Macbook air and making things larger
i was able to make most things larger in my macbook air's mail program, i like to view it the older way.
have not been able to make the area of the Mailbox names larger, the section on the left side, does anyone know they type of font it is and how to make it larger.
also on safari the tab bar words are way to small for me, any way to get them larger?
I don't exactly know what you want to sync or what kind of expectations you had but I keep my MBA in sync with my desktop (iMac) for some of the content. I use a program called Synk to keep various folders the same so I can take stuff home or on the road to work on. There are other such programs. It is not exactly hands off as little things can cause conflicts in the sync process but it works well enough for me with a little oversight. My mail is "synced" because I use IMAP. If you had MobileMe you could also sync contacts and calendars. There are other options for that as well (e.g. Dropbox). To go beyond that, I guess you could backup everything (at least user files) to a portable drive on one machine and then restore that backup to the other computer but I think that would be too tedious.

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, testing after each one, until it's resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
Follow the directions in this support article.
Step 2
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device.
Step 3
Open the Keychains folder as in Step 1. There should be a file in that folder with the name "login.keychain". If there is also a file iwith the name "login_renamed_1.keychain", then please do as follows:
Rename login.keychain to "login-old.keychain".
Rename login_renamed_1.keychain to "login.keychain".
You can then close the folder.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Delete the login keychain from the keychain list. Choose Delete References when prompted, not Delete References & Files.
Select
File ▹ Add Keychain...
from the menu bar. Add back the file now named "login.keychain". If any of your needed keychain items are missing from it, also add back the file now named "login-old.keychain". I suggest you transfer any needed items from that keychain to the login keychain, then delete it. The transfers are made by drag-and-drop in Keychain Access. You'll need to enter your password for each item transferred.
Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access. -
I want to make a bootable usb drive for my macbook air,and my system is osx mountain lion 10.8.5. How can i download it again without repaying for it so i can make my bootable flashdrive? I'm pretty new at this computer stuff so i don't know how things work.

your computer has what is called a recovery partition that came with it.
simply hold cmd+R while you boot up. let go a second after you hear the chime.
you will boot into the recovery partition.
Use disk utlity to format your usb drive and then exit Disk utlity and go to Reinstall Mountain Lion.
it will ask you which disk you want to install ML onto. Choose your new USB drive.

My MacBook Air is making a clicking noise every 7 seconds for 2 seconds. It started today, and I have had the computer for almost a year. It is below the power switch and annoying enough that it is hard to even work with the computer. It sounds as if a hard drive is trying to work. No applications running. Ideas?
If its a MBA with solid state drive then I would guess its the fan touching something ???. I think it have no other moving parts.

I have been using a 2012 Mac pro to do HD video editing. I bought a new portable Macbook Air only to find that Maverick no longer has "open files in a new window" which I use all the time in the very large folders of video clips and royalty-free music. I asked at the Apple Store how I could get this back on the Macbook Air and they said it couldn't be done so I thought I would re-format the HD and install 10.7 on it and was notified by the Macbook Air I can't put 10.7 on that computer. Apple use to give this as an option but now they have gone more to the attitude of "Do it our way or go to ****!" In anger I went out and bought a Dell Laptop and Pinnacle Studio 17 which I have been learning to use. I have been an Apple/Mac user since 1979 and would still rather do my video editing on a Mac. Is there any way that I can force the Macbook Air to let me load in OSX 10.7 where there is still the option to "open files in a new window" or is there a way to add this to Maverick? The experts at the Madison, WI Couldn't give me any help on this.
Choose Preferences from the Finder menu, click on the General tab, and uncheck the box to open folders in a new tab.

My iPhone and iPad are on my moms icloud account and i just got a macbook air and i want all my devices on my own iCloud account - i went to all of my settings and it won't let me change my iCloud account on my phone and iPad. can i change this?
You will have to do more than simply changing settings in your moms account. To set up everything in your own account, go to Settings > iCloud > scroll down and press sign out. Before you set that up, you will have to make a new iCould account which you can simply do after you sign out of your mom's account on your devices.

