Macbook Air 13" Core 5i Wireless problems

I just got my new MBA yesterday (2011-07-25) and I rapidly noticed a problem with the wireless connection and 5Ghz bandwith. When I connect to 802.11n band the connection fails few minutes after or just does not work... but it connects to the router. I have to use 802.11g band in order to have internet access.
I have the Linksys e4200 wireless-N router and my iMac and old Mackbook and BOTH work perfectly though 802.11n band.
Other thing that I noticed is that my shared drive which is a flash drive attached to the router is not accesible fulltime from the MBA. Access is intermittent. If I'm lucky after 30 minutes of frustation the shared drive shows up in the Finder. I looked on intertnet and some forums make reference to the Samba support dicontinued by Apple in Lion. So, why my shared drive goes on and off in Lion?
I know that I'm not having router issues because I can work without any inconvenient with my iMac and my old Mackbook both running Snow Leopard.

Yesterday somebody posted a thread in macrumors (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1198324).
I decided to try this suggestion because it describes a different solution of what I've seen around lately. I just followed the instructions of disabling the automatic IPv6 setup in my wireless-N router. After that I set the connection on the top of the connections list.. and it worked. I was able to navigate for an hour without problems.
One think that I've not resolved yet is to have available my shared drive, which is a flash drive connected to the router. It shows intermittent in my MBA (Lion) but it is always accessible in my iMac (Snow Leo).

No computer can do a thing without using memory. 1.5 GB is very little. It's normal.
3 or so hours from a full charge may also be normal, for what you are doing. As batteries age, they don't last as long on a full charge as they did when they were new. All batteries eventually wear out, and are easily replaceable.

Does the printer appear in the window so you can select it?

  • My Macbook Air will not print wirelessly!

My Macbook Air will not print wirelessly using the connection between it and my iMac which is connected via USB to my Canon Printer. The iMac and the Air are both using the same network and the printer is found on the Air... it sits at idle, but when I press "Print" on my Air it never actually prints. There is just a flash of the print icon on the Dock and then it is gone... I am left with no reason or error message. My colleagues are able to print wirelessly with no issue using their Macbook Pro and the same connected iMac. Can anyone help with this?

    Hi JDP86,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If your printer is wireless-capable, you should first add the printer to your network. Use the printer's control panel, or temporarily connect the printer to your Mac via USB.

  • Macbook air lost connection to wireless HP Desktop 3050 J10

My macbook air lost connection to wireless HP Desktop 3050 J10 printer.  Also, my other laptop (using Windows Vista) lost the connection,  The Home PC, however, is working fine.  Suggestions to fix?  Thank you.

Sorry to hear about your issue. Try working through the document I linked below and see if it resolves the issue.

If this does not resolve the issue post back and include some more information about your wireless setup. Items like brand of router and type of encryption you are using would be very helpful. Thanks!

  • My MacBook Air won't hold wireless connection at home

I have a MacBook Air running OS 10.8.4. and Belkin Surf router.  When I am home the Air is only able to connect wirelessly through my router for a couple of minutes.  I might get one or two sites to load and then no more data is transferred. The network symbol and information I get when clicking on it says it is connected to my network but still no data transfer.  If I rebook the computer I can then get the same few seconds of data transfer.   I have tried connecting it wirelessly to other networks away from my home with no problem, just my home network has an issue.  All of my other devices, Mac desktop, Windows desktop, two iPhones and two iPads, connect to my home network with no problem.  Only my Air has trouble.
    Any thoughts?

Your profile indicates your Air has v10.8.2 installed.
If that is correct, updating to v10.8.4 may help the Wi-Fi issue.
Click Software Update from your Apple  or open System Preferences > Software Update and click Check Now.
Make sure to restart your Mac after updating.
If OS X is actually up to date, open System Preferences > Network > Assist Me then click Diagnostics.
    Select Wi-Fi on the right.
If any of the buttons are red, click Continue. That may help to narrow down the connection problem.

  • MacBook Air not reconnecting to wireless after long sleep.

    Hello,
First off, apologies if this has been addressed in a previous post; went through a few pages and saw nothing that helped.
I have been having problems with my i5 Thunderbolt 11" MacBook Air - running Lion 10.7.3 - reconnecting to my home network, which is listed as a Prefered Network, after being in sleep mode; especially after a long sleep, say overnight.
I know it's not my network because my 2.8 Core 2 Duo 15" MBP - running 10.6.8 - never has a problems reconnecting.
I see other posts refering to a WiFi Update for other machines, but not the Air. And this was purchased with Lion, so while a re-install might solve the issue - again something I saw suggested - I would rather avoid the hassle.
I've checked with the "Apple people" at Best Buy - the closest thing I have to an Apple Store here in South Texas - and they say the recent update should have fixed the problem.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts/suggestions/advice are greatly appreciated!
    - Rob

There are no solutions because for many it is still an unresolved problem. It is not a problem for most. I for one have three Macs, a MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air, and a MacMini. Only one of the three, the MacBook Pro, has the problem.

