Macbook 2008 and connecting to Sony Bravia-help needed!

I have a macbook 2008 (early) and wanted to hook it up to watch on my sony bravia tv.  I have been told to get a mini DVI to hdmi and then an hdmi cable.  Is this correct and is there anyway to get sound other than purchasing another audio cable?

Ok, based on your photo, it's a bit blurry, it looks like your TV comes with a VGA + Audio input AND HDMI + Audio input, so you get to choose which one you want to use.
How to connect:
VGA + Audio (Red)
Video - A Mini-DVI - VGA adaptor, with VGA cable to TV.
Audio - Computer headphone outlet to the Audio input, using a 3.5mm male to male stereo cable. (it looks like a 3.5mm socket on the TV, confirm on site)
HDMI + Audio (Yellow)
Video - A Mini-DVI - HDMI adaptor, with HDMI cable to TV
Audio - Computer headphone outlet to the Audio IN, using a 3.5mm male to RCA male (red/white connectors) stereo cable.
No surround sound option here, as I cannot se a TOS Link input
Which is better?
Your computer puts out a digital signal via the DVI, so HDMI is probably the better option. you will get a higher resolution to the TV, better for movies. Some say the VGA option is better, if you are going to use it for text.
I mentioned earlier that you may get some audio sync issues using HDMI. That was probably more likely when I was thinking that you were going to need to use an adaptor to add the audio to the HDMI cable. As yours can be kept separate to the TV, it probably won't be as much of an issue.

Can I connect 2 sony bravia's, a sony home theatre, 2 macbooks, 2 ipads, 3 iphones and a dell laptop and stream media from my apple devices to my tv? I have a sony bravia 600 series and 700 series and a home theatre( sony 7100 series)

The only way to stream directly to your TV would be if it is an AirPlay-enabled device.
There are many AirPlay-enabled devices but I am not familiar with Sony's products. If yours do not specifically indicate AirPlay capability, then you need an AirPlay-enabled device such as an AppleTV connected to your Sony TV or Sony AVR.

  • How to connect a Sony Bravia TV to the internet through your Airport network

Since it took me a lot of time to figure out how to connect my Sony Bravia TV to the internet through my Airport network, I better share how to do it. Hopefully saving others a lot of time.
My 32EX600 Sony Bravia TV is Ethernet connected to my Mac Mini, which is part of my Airport network, together with another Mac, an Airport Extreme Base Station and an ADSL modem/router. Moreover, the Mac Mini is connected to the TV by HDMI.
Whatever I tried in the TV’s Wired Network Set-up (Auto, or Manual with manual IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS IPs), I couldn’t get it right. Cable Connection and Local Access were mostly OK, Internet Access always Failed.
The solution lies in the Sharing panel of the System Preferences of the Mac Mini. In the Internet Sharing item of that panel, you should choose to “share your internet connection from WiFi to computers (the TV in this case) using Ethernet“, and NOT (as I had chosen before and seemed so obvious) “share your internet connection from Airport to computers using Ethernet“. After that change, the Bravia Network Set-up, using the Wired and Auto options, flawlessly connected to the internet. No expensive (Sony) WiFi USB dongle needed.

I have now had a detailed reply from Sony Europe and the way to do this is to:
    1.       Press Home on the TV Setup
    2.       Use the right and left arrow to select Setting.
    3.       Use the up and down to select Network, press Enter.
    4.       Select Network Setup.
    5.       Select Wireless setup.
    6.       Select Scan
    7.       Select your network
    8.       A new screen will appear asking for entering the security key.
    9.       Enter your WPA2 key.
    10.   Select Enter.
    11.   It will take you back to the same screen asking for entering the
    security key.
    12.   Press the right arrow.
    13.   Select Auto.
    14.   Press the right arrow.
    15.   Select Save and connect.
These instructions are not the same as shown on the TV but they worked fine for me so they may help others with a similar problem.

  • How do connect my sony bravia tv as a monitor screen for mac pro

How do I connect my Sony Bravia tv as a monitor for my MacBook Pro? I have an hdmi lead with an adapter to the computer and get a picture of factory setting cosmos with some of the folders of my desktop going off the side of the tv screen.

If you have the right cable, and have set the right input on your Sony, then you need to adjust one thing.  Go to System Preferences>Displays>Set Mirroring.  I think you've got it set to Extended desktop, which means the Sony is just a HUGE extension of your Mac OSX desktop.
    That should fix your issue.