MacBook Air and Mac Mini Combination
I am trying to decide between a new (rumored to be out soon) MacBook Pro 15'' or a MacBook Air. If I take the latter option, I will need an accessible hard drive onto which to offload my photos, videos, and other large files. Would the combination of a MacBook Air and a Mac Mini work well for this? Could I use the MacBook Air essentially as the monitor for the Mac Mini when I am using its hard-drive? Are there any other drawbacks or compromises I should think about? Thank you in advance.

If you're looking for an external storage solution, for the same cost of the Mac Mini you can get a 1.0TB Time Capsule. If you're looking for a computer to pair with the MBA, for the sake of disc sharing and such then the Mac Mini is a great option. But if you're looking for a machine to serve as a data storage unit, then it's definitely not a good choice.
External hard drives range from 5GB to 1TB, get something that fits your needs. The cost of a 250, 320 or 500GB are extremely reasonable. -
I am out of space on my Macbook Air and have a Time Machine Backup. I want to complete reset my mac, but wonder if I can pick and choose what I restore to my computer? Can I also use my time machine backup as external storage as well for the files I don't need everyday?
If you are using "Restore from Time Machine Backup" option from OS X Recovery, you can only choose from the broad categories presented.

To be clear, if you are asking if you can use the volume containing your Time Machine backup to store additional, non-Time Machine files, the short answer is yes.
It's not a good idea though, since the Time Machine backup will eventually fill all available space, after which it begins to remove old, "expired" backups to make room for newer ones. The presence of additional files doesn't change that fact, and Time Machine will not erase them, but you will encounter a dilemma should you want to store additional files on that volume when there is no remaining space. You will have to make room for them on your own, by deleting existing files. Furthermore, since Time Machine cannot back up its own volume, those additional files will not be backed up by Time Machine.
The easy solution for what you describe is to purchase additional external storage. External USB hard disk drives have become very inexpensive; about $55 will buy a perfectly suitable 1 TB drive.
You can also choose to replace your MacBook Air's internal storage with a larger capacity one. Look for a suitable replacement from OWC / MacSales:

That gets a little more expensive but it is the optimum solution. -

If you move live files (files you don't want to lose) to an external drive, you need to back them up. Any files not backed up are at risk of loss. Hard drives and SSDs can fail at any time. It is hard to backup a Time Capsule so a TC should be used only as a backup device.
Do you have a Time Machine backup now? If so, and if it is large enough, you can backup your internal and external disk to it using Time Machine. If not, you all need to purchase an external drive or TC as your backup device. (I recommend an external hard drive for backup instead of a TC.) Ideally the backup drive should be twice the size of what you are backing up but 50% larger will work so if you have an external 1 TB disk and an internal 250 GB SSD then a 2 TB backup disk will work well.
By default, Time Machine will not backup the external disk. You need to remove it from the exclusions list:
To have Time Machine backup your system disk and your external offload disk up onto your Time Machine disk:

I keep looking for the solution to wifi dropping constantly, but just can't understand the answers, let alone follow the instructions. Can anyone please explain in 'baby' language how to stop wifi constantly dropping on my MacBook Air and iPads 2 and 3. That is correct, so I have just been told!! Our Router is a D-Link DSL-2640R which we access via typing 192.168.1.1 into our Internet Explorer Browser on a Windows PC computer. All this has been working for years. The Summary page for the Router shows Internet, DSL and Wireless are all connected and working fine. We have changed the channel to 11 which has made things faster and is not in conflict with nearby systems, but wi-fi still drops on the Mac and iPads. I have only had this problem for a matter of a few weeks. Before that all worked perfectly fine.

hi. i currently have a heavy 15" macbook pro with i7 dual core 2.66GHz processors.
i travel a lot and am really thinking about getting a macbook air.
i want to know if any logic users are on the new 13" macbook air and how they find it.
can it run large sessions ok?
do you miss the firewire port or a larger screen?
does it get super hot after heavy use and does this drain the battery?

