Macbook intel core 2 duo   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   60gb hdd, 512mb ram

Ok , probably sounds like a good idea from the sound of it.
Are you ok with doing that?
But before you do have you reset the Pram, you can do this by holding down the command option P R keys down when restarting the macbook and if done correctly the macbook will chime as normal but keep those keys held down for 3 chimes in total, then release them and the macbook will fire up as usual.
Try that first and post back after and tell me how its running.( be aware though that this will reset your settings to the default ones)

  • Final Cut acting strange after update

I have a recently purchased Mac pro six-core with Mountain Lion OS.
I've installed Final Cut Pro version 6.06 along with a Kona 3 card. All was fine with Final
Cut until last week when I added RAM (real apple ram from the apple store) and did a
software update that included a OS update. Since then Final Cut has been acting very strange.
First I was getting messages that FCP didn't see the Kona card although it was still seeing video input when I opened the capture window. I re-seated the card and the RAM and ran disk utility and eventually the error messages went away. but when I open the capture window and try to capture a five minute segment from a digibeta deck using marked ins & outs the record stops a couple minutes in. It will cue to a timecode but the capture out point seems to be ignored.
I thought maybe it was a PRAM issue so I zapped the pram, at least I think I did-following the
instructions and hearing the 2 startup chimes, also the SMC. and still the same behavior.
The FCP setup has access to HD & SD formats through a run to the production floor, but these
record attempts were done using a digibeta deck setup in the same room with the same setup that's been rock solid up until now. Just wondering if any other Final Cut users have had any similar issues or if anyone has any insight or advise on what's causing this.
    Thanks,
    DB

You must update your Kona drivers to match the version of OSX.
Check with the AJA website to download and install the proper ones.

  • My macbook pro started acting strange after a safari reset. the mouse no longer: animates the dock, activates hot corners or selects pages from the 'top sites' page.

my macbook pro started acting strange after a safari reset.
the mouse no longer: animates the dock, activates hot corners or selects pages from safari 'top sites' (without a hassle). attempts to reset dock and hot corners from preferences has been fruitless
the mouse also gets 'stuck' in logic precipitating force quits.
i run osX 10.6.8 on a 2007 macbook pro that has had 2 motherboards replaced autumn 2010.
my troubleshooting has been: restart, pRam and safe boot, also checking a 'test' account to find the same issues extant.
pRam restart caused airport to quit and say there is no airport card, and wouldn't respond untill another reboot.
macbook pro 15" 2.4 GHz intel core duo.2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
i have treated this book with care, yet run logic pro studio to the limit of this book's abilities.
    what shoud i do?

You don't say which year you have, however...
...there are known problems with the mid-2010 models (see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) as well as early and late 15" 2011 models (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0).
Apple has taken ownership of the problems with the 2010 model but, unfortunately, the free logic board replacement for that model has probably long expired for you - three years after date of purchase.
One the 2011 models Apple has admitted no defect. You'll just have to skim the articles to get an overview of the problems that people are having (usually showing up as screen glitches at first and then going downhill from there).
    Good luck,

  • Safari's Tabs Acting Strange After 10.6.4 Update

    Hi guys,
After the 10.6.4 update Safari's tabs have been acting strangely. Say I have Apple.com open in one tab and I hit Apple-T to open a new tab. It then changes that tab (which Apple.com was loaded on) to the Top Sites, keeps the focus on this tab, then opens a blank tab right next to it. I effectively lose the page I was using and a blank one appears. Any ideas as to how to fix this?
    Thanks for the help!

    HI,
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons and click Reset. Relaunch Safari. If you still having problems...
Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.
And if you didn't repair disk permissions after you updated Safari, it's a good idea to do that.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • MacBook Airport Issues After Update

Hello. After performing the most recent Software Update, my wireless Airport in my MacBook has been acting erratically. I never had these problems with it before the update and I know it's not the router because other wireless notebooks don't have the problem.
ISSUE: Airport often begins scanning in the middle of an online session without any reason. It then interrupts the session causing a hang while trying to visit other web addresses. It's as if it lost signal and began scanning again. Yet, my signal is always full. Before the update, I NEVER lost signal and never experienced any interruptions. I have verified and repaired all disk permissions. I have reset the router to no avail. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have an idea what can be done?
    Thank you.