  • Macbook Air 11" i7 corrupt files problem with Adobe Illustrator CS4

    Hi
this problem may not be entirely related but maybe someone could help anyways or knows how I can proceed...
I'm running Illustrator CS4 on a Macbook Air 11" (latest 2011 model, with i7, 4GB, 128SSD), and lately some files are getting corrupted. specifically, adobe illusrator CS4 files with weeks of work. interestingly, the time machine backups are also getting corrupted.
its like I'm working on a file for a few days, backing up with time machine as well
closes the file, after a few days returns to it… (normal behavior)
then when i try to get back to the file then sometimes it says "Cant open the illustration, could not complete the operation" and opens a blank canvas.
restoring the file via time machine also gives the same error (its like all versions get corrupted simultaneously), even 4-5 versions backwards, even though they worked before when the file worked
it happened quite a few times, ruining weeks of work.
    I tried the following:
    reinstalling CS4 - didn't work
Opening the files on CS5 - still don't open
doing the file recovery thing and then opening it in a notepad - didn't work at all
using Time machine - the files are still corrupt
it only happenes with AI files, not photoshop files, for example.
I thought maybe it has anything to do with SSD? since my previous macbook pro (15", 2007) never did these errors…
    please help
    Eido

If at all, this would be I/O performance and bandwidth issues with Time Machine, but I don't think that's the problem. More to the point I think that it's a case of Preview opening the files to genereate thumbnails and icons and something going wrong there. I'd look up some guides on how to edit the relevant plist and conf files to exclude your AIs or turn off the behavior to generate these previews globally. This may help hugely...

  • My MacBook Air will not print wirelessly to my Canon Pixma MX410

I recently got a MacBook Air computer from work.  I have not been able to set up the wireless printing at home via my Canon Pixma MX410 printer.  I can get it to print from my MacBook Air if i connect it via USB.  and I can get the Canon to print wirelessly from my personal Dell Laptop.
No matter what I have tried: Downloading the Printer Driver MX410 Series 106702.pkg
and still i get the same error.
The Printer is not Connected.  I don't understand how that is, when i can still print from my other computer.  There is some setting that i do not have correct on the MacBook.  What do i need to adjust?  I can't seem to find where it might be in the System Preferences.  When i look at Network  It show's i'm connected to my home Wireless Network.  but i still am unable to print.
    Please help.
    Thanks!

  • MacBook Air and Safari movie download problems

I bought a new MacBook Air in August 2013 (OS 10.8.5). After migrating all my files from my iMac I have encountered problems with downloading movies that are playing in Safari (v 6.0.5). On my iMac (OS 10.6.8) and Safari (v 5.1.10) I could go under "Window", select "Activity" and see the files associated with the movie. I could select the movie that was playing, copy the url & then past it into "Downloads" (also under the "Window"). The movie would then download to my preferred folder & I could then view it on my iMac. I can't find the "Activity" or the "Downloads" options under the "Window". How do I get the movies to download now?
    Thanks,
    John..

  • Macbook Air 4.2 SDHC reading problem

I am using lastest macbook air.
I tried to use the Sandisk SDHC card, but it won't work.
If I boot with Windows, it works fine, but Lion can't read the SDHC card.
Anyone know a reason or solution to solve it?

The OP indicates the OS Version is 10.7.1 in the signature.
I would upgrade to 10.7.2 first,, to eliminate that possibility.
I have been running Sandisk Ultra 32GB with no problems on my MBA running 10.7.2 with out any problems.

  • My MacBook Air is experiencing start up problems.

My macbook air mid 2011 has been acting very weird lately acting very weird lately.
I have been running Yosemite since the beta was released. and have only had this problem occur once before. I don't know how I fixed it but I stuffed around in recovery mode for 6 hours. Now it has come back.
the only reason I know it's something to do with the ssd is when I turn it on, it starts normally. The chime sounds but stops early. The apple appears but no progress bar pops up and it goes straight to the login menu. My Yosemite mountain background doesnt come up fuzzy but is replaced by a white screen. And when I login it stops halfway and freezes indefinitely. This is a big problem and I need it fixed as I have exams next week.