Book a session online at your local Apple store, front up to the Genius Bar and see what happens. Or just drop by and ask them if there's a support charge.
You may be able to just simply download Mavericks via the Mac App Store. See the Apple website for details on which Mac support Mavericks, you should be fine with a 2011 model.
But by all means do a backup first. Connect your WD drive to the last operating system it was connected to and Format the drive (warning: erases everything)
Then connect it to your Mac and you should be able to Format the Drive for the Mac using something like Disk Utility. Launchpad>Other>Disk Utility. the rest should be follow your nose from there. But before you do all this, consider creating partitions (individual sections on the hard drive) 1 for Time Machine, 2 for Audio samples, loops etc. 3 for "Other" and 4 for something we both haven't even thought of yet.
You should think about the capacity that each partition will need. For example it may be a good idea to allocate 250GB for Time Machine so you can have multiple backups. But you should probably should only backup data like files instead of Applications otherwise you'll run out of room because you're gonna need room for Audio which could fill half your drive or more. And that doesn't leave room for much else like Docs and receipts, photos and any other plans you have for world domination.
I know it my be getting confusing so see a Apple Genius, they really are nice people even if they do have piercings and tattoos.
Don't forget to check out Computer Music mag because you'll churn out the tunes and become rich and famous overnight...... (that was a lie)

Debating between 13" Macbook Air and 13" Macbook Pro
Primarilly will be using it with Adobe CS6 (AI, PS and ID). Nothing too intensive and I would be planning on upgrading to the 8gb ram. I know on the older Macbook Air there were problems running OpenGl 2.0. I could care less about the lack of optical drive on the Macbook Air. I guess what I would like to know is... is anyone here running Cs6 on the new Macbook Air and how are they finding it? Would it be a better option to go with the Macbook Pro?
Thanks!The "graphics team" that I support for my department have two 13" MacBook Airs (Mid 2011) and they're very pleased with them, both users run CS6 on them. I know one of them will even run their machine on a 27" monitor at 1920x1200 and I've never heard a peep out of them in regards to sluggishness. I suspect the newer machines with 8GB of RAM, a faster SSD and RAM as well as an improved GPU would be even better.
One thing you can also consider doing is trying out Adobe CS6 on the new machines at an Apple Store. I frequently bring external HDs with me to the Apple Store to try programs before I'll make a petition to purchasing for upgraded units. As long as the program can run self-contained on an external drive you should be just fine. I did with with CS5 about 8 months ago.
Lastly, outside of the CPU difference, the MacBook Air has very mostly the same "under the hood" specs. The difference in CPU would be offset by the improved performance of the SSD over the standard HD, at least that's what I've noticed from my own experiences and the feedback of my users. -
After update to MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0 screen start flicking
I've just updated my macbook pro 15" retina with Macbook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0 from App store (just this update).
After that, every time it goes on the screen saver or if I close it, I can't get it back on, the screen starts flicking black.
There is no away I can enter the password, even the keyboard is flicking.
I have to force the macbook pro power off and on in order to use it.

After macbook air and macbook pro backup on tc wifi is very slow
I have been great with my macbook air and the time capsule. Everything was working perfect til I just got a macbook pro, I just did a backup and now the wifi is down to 0.02mbps. The weird issue: if I turn off the pro, the wifi goes back to 6mbps. Any suggestions? Thanks.
The two are interfering with each other.. or one is bouncing the other.
Remember wireless has limited bandwidth.. AC or not.. and it is divided (time sliced) between all the clients.. so if the MBP has the right settings it might be capturing the connection.
There are a few things you can do.
1. Check if both computers are linking at the same speed and on the same band.
Hold down the option key and click on the wifi symbol top right menu.. and check the exact values on each.. perhaps give us a screenshot from each computer.
Looks like this.
2. Force the connection to different bands.
Use a different name for 5ghz and 2.4ghz.. eg as you can see.. TC5ghz and TC24ghz are my correctly named wireless from TC.. (short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric)
I can then force units to join the band I want it to. -
Hi folks! My MacBook Air is making awkward little chipping sound... For no apparent reason. My Macbook Pro does the same. Goes like "chip... chip... chip", always three times in a row, for no apparent reason. Does anyone know how this occurs?
It seems to be linked to the sound being on. When I mute the thing, it doesn't do it. When I plug headphones into it, it does it over the headphones.
