  • My 13.3" MacBook Air laptop display is very dim

My 13.3" MacBook Air display is dim. i checked the brightness keys no go. I then just verified with the external display output on the laptop & i have picture. so I checked some settings & on the Nvidia graphics card it says the lamp is off. My laptop is less then a year old. Will apple replace the back light lamp or do i have to pay for it out of pocket & do it myself?

    Hi
If the backlight has indeed failed, and it was not accidental damage etc, then Apple should replace it for you under warranty.
I would take it to an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) for evaluation.

  • Anyone else having trouble connecting new MacBook Air to display?

I have tried connecting my new 11" macbook air to a 24" acer monitor and a 40" Samsung television and the screen on the MBA turns blue like it's about to connect but then comes back as if it failed to.  Then it keeps trying.
I'm using the mini diplay port to DVI adapter to a DVI cable into the monitor.
I have also tired the mini diplsy port adapter into a DVI to HDMI adapter to see if it worked using HDMI,
    Nothing.
I called Apple and they suggested I bring it into the store.
    I'm running 10.7
    Thanks.

  • Macbook Air hdmi display not detected

Hi, my 2011 Macbook is not detecting my hdmi display - the screen flashes blue briefly but no display is detected in system preferences or anywhere else.
    Any ideas?
+I am using a mini display port to hdmi adapter with the thunderbolt output and I've tried rebooting with display plugged in and my osx is 10.7.5 Lion.
    Any help appreciated

Actually I fixed it in the end by getting a new cable, it turned out that for whatever reason my cable was not up to the job.\
I found that a cheap £5 one piece thunderbolt male to hdmi male cable off ebay did the job well and it was my two piece - thunderbolt male to hdmi female attached to a standard HDMI to HDMI cable which caused the problem.
Seems like HDMI can be quite fussy and either it works or it does nothing, no in between.
So my fancy mac now works great with my cheapo alba hdmi tv i paid £25 for and carries both sound and video!
(I don't think I'll go back to windows if I can help it, not after using a mac.  Once you've had a mac you realise what a pain in the a*s windows is .. I hardly ever feel like punching my mac )

  • Macbook air poor display of amazon

why is Amazon.com coming up with lousy display... graphics missing, old font text.  Why this site only?

Try the browser issue basics - clear history, cookies and cache. Close and re-open. If that doesn't do anything, try a different browser - Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Opera are a few options.

  • How to use old 2005 cinema display (20'') with MacBook Air (mid-2009)

My old 20'' cinema display (2005) has three ports coming out of its power box (single-port dvi, usb, firewire).  Is it possible to use this display with my newer MacBook Air (mid-2009) ? If so, what kind of connector do I need?  Thank you very much for your help.

To use my old Cinema display (2005) with my old PowerMac G5 (2005) I had to plug in all three ports (DVI, usb and firewire) into the desktop.  Can I really use the display just with the DVI output plugged into my MacBook Air mini-Display Port ?

  • On 11in Macbook Air (10.10), how do I increase resolution of built-in display to 2560 by 1600 pixels?

On 11in Macbook Air (10.10), how do I increase resolution of built-in display to 2560 by 1600 pixels?
It can be accomplished when an external display is connected, so I expect it can be done without an external display.

You're getting full native resolution 1366 x 768 on your internal display, nothing more.

  • MacBook Air: Vertical Stripe in Display

    hi,
my late 2010 macbook air suddenly displays a vertical stripe.
i realise, that when i take a screenshot, that stripe is not present.
i have the latest version of MacOS, no pending updates. i also cleaned the screen with iKlear apple polish - still the same result.
anz ideas what the problem might be?
    ty,
    balazs

Yes, I am using the MBA 2013 with haswel processor. What's your hardware?
Mine is i7 processor , 8gb ram and 256 SSD.
Look, I decided to buy Macs , because it was said that they were working properly for a long long time. After buying the latest iMac 27iches(late 2012) and the new MBA(mid 2013) the thing I have to say is that OS X is full of bugs and of course I am not here to debug Apple's software. The other thing I have to admit is that Macs tend to get hardware damages , especially on their displays, very very very very very very easily.
I got one replacement for an iMac with heavy image persistence and with my second unit I also had a ghosting issue some days ago.
With my MBA I got two replacement , that is the third unit I got and Apple still knows nothing about my issue.
Ok, I decided to pay for a very premium price, at least the machines should really work perfectly. And these facts are admitted by someone , whose house looks like an Apple Store with so many Apple's products that I have bought.
So , the best thing you can  do now is to give your feedback directly to Apple. Apple will not spend time to fix bugs which only a few customers experience. They will only release a fix , if it is a major concern , which may drop their sales worldwidely. Of course, if you think it is a hardware issue the best you can do is to ask for a replacement. I know this is inconvenient, but it is the only way to ensure that the machine you bought will worth the money you spent for it.