  • Cant connect my Sony Bravia to my mac.

I'm having trouble connecting my sony bravia tv (KDL-32BX300) to my mac. I have tried pretty much everything and have used the cable on other tv's with my mac anyone have any idea what the problem is? My mac can't find the tv at all.
    Any help would be great

    According this: https://docs.sony.com/release/specs/KDL32BX300_mksp.pdf
That Tv is not a full HD TV, only 720p and as such may not be able to support the Mac's full resolution.
You may need to lower the resolution on the Mac to get it to work. According to the specs, this is its maximum resolution: 1366 X 768p
Depending on which adapter you are using may also be hat resolution you get. HDMI outputs at 1080p by default which your TV cannot support.

Where do I continue; I have a '07 Macbook Pro, and would truly appreciate your help as I have freshly installed my osx beginning with my original 10.4
    Thank you
    PS
I should mention; for reasons unknown to me, I no longer have use of my disk drive since reinstalling 10.4.

You can use software update to install the latest version of Tiger.  If you connect an external DVD drive you can install an upgrade to Snow Leopard.  The disk is available at the Apple online store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Further upgrades are dependent upon the EXACT model of your MBP.
    Ciao.

Hold Sleep and Home buttons for 10 seconds until your device restarts, so you will be able to use your device again. Finally, open Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup, and make a backup. The device will be backed up when it's plugged to the charger and connected to your network

  • Macbook Pro connection to Sony Bravia LCD Color TV

I have a macbook pro and I'm trying to connect it a Sony Bravia LCD Color Television. The macbook detects the sony tv and brings up a dialogue box about it. However, on the tv it says no signal. Anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening?

I had the same problem with a 1080i Bravia Sony and a MacBook Pro connected with a DVI-HDMI lead - it turned out to be a very simple solution - you have to make sure you are looking at the right AV channel on the TV. The mapping of AV1-6 to the ports on the back is not obvious at all (in this case it was AV4 that was the correct AV port). The Bravia also has the option to skip AV channels if desired - so if in the preferences you have disabled ports then you need to make them available to skip through.
The picture is very sharp indeed with a DVI-HDMI lead - far far superior to a vanilla SVGA cable. Sound is automatically selected from an analogue input (2xphono) on one of the HDMI ports so make sure you select the right one on the back.
(p.s. just to emphasize - the DVI-HDMI does not map to the 'PC' port it is another AV channel)

  • RE: Failure to Connect on Sony Bravia TV

    Hi all,
Anybody encountered any issues trying to log into Skype on a Sony Bravia TV? I have a NX720. Everything else is fine. Wifi set up, internet connection and internet TV, although alittle slow.
But when it comes to Skype, after plugging details. You see a message 'logging you in..' with the little blue bar moving from left to right. After about close to a minute, a message comes out but only at a split second, so u can't read it either and then it goes back to the main tv screen.
Be grateful for any help. Is it a Internet connection signal problem? Do I need a new router?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
It seems to be a general problem, see this thread also http://community.skype.com/t5/Skype-on-your-TV/Sony-BRAVIA-not-able-to-Login-to-Skype-quot-kicks-out...
Who can help in this? Is it a Skype or a Sony problem?

  • How to connect with sony bravia.

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect my Mac pro with my Sony Bravia LCD TV. I bought a MiniDP to VGA cable and I already had a VGA extension to connect with my TV. I used to use that cable to connect my other laptop and worked ok with frequent "no synchronisation". Once I connected all, nothing happened. I restarted the PC but nothing happened. I tried to play around with all connection, but nothing happened. I do use windows XP in my mac pro as well and it didnt work their either although my other PC working fine with same VGA cable. I'm not very sure my MiniDP to VGA cable is working or not? Is there anyway I can check its working. Also, someone (sorry forgot the name) in the forum said, HDMI works better then VGA. What do I have to do to connect my PC through HDMI. Is there any direct cable to connect MiniDP and HDMI? Thanks for your help.

The best way to test if the VGA adapter is bad or not is to try it with another display, preferably a computer monitor instead of a TV. If it doesn't work with a monitor, then that's stronger evidence the adapter is bad.
There are MiniDP to HDMI adapters. Here's an example of one. I believe this company will ship internationally. You might be able to find UK sources for similar adapters.
