MacBook 2.2ghz ( Santa Rosa ) SuperDrive not reading PlayStation CD's
I've tried about 5 different PS1 CD's and it just ejects them after 1 minute failing to read them?
This occurs in OS X and Vista.
All other types of optical media I've tried seems to work.
Any ideas?

To the best of my knowledge these discs are not compatible with your MacBook's SuperDrive. The technical specifications for the SuperDrive are:
8x DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-ROM; 6x DVD-ROM (double layer DVD-9), DVD-R DL (double layer), DVD+R DL (double layer), DVD-RW, and DVD+RW; 24x CD
However the filesystem used by the PS is not a standard readable format.

I have the 2008 macbook pro 15" (Santa Rosa). After my upgrade to mac os x lion (10.8.2), I noticed that periodically the screen either turns to weird display color and have horizontal lines on screen. This happens mostly during start up and lasts for about a min or two. Does this happen because of a faulty graphics card? I have NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB card on this macbook pro. Please advice
Nope - it sounds as if you've GPU issues and the discrete GPU is soldered onto the logic board. take your new machine into your local Apple Store for a replacement. Don't wait too long!

Still no fix for superdrive not reading any disc at all?
I've searched through the forum and it seems like there's still no solution for the superdrive not reading any sort disc at all. I have had this imac for almost a month. I rarely have used the superdrive but was trying to play a normal audio cd tonight and upon further investigation found that the drive is not reading any type of disc.
If a disc is loaded, the drive whirs/beeps 4-5 times while trying to read the disc and then ejects it. this happens for dvd movies, audio cds, osx install disc, etc.
I did successfully play and rip some cds a few weeks ago when the imac was first purchased. I have not inserted discs often enough in the past to substantiate that upgrading to 10.4.5 or 10.4.6 affected the drive's performance.
Think I need a new drive or could this be software related?

My computer is less than 2 years old, purchased brand spankin' new, w/o the warrantee - but hey when you pay that much for your 'puter it should not break down at ANY time during (at least) the first 5 years, unless gross negligence and disregard is involved (which is is not).
I would not categorize myself as being in the 'high usage' category for burning either dvd's or cd's, but here I am less than 2 yrs after purchase w/ a superdrive that can't even read a store-bought cd, and oddly enough the problems I am having DO seem to coincide w/ download of a 'security update.'

I would like, at the very least, a helpful suggestion from someone working for Apple - if not an acknowledgement of an actual issue with a faulty (expensive) product.
A guarantee of satisfaction with a purchase should not be wrapped up in purchase of a service plan - good customer service is good policy, and should be provided as a means of standing behind the quality of a product you both sell, and believe in.
There is no good reason why my computer should be broken, and there is no good reason why it shouldn't be fixed - and I see a lot of you have even more reason for complaint than I do. It is irksome in the extreme that this issue seems not to warrant the attention from anyone who can make a difference to our plight.
One would think that a drop-down menu on an official web-site would have a better response rate from affiliated 'professionals' - but we all know the old adage about assuming...
Hey - maybe customer service really is dead - and I might believe that if it weren't for the fact that I respond, personally, to customer e-mails on a daily basis...

MacBook Pro - with Santa Rosa - Kernel Panics
The local Apple store has replaced my new Santa Rosa MacBook Pro once already and when I received the machine, I did a brand new install and then transferred my files over. They told me that if I still get Kernel Panics on this second machine to go ahead and do an Archive and Install or Full Install option.
Until Time Machine is out, what is the best backup method for keeping all files and settings if you want to do a complete new install and format?
Does anyone think a brand new install will fix this? Also, this machine is getting a lot less KP's than the previous Santa Rosa MBP got. Any ideas why?

I got a similar problem with my MacBook Pro. Kernel panic with Airport atheros driver. My router is Linksys WRT300n. A brand new install didn't fix the problem. This is the panic.log of the most recent KP.

