MacBook 13.5" freezes (stutters) during online video streaming

So my MacBook is about 3 years old. Never really had a problem with it until about a couple of months ago. When I want to stream a video it will play just fine for about 1-3 min. Then it will start to freeze, the whole computer begins to be unresponsive, mouse does not move, can't click, or otherwise change anything until the computer ends its little psychotic episode. I have been able quit the browser (Firefox just recently updated) and re-try the video but still no luck. I have restarted the computer completely and it works agin for a few minutes but back to the same mess right away. Any Ideas as to why my MacBook would do this?

Max out your ram.
Make sure you have the latest versions of Perian, VLC, Perian & Flip4Mac.
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run _*Repair Disk*_ from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select *Disk Utility.*
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click *First Aid.*
Click _*Repair Disk.*_
Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751
If these suggestions do not work, post the link of the streaming video you are trying to view for us to test it out.

  • Trouble viewing online videos (streaming issue?)

Hello. I'm having trouble watching online videos. Video podcasts downloaded in iTunes are fine, but if for instance I want to watch a TV show online or a video clip from a news website, the picture is choppy and the sound breaks up. It's as if it isn't streaming properly (if that is the correct term). I have an original Macbook (2006), OSX10.4.11, 2 GHz Intel, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM if that helps anyone. My husband has the same computer, purchased at the same time, only his was the model with more memory (not sure how much at the moment). His works fine, though.
Also, not sure if this is related, but my computer has a tendency to spin (or make the noise as if it is spinning) randomly - sometimes for long periods of time.
Please any advice on how to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I am moving this question to another area. I see I posted it under Optical Drive

I Am Sorry. In fact had the DST setting to + 1:0 and I changed to 12:0 am; As the clock time was delayed, because in Portugal we are indeed in summer time!, I changed the time directly. Unfortunately the reminders remain with an hour of advance. The alarm clock that is set crescento for 7:15 minutes as the set initially and never changed. The first reminder has been set for the 7:15 but is now changed to 6:15 due to this error. Does anyone have any suggestions other than modify all reminders. I would add that the Firmware of the Nokia C2 03 est actualized to a V7.48.

    Lamento. De facto tinha a definição de hora de verão para +1hora e alterei para 0horas;

  • AAC audio causes stuttering in live video stream playback

I am using the Spark VideoDisplay component and setting the mx_internal bufferTime to 0.  (videoDisplay.mx_internal::videoPlayer.bufferTime = 0)  I am doing this because I need to have the absolute minimum delay in the live video stream.  I am broadcasting video files as a live stream using ffmpeg, through Red5, then to the client.  ffmpeg is not re-encoding the video or audio.  I am using h.264 video format.  I have tried encoding videos using Adobe Media Encoder and ffmpeg.
When I have a video stream only and no audio stream this works fine, but when I have an AAC audio channel with the video, I frequently see the video jitter badly.  It looks like the video is quickly going forward and back a few frames.  When this problem occurs it will go on for some time and sometimes eventualy starts playing normal.  When the video is playing normally the audio sounds fine.  When I play the videos in a regular media player (like VLC) they play and sound fine.  Also if I use an mp3 audio channel I don't see the jittering
Does anyone have any idea what the cause of this problem might be or how it can be resolved?

Ah, yes, I am not serving high-def video myself. H264 is probably better, but my understanding is that you need hardware acceleration to get good performance from it (again, not an expert on the topic, that's just what my understanding has been...)
This document [pdf] may have some usefull info on choosing an optimal encoding for your needs.

  • MacBook pro 330m freezing randomly during 3d intensive games

I have a 2010 2.4ghz 15" Core i5 MacBook pro with the high res screen. Recently I noticed that the MBP may randomly freeze when 3D games are run under bootcamp. By random I mean ranging from 30 min to 2 hours into the game. The screen would distort into vertical lines and a buzzing/static noise could be heard coming from the speakers. However, I've also noticed that while the keyboard and mouse seem unresponsive, Skype calls would sometimes still be audible and connected despite the rest of the system freezing. I have yet to experience this in OS X as I rarely play any 3d game in OS X. I have updated both the OSX and Windows drivers to the latest version. The problem is persistent and happened in star craft 2 and red alert 3. What seems to be causing this?

Timothy I'd recommend reposting in the Boot Camp forum as that seems to be where the issue is occurring.
It also seems like you might be having issues with Skype too, are you using that in Windows or OS X? Again if the issue is occurring in Windows the Boot Camp forum is probably where you want to start or even in forums that are specific to Skype.

  • Macbook Pro Get's Hot During GamePlay + Video Watching

I'm new to mac's, so sorry if this may sound new to anyone. I recently purchased a new MBP 2011 edition, 13in, 2.7ghz with 8gb of ram.
I downloaded Steam and the game Counter Strike, I noticed that the computer started to get very hot after a few minutes of playing. A friend told me to download the iStat Pro widget so i could see what the temperature of the computer was. The CPU gets up to around 200F, that's the highest temp that i've seen it get to. During gameplay, there is no lag, it's smooth as butter, but the CPU temp hovers around 196F. This is while it's on a cooling pad (with a fan) an propped up a few inches off the table.
I've talked to a Genius at the GeniusBar in the Apple store and he said that it was sort of normal and that MBP's usually run hot, I also read some articles about the new i7 Processor witih folks having similar issues. My only worry is that I'm ruining my brand new MBP and the processors inside. As relating to the title, when watching Vimeo and having a few programs open, the comp is running at about 185F.
Are others having a similar problem to this? If so how are you dealing with it and is it normal? Will these high temps harm the life of the processor? I have to use this thing all through college (starting in a few months) and I would just like to make sure that I'm not doing anything to harm it.
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi NyJeff,
Those temperatures sound very normal for the i7 architecture in the littler 13" package. Keep in mind, that there's only one fan in that unit, not two fans like on the 15" & 17" units. Having the cooling pad will definitely help when gaming. The heat sinks and fan are designed to protect the hardware, in addition you'd be amazed how long the hardware will last even when constantly exposed to those sorts of temperatures.

