Macbook air 64GB upgrade?

Hi,
I am considering getting the new 64GB macbook air and I have a question. Later on if I decide I want more memory, is it possible to upgrade it via the apple store or to do it myself? I'm a bit confused because for the 128 GB one it says online "Configurable to 256GB flash storage" but not for the 64....

With Lion my advice is to get the model with 4 GBs of RAM and at least the 128 GB SSD.

Is it possible to upgrade an 11" MacBook Air 64GB to 128GB SSD?

As others have mentioned, OWC offers upgrades.  They also provide excellent instructions on their site (although, the upgrade is super easy).  They also include the screw drivers necessary to open your Air as Apple has chosen to use non-standard screws.  The SSDs are on the expensive side, but not that much out of range from standard SSDs for similar capacities.  Considering OWC is the only game in town for these, their pricing isn't that bad.  In terms of value, the 240GB seems to be the best option.

No, you can only replace the SSD with a larger one and you'll need to use a 3rd party vendor (see OWC) because Apple doesn't sell SSD upgrades.

  • Can my mid 2011 macbook air be upgraded to wifi 802.11ac?

Can my mid 2011 macbook air be upgraded to wifi 802.11ac? I am considering replacing my 802.11n router with the 802.11ac time capsule. Will this effect my download speed on my 802.11n macbook air (mid 2011)? can it be upgraded?

No, you cannot change the Wi-Fi hardware in your Mac. The Time Capsule is still worth it due to its ability to make backups of your Mac via Time Machine.

  • I have a macbook air 64gb can I purchase more storage

I have a macbook air 64gb, was wondering if I can purchase more storage or if I would need to buy the air with 128gb?

You need to buy a new one sorry
or you could buy external storage
lastly you could use a company like this

but I think it may void your warranty.

  • Cant open doc files from the server on MacBook Air after upgrading to Maverick

Cant open doc files from the server on MacBook Air after upgrading to Maverick, I can only open up docx file. Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestion! I don't use Phantasm or VectorScribe (or any Astute Graphics plugins for that matter). I do, however, have a Wacom tablet and have a few plugins that concern using Blurb Book Creator as well as LiveSurface Context.
I did the very unfortunate and foolish act of upgrading to Maverick without a backup, so postponing isn't an option for me.
I geuss my question at this point would be, would it be worthwhile to wipe all the adobe products from my harddrive and re-install them? Or would that be a useless endeavor.
I don't have an external hard-drive so backing up and re-installing the entire OS would be a bit much. Any suggestions?

  • Can i buy a smaller macbook air (64gb) but use the time capsule for additional data ?

can i buy a smaller macbook air (64gb) but use the time capsule for additional data ?

If you plan to store important "original" or "master" files and documents on the Time Capsule, then you might want to think about a way to back up those files to another hard drive.
Why? If the Time Capsule has a problem...and you have no backups....you lose everything.

  • Macbook pro to macbook air plus upgrade to lion and moving to cloud -- help!

So, I'm getting a new macbook air and I need to transfer stuff (apps, software, data, music, photos, etc.) from my macbook pro (a 2008 unibody w/a full hard drive that's got twice the storage of the air).
Should I upgrade the pro from OS 10.6.8 to lion first?
Should I move stuff to the iCloud first?
Whould I move my media (music, movies, TV shows, photos) to a hard drive first?
I'm clearly nervous about the best order of operations here so that I don't lose any of my data & media, and so I have the least awful transition experience. In the past, I've always upgraded to systems with *larger* hard drives so moving to a system with much less storage is freaking me out.
    Thanks for your help!

I took the conservative route when I migrated to the MBair.  I made a clone of my source machine, booted that and tailored it down to what I wanted on the MBair.  I left the original machine alone (with plenty of backups).
Then when I received the MBair, I connect my tailored, external disk clone and used that when setup assistant asked if I wanted to migrate another Mac to the MBair.

  • Can i send in my macbook air to upgrade the ram

i would like to know if i can send my macbook air in to apple to upgrade the ram?

They don't want hands poking around inside then a zillion calls from the hipsters that fried their mother boards.
Actually the reason is that, even on the 2012 models, the RAM is still soldered directly to the logic board.  If you order it with 8GB, it is manufactured with 8GB... it isnt' upgraded after the manufacture.  This is no different than the 2GB and 4GB options on previous Airs... only now you have an 8GB option.

