  • How to properly take care of a MacBook air 11 inch late 2010 refurbished

How do you properly take care of a apple macbook air refurbished late 2010 11 inch? It's working well now since I got it from a trusted website (apple) but anything can break? How do I make it live long if I have to use it everyday?

That may happen, just do your best to prevent it from happening.  As suggested, you can purchase a case for it, but there is only so much someone can do to prevent an accident that will cause damage.
3.if you lay something on it
    Don't do that.
4.What'll happen if you drop it
no one can predict whay may happen if you drop it.  It may be fine, or it could result in a costly repair.

  • Mid 2011 Macbook Air - Root Mode

I bought my Macbook Air refurbished and the Home Directory has always been a different name than I wanted. I recently figured out I could change it by enabling root user and logging in as root. I changed it and everything was fine, but when I went to log in to my normal account everything was gone. It's as if my Air is brand new. My User Account was still here and root was still enabled (I disabled it though.), but none of my files are here. If you can help me please do. It's really urgent.

Change the name of the home folder back to what it was. If the computer already had someone else's data on it when you bought it, you need to erase the startup volume and restore only your documents from a backup.

  • How can I get an album from my iPod Classic 80GB onto my refurbished MacBook Air?

    Hi there
I have a new to me refurbished MacBook Air and an old iPod Classic 80GB.  I've somehow managed to get my music off my iPod onto my laptop apart from one album which doesn't seem to have copied across.  Please could anyone tell me how to do this?  On my ancient iBook, back in the day, you could just drag music across to copy it but that doesn't work here.  I've looked on Help about backing up, but it's a bit cond=fusing as the set up isn't the same the Help section mentions, although I must have managed to back up to have the rest of my music on my laptop at all.
Also, please could someone explain syncing to me?  I've looked on Help, but i still don't know what it means.
Sorry if these are stupid questions, I'm not that clued up technically, thought trying to educate myself bit by bit now I have my own laptop.
    Thank you in advance.

Ps Just to add a bit more information, I just realised there are loads of albums on my iPod I don't have on iTunes on my laptop.  I wonder if the ones that /are/ on my laptop got there are there because there got there via me having the same apple id.  I don't know if that's a ridiculous suggestion, but thought I'd better mention it.

  • I refurbished my macbook air 7 months ago because there was a problem with the steady state drive. Now my battery seems to be dead again. How long does the warranty last? Do I need to pay for a new battery?

I refurbished my macbook air 7 months ago because there was a problem with the steady state drive. Now my battery seems to be dead again. How long does the warranty last? Do I need to pay for a new battery?

As I wrote Apple will diagnose an Apple product even if it is out of warranty for free. That should be your first step to find out if the problem is the battery or something else.
Once you have Apple telling you a 7 month old battery is defective (if that turns out to be the case)  then it becomes a game of horse trading. You'll need to speak to the tech and when he tells you there is nothing he can do you will need to speak to the tech manager and when she says most likely there is nothing they can do you go to the store manager, etc.  It is unlikely (though possible) that they will give in easily you need to be firm, polite and let on that you're willing to accept a partial reimbursement.
So again the first step is to find out what is wrong.
    good luck

  • Who has a MacBook Air from Refurbished products source?  Good or Bad?

What has been your experience? Is there anything I need to be aware of if I order a refurbished MacBook Air. My experience with other refurbished Apple products has been 100% satisfaction.

I bought a refurb Air the first day they appeared on apple.com. It has been fantastic; I haven't seen any of the common problems talked about here. I can get one of the cores to shut down, say after a while of ichat video, but I haven't noticed that the system becomes especially slow when that happens. My only complaint is that my trackpad button doesn't like to stay clicked without a fair bit of force *in the center*. Next time I'm in a city with an Apple store I'll check that out.
I'm wondering if maybe refurb isn't the way to go -- perhaps an overheating unit that got some special attention from an Apple serviceperson that reapplied just the right amount of thermal paste?

  • Choice of  keyboard layout buying a refurbished Macbook Air or Pro?

Do I have a choice of a certain keyboard layout when I buy a refurbished Macbook Air or Pro?
I like to buy a Macbook Air or Pro in the Swiss Apple Online Store.
There seems to be no information at all which kind of keyboard layout (e.g. US QWERTY or German QWERTZ) is built in.
    Thanks.

No further configurations are allowed.  You would have to find one with the keyboard you want already present on the mac.  I'm not sure where you can find info on how the keyboards in the refurb store are configured.  I would assume QWERTY unless otherwise specified (at least in the U.S. Apple refurb store).

What is a error message and what do you see when it appears?
Haven't much problem with Airs around here, since they have a SSD they tend to be more reliable.
Perhaps it was a bad update, have you ran through this list of possible fixes?
Do as many as possible, starting with #1. Until the problem is resolved.
Use the boot 10.6 USB instead of the disk of course.

