Macbook 2010 to HDMI

I can't seem to get my LED Samsung TV to recognize my white macbook. I had previously connected this macbook with a LCD LG tv without any problems. This is a new HDMI cable and adapter and when I plug them in nothing happens. On the tv, it says nothing is connected to the port and my computer doesn't recognize it either. How do I fix this?? I've already tried plugging it in to the other HDMI ports and still nothing works. Please help.

The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. But check your TV manual to see if it has audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports.
If you have the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody or Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the Mini DisplayPort rather than the Mini-DVI there is an adapter that uses the Mini DisplayPort and a USB port to combine video and audio to HDMI. It's only 2 channel stereo not 5.1 Dolby Surround.

The Mini-DVI port doen't carry audio at all. The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports.
To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

The Mac uses a highly-parameterized universal Driver for every display. The parameters are set at certain times when a query is sent to your display. The display MUST answer with its name and capabilities, or the screen stays dark. A TV set that is off or "not paying attention" because it is set to a different port when the query occurs will rarely answer, and so will often remain dark.
You can use tools in the System Report to see whether your display has been detected at all. If it has, the report will look something like this, but its name will appear:
The times when the query is sent are:
• at Startup
• at wake from sleep
• when the Mac-end of the cable is inserted
• when using the Option ( Detect Displays ) button in displays preferences

Retina has a HDMI port.
Others have a ThunderBolt, which is backward-compatible with Mini DisplayPort. Get a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, and make sure you insert it until essentially ALL of the metal end is inside the jack, and you will be in business.

I would like to add:
you have incompatible software: start in SafeMode, read Woodmeister and see if it is free of issues.
Akamai is crap software needed or not, Huawei the same.
It is very possible that the keygenerator you used for generating a key for some softwares has infected your mac.
The non-regular software with the false key(s) are not compatible probably or generate malware. Luckily you can not update them automatically because the keygenerator blocked the software for contacting the developer... I propose to consider getting rid of those softwares by really good uninstalling.
You have a beautiful mac, don't degenerate it with crapped software. There are alternatives for expensive software, for example Adobe Photoshop has a free alternative (with a less beautiful interface) in GIMP. And so on.

Yes, but the one you need depends on the specific MacBook you have.
Earlier MacBooks use a Mini-DVI and later ones use a Mini DisplayPort for their video output. To find out which MacBook you have, go to the  (Apple menu) and choose About This Mac. Click More Info... and in the System Profiler window that opens, choose Hardware. Your Model Identifier will be shown.
For MacBook1,1 though MacBook4,1 choose a Mini-DVI to HDMI Adapter
For MacBook5,1 and later choose a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter
Either one is commonly available for less than $10.

Or you may have the display zoomed in. CONTROL with a two finger drag on the trackpad towards you will take care of that.

How is it that a relatively new MacBook 2010 wouldn't be able to use airplay mirroring, and why is there no information about that up front? I purchased mountain lion expressly for this function and only now discover my MacBook is too old?
Or am I missing something...(i hope so)

Lots of people are disappointed. Including me.
I have a mid 2010 iMac.
Most of us did our research and knew that our machines were "Not Airplay Mirroring" capable so we don't feel cheated or robbed.
Lot's of other nice features for some people, other people don't like or want the new features.
They have a choice of upgrading to Mountain Lion or not.
It wasn't like they made you purchase Moutain Lion, nor did they tell you your machine could use Airplay Mirroring.
It was your decision to buy Mountain Lion.
Myself, I am waiting for the new iMacs to come out sometime later this year.
I will then decide whether I want to upgrade to a new iMac or not depending on what new hardward the machines come out with.

Your Macbook Pro will not support sound vis HDMI. You will have to tap the audio output port and connect to the TV audio inputs for sound. You will need a 3.5 mm plug in a 'Y' connector configuration with RCA connectors on the other end.

You could try updating your apple TV and then restarting it. Bit of a guess.

Depending on exactly what model MacBook you have, you need an appropriate adapter plus an HDMI cable. For example:
If your MacBook has a miniDisplayPort you need the Apple MiniDisplayPort-DVI adapter + a DVI-to-HDMI cable.
If your MacBook has a miniDVI port then you just need a miniDVI-to-HDMI cable. Or you could use an adapter like this + an HDMI cable.
Note: audio is a separate connection from your MacBook's headphone out to your TV's audio-in.

Hi guys!
I've got a tricky one here and I'm hoping someone can help. I am a technician working at a school working on getting some macs ready for the upcoming school year. The old technology director retired last year and the tech staff and I had to reset all the 300+ computers' passwords. Everything has gone well, save a few problems here and there. I have one computer, though, that is causing me a few more issues. This Macbook (2010) refuses to accept any startup combo keys (ex. option-command-p-r, c, t, option, command-s, option-command-O-F). Everytime I try to boot, it always goes streight through a normal boot and to the desktop, regardless of what keys I'm holding down. Upon reaching the OS, though, the keyboard works fine, no problems with typing or anything. I connected a usb keyboard and attempted to use the same combo keys, no change. I reset the SMC, with no result. I even tried removing a RAM card in hopes of resetting any problems there might be with the firmware, still no change! There has never been a firmware password set on this computer. It's running OSX 10.6.8.
I'm running out of ideas here, any help would be greatly appeciated. I have the computer right here next to me ready to try stuff on it, and an entire tech department at my disposal, lets try to get this sucker fixed!

The computer was previously issued to a seventh grade girl, so it is unlikely that she tried to set a firmware password, even accidentally. Even if that was the case though... wouldn't removing a RAM card reset the firmware and fix any FW password related problems, or is a PRAM zap required for that to happen?
I had looked at that forum post before, that's where I got the idea of resetting the firmware.
Any other ideas????
If absolutely necessary I can back up the drive and wipe it, but I'd rather it not come to that.
