCopyCloner and ChronoSync are two programs you might want to look at. -

The option for Mouse Keys may have become turned on. To check for that, go to System Preferences > Universal Access, switch the view to Mouse, then turn Mouse Keys off if it is on.
Note that in that same pane there is shown a keyboard toggle for that feature - press the Option key five times in a row to turn it off or on. If Mouse Keys is the problem, that may have been how it got turned on. You can prevent that from recurring by unchecking that item. -
Firefox 18 US-english on SuSE Linux does not work

running Firefox 17.0.1 on my SuSE Linux 11.2 works fine.
As I updated to Firefox 18.0 in Windows, I also downloaded
the US-english version for Linux (firefox-18.0.tar.bz2) and
unpacked it. The big disappointment: IT DOES NOT WORK!
XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /root/test/firefox/libxpcom.so:
libxul.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load XPCOM.
I removed the installation, restarted the system, installed again.
No change. I tried the German package - the same problem.
What am I doing wrong? Is this a known issue? Any remedy?

I had firefox on my computer and it made me download the newer version, but once I downloaded it, it said it does not work on my computer which is a Mac OS 10.4 and now I cannot use firefox at all on my computer. How do I download an older version that will work on my computer?
As of Firefox 4.0 and newer one needs at least OSX 10.5+ and Intel hardware.
The latest you can use on your Intel with OSX 10.4.11 is Firefox 3.6.25 (released recently) which can be found at http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
If you were to update to say OSX 10.5.8 then you can use Firefox 9.0.1 -

ince updating my firefox browser whenever i click on an internet link in an email it does not open on firefox athough my mac switches to the firefox window as i have this set to be my default browser- what should i do?
I have the same problem, and I also wondered if Google toolbar has anything to do with it. There GMAIL was set as the default mail application at first. I have removed that setting, but Firefox 4.0.1 continues to use GMAIL instead of Outlook which is my selection for mailto handling.

Back up all your files, on boot up when you first press the power button, press CMd and r and keep pressing until you get something apart from a apple logo. Then click reinstall Mac OS X or something like that. You may be prompted to insert your disk.
