MacBook 2,1 Core 2 Duo (2006) Will Not Charge Nor Recognize The Batter

I currently have a MacBook 2,1 Core 2 Duo from 2006. I have an issue with the battery not being recognized, not charging, and it being at "0%". I have tried doing an SMC Reset twice. It did not help with this battery issue. From what I understand, quite a bit of people are having this issue but I haven't seen one that was not solved by an SMC.

Hi wadesie,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communites.
I found two articles that should be of use for you to sort out why your computer is not recognizing the battery. The first is general battery troubeshooting.
Mac notebooks: All about batteries - Apple Support
Regarding not recognizing the battery it says:
My battery is not recognized
If the battery in your MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro is fully drained of power, the battery will put itself into a low power state to preserve its ability to charge in the future. Connect your Mac Notebook to AC power and allow it to charge for at least five minutes. If the connect to power screen persists after charging for five minutes, reset the SMC.
The next article provides instruction on resetting the SMC.

  • My Ipod will not charge or recognize synch cable

When I plug the synch cable into the Ipod touch it will not charge or recognize the synch cable has been plugged into the computer.
I have tried multiple cables and they all work with other Ipods of varying generation and age.

if it turns on try to force it into recovery like this (you will not be able to back up your data it will all be lost if ih is not already backed up.)
    to get into recovery mode:
    plug it into you pc
turn the device off and then hold the power and home button at the same time until itunes detects it a an ipod that needs to be restored.

  • I have had my macbook pro for 3 days, and it will not charge.  I tried several differnt outlets, tried cleaning and wiggling the magnet charger, still nothing.  Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions?

You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your MBP.  Personally, I would not waste my time "troubleshooting" if the normal solutions do not work.
Return the MBP for one that works before your 14 days are up and/or call AppleCare ASAP!!!
    Good luck!

  • MacBook pro will not charge even when the charger is plugged in and working

So this is a strange one.
I have been using my MacBook pro for a lot of film editing and motion graphics. Recently, I noticed that my battery kept going down, even when charging. I thought nothing on it and kept using it. After around 4 hours, the battery went from 90% to 23% WHILE plugged in. This got me nervous. When I plug in the MagSafe charger, the light comes on and I get the "charging" symbol in my toolbar. The light turns orange and then, after a few minutes, the power starts to go down instead of up.
I have had this laptop since Christmas 2012 and this has never happened before. The laptop does charge, but only when I am running no application, when the screen is shut or when the laptop is powered off. Bear in mind that right now, I am on Firefox, that is the only application open, yet the charge is still going down. I assumed it was because I was using Premiere CS6, After Effects CS6 and Cinema4D, but now even when they are not open, the batter will not charge when I am using the laptop.
What is going on? Is in the charger? Any help would be greatly appreciated and I am starting to stress!
    Thank you everyone for reading,
    -Rory Campbell
UPDATE: I am currently only running Firefox and Finder. Now the laptop is charging as usual. However the second I open up Premiere, After Effects etc, it goes down. I have no idea what is going on!

Try resetting the PRAM and SMC. If you don't know how to, don't worry. They're very easy to reset. Just google how to do it. If that doesn't work, the only thing I would suggest is to take both the laptop and the charger to your local genius bar to have them examined. If it's less than a year old, apple should replace whatever is wrong with it as long as it was a factory defect.

  • Iphone 4 will not charge anymore from the car stereo

Ever since I have updated to iOS5 my IPhone 4 will not charge via the car stereo connection. It worked fine before this but now no charge. I am using a scosche adaptor that was recommended by the nice people in my local Apple store but the IPhone has stopped charging.
I use my IPhone a lot as a sat-nav and find that when I get to my destination there is little or no power left in the battery.
    Any ideas?

Check the bottom of the iPhone and make sure there is no lint or debris on the connector that the power/sync cord attaches to.  Also with a very low battery, you may have to let the iPhone charge several minutes before you get any indications. If none of the above solves the problem, try another cable.  You might also want to try a car charger if you've got one.

