MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009) black screen and reset smc

My new macbook will not start occasionally, there is a black screen after the boot sound and screen with apple and wheel, in black screen i can hear the sounds changing the volume level, but the only way to work is forcing the shutdown and restart until the mac start normal.
I also wanted to ask how reset the SMC whith new mac book (i can't remove battery) there are not articles on the support site.
Sorry for the language but not speak English very well

You are correct that the SMC reset procedure is slightly different from earlier MacBooks...

your instructions are toward the bottom....same as a Macbbok Pro or the Air..

  • MacBook Pro 17" late 2009 - Black screen on boot, not even a grey screen

    Got a monstrous problem.
Started up my MacBook Pro (bought in Feb. This year, core 2 duo 2.88GHz/4 Gb RAM - basically the top specced model.)
Booted up today, no grey start-up screen. No screen at all. Yet I can still log into Snow Leopard, but again no screen. Rebooted into boot camp, heard windows start. Managed to log in again no screen. Volume controls, keyboard illumination work. Just a black screen.
I have tried resetting PRAM, etc. with no success. Cannot use hardware test as the screen simply does not start.
Any ideas before I throw the effing thing from a 5th floor window in frustration?
Is this the Nvidia problem other folk have experienced?
I am tempted to ask for a new machine spending 2 months on and off with my previous MacBook Pro in and out of repair if this is a hardware problem that has been fixed in recent Macs.
    Regards,
    J

I had the same problem just now. My 15" MBP (6.2). I followed the following steps and it worked for me. I used another Mac in my house to use screen sharing to accomplish these things:
    1) access the /private/var/vm/ directory on the nonworking computer from the working computer. This is invisble so you will have to press cmdshiftg in the finder and go to /volumes/YOURHARDDISKNAME/private/var/vm to get there or use an application that lets you view invisble folders like PathFinder.
    2) delete the sleepimage file
    3) delete the /system/library/extensions.mkext file
    4) eject the drive (drag to the trash)
    5) press the power button to turn off the non working computer
    6) turn the nonworking computer back on normally(cross your fingers) then if it works,
    7) open up the the terminal.app in /applications/utilities
    8) type sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
    9) make sure there is no sleepimage file again
That worked for me...hope it helps for you!

The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.
To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

  • I have a Macbook 13-inch, Late 2009 I'm running 10.8 Mountain Lion. iWork '09 will not work, how can I fix that without purchasing new programs from the App Store?

    Help! 911! S.O.S.

Update iWork to Mountain Lion compatible versions.
Software Update is now operated therough the Mac App Store. I'm guessing that you have a version not purchased through the Mac App Store, but on DVD?
If so, take a look at this thread. It's important to have the apps in the original folder. More details in the thread.

I have a MacBook 13 inch (Late 2008) with OS X 10.6.8 installed and every time I try to install Yosemite it tells me it cannot be updated on my MacBook. Why?

Because the minimum requirement, as stated it the Yosemite specs, is for a Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook.
MacBook – Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009
    MacBook Air – Late 2008

  • Macbook Air 3.1 (late 2010) black screen after 10.9.4 update

    Macbook Air3.1
    MBA31.0061.B07
    SMC 1.67f10
A few days ago has updated Mavericks to 10.9.4 and started having problems with the screen. During use is - not in sleep mode - the screen suddenly goes black. Sounds (Volume), keyboard (Caps lock indicator) work. When connecting an external monitor too, everything is OK - but in the settings of the monitor's no built-in display-only external. Rebooting doesn't help. Reset SMC and NVRAM/PRAM helps in one case out of 10. Can work, but maybe not. The last tool that has helped is to boot in Safe mode (Shift+Power) and then restart.
What could be the problem? Hardware (graphic card, controllers etc.) or this is a software problem? 10.9.4 update? EFI? Read about problems with MBA 2013 with a black screen and Mavericks 10.9.4, but I have a MBA 2010.

    Hi d.e.v.a,

You have already done many of them, but a few remain.

I had once got it replaced for free but in warranty. As i read some where in the support that apple had agreed with the defect and had decided to replace the bottom covers without any charge. Hi,
Here's the Bottom Case Replacement Link

It doesn't answer your specific questions about cost... but it does advise to contact an Apple Store or an AASP...
Anyway have a look at it... if you haven't already..

  • MacBook Pro bought in August 2013 Black Screen and Can't See the Cursor

I took the OSX update in the beginning of November and now when I lift up the lid of the notebook and press 'on' I get a black screen and can't even see the cursor.  I've tried pressing command + control + p + r.  I've also tried command + s.  Neither seems to fix this issue.  Are there any other suggestions to try?  Thanks in advance.

  • MacBook Pro won't boot - stays on black screen and beeps every few seconds

    Hi,
My MacBook Pro has been having issues - when powered on wont boot past the white screen and more recently will just stay on black screen and beeps every 5 seconds. I had someone look at it and it seems apparently the motherboard is the problem
and either needs fixing or replacing. As I am traveling in Nicaragua the closest apple store is in Managua (capital). Would I be able to get the motherboard looked at and replaced if need be at this apple store? Also, does anyone know the approximate price for the motherboard to be replaced? Up until a few days ago the laptop was still turning on and working every now and then but now stays on black screen and beeps.
Any advice would be very helpful!
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It means that your Mac's memory is damaged > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2538?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
First, replace the memory modules. You can buy more memory at OWC or Crucial. It can also be replace by a reseller.
If it doesn't work, the RAM slots are damaged, so your logic board has to be replaced. It costs more than a half of the price of your MacBook
