Macbook air 2013 freezing at startup after yosemite update

My 2013 Mb air has started freezing at startup. performing a safe reboot seemed to help, but once I restarted immediately after rebooting it froze again. A second try apears to have done the trick, however, now my volume is completely off and non-responsive, and Safari is not really working. This is one day after updating to Yosemite.

same for my MBA 2013 model...its taking very long to show me the password box after clicking the username.....it happens everytime i restart...once it starts, everything is fine...if i had to force restart it (it froze couple of times), it takes really long to reboot...and again login is a big deal...any ideas/tips ???

  • MacBook Air Safari doesn't work after ML update

After I updated my MacBook Air 2012 to Mountain Lion yesterday, Safari stopped working. It says it's connected but Safari won't open any page.
This is the third time it happens and I'm getting sick of it (SL, Lion OS and now ML)
I had to reset my iMac (PRAM) to get it back working again, but is there another suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.

Hey I just foud this on this forum. It's worth a try :-)
Also, are you able to ping the network. Go to Terminal and type the following:ping google.com
you should get something like this:
    Arnolds-MacBook-Air:~ arnieaz$ ping google.com
    PING google.com (74.125.224.168): 56 data bytes

Re: WiFi Issues With MacBook Air
Jul 27, 2012 11:26 AM (in response to curvetr)
I had similar issues to the ones that seem to be plaguing people in this thread. However, I found a solution that worked for me, and will hopefully help you and some others!
System prefs > Network > Cog/gear button on the bottom left (sorry dont now what it's called) > Set service order.
If you find that the service order puts bluetooth ahead of Wifi, try switching Wifi up to the top spot. It worked for me. Let me know how it goes, hopefully it works!
    Best of luck, Chris

  • Freeze during startup after SW update from 10.4 - 10.4.8

After updating to 10.4.8, my machine would freeze during startup (at the gray screen with the apple and spinner) and give me the "Please restart your computer" message in a few languages.
I thought it might be a RAM issue, so I removed all third party RAM - same problem.
I replaced all of the RAM with RAM from another G5 that I know worked - same problem
I moved the HD from my G5 to another G5 that was working - same problem (I believe that eliminates the motherboard and any other components from being the problem).
I thought that the HD might be bad, so I replaced it with a brand new SATA drive, installed 10.4 and it worked perfectly, ran all of the SW updates (including the combined 10.4.8 update) and I get the same freezing again when I reboot.
    Any suggestions are appriciated!

    Hi Joe,
Welcome to the only place where you can get friendly advice.
Ok have you tried starting up from the installer / restore CD that came with the mac and run disk utility??
Try hardware test doing the extended test in a loop to try and find the base of the Kernel panic (thats what the "you need to restart your computer" image indicates)
For info and guidance on Kernel panics see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106227
    and trouble shooting info:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25392
for extensive advice on solving the kernel panics see:
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
Worst case senario it could be the G5 processors, make sure you have applecare; just in case it gets expensive!!

I can not get the computer to boot in safe mode... i CAN boot it holding commandR...but than at that point i ran disc utility and it said no errors... I truly appreciate ANY HELP!!! thank you in advance

... and i have no idea what else to do :?
Return that RAM and buy either the Crucial ram (http://www.crucial.com) for your system or buy from OWC (http://www.macsales.com). I've used Cruical ram in many systems over the years with no issues, and have bought Samsung (factory fill) from OWC with no issues either.

  • 2012 MacBook pro 13" freeze at startup with Yosemite

After restarting yesterday, my computer freezes after loading about one fourth of the way down the bar. Tried a few things including booting into safe mode, single user mode and resetting PRAM/SMC, but nothing has worked so far. Any help/suggestions are much appreciated!

    Hi Mhockey88,
It sounds like you have been on the right track in troubleshooting this issue. If you you continue to be unable to boot past this grey screen, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • Mini won't startup after Yosemite update - beeping

    Hey All -
Just updated my Mac mini 2013 to OS X Yosemite.  I left it alone for about an hour after it was finished downloading to complete the installation.  When i came back, the mini was powered off and beeping a series of 3 beeps every 5 seconds.  It won't power up.  Was starting to get quite hot so i unplugged it.
    Any suggestions??
    Jason

The 3 beep error generally indicates a problem with RAM. (i.e. bad, unseated or incompatible)
If you have upgraded the RAM modules yourself:
    1. Check to make sure that the modules are firmly seated in the slots.
    2. Compare the spec's of the RAM with the "How to" link below.
    3. Reinstall the original RAM modules that came in your Mini.
If you did not upgrade the RAM modules:
    1. Check to make sure that the modules are firmly seated in the slots.
    2. Seek help from your local Apple Authorized Service Provider.
    For reference's:
see > Mac mini: How to remove or install memory
To find an AASP, go to > https://locate.apple.com/
Lastly there are no 2013 Mac Mini's. If you bought it new in the last year or so, then you most likely have a Mid 2012 model.

Since I updated Yosemite to 10.10.3 on my MBP (late 2013, 2.3GHz i7, 16GB) it is much slower to startup (4 times longer) and the wi-fi is constantly dropping. Is there anything I can do?

