Macbook air 2012 a strange noise on the left side

Strange noise on the left side. If i push left side button caps lock, noise is disappears. Macbook never had damage.
What could it be?

Back up everything and take it in to an Apple store for testing.

I have a MacBook Pro and since 2 days ago I'm hearing a noise of the left side of the keyboard.
The noise is constant and it looks like its from the disk. Why it can be? I'm not able to describe the noise but it sounds like the disk working but with a glitch.

It looks like the sound comes from a external port? Is that possible?
Not unless the sound is coming from somewhere else inside the machine and you hear it when your ear is pressed against the ports. None of the ports ever emit sounds by themselves.
The sound looks like a disk head rolling?
A sound can't be seen, so it can't look like anything.
In rare instances, the CPU and/or GPU can emit noises, and if the noise increases when you begin a download, perhaps that's what is happening in your machine. Take it to an Apple Store or authorized service provider to be evaluated.

Macbook air 2012 not displaying icon on the top right corner

hi guys
as the title, my macbook air isn't displaying icon on the top right corner. for instance, my volume icon and wifi icon disappear. furthermore, ocaasionally there some flashes on my screen. this never happen to me before and i am reinstalling my OS 10.8 right now. Anyone know what is wrong with my laptop?

It should not be an issue. What you are seeing is the ability to Mirror your display to an Apple TV. If you feel that there is an issue, click on the menu to see if it is actually connected to another display. Check out the article below for more information.

MacBook has a bunch of lines on the left side of the screen.

Hello all, how are you doing?
Anyways to away from all the bullcrap, my MacBook is having issues with its screen and I really don't know what to do. I didn't use it for a few days when SimCity came in, and when I finally decided to use it, it had a bunch of lines in the screen that are quite annoying. For the most part I ignored the problem because at one point all I had to do was open and close it and the lines would go away, but now there not going away and as of yesterday my entire screen has been having problems. Like a few minutes ago the entire screen was going white so I closed it and it went away, but I just want to fix this now before my screen is completely broken. One thing that I did find out with my natural curosity or experminting to fix things was that if I bent the edge of the screen on the left side, the lines go away so hopefully that's telling somehow.
Any help will be appreciated and I'll post two pictures below.

The screen or the graphic card are damaged. In your case, you have to take your MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller to have the computer repaired, because it's not a software-related issue

I dont think it is the fan, it doesn't sound like that... anyway, it is at 1997 RPM right now and there is this disturbing noise.

Strange noises from the left corner

hey ppl,
i did that firmware update and the cpu temperatur droped indeed. of course the fans got bit louder, but i knew that this will happen. but now ive got that strange electric noise coming from the left corner of the keyboard. it really suxx cause it is a bit high frequent :((
is that normal after doing that firmware-update??
i've heard that the mbp had some similar problems...
does anyone have this noise too???

Ibook keeps making weird noises on the left side near the fan vent

Recently my ibook has been making motor noises as it heats up. Sometimes I can make it go away by lifting the front or back up a lottle bit. Last time I got the noise it wouold not stop at all! I tried shutting down and letting it cool way off.....after 2 hours I started again and the noise was there immediately and would not stop. Please help!!

Welcome to the Discussions.
There are 2 things in that area with motors; the fan and the hard drive. With the noise present at a cold start I would think the hard drive might be going bad.
Launch Disk Utility (in Applications>Utilities) and highlight the drive on the left (upper most in the list). At the bottom of the window you'll see SMART status. Does it say Verified or Failing?

MacBook Air 2012 Severe Battery Drains While Sleeping

Hi there,
This isn't any new but I've looked through all posts I could.
I got a refurbished MacBook Air 2012 in July. In the first 2 weeks it worked fine (or I was noticed).
Then I noticed the battery drains fast while the system sleeps.
I have done tests in the past weeks; almost 20% of battery drain after slept a day.
I have tried everything I could: turn off PowerNap, no wake from BT devices, erase and reinstall OS
None of above helped.
I have tried to modify hibernatemode to 25 and it worked ok; 2% of battery dropped after 12 hours.
I took this to Apple in Taiwan and they told me they couldn't do anything about it because they think it's software conflicts which does't really have a solution but wait for OS updates. They did run a diagnostic and everything turns out to be fine.
I just did reinstall the OS again and I'll see whats going on tomorrow morning.
If still not getting better I will just use hibernatemode 25.
Anything recommandation is more than welcome.

Tried hibernatemode to 25 and still not helpful at all.
Battery drained 8% after 10 hours of sleep while mode 25 should put my macbook air into deep sleep and consume very minimal power.

NetInstall MacBook Air 2012

I'm struggling to NetInstall a MacBook Air 2012 and amd looking to the Apple family for help
This is the scenario:
Lion Server running 10.7.4
Download Install Mac OS X Lion.app from App Store (Build 11E53)
Use SIU to create a NetInstall Image
On MacBook Air (Build 11E2702) reboot and hold down "alt" I can see all enabled hosted images
Select the newly created NetInstall Image
MacBook Air fails to boot displaying no entry sign
Now this is where I get confused as everything I've read says that all I need to do is download the lastest version of the Lion Install app and use that create a new image
So what am I doing wrong?

Wireless deployment is not supported with the NetBoot Service. This has always been the case with Apple's own tools. Read the extremely small and informative section entitled "NetBoot and Airport" here:

To give you an idea of performance - I've deployed a 17GB Image to 6 MacBook Airs simultaneously in around 2 hours. The MBAs were placed as close as possible to the nearest 5Ghz enabled WAP for maxmimum bandwidth availability and when nothing else was on the wireless network.
As ever and depending on the quality of the network and the size of image, YMMV.

I have even bought a new Airport Extreme Router just to confirm it is not the router and it still didn't help.
I have brought all items in the same room with wired connections and still same issue.
I was thinking maybe ATV 3 might help since it has 2 wifi antennas and faster processor.
Have tried everything I could think of.
This was one of the main reasons I bought a Macbook Air for this airplay feature. Very frustrated.
Any thoughts; any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I also disabled Norton Firewall and restarted the Air and Now I'm able to use Air Play.
I know that the Apple remedy said that to do that in the support article, but I totally forgot I had that enabled..
It actually works. I can even stream to the Apple TV now through my MacBook Air.
BTW, Go into setting under the ATV, and click on update...you'll see that there was another update avaialble for the last gen of ATV...
It does have to restart twice..I guess once to download and and nother to apply.

Unfortunately if there are various colours across the screen then you have broken the LCD Screen and it will need replacing. If the colours change when you press the area lightly then this is another symptom that you've broken the screen.

it all depends on what you'll be using it for - how much apps you plan on installing - how much music you have - how much videos you plan on saving in your macbook air.
i have a 2010 and 2012 Macbook Air - both came with 128GB - for my needs - it's fine.
As you can see from the image below - that is from my 2012 Macbook Air. Still have lots of space left.

Sorry to disagree mende1. In this age of email attachments and social networks, it is actually a good idea to have a good antivirus on your system. {I realize that this is a religious argument and I will say no more}. With that said, the general concensus is that Norton AV is terrible. It is intrusive and uses up a lot of cycles.
There are a lot of better AV clients out there. I use ClamXav which is free and uses the clamav antivirus that is open source.

1. Press the F2 key couple of times.
2. Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
3. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
    "Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, contact Apple.