Same problem! I hope there is someone here who can help us? After updating the recent "firmware" from apple, I've been having connection issues. It's strange...I get a full signal from my airport, but when I scan to find it in Airport Utility it cannot be found. My wife has another Macbook same os, but did not update the "firmware"....guess what?...all fine with her connection to airport. So, I'd have to say it might be an update issue....you think? What can I do? God, someone help....

  • MacBook Pro issues after updating to iOS8

After updating to iOS8 I ran into some strange issues (listed below) for the first time ever. Some of them I noticed the next day, others a couple of days later...
    - all my contacts disappeared in "contacts"
    - all my contacts disappeared in "Skype"
    - my background picture disappeared
    - all my folders in the launchpad were unpacked and all the summarized apps were scattered all over the launchpad.
All those things happened while the computer was in sleep mode, not turned off and didn't return to normal after restarts.
I got everything restored/reorganized but keep wondering if somebody else experienced something similar.
    Thanks for your help.

Well, if your Contacts have disappeared, then under System Preferences, click on iCloud and make sure you are signed into iCloud. If you are not, sign in. If you are, sign out and then back in to see if that restores your contacts.
I take it you have already restarted your Mac? If not, do that as well.
    Best of luck,

  • Macbook backlight acting strange after Mavericks

I performed a clean installation of Mavericks the day after it was released, and ever since the backlight on my MacBook has been acting up. At first I thought it was just inactivity, but now today the backlight turned itself off, but the computer continued to operate. Due to being in an already bright room, there was enough ambient light to reflect and allow me to see that the display was still functioning and I could swipe between spaces with the trackpad.
Typically what has happened is the backlight will turn off for a moment, then turn back on, and the cycle repeats four or five times over a minute. Then it goes away for a while. Today it took about 30 seconds before the backlight turned back on. And it's always the gradual fading, as if it were going to sleep, never sudden off and on transitions.

This is a longshot, but try booting into the Safe Mode by booting while holding the Shift key down. When the Safe Mode boot finishes, reboot normally.

  • Very strange and possibly complex problem: Macbook (A1342) Trackpad starts acting strangely after typing something on keyboard

A few things you need to understand first:
    1) My macbook keyboard does not work.
    2) Upon reboot, the trackpad works fine.
    3) Then, as soon as I try typing something on the macbook keyboard, the trackpad starts to register every single click as a two-finger (right-click).
    4) Then, immediately after I push a key down on the bluetooth keyboard, the trackpad starts doing the double-click thing again.
Here's another strange thing. This issue arose a few weeks ago, then suddenly disappeared without me doing anything. I mean, the trackpad AND macbook keyboard were both working flawlessly. After about a week, this reappeared again, and my macbook keyboard stopped working, with the exception of like, 1 key.I have no idea what this could possibly be. Advice appreciated, though I'm not sure anyone here would have any clue what this could be.

I had a similar problem.  The battery was VERY SLIGHTLY deformed and was exerting preassure on the bottom of the trackpad.  A new battery solved the problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Backlight brightness acting strange after 10.5.3 update...

After I upgraded my MBP to 10.5.3 the backlight brightness has been acting very strange, is like it has its own life and change the brightness when ever it feels like. Its very annoying from have full brightness and then all of a sudden it reduces to half.
Anyone got any idea what could be the problem? I've tried without the "automatically adjust brightness as ambivalent light changes but its no good.
Also Safari.app is acting very slow and crashes all the time after the 10.5.3
    Thanks in advance

Yes, You should have a previous system folder after an archive and install.
Can you backup everything to a second HD? Or, were you running Time Machine (a good idea). If you can, then you can safely delete many things from the previous system folder. Or, at least enough to begin testing to see if your apps work.
I routinely do and A&I when I upgrade. Then I test all my apps (or at least the important ones and a sample of the lesser ones). I move the previous system folder to a spare disk and keep it around for a few weeks incase I need to copy something over (like fonts).
BTW, I suspect your start up disk is out of space, not memory. Again backing stuff up, particularly on a laptop is a very sound idea and also allows you to manage your stuff better -- older stuff goes on the backup. Despite some problems, Time Machine works well for this as do a number of commercial products.