  • Online Video Streaming was fine... until new OS update 10.2 (or before) causing lag

    Here is the scenario:
I've had my z10 shortly after it's launch in Hong Kong, and aside from a few minor tweaks, it worked brilliantly.
I had all my email accounts, whatsapp, and was using it very heavily during working hours.
After work, i go home, and I watch movies streamed online from the z10, and HDMI it to the TV.
I'm not after top-quality viewing, but it's basically good enough to catch the movies that are not worth paying to see.
anyhow, all if fine until for the past 2 months (and I believe it was after an update) i am encountering a lag on the streaming component.
testing to see if it may be the bandwith problem, i try to load a short 5-10min youtube clip, and same result.
the sound is fine, and continuous, however, the videos itself plays for 10-15 secs, then freezes, while the sound continues.
The video then starts playing again, but jumps ahead to stay in-sync with the sound.
Is anyone else encountering this problem???
    Please help....

    Good day

  • HT204380 FaceTime issues-Freezing or stoping the video streaming...

    Hi All,
My FaceTime in my iPad air2,Macbook pro and in iphone5s is not working properly. It is freezing saying for poor connection after some time of video starts, but audio during the call is un interrupted. Pls help!!!
This problem started from last month. I have went through preliminary troubleshooting procedure that mentioned in the apple support page but my problem seems not solved. can some one say what can i do to make FT working properly?
    thanks for advice.
    regards

        99mustang232,
Good morning! I love using the FaceTime on my iPad, so I know this would be a bummer! Is this still an issue for you? Beyond turning FaceTime off/on and rebooting, it may be best to contact Apple for support. If the WiFi a consistent high-speed connection? Does this happen on more than one WiFi network? Keep me posted so I can continue to help.

  • Online video streaming choppy, slow. why?!

I recently upgraded to 10.5 for ipod functionality and better online streaming and I'm noticing that sometimes video still streams really really choppy. I'm using Firefox 3.5.7, have all the Sofwate Updates installed and still it's choppy.
I have a fast broadband connection and 1.5gbs of RAM, shouldn't be having a problem still. What's going on?
I was just trying to stream the Daily Show for example and it was Frozen Image -pause- frozen image - pause. VERY choppy and slow. Also, it totally slowed down the rest of my computer. There's no way my computer is too slow for that, it runs great when I'm running far more CPU intensive programs like audio editing, photoshop, etc.
Can someone tell me what the deal is?
    Thanks.

Usually within the download of the flash player there is an uninstaller.
Or in the site it came from. And on the Adobe site is a page where it
can check your computer's system to see which version is running.
Same for shockwave. Either the uninstaller is with the download item
in a folder when the package is opened, or it is separate. Somehow
when I downloaded & upgraded both of these players I ended up with
their Uninstallers, too. Some player downloads are larger in size.
Also, I downloaded Flip4Mac's WMV player, the free basic version.
Somewhere, I have VLC player and a few others. They can help.
With new Adobe players, some things do improve. High-end HD video
does require other support in rendering, to include better hardware.
In a few cases, if some video can be paused and it loads in the back-
ground awhile, when it resumes it may be a little better even in a G4.
Firefox will sometimes provide a dialog box, saying it found an older
version and asks if you want to proceed & replace it, on install. Or
you'll end up with two in the Applications folder and the icon on the
Dock will keep on running the older one it finds first. You can check
to see what's there and the date/version of it. Trash older ones. All
the bookmarks are in another location.
    There was a good deal on MacBooks in the Apple Store's special deals;
    and a fairly good 21.5" iMac. Those deals sometimes are great finds;
unlike places who 'fix used computers' these include a basic AppleCare
plan and have current software, too. - +{Had I not bought a used clunker+
+car two years ago, I could have bought 4 Macs in lemon repairs alone.+
+Yet they tell me things could be worse, I could be living in the clunker!}+
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • What does it mean when online video streaming becomes pixalated?

Lately my iMac has a problem streaming video content from online sources, the picture is badly pixilated and the audio is also off sync?

Compare it to other sources.  Maybe it is just that particular source.

  • Exporting project for Utube, online video streaming

obviously i need to take a class in this subject...soo many options now for streaming.
on U-tube i'll see videos posted that look so smooth, not so pixley as mine.....
i eventually started posting most of my clips on mypace, with their video players being smoother, more 'natural'. i'm aware that u-tube uses a kind of Flash program that makes theirs play in the way they do....but some folks have obviously learned how to post clips (usually being professionals and major studios backing them) and look just dandy.
    suggestions??
(and if i should post under the discussion topic of "Compressor" let me know.)

I know this type of question gets asked often so you might try a search here.
    EXPORT FOR YOUTUBE or similar.
And remember that those studio clips that look so good started out on 35 film looking much better than what you likely started out with.