  • Photoshop freezing on Mac after Yosemite update

After updating to Yosemite on my Mac a few months ago, I've suffered a whole host of problems on Photoshop CS6. First keyboard functionality would drop in and out, essentially freezing me out of my workflow. Recently Photoshop will simply freeze right after opening. It'll open, I'll attempt to alter a file, save a file, what have you, and I'll get the mac error sound, unable to click on anything. I'm forced to force quit everytime and now I'm no longer able to use the program on my desktop.
    HELP!!

Yes I did install the WhiteWindowWorkaround plug-in a while back. It may have fixed my keyboard functionality issue, but now it just keeps freezing. Most recently I've had to keep force quitting to exit Photoshop. When it reopens, it opens with a few 'recovered' files. When I try and close those, it freezes. It's maddening.

  • Muse freezes on startup after last update...

I did the latest update (as of April 19th 2012) and now when I try to open it freezes at the splash screen.  I am not sure of a work around - I am pretty much locked out.  Anyone else have this issue or any thoughts on how to resolve it?
Syste: iMac 2010 - OSX Lion

Problem solved - at least for time being. Sorry to bother others but maybe somebody else had similar problems.
So, after reinstalling Firefox several times unsuccessfully I checked the computer with Malwarebytes. And surprise, surprise, there was seven warnings about "PUP:Software.Updater". I removed them with Malwarebytes and after rebooting tried both Firefox and I Explorer and they started up nicely.
So, it was malware although I was not willing to believe it. Surprising coincidence (?) was that I discovered it after updating operating system with security fixes, Java and Flash. Has it been already on my disk waiting for that or what ? Gurus, tell me if you can !
Finally I also found similar case here which also convinced me to try that approach also if I hadn't been there yet. So, if I had been more patient going through these notes etc I wouldn't have bothered others. Sorry about that.

  • MacBook Air Camera is not connected after mac OS update

MacBook Air Camera is not connected after mac update
I have a MacBook Air OS X version - 10.9.4 . I updated my mac 1 week before but todayI check that my mac in built camera is not working Even I try to check in this thing in all the apps. Please provide  the way how to sort out this issue asap.

    Use the suggestions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
The SMC reset often fixes your problem.
Be sure you follow the instructions for your particular Mac model.
If your problem continues, restart Mac.  Then download and install OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).
If that does not correct the problem, reinstall Mac OS X.
If nothing else works, contact your Apple Service provider or Apple MacBook Support for help.

Yosemite does not recognize HP printer after upgrade.  I can print from my iPhone, but not my 13" Macbook Air (2013)
Are others having the same problems?

    Try this. Worked for me.
    - turn off your router
    - turn off you Mac's after removing all available printers
    - turn off all iDevices
    - do a factory reset of your printer remove all cables min. 30 sec.
    - turn on your router first
    - ran the network set up wizard
    - give your printer also a new name like "DeskJet 2015"
Something which you don't have used before.
    - turn on your Mac's and add your printer
    - turn on your iDevices at least.
    Should work after these steps.
It worked for me including all iDevices.
    iOS and Yosemite

Webcam not working for Macbook Air 2013 after upgrading to OSX Mavericks? Yahoo/ Google/Skype cam chats not working. Facetime works though. Any updates of Mavericks released to fix this?

I have a MacBook Pro Retina display: 15.4-inch late 2015 with OS X Mavericks install, only on second week.
Insight works on FaceTime, Skype, but yahoo program does not show insight cam in dropped down.
Now when I got my new MacBook Pro, I down loaded all new Skype (worked tested), FaceTime (Worked Tested), Yahoo (not worked)
    Fix:
With the new Maverick you have to use there messager program Version 8.0 (4218). Once I add my yahoo account video works again.
It also supported AOL, AIM, Google Talk, Jabber.
Guess I miss it frist time... hope this helps...

  • MacBook Air 2010 Very Slow (even after clean reinstall)

    Hi,
    Problem
The performance of my Macbook Air 2010 has slowed to the point where I can hardly complete basic tasks. For comparison, I use a MacBook Air 2013 at work and do not experience the same performance issues, so I believe my expectations are not unreasonably high.
    My Question
Can you please advise on what I can do to troubleshoot? I've tried the solutions listed below, all of which have failed.
I'm grateful for any help you can offer.
    Problem Description
Switching contexts or tabs, operating within applications (such as Chrome, small Excel spreadsheets, navigating files), and browsing the Internet has become a slow, laggy and crash-filled experience.
When right-clicking an icon and selecting 'Open With', Finder frequently times out or requires time to populate a list of applications.
Machine is slow to the point where, unless a solution presents itself, I'll have to get a new MacBook Air.
    What I've Tried
'Religiously' close all applications after use; extremely conscientious of number of applications running and their resource requirements.
    Clean reinstall of OS X.
Storing all media on external hard drive to create more storage space.
Clearing cache for all browsers regularly
Always running machine on battery power
    Regular reboots
    Machine Specs:
    MacBook Air 13-inch, Late 2010
    OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.2
Processor: 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB
    Storage: 87GB free of 250GB

    Thanks, dominic23.
    Unfortunately, it did not work.
-Tried starting in safe mode, resetting SMC, and repairing disk. Resetting the SMC helped upon reboot, but performance degraded swiftly and back at a low within 30-minutes.
