Macbook 2008 sound to Home Theatre System which only has optical audio.

Trying to connect my macbook (2008) to panasonic home theatre system which only has optical audio. Tried using toslink optical audio cable with 3.5mm jack converter but still no sound, any ideas please? Thanks

If I understand what you are saying then yes you are correct. If you want the sound from your tv to come out of your home theatre amplifier run an optical caple from the TV out to one of the inputs on your receiver. Then select that source when you want to listen to the tv. In order to get 5.1 sound though the program source will have to be broadcast in dolby digital. Other wise it will most likely be dolby pro logig or stereo depending on how your receiver is set up.
It will probably also output sound for your blu ray player as well through the tv because hdmi carries audio to your tv. However the best possible sound will come from hooking the hdmi cable directly up to your receiver and selecting that source during dvd playback. Which is the way you have it if I understand correctly.

  • Sony BRAVIA Sound bar home theatre system

I just bought one of those Sony BRAVIA sound bar home theatre systems & I am trying to hook up my old model vcr/dvd combo so I can get surround sound on the dvd player. My husband & I have almost tried everything & it still won't work. It doesn't have an HDMI or an Optical hook up on the back of the vcr/dvd player. How can I hook up the surround sound to play through the vcr/dvd player?

The bravia sound bar has analog hoook up as well.......what you will do is take the red & white audio cables.....and plug them into the OUT of the existing dvd player and then plug them to the IN red & white jacks on the back of the bravia sound bar system.

  • Sound blaster Upmixed surround sound Vs Home Theatre syste

Is there anyone has used Sound Blaster (any kind) to Upmix the stereo sound to surround (5.,6. or 7.) by hooking up to the home theatre system? Please help tell me the surround sound of which one (by using Sound Blaster upmixing or Home theatre system's) is better?

Not quite sure what your asking but here goes anyway, 7. is obviously the better due to having 7speakers and a sub which equals more channels, more speakers, greter effects.
If you have a creative home theatre that is 7. such as 'Creative GigaWorks S750' and your sound card doesnt support 7. then the theatre system does allow you to upmix 5. or 6. to 7., but this is not as good as having true 7. because for example if you watch a movie that has 7. surround sound support the sound will only be played in 5. or 6. but the theatre system will upmix it to play on all 7 speakers, to explain in more detail if the film you are watching is trying to play sound on just the middle speakers if the sound card only supports 5. then the sound will get sent to the rear speakers insted and the theater system will upmix it and send it to the middle speakers as well, which would reduce what ever sound effects it is that the movie is trying to put across. So for the best performance and entertainment value a 7. theatre system with 7. capable sound card is the best option.
    Hope this helps

  • I neeed a help in installing my home theatre system ..............plz hlp somebuddy

i wanted to connect my sony Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home Theatre System BDV-E970W to my LCD bravia tv. when i go to my wire connection i.e (input).I click on HDMI slot 1 which i connected my home theatre but there is no display appearing not a sound and not a pictue.i connected it to other HDMI port but the condition is the same, then i checked my HDMI cable with my laptop the cable does good...so i m bit confused...

The BDV-E970W is not a product sold in the U.S. market. I would recommend checking the "troubleshooting" section of your owner's manual, or contacting your local home theatre store or your country's Sony Helpline for further support.

  • How iPhone  controls my Bose home theatre system ACROSS THE STREET!!!

    1) I purchased an Aiport Express
    2) I installed the free version of "Signal" http://www.alloysoft.com/
    3) Finally hook everything up and turn on the Signal App & iTunes & BAM!!! your friends now envy you.....
Note: be sure to click the correct setting ("Computer" or "Airport") at the bottom of iTunes once you have it all hooked up & running, you may have to configure a port to get Signal running which is very easy.. look on Signals support page for instruction.

  • Laptop Audio to Sony Home Theatre System DAV DZ151KB

Hello, I have a laptop (Acer make) and I want its audio to come off my Sony Home Theatre System - model DAV DZ 151 KB. I have tried using the cable with 3.5mm pin on both sides. One was into the laptops headphone socket and the other in the Audio-In port on the front side of the music system. It is not working though. Any suggestions which cable shall be used? Please help. Thanks in advance, Aniruddha

    Thanks for the reply.
I had done a bit more digging after posting this question and found out that, although it gives excellent surround sound for DVD, TV and the Sky+ box that it did receive poor reviews at time of release because of the inability to connect anything other than the TV and Sky+ box to it.
I bought it 4 years ago when I knew very little of these things so it's a lesson learned and a mistake I won't make when replacing it.
Just got to convince the wife to let me replace it now......