  • Core 2 Duo Firewire will not power up Fireface 400 audio device

I recently replaced my MacBook Pro Core Duo 15" by a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 15".
The Core 2 Duo does not power up nor recognize my FireFace 400 ( www.rme-audio.com/english/firewire/ff400.htm ) wether plugged in the firewire 400 or 800.
I went to a Mac Store to check if the problem was with my Mac. It turns out that the same problem occurs with all MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 15" and 17" in the store.
According to the tech. at apple store, it has to do with the firewire chip set, and that they can't do anything about incompatibility with the fireface 400...
Are you aware of this problem and is there a workaround.
    Thanks

I haven't tried with a voltage meter, however I have tried with another known working power brick from the same model Mini and it still doesn't work. We bought two of these for the household when they came out, which has helped with troubleshooting.

  • My iPhone 5 will not charge due to the internal jack.

I have an iPhone 5. There is nothing wrong with the battery, and this problem exists with four different charging cables and sources that I use: bed stand (wall outlet), computer (iMac), car, office (wall outlet).
These same cables and locations all charge my other 3 lighting connector devices just fine.
When I plug a charging cable into the phone's charging jack, the phone may not recognize the cable. If I turn the cable a little, it will, almost as if there's a short in the cable, but it does this with every cable, and they are all in splendid shape. So the phone will go back and forth from indicating that it is plugged in back to indicating that it is not. This used to just happen when the phone/cable were wiggled or moved after being plugged in. Now the phone will sit there perfectly still and go back and forth from thinking it's connected to not thinking its connected. It sounds like my phone is blowing up with text messages, but it's just the charging indicator coming on and off at random.
With the old iphone 4 style charging plug, there was a youtube video which explained how to clean out the charging jack if this happened, using a qtip and some alcohol. So I did the same thing with my iPhone 5, although, I had to modify the qtip for size since the jack is so small. I was pretty thorough, but when I turned the phone back on, it continued the same behavior. I'm not due for an upgrade until September and my phone is no longer under warranty.
Do you have any advice for how I can fix this problem at low cost?

The problem could be that you don't have enough storage on the device itself, not on iCloud.  Go to Settings>General>Usage to see how much "Storage" you have available on the device.  Farther down the list is the available storage on iCloud.
    Also check:
Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage; there, tap the device you need info on and the resulting screen lists Backup Options with which apps store data on iCloud as well.  Tap Show All Apps to get the complete list of apps and MB used for backup storage.
A device needs many MB of storage in order to perform a backup to iCloud.

  • My iPod touch 3g will not charge nor will it connect to the computer.

It won't charge at all. I have no idea how it's still on but for now it is even though it's been saying the battery is less the 20%. It's not the usb adapter/cable, I've tried many. My laptop nor desktop will even acknowledge it at all. I've done resets numerous times and still nothing. I don't know if this means the battery needs to be replaced or not because like I said the iPod is still on after days of not being able to charge.Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I forgot to mention the iPod will play on my dock but not charge. I took it in today and it's no longer under warranty so they only offered to take it and give me 10% off a new one.
    Thanks anyway!

  • My iPad 5 will not charge, I get the message " CHARGING IS NOT SUPPORTED WITH THIS DEVICE

I get the message " CHARGING IS NOT SUPPORTED WITH THIS DEVICE. I've checked different cables and chargers ( from our other iPad 5, and cleaned the port, but it won't charge plugged into the computer or ghargers.

If charging will not work with valid cables and chargers and the Lightning port is clear, there is likely a hardware issue.  Take the iPad to an Apple store genius bar and have it tested by the techs.

  • My ipod WILL NOT charge nor turn on

I have an ipod touch 2nd generation that I lost months ago. I found it Wednesday completely dead so I tried charging it for a few hours. I saw that my ipod didn't even charge! I tried pressing the home and the sleep/wake button at the same time but nothing. The apple logo didn't appear, so I took it to a repair shop and they said that the circuts have been shorted out from water damage but the sticker in the headphone jack is still white. All they did was see if it could charge just like I did. What can I do to fix my ipod?

    Dear lenore_phila
Similarily, iWashed my daughter's iPod in the washing machine! ithought iWas dead...however, iJust let it sit in a warm dry atmosphere for about a week, iLet it "dry out" so to speak, iThen hooked it up to the iTunes as usual and lo and behold it worked just fine. iDo not however, recommend trying to use it before you let it dry out, just let the battery die out fully, then like iSaid, hook it up and charge it, hopefully yours will have the same charmed luck that mine did and work as usual, in fact, you'd never even know that it ever went through the washer. iDid however think that it was done, so iHad to go out and buy her another one, therefore iAm the proud owner of my own iPod nano now, as we now have three of them....Hope this advice works for you