  • New Macbook Air - display issues after waking from sleep

I have a 1 day old Macbook Air 13" (2013) --- when I wake the machine from sleep, the display shows horizontal / vertical bands for a couple of seconds before clearing up to show the desktop. Please see attached picture. This doesn't happen 100% of the time but I've been able to repeatedly replicate this at intervals. Does this seem like a hardware problem or an OS related issue? Thanks.

    reset SMC and re verify
    SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
Since you just bought it, contact Apple about making an exchange within 14 days or repair after 2 week period.
    peace.

  • Safari on MacBook Air showing graphics in 16-bit colour

    Hi all,
On my MacBook Air system, graphics that appear in Safari show up as this (here's a small sample):
In particular, look at the mirroring under the image... it's streaky, indicative of 32-bit-to-16-bit colour conversion.
Is there a setting on Safari that can force it to display graphics in 32-bit colour?  The MacBook Air's Display settings don't offer anything with regards to setting a display depth:
Any technical details about this issue would be most welcome!  It's not a problem for me, but it is noticable in some Web pages.
Incidentally, Firefox 8 also does this too, but running apps like OmniGraffle Pro:
    shows good colour graphics (32-bit).
Is this something that the graphics controller is doing?!  For Safari and Firefox to use different rendering engines and produce the same results in rendering images with 16-bit graphics is rather perplexing!
Or... is this Lion's doing?!  I am running Safari 5.1.2 and Firefox 8.0.1 on Lion 10.7.2.
    Cheers!

I finally found what was going on with my MacBook Air... turns out it has nothing to do with the machine at all.  Instead it was because I was using a 3G connection in order to get to the Internet.
My mobile phone provider was using a proxy server which reduced the size of images by re-rendering them on the fly in order to reduce bandwidth on the 3G network!  So all those graphics artifacts were caused by my mobile phone provider!
If my MacBook Air uses another Internet connection (like WiFi) on another provider, the problem disappears!

  • Apple MacBook Air 11 inch, 13 inch, or Dell XPS 14 with i7 and nvidia graphics card?

I am a college student looking for either a MacBook Air 11 inch or a MacBook Air 13 inch. I was looking at the Dell XPS 14 with i7 processor and nvidia graphics card. It is similar in price to an Apple MacBook Air 11 inch. I will mainly use the laptop for browsing, a bit of Minecraft, watching videos (netflix/downloading movies), presentations, and documents. I would also need it to be lightweight because I will be carrying it around campus. I cannot choose between these three.....any ideas? I have an iPhone 5 and iPad with retina display (that is what I use currently and it is not working out). I just saw the WWDC14 and I saw how all my devices could connect to the Mac flawlessly.
    Please let me know,
    Thanks

I recommend the macbook 13" retina. Yes, it is expensive, but if you pair it with 8GB of memory, you should be futureproof for the next 5 years minimum. Why not the air.
Currently the air sports thunderbolt 1, This is super outdated. Macbook pro has thunderbolt 2 which allows you to daisy chain monitors via display port 1.2. Macbook Air sports display port 1.1a which only allows daisy chaining amoungst thunderbolt monitors which are expensive. $1000 minimum per a monitor where as you could pickup a daisy chainable displayport 1.2 dell monitor for $200. The only reason I am severely regretting my 13" Air.
The screen, yes, in a few years all screens will sport retina resolutions. It makes a big difference when reading and typing for long periods of time. Text is more clear. Also, 11" is way too small. If you want something that small, get an Ipad Air.
Battery life, 9 hours should still be enough to get you through the day. I go to school and I could only top out at 7 hours usage at most.
Gaming, Although I dont recommend gaming on any laptop because laptops aren't meant so much for gaming. Mostly because the heat generated from it kills the life of your laptop. It is up to 20% faster than the air.
Weight, half a pound off the 13" AIR is not a big deal. Actually the retina is smaller in height and width, so better center of balance when using it on your lap and the black bezel is less distracting.
Processor, its 10% faster in overall processing speeds generally.
Dont forget to purchase 2 year extended warranty. Buy that from bhphoto for 180 bucks. No tax and its way cheaper than apple.
If you still want the air after that, consider getting the 13". It comes with sd card slot, it is handy when you run out of space. And its 10% faster than the 11" even though they have the same processor. The processor's performance is based on the thermal threshold of the computer. The hotter it gets, the slower the computer gets to cool the processor down.
If you choose the Macbook Pro 13" RETINA(Not the $999 version with the DVD Drive), if you can, wait till late october when they update the computer with better hardware. Well... if you can.

  • HT201177 my macbook air doesnt show airplay mirroring need a help

my macbook air doesnt show airplay mirroring need a help

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
AirPlay Mirroring needs OS X Mountain Lion or later > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 Your MacBook is compatible, so you have two options:
    1. Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion or Mavericks. Open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com After upgrading, you will see the AirPlay icon on the menu bar.
    2. Keep Lion and use an app like AirParrot or Beamer to mirror your MacBook Air's display to the Apple TV