No, sorry it's not.  You'll need to sell your old one and buy the i7.

The MBA officially has never been upgradeable - what you buy is what you get forever. Until the 2012 or 2013 model (I forget which) 3rd party SSDs were available but since then even 3rd party SSDs haven't appeared.

  • Would Mountain Lion require Macbook Air hardware upgrade?

I bought Macbook Air 5 days back and saw about Mountain Lion yesterday. I am having double thoughts about returning or not MBAir and buying it back after OS X MLion release. I am still arguing on this and have another 4 days before deciding.
However it is very unlikely but is there any hardware upgrade/update is anticipated with this release?
Also not sure about pricing on MLion of $129 or $29, that is also pushing me to return and wait for summer relaease?
All kind of reasoning are welcome!

Personally, I think this time of year is the worst to buy anything technology related, particularly with Macs and products with an annual release pattern. There's a lot of buzz going around about ML and new machines. Others may disagree.
Think about it this way; Apple has updated their Mac line just about every year, if not every year. It's predictable that Apple will release a computer that ships with Mountain Lion installed. What we don't know is if Apple will have an unusual launch, like it did in 2011 for the Macbook Pro (early and late models). However, if you get that computer shipping with Mountain Lion, you are stuck at 10.8 and can't uninstall and change back to 10.7 due to hardware features.
OS X 10.8 isn't due until the Summer season, so how long you can wait may be of concern. Waiting is always a better option, since you will get newer technology at the same/lower price. Do you need your Mac right away? Can you go without it until the speculation clears up? Most importantly, are you satisfied with your purchase? Will you have regrets later?
As I have said, no one will know 100% if Mountain Lion will complement new Mac models. But, based on past releases, I say yes.

  • Should I return my MacBook Air to upgrade to a MacBoook Pro?

I recently bought a MacBook Air with 4 GB of ram, 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB for $850. However, I today found a refurbished MacBook Pro for sale with 8 GB of ram, 2.6 GHz intel Core i5 processor, and intel iris graphics for $1099. Should I return my MBA and buy the MBP for the $250 more? Is the faster RAM, processing speeds, and graphics worth $250? I often play league of legends but other than that I only use my laptop lightly, Microsoft and some web browsing.

If the MBP has the Retina display, then it is definitely worth it. The 13" MBP is not that much bigger than the Air. And the 4GB RAM in the Air will not be enough if you plan on keeping it for 3-4 years.
I too wanted the Air because of form factor but I settled on the 13" MBP. The Retina display and the 8GB of RAM make a pretty noticeable difference.

  • Why it took too much time to buy Macbook air with upgraded in Cambodia re-sellers apple license shop, it is already 3 months and still not come yet.

I have ordered a Macbook air 11' since April 2013, until now I do not receive yet. The store in Cambodia was accredited by Apple as product resellers. They told me that the apple distributer is not responded to their request. UMMMH

Read your post twice, however it contains one glaring error, you only mention a "NEW" battery in the last paragraph.  I love your spirit of fixing the Air , I used to fix laptops long ago.    So what is a "NEW" battery vs. a new battery. CLARIFY.
Alas however days of "fixing" things on notebooks ended a long time ago, now its just:
    1.locate bad
    2. toss bad part
    3. insert new part
Only 3 important sections in the above post:
The new I/O board works, but only when the battery isn't plugged in to the logic board. Once I unplug the battery, the AC charger's green light goes on and it'll boot. If I plug the old battery in, the green light goes on and the computer will boot, but it still says no battery is installed.
My first step was to open it up and look for corrosion. There was a bit and I spent a few days cleaning it off with a kids' toothbrush and 99% alcohol
battery connector on logic......, but there was rust on half of the connectors
    Your logic board is kaput.
However since your information above is contradictory about "new" battery, since you dont indicate anywhere you HAVE 2 batteries, mere corrosion at the logic board is insufficient to determine dead logic board, ...try ANOTHER battery as last eliminative causation.
If 2 batteries fault, your logic board is dead
Salvage parts for resale, cost of logic replacement and removing (I assume a good SSD) the SSD is too high vs.  a new Air, or a "new" used Air.