I have no answer from my Apple resellers in France. Alone in the dark :'-(

Superdrive not reading older DVDs since Lion
Have a 2009 Mac Pro, just updated to Lion. The installed Superdrive spins and nothing gets mounted. In order to eject, I have to shutdown, and catch it when I start again, by hitting the keyboard eject button.
The particular DVD is a transfer from VHS tape made years ago. It plays in normal DVD or Bluray players. It just hangs the Superdrive.
I have tried a commercial DVD in my Superdrive and it works just fine.
Any thoughts?

NelsonI'm having similar problems too since upgrading. I would insert a dvd and sometimes it does not mount. I can't even eject it. Disk utility can't see it either. To get the disk out I have to restart it then is on the desktop and it fuctions as normal. I'm pretty sure it's not the drive as I've never seen this on SL.

I have a DVD with a bunch of home movies on it. When I put the DVD into my MAcBook Pro so it would burn to my computer, nothing appeared. It made a lot of noise but nothing happend to the screen. I need help!!
Try the DVD on a console DVD player or another computer. If plays, your super drive may need replacing. Just trying to diagnose what's not working

SuperDrive not reading any DVDs or CDs
My Matshita UJ-857E (ZA0E) SuperDrive died on me....
It now does not accept any CDs or DVDs and instead just spits them back out a few seconds after putting them in the slot.
Running Leopard 10.5.5 on MBP (Aug. 2007)...
I really need to use the drive.
I am out of warranty and am prepared to purchase a new drive if required, but want to leave that as the last option. Any hints as to fixing the drive will be greatly appreciated. (I guess ruining the drive by doing something stupid is not a problem... it's already ruined!)

A viable option is an external drive, such as made by LaCie. I bought a FireWire drive a few years ago and it's still a useful spare. Getting a new drive fitted inside your MB now it's out of warranty will probably be very expensive.

my MacBoo Pro 17" Intel Core 2 Duo 2,4GHz under SL 10.6.5 seems to be able to boot in 64 bits, so I edited the com.Apple.boot.plist in order to do so. I rebooted fine but as I'm going to Informations System, it shows that the Kernel didn't boot in 64-bits as you can see on the image below:

I Tried the Kernel Startup Mode Selector (from http://www.ahatfullofsky.comuv.com/English/Programs/SMS/SMS.html) and after rebooting it shows that I rebooted in 32-bits mode althought it sais the computer was able to boot in 64-bits mode.
As I look in Hardware info panel (http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/1363/hardwareinfo.jpg), my requirements are ok, but I cant' understand why it still boot under 32-bits mode.

Problem with New Macbook 2.2ghz and 2x2gb Sodimm Ram 800mhz
Hi..I bought the newest Macbook white 2.2ghz Santa Rosa and I wanted to upgrade default ram up to 4 gb 800mhz.
I bought 2 Sodimm Adata..I tried to put them toghether inside my macbook and it doesn't boot.I click power button but it only turns on sleep led.
So I tried to put one new ram with an old 512mb ram and macbook works well with 2.5gb at 667 mhz.
I thought one new ram was difected and I tried to put the other new 2gb ram instead the other one and macbook works fine againg at 2.5gb 667mhz.
Why the newest macbook doesn't work with 2x2gb Sodimm 800mhz?Anyone had the same problem?It's not fault of new sodimm rams..i'm sure it's is macbook!

Didn't even try it out besides seeing if the configurations were recognized. Frankly I don't think there's much of a difference between 2GB and 4GB unless there are tons of open applications.
I'll buy this ram..do you think they'll work fine in my Santa Rosa mb?