  • [SOLVED] kwin acting strange after last update

    Hi,
After I upgrades yesterday, compositing in kwin was not working when the setting was on openGL. It works when I use Xrender but very very very slow. I'm rather new to arch linux. Somebody a solution?
It was a big upgrade. Something wrong with the new radeon drivers?
I'm on a 32 bit toshiba laptop and running kdemod (from chakra) and I use the ati-dri driver.
Everything was very nice and smooth until yesterday.
I hope somebody can help this newbie ^^

    Thanks for the clue, sir!
    That did it.
If searched wiki about KMS and it seems that KMS is better (if you're card support it). I hope that I can enable it again in the future.

  • Iphoto window is acting strange after latest update

After the latest update to iphoto, the window will not toggle to the front of any other open window when selected. I have to minimize all other open windows.
    Help!

Are you referring to iPhoto 9.4.3 on your Mac?  If so try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Why is the Bluetooth  acting strange after the 10.7.3 update

I have to manually sync my mouse and keyboard  every time I reboot my system. Everything was working fine before the update?? Any help would be appreciated !

I gave that a try, but it didnt seem to help. I had tried that before but without the reboot, so i figured it was worth a shoot. thanks for the help though!! any other suggestions would be very helpfull. Im hoping they come out with a patch soon to fix the problem. I looked in the advanced tap under bluetooth preferances and i noticed there was a serial port in the list, but it wasnt checked. there was 2 check boxes so i checked them both. that didnt seem to make any differance, so i put them back the way i found them.

  • MacBook shuts down after update on startup

Today my MacBook has been acting up again. This time, I shut it Down and restarted it, then it started applying the update for a while. Then, after it's done, it shus down. When I power it up again, it updates again. Then the same cycle repeats and repeats. Could someone please help me?

I am having identical issues as you described - although I haven't installed secrets preference pane (so I doubt that's involved).
My problem went on for hours one night, I got sick of dealing with it and went to sleep with AC adapter unplugged and macbook off. The next day, it worked fine all day long. Now here I am in the evening - had a power cut, AC adapter went off obviously, and MacBook powered off. Again now I have this problem.
I tried everything you've talked about (PRAM reset) as well as SMC reset, no change. My battery stats look great, says battery is healthy. This started happening to me a few days ago, I upgraded to 10.6 a few weeks ago.. not sure what caused this to start happening.
I found one VERY interesting thing, maybe you can check this: when I have the problem, with AC adapter unhooked, when I try to power up my MacBook it comes up for 2-5 seconds (sometimes until the apple tone, sometimes not), and turns off. If I HOLD THE POWER BUTTON for 5+ seconds the MacBook remains on, the white light on the front flashes, and I get a long tone. This procedure is supposed to be used for firmware updates or something. Anyway, when I do this, the computer comes up perfectly and it uses the battery. When I hook an AC adapter up, that works, but as soon as I unplug it I am back to the same problem. You should try this and see if it works for you, it may be a clue. If nothing else, it's a good way to still use your laptop if you are on the go and can't be dead in the water
My wife has a MacBook slightly newer than mine, I'm going to try her battery when possible to see if that solves the problem. I hesitate to go to the genius bar as they are terrible where I live and it's always been a waste of time
(Also, the battery update fails for me as well).

  • MacBook painfully slow after updating OS X to 10.9.5!!!!!

My MacBook runs extremely slow since updating to 10.9.5 today!  Why is this?  While typing this the color wheel came up approximately every two words.  Took over ten minutes just to post this!!!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.