  • How can I play my ITunes music stored on my IMac via Apple TV through my home theatre system and control it from my IMac?

My ITunes library is stored on my IMac which is connected to B&W desktop speakers. My music system is connected to my IMac via USB through a Benchmark DAC. I use Pure Music software and am able to simultaneously play music on my IMac in my study and my main music system in the living room.
My home theatre system is connected by Apple TV via the home network to the IMac. I can access my ITunes library from the TV using the Apple TV remote control. But when I try to play music from the computer and stream to the TV / home theatre, I am unable to make the connection. I tried activating Airplay, but I still cannot get the music to play.
I would appreciate any advice on how to set this up.

Thanks for the suggestion. I subsequently realized that my Airplay settings on ITunes are ok. The problem is with the settings on Pure Music. I still havent figured this out. When i stream using just ITunes, it works fine, but when I play music using ITunes / Pure Magic, I still have an issue with Apple TV.

  • Apple TV won't connect properly to Sony home theatre system using hdmi cable.

Using an HDMI cable to the port on the home theatre system I can get sound, but the picture is intermittent. It Comes on for 1second, goes of for 10 seconds.
If I connect directly to the TV using the HDMI to DVI-D cable it works, but because I am using a Fujitsu plasmavision it is a monitor only with no speakers.
Would really like to get this to work and don't understand why the video signal is intermittent from the blueray player. Other inputs into the player through the HDMI port work OK (such as a set top box).

Just installed my Vizio SoundBar with my new LG TV & Apple TV 2... The trick to get the Apple TV 2 to send audio to the Soundbar is on the Apple TV Menu under audio change it to 16 bit. Boom it works.

  • Wireless Home Theatre System Interfering with my Macbookpro to Airport

I brought a wireless 6.1 home theatre system for my living room and now my macbook pro cannot link up to my airport (the flat one) that is located in my bedroom when I'm watching dvd and wants to work on my macbook pro at the same time. Turning on internet robustness doesn't work.
If I switch off the system, my macbook pro detects the airport immediately and connects.
The frustrating thing is that when my home theatre system is on, my macbook pro detects most of my neighbours' wireless routers except my airport!
Is there a workaround? Thanks in advance.

Configure your AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to use a different channel. Change the channel until you find one that works or you run out of channels.

  • Playing video from my IPod Touch on my Panasonic SC-BTT370 home theatre system.

I get sound but no video from my IPod Touch on my Panasonic SC-BTT370 home theatre system. It keeps saying to change the TV Output to AV (Composite Video). I know it's hooked up properly as everything else works and I can get horizontal rolling with no color but nothing better.  Before I pay for apple support does anyone have any ideas?
(My tv is also panasonic and the ipod is 4th generation)
    Many thanks

OK, I can get the video to play, but I have no ability to scroll thru the movie.

  • How do i connect my iPod classic to my home theatre system?

I'd like to play my iPod through my LG home theatre system but am sure how to connect it. There's a USB and microphone port on the front.

    Hi Twofishdan,
I think that the easiest way to connect the iPod is via an aux-to-aux cable, which you plug in to the 3.5mm aux jack (headphone/microphone port) in your home cinema system, and the other end in the iPod's headphone jack.
You could also try using your normal Apple 30 pin sync/charge cable, plugging it in the USB slot and connecting your iPod, but this might not work if the home theatre wasn't programmed to connect Apple devices via USB, therefore it's a trial and error process which you might be lucky to work for you.
    Good Luck,
    Stefan

  • Can you use surround sound 5.1home theatre systems with iMac 27"?

Can you use surround sound 5.1 home theatre systems with iMac 27"? I was thinking of using my iMac as an internet television as well as home pc. thanks

    NZane-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
The Mac puts out encoded 5.1. It is the function of the amplifier, receiver or decoder to take that signal and turn it into something useful. At minimum you will need a device that can accept that output and turn it into something useful.
Most studios that I am familiar with want to be able to use their own 5.1 decoder, amp and speakers. Juicier sound!
    Luck-