Some people have said to stay away from their ValueRAM series because the long term reliability might not be as good. Of course they have a "lifetime warranty" but that means going through the trouble of getting it replaced. -
Fn + delete, other shortcuts not working with new Santa Rosa Macbooks?
I recently received a brand new Macbook (Santa Rosa platform) as a replacement for my defunct old Macbook (which was the previous generation). I've noticed in bootcamp, Fn+Delete no longer serves as a shortcut for the Del key in windows. Nor does Fn+Up or Fn+Down serve as PgUp, PgDn respectively. Is this intentional, or something that I can get a fix for?
I don't know if my solution will help everyone else, but I am using BootCamp 1.4b and recently reformatted my Windows drive. I had the Mac drivers for this backed up on my Windows PC and I used my PC to burn them to disk. After troubleshooting the problem described above for many hours (or at least one with the same symptoms), I found that the keyboard driver on my cd was corrupt (stupid CD-RWs never work right.) Since I had my ethernet up and running at that point, I was able to use the Windows on my Mac to pull the drivers off my network share and then I deleted the Human Interface Devices as described above and then reran the Mac driver setup program. After I restarted, everything worked fine.
WARNING: Make sure you can do everything you need to do using only the mouse since the keyboard will not function at all after deleting the devices. -
Design Limitation On ALL Santa Rosa MacBook Pros, 2.2 and 2.4 GHz
While searching the Internet for answers to my new $2500.00 MBP headphone (output jack) has audible hissing sounds I found several posts on Macrumors.com and macintouch.com to explain the design Limitation/Problem. To summarize:
The Problem
The issue has three components, as described in this MacinTouch Report:
- A low hiss that is constant whenever the audio circuitry is on
- Static that occurs whenever anything is playing... even something quiet.
- A series of high-pitched noises that occur somewhat randomly. The best comparison I've seen is that it's like listening to those hearing tests where you raise your hand when you hear a tone.
The problem only occurs with low-impedance headphones (more on this below).
Some Facts
- The problem occurs on ALL Santa Rosa MacBook Pros, 2.2 and 2.4 GHz. It is a design flaw on Apple's part, and returning your machine for a new one will not help. There are plenty of people who say they can't hear the noise, but those people either have high-impedance headphones or speakers, or just don't have very good hearing.
- Only Santa Rosa MacBook Pros seem to be affected by this particular static problem. I've seen some reports of other machines having audio issues, but they are always different.
- The 'Audio Update 2007-001' that Apple released about two weeks ago doesn't fix it. It does fix a popping problem on all Intel Macs (including the SR MBPs), so it's worth installing, but that is a different problem than this one.
- It does seem to be an Apple-specific problem; I've been unable to find any other reports of non-Apple Santa Rosa notebooks having the same problem.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with their new MBP?

BI experience the issue as well both in OS X and when I'm in Windows Vista.
Whenever a program uses audio, there is an annoying high-pitched hissing noise from the built-in speakers.
Of course the severity of the problem depends on the individual hearing ability, but everyone I have asked, have been able to hear the noise.
Apple is known to be the first choice of audio professionals; however this problem is below that standard. -
I have to input a password to log in to my Macbook Pro Santa Rosa under Mountain Lion. Now suddenly the built-in keyboard doesn't work at all so I cannot use my computer. I also notice that the bluetooth function is activated automatically even though I turn it off. It looks for an external keyboard. Please help me out. Many thanks!
I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2. My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone). I was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.

everyone whats going on???MBP Santa Rosa 17", now four days old, officially. Forgot completely about all the wireless/networking problems cited here, and, therefore, just joined my household network (LinkSys) Wednesday afternoon without thinking.
Everything went perfectly.
Took said MBP to another location this weekend (wi-fi'd marina), again forgetting about the potential problem joining that setup . . . but no difficulty again.
Hope I'm not the exception. LOVE THE NEW MACHINE thus far: no display problems, no wi-fi problems, no kernal crashes, no nothing. Fingers crossed and smile on mouth! -
MacBook Pro 3,1 "Mid 2007" (Santa Rosa) Ledbelly Crash
I've installed 10.10.1 on a MacBook Pro 3,1 "Mid 2007" (Santa Rosa).
All goes fine, until I try to turn OFF WiFi:
Then the whole system locks up and spontaneously reboots.
Console.log shows this right before the crash:

This crash is 100% reproducible.

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Identifying a Santa Rosa MacBook

I plan on buying a blackbook in the next couple of days from an Apple Reseller (military exchange store). ITs the same price as the one on the Apple website, but I want to make sure the mac I get is the most recent...and the one that their shipping directly from Apple.
Are there any was of telling if it is in fact a Santa Rosa macbook? It does come with Leopard, I know that much.
