Macbook 2009 (13inch) vs macbook 2011 (13inch)

1.Which is better for playing games
overall which is the best

Can they do that there and then or will it need to be sent away (if I book an appointment at my local store)
Replacing would be the entire besel round the screen and most likely the entire area round the keyboard/trackpad... its definitely not abuse though I do see where you're coming from with that comment...

  • My macbook 2011 won't boot up please help!!!

    Hi there
I hope someone can help me. I have a macbook 2011 and the other week it wouldn't boot up. It went into t a screen with the apple logo and a progress bar appeared. I waited ages but got stuck. I did some research and thought I would buy a new hard drive which I then replaced, all seemed well as it was back to its old self but now the issue has come back. I cant access the hardware test and was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what I can do or how I can access this some other way. I am not sure what could be causing the problem. i am running the macbook on the latest OSX. Any help would be amazing!

It could be the drive cable, and it might have been the drive cable all along. The following article has a list of symptoms describing drive and drive related problems:
    Hard Drive Problems
If you could get an external drive with an OS installed on it you could boot from that and try and figure out what's going on. Be advised that Snow Leopard and earlier OSes may not recognize the internal drive's volume if it's Yosemite and they won't make sense of Core Storage because it didn't exist when they were released. Another option might be to boot off the install media if you have it and see what's up with the drive or if it's even visible.
The following articles about resets may help, but don't hold your breath:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
How to reset your Mac's NVRAM, PRAM, and SMC | Macworld
I rather doubt that will do it. If you have the install media I'd use it and see what's up before proceeding.

  • Defect MacBook 2011. Problems with the video chip.

I was faced with the legendary defect MacBook 2011. Problems with the video chip. Heard about what Apple makes replacement chips for free. My friend a year ago made the change in the service center. Is this true now?

Since Apple says that some copy protected DVD's will not function with Disk Sharing, you may need to "clone" the DVD, using the MBP, to a flash drive, and use the flash drive to perform the installation of the software.
Another alternative is to download and install the Trial version from the Microsoft Office For Mac website, and then use the activation code provided with the DVD to activate the full version install of the trial.

  • MacBook (2011) to Hi-FI Amplifier Interconnect

I would like to play iTunes audio from my MacBook (2011) through the analog inputs on an amplifier.
    1) Connect analog headphone jack to RCA inputs on amplifier, or
    2) Use AirPlay from MacBook to an Airport Express, and analog audio from the Airport Express to the RCA jacks?
Which approach will provide the best fidelity and signal matching?

For practical purposes, it is the source material that is the bottleneck. If you connect the Airport Express to your audio equipment with an optical cable, you will get the best fidelity.
    http://www.stereophile.com/budgetcomponents/505apple/
Apple uses a lossless codec for streaming between the computer and the Airport, so except for possible transcoding artifacts, if you play or rip a CD in iTunes without compression, I think you should get as close to CD fidelity as you might want.
If that's still not satisfactory, as mentioned above, a direct optical link from your computer to your audio equipment would be the preferred alternative.

  • Macbook 2011 Model Hangs more than usual....?

I have a Macbook ( 2011 Model ) that's hanging longer and more than usual. This just started yesterday, and I've ran a virus scan ( which can back clean ), and clean my mac clean up on my cache. That seemed to help for a while, but I notice after my mac run a few applications it slows down, and take a long time to process anything. I can use some help.

The most common issues are memory and free sisk space....so how much memory do you hve, and how much free disk space do you have?

  • Help with 2009 13inch MacBook Pro Hard Drive!!!

My hard drive recently died on me and I'm new to everything about hard drives. To replace my old hard drive, I purchased a Seagate Momentus Laptop 320GB 5400RPM 8MB Cache. Is this the right one to buy for basic usage?
Also, when I turn on my computer, there is a flashing folder with a question mark in it, this happened initially when my hard drive died. Is this happening because I need to install the installation CDs?
Please, any help would be great!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That hard drive should work on your MacBook Pro. A question mark appears when your MacBook doesn't find any bootable partition to start, so you can't use your MacBook. To fix it:
    1. Replace the hard disk, insert the OS X disc and press C key while your Mac is starting.
    2. Go to Utilities > Disk Utility, select your hard disk in the sidebar and go to Partition tab.
    3. Select Options and choose GUID Partition Table. Then, press OK, select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) in Format, and select Apply.
    4. Install OS X. When the installation finishes, open  > Software Update and update to the latest version

  • Hard drive 2009 13inch MacBook Pro HELP!

My internal hard drive recently died on me and I'm new to everything about hard drives.

When you get into Disk Utility, you should click on 'Erase' in the menu bar, and you should get a display such as this (but with your HDD in the left hand column):
Note where it says 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'.  Make certain that you have selected that option.  Click on the 'Erase' field in the lower right hand portion of the display to commence the formatting.  When that is complete, continue the installation.
    Ciao.

