Your computer will work fine with the Pro 24, although if you're using the Thunderbolt to firewire adapter then you might need to use the Saffire's external power supply. All of the software you mentioned should work fine as well.

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.
The many "failed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews mean nothing. Those warnings are not a reason to reinstall the OS, or to do anything else at all. They should be ignored.
The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

How does the MacBook air 1.7ghz processor compare to the MacBook Pro 2.5ghz processor?

I'm a soon to be Information Science major (similar to computer science) and am in the market for a laptop that will last me at least 3-4 years. I'm trying to be as cost effective as possible while still having a configuration that will get me through my college years. I've been looking at either the 11" MacBook Air upgraded to 8gb of ram and the 1.7ghz i7 processor OR the baseline MacBook Pro with the 2.5ghz i5 processor upgraded to 8gb of ram.
I'm leaning towards the MacBook Air because of the ssd and battery life, as well as the form factor. My only worry is that the processor won't be powerful enough to meet my needs as an information science major. I know I'll be learning programming and web development, among other things. I guess to sum up my question, will the 1.7ghz MacBook Air be powerful enough to use as a main machine as a student in this field?
Screen size isn't a problem as I own a decent 20" monitor that I can use whenever I'm at my desk.

Noticeably greater? Probably not. I have a MBP that I upgraded to 16 GB and a SSD and my MacBook Air seems at least as fast even though its CPU is slower and it has much less memory. They are both i7 models.
It depends on exactly what you're planning to do with it, for example image manipulation will be faster on the MBP with its dedicated GPU (15" model only though), but for software development and debugging you are not likely going to notice much difference. These Macs are so fast that comparing minute differences isn't worth the effort. Comparing them on the basis of weight and portability is a better idea. The MBA is lighter, but the MBP is expandable... so the choice is likely to be more subjective than quantitative.
We don't know what any future MBP changes will be implemented. Apple's product evolution is pointing in a direction away from expandability, and it's pretty clear disk drives (both optical and HD) are on the way out. If those considerations matter to you waiting for a future upgrade may not work in your favor.

I'd want more memory if I was doing image adjusting/editing. MPB 8GB RAM 2.6GHz processor Retina display would be my choice. Also the largest SSD available - image files can take up a lot of space. You'll still want external drives for storage and backup.

Try turning it on from iMessage on your Mac and see if the code entry window pops up on your phone.
All I had to do was start Messages on my Mac and it told me SMS forwarding was available and gave me the code to enter on my iPhone.
Also, Apple requires that iMessage/Messages (for SMS forwarding) and FaceTime (for voice call relays) have both your phone number and email available as contacts, so make sure both are selected on both your iPhone and Mac.

MacBook Air user went from 10.7.5 to 10.10, ssd hard drive gone

Command R starts internet recovery. Drive not listed in Disk Utility/obviously can't perform a reinstall. PRAM reset hangs at white screen, but at this point I think the drive is toast.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

A bit confused why you're trying to reinstall to begin with.
Are you trying to boot to the recovery partition because its not booting properly to the normal boot drive and your desktop?
Do you happen to have FileVault turned on? Someone may correct me on this, but I believe that can change how the recovery partition works. Hence the computer boots to the internet recovery, and not the internal recovery on your computer.

Macbook air 13, waking from sleep VERY slowly.

After I open the lid on my MBA the screen awakens nearly instantly, but the mouse cursor does not appear for 5-7 seconds. Then after it finally does appear it remains unresponcive for another 5-10 seconds after that. Some times it can take my computer 30 seconds to fully awaken. I really have no idea how to fix it.
I took it to apple store some time ago, and they replaced the logic board and something called .DS_store started poping up on my desktop and retuns even if i delete it.
But the problem still prisists. Any help would be greatly apprciated.

I have had this issue a couple of times too and it seems to be when I select sleep from the menu, when I close the lid it seems to work fine. And when I push the power button it's hard to see what's happening becuase on my MacBook Air there are no ligths. So I end up holding the power button and then pushing it again and it seems to restart. My MacBook Air is new, about 2 months, OS X 10.9.