  • My Refurbished Macbook Air Won't let me reinstall a new copy of OS X, My Refurbished Macbook Air Won't let me reinstall a new copy of OS X, My Refurbished Macbook Air Won't let me reinstall a new copy of OS X

I could really use some help operating my macbook air, its refurbished and i need to know how to download a new copy of OS X

The firmware in Apple's sytems for the past few years disallow the user from running or installing a version or build of OS X that predates the original version and build that came on the computer when it shipped. This is to prevent situations wherein the OS doesn't have the requisite drivers to support the graphics subsytem or other components crucial to functioning.
The current build in the online store is much earlier than the version that shipped on your 2012. It is likely that the only build you will be able to use on your machine, that you could directly download form the online store will be Mountain Lion, when it becomes available.
As such, if you need to restore the system before then, you will need to use the Recovery Partition on your system, or Internet Recovery, to reinstall the OS.

  • Is Macbook Air still relevant? Should I go for refurbished Macbook Air (2014) or Pro (2014)??

    Hi Friends,
I need your help in making the decision on Mac. I am buying a refurbished Mac. Here are the options before me:
    1. 13' Macbook Air (2014). 4GB RAM, 256 GB SSD. Price: AUD 1179/-
    2. 13' Macbook Pro (2014). 8GB RAM, 128 GB SSD. Price: AUD 1359/-
    3. 13' Macbook Pro (2014). 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD. Price: AUD 1569/-
My personal favorites are 1st and 3rd options (due to 256GB SSD). There is significant price gap between these two.
This would be my first Mac. I already have a 15 inch Windows Laptop with 4'th gen i5-4200 U CPU, 8GB RAM, 2GB GeForce GT 740M Graphics card, 1366*768 resolution. I am keeping the Windows laptop as well. So, I won't be using VMs or Boot-camp for now. I would use is mostly for light work, like - browsing, taking backup of iPhone, movies, photos, etc.
    But I have following doubts.
    A. Would Macbook Air be relevant in the market after launch of new retina Macbook?
    B. Would 4GB of RAM be sufficient for next, say, three years?
    C. Would the lack of retina display in MBA be a problem in future? (Personally, I did not find much difference (may be, my bad) for 13' screen.)
    D. If I decide to go for MBP with 8 GB RAM, but only 128 GB SSD, would it be preferable over (4GB RAM with 256GB SSD of MBA) or (8GB RAM with 128GB SSD of MBP)?
    E. Finally, What is your opinion after looking at above three options and their respective pricing?
Thanks a lot for your patience and help mates! Cheers!

Until a month ago my main computer was a 13" 2011 MBA (4GB w/ 256GB SSD) when I replaced it with a 13" 2015 MBP retina (8GB w/ 512GB SSD). The MBA is now my backup computer (and will remain my travel computer). I bought the MBPr when it became time to replace the Air due to the display pure and simple. My older eyes appreciate the incredibly clear display and the fact that changing between its default resolutions all result in crystal clear text. Using the Air for hours at a time, with some apps, my eyes became fatigued and while I could change the resolution for larger text, the text was fuzzy. The MBPr is a dream. However the Air is significantly lighter and thinner and much nicer to travel with. Were my eyes better I'd have chosen the 2015 Air.
I strongly recommend 8GB of RAM and a minimum of 256GB SSD. Depending on what software you use, 4GB will be sufficient now but three years down the road? I doubt it. Each new version of the OS has required more memory. With Mavericks (OS X 10.9) the 4GB was fine but with Yosemite I now see a moderate level of what Apple now calls memory pressure. That means my computer is now relying heavily on virtual memory. I suspect that with 10.11 and certainly 10.12 (or whatever Apple calls the next two versions of its OS) I'll have to change how I use the Air. In other words I won't be able to run 3-5 programs at a time which is how I prefer to work.

  • Refurbished MacBook air - can't set-up/login due to keyboard layout

    Hi,
I received my 'new' refurbished MacBook air today, on going through the initial set up menu, i couldn't connect to wifi, so i skipped this section and clicked through the location selection and keyboard selection - choosing UK for both. I set up the MBA to my external HD using a back up from my old MB.
When i tried to login to the MBA after this i couldn't as my password is in english, and it turns out the language setting is in one that is just symbols (i don't know which). So I can't even log in to the new MBA - and i guess the keyboard language is the reason i couldn't connect to WIFI.
Has anyone got any ideas? Thank you!

Hi Tom thanks for your response.
No it doesn't look like that - it looks like it could be a font or an arabic language - none of the symbols are recognisable as letters.
The e key doesn't work at all, and the enter key appears as a symbol rather than an enter function.
    Cheers.

    Is $1019 a good price?

Can you tell me why you don't think its a good buy? Someone bought it that must have thought it was a good buy? You?!!!
I had a macbook pro, spilled an entire latte on it. Cannot afford to drop another 1500 on a new one. I understand the air is a great machine. And for someone that is hard on equipment (aside from liquid!) with no moving parts its a better option. This one is priced at $929 - good?
