Macbook air 11 won't accept login password

Have not changed anything and all of a sudden today when I put in my password the login screen won't do anything. When this happened the computer had been "asleep" and I thought it was just getting stuck trying to wake up. After a few failed tries I finally just turned it off and waited about 10 minutes. Turned it back on and once it booted up and went to the login screen I typed in my password and it's still doing the same thing. The bar where you type in your password goes blue, I type in the password again, hit return, and it goes back to blue. I can login as a guest, but that's not much help since I have no access to my files as a guest. What's going on???

What backups do you have?

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • Administrator profile won't accept login password

I had logged in to my 'guest' profile when I received notification that an upgrade to my RoboForm software was available so I ok'd the download. A permission screen opened requesting an administrator password to make changes to this PC. I typed in the password and it was rejected. This had never happened before so to verify I changed users to my administrator profile and attempted to login to that account and my password was rejected there also with the message " You can't sign in to your PC right now. Go to account.live.com to fix the problem, or try the last password you used on this PC.
Can't go to account.live.com if I can't open the  profile.
Can't use the guest account to help with the problem because administrator permissions would be required.
Never  had problem with this password  before it's the same password I use to login to my guest account.
Do I  have an infection if so how do I remove it?
Thanks for whatever assistance you can offer

  • My macbook air 11 yosimite won't accept my password

I log-on in my account with my password, then I decided to change it. I went to system, user&groups then change password but my old password won't accept it so I decide not to change it anymore but from now and then everytime I log in to my mac, it won't accept my password, and I am very sure I did not change my password on the first time I tried it.

In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to FOlder and type in ~/Library/keychains
Click the login.keychain once to Highlight and then from the Finder's File Menu do a Get Info (CMD and I Keys together)
In the Info Panel go to the Bottom and see if you Own the File
(Open the Padlock and then the cogwheel icon and your shortname should be there greyed Out about making you the Owner).
In the list above that you should be listed with Read and Write permissions.
If you don't have Read and Write permissions you will not store any new password.

  • Asking for password for keychain access, but won't accept my password... What's up with this?

Restarted my MacBook just now and it's got a continuous stream of pop ups asking for password for keychain access, won't accept my password, won't go away (cancel), any suggestions.

    Hello Al323,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Keychain Access on your Mac.  I found a couple of articles I suggest for the issue you described.
Your keychain uses your the same password as your login password.  If it is not accepting that password, I recommend running the Keychain First Aid using the steps in this article:
Mac OS X 10.6: Solving problems with keychains
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7296
If you are still repeatedly seeing a prompt to enter your Keychain Access password, you may need to reset your keychain.  This will create a new keychain so any saved passwords on the old keychain will not be available, and you will need to enter them when accessing sites for the first time again.  Follow the steps in the article below to create a new keychain:
OS X: Keychain Access asks for keychain "login" after changing login password

  • Mavericks won't accept my password and I can't authenticate any actions

Following my recent mishap (https://discussions.apple.com/message/25466460#25466460), I successfully reinstalled Mavericks on my MacBook Pro.
Here's the new problem. It won't recognize me as the administrator. I'm the only account in my laptop, and when I try to authenticate any changes in the system preferences, I type my admin account and password, but it won't accept it! The password hint even shows up, but it still won't accept my password!
What really bothers me is that whenever the window opens, the Name: part is empty. Before, my account name is automatically there, and all I need to do is to enter the password! I am super super worried right now, because I don't want to reinstall Mavericks again.
    Thanks!
P.S. On a side note, I was not able to oversee the completion of the reinstallation. I was out during the last few hours it was being reinstalled.

    more details about my problem:
following the reinstallation, I just wanted to check if the system file I had messed around with (the one mentioned in http://idevicedailys.com/os-x/howto-use-candybar-os-x-mavericks/) was still okay. But this shows up:
I tried using other sudo nano commands like sudo nano /etc/hosts but the same result happens. Please, I am super super desperate!

There are four buttons, the Power, Home, and the volume up and down on the left upper side.

The lock button is the one on the very top of the device, and the home button is the one on the bottom front. They are the only two buttons on the device.

  • My MacBook Air is stuck on the login screen, each

My MacBook Air is stuck on the login screen, each time I enter the password it stops (but does reject an incorrect password)

    Restore OS X.
If your Mac has v10.7, v10.8, or v10.9 installed, startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can restore OS X using OS X Recovery
For OS X prior to v10.7, boot from your install disc while holding down the C key.

  • I'm trying to sync my firefox and it won't accept my password.

Firefox Sync won't accept my password and when I tried to reset it I keep getting hung up on the "An unexpected error occurred. If this continues, please contact support." response after filling out the "Reset Password" fields. I wan't to sync Firefox for this pc. How can I get around this?
    == This happened ==
    Not sure how often
    == Today: Wednesday 28 July 2010

I solved the problem. Apparently, when I tried to sign up in sync the first time, it didn't go through. All I had to do is re-apply. I used the same username and everything (that's how I know it didn't go throught the first time). My Firefox is now synced and there are no further problems.
    P.S.
If only I could sync my Firefox bookmarks, calender and notes with Opera, Safari and Chrome. That'd be great. I like using different browsers for different purposes. When I need the browser to disappear so all I see is what's in the window, Opera works best. Firefox can't disable the tool-bar "Auto-hide" feature in full screen mode. And Safari doesn't have a Hot-key for full-screen. At least not that I've seen.