A well-treated and regularly checked Macbook Pro (September 2011) is behaving really oddly. Whenever anything has been wrong with it, I have had it fixed or repaired or checked. It has had its hinge and optical drive replaced in its time, and in July, it was taken to an apple-approved specialist to have its hard drive replaced with a larger one (a 1tb seagate one, details later) (this was the final repair it had when it was covered by Applecare, as it had its optical drive replaced on this occasion) to guarantee its longevity.
Until about a week and a bit ago, it was fine. However, on October 10th, it all went wrong. I was only using it for google chrome and a few background apps (ie, itunes, spotify), when restarted and could not find the hard drive from which to boot. It went to the same apple specialists as mentioned and they managed to get it working again, (it was stuck in internet recovery mode, unable to find the internal hard drive from which to boot up the operating system or a place to install it, I was not sure). Since the repair, the machine has constantly been freezing up in the most basic of situations. Most webpages cause the computer to freeze, and an entire evening was spent re-installing and deleting copies of Google Chrome as it would not open it (and the icon bounced on the dock, and was neither able to opened or to be force quit). I am currently unable to use time machine as I do not have a spare hard drive big enough, (having replaced the 320gb originally in the laptop with the 1tb one, and it having 349gbs worth of data). The fan is constantly loud and the machine is struggling. I was going to attempt to stabalize it by downloading and installing Yosemite, but the computer has crashed beyond access several times, and shown me the Question-Mark-In-Folder symbol several times and seemingly failed and succeeded at internet recovery several times.
I cannot afford to replace this computer, and I have not installed any new applications that could possibly have altered its stability. Beyond Google Chrome and a Memory Clean application to try and keep it stable, it has no new software.
Having googled this and gotten very few helpful results or recommendations, I have used software called EtreCheck, and will post the results from that below. Can anyone recommend anything? I am otherwise only using it minimally and trying to keep it stable. I do not want to carry on using Firefox. I would have resorted to safari, but that also will not open and just bounces on the dock...

  • Adding Bootcamp Partition, on SuperDrive failing Macbook 2011 Early

I need to install my Windows License on my Macbook Pro 2011 Earyl, Lion. My SuperDrive began to fail nearly a month ago. My goal is to try install windows from an USB Windows 7 Bootable, helping me with rEFIt. Initiating process when trying to make my partition (with Bootcamp assistant, Bootcamp updated) I found that it doesn't allow me to make partition because 'Boot camp couldn't find a Windows CD on the CD Drive, please insert a CD...', something like it, my SuperDrive is failing and rejects whatever CD I insert, but that's not the problem, by now the issue I find is to be allowed to make a partiition in the same way as OSX allow for Air and new Macbooks without SuperDrive unit. I've heard that BootCamp 4.0 allow making partition without inserting a CD, I've tried locate Bootcamp 4.0 in Apple downloads but I don't find, to downgrade... I've searched over Apple, forums over internet, tried and tried, many ways, and now I'm tired with this. Actually I live in a remote place, dont have access to anyone with an external CD Drive, it could make it easier, I know. I tried too make a partition with Disk Utility, but it didn´t worked... Please help me, I'm very dissapointed with this case. Thanks, a lot of thanks in advance.
PD. I've read about a fail design in SuperDrive for Macbooks Pro, anyway I will ask for warranty.

This may be an old post, but for those still looking for an answer you can get the 13.12 (December 2013) AMD graphics driver from https://www.dropbox.com/sh/915fpdtgbgoksct/kOY7bKHgKq Select "Download->Download as .zip".
I only modded the driver for the windows 7 64-bit install, so if you using windows 8 under bootcamp you'll have to follow the included instructions yourself.
Please let me know/like this post if this works for you. (It would be great if you could report whether it worked based on using Win 7 or Win 8)

Even without knowing how much RAM you have, it certainly sounds like either too little or a bad stick. Remember that Rosetta likes RAM. The more the merrier.
It could also be that something is hogging your CPU cycles. As suggested, open up your activity monitor (located under applications -> utilities) and check both CPU activity and memory usage. Be sure to open the drop box and select "all processes" not just "my processes."
Apps running under Rosetta are not the only possibilities. Look for anything that is taking up large amounts of RAM or CPU cycles.

  • X-Rite Optix XR/Coloreyes Pro and 13" MacBook 2011

    Hello,
I use the X-Rite Optix XR device along with Coloreyes Display Pro to calibrate my apple 23” ACD and it works great.
Can I also use them to calibrate the screen of the 2011 macbook pro 13”?
    Regards
PS, I've also posted this question in the macbook pro forum.

Unless you have a desktop Mac you can back up to over your network, your choices are:
Spend a bunch on a Time Capsule, kind of a waste if you already have a wireless router.
Spend $100 or so on an external HD and have some inconvenience until Iomega updates.
    Risk losing all your data.
It's your call, but a no-brainer to me.
Better:  get a portable external.  Once you get the Iomega working, start making regular "clones" to the portable and take it off-site so you're also protected against fire, flood, theft, etc.

  • Macbook 2011 not booting

    Hello,
i have a macbook pro 15' late 2011 and it stopped booting. The apple disappear and the. It get stuck in a gray screen.
I saw on the web that it would be possible to apply a software fix, disabling the video card. Is that true?
IN my country a new macbook is about 3.000 usd, so buying a new one is not an option for me.
is there anything i can do? Thank you

Better to not disable any hardware. That may add insult to injury.
The startup disk may need repairing.
Startup your Mac wil holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to repair the disk and reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery

  • Latest Ati 6750M driver Macbook 2011

Hi, when I try to install the latest AMD mobility radeon 13.1 Drivers (from this http://support.amd.com/it/gpudownloa...b_win7-64.aspx
in my Windows 7 64bit partition (Macbook Pro early 2011 with Ati 6750M) I have an error with text "no graphic card supported" (or simil).
What drivers I need to install for play with Battle Field 3?
At this moment I have installed 12.8 beta 11 Desktop Edition, all works but if I overclock with MSI Afterburner my desktop flickering when the clocks automatic change (when I play the clocks are always at 750/900 and no monitor flickering). Maybe the problem is the NO mobility radeon installed.
    Sorry for my english
    Thanks!

Thanks, but I have installed 12.4 12.8 12.11 .... the drivers are correctly installed, but with the latest 12.11 or 12.10 the screen flickring every time the gpu change clocks (for low energy consumption for example).
Anyone have this issue with latest 12.11 or 12.10?
