MacBook Air and Snow Leopard Internet Problem

I have installed 10.6.1 on a first generation MacBook Air. After the installation I cannot connect to the Internet over WiFi. I used the wireless connection with my iMac Intel also with 10.6.1. Everything went fine except that I can no longer connect to the Internet using WiFi although I've tried three different hotspots to do this.

HI,
Try a different channel in Airport Utility.
Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a computer using Mac OS X.
Select the device you’re setting up, and then click Manual Setup. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.

  • Macbook pro and snow leopard

I want to update my 2.2 15" macbook pro to Snow leopard, and then to lion, but I am a little aprehensive because of some postings I have seen about the upgrade causing macbook pro's to overheat.  Is there any truth to this?
    Thanks

Below are the specs for Snow Leopard:
    *General requirements*
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of free disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

  • MacBook Pro and Sow Leopard video problem

When I connect MacBook Pro using Snow Leopard to LCD projector, the projected image is very problematic. Two symptoms. First, the video has a flicker to it. Second. menu lists have overlapping double and triple images so they cannot be selected accurately. The result is that demonstrations of sofware such as Final Cut pro cannot be done effectviely. Does this sound like a vieocard giving up and needing logic board replacement?

    Thanks for your reply.
In the Print and Scan Preference how many printers do you have installed? - one.
If only one which I assume is USB, try installing the Cannon as a network printer. - It doesn't specify that it is connected by USB. It says that it is "in use, Default". There is a tick in the box alongside "Share this printer on the network". Is there somewhere else that I need to access to install it as a network printer?
If you have already installed it as a network printer  open the print queue from the Print and Scan. Click on the Printer Menu and run Netwrok Diagnostics.
I entered the print queue but there is no option to click on Network Diagnostics because it is greyed out.
    There are tick boxes alongside:
    Screen sharing
    File sharing
    Printer sharing
    Scanner sharing
    Remote login
    Remotemanagement
    Remote Apple events
    Internet sharing
    Bluetooth sharing
with a tick alongside Printer sharing.
    Many thanks.

I have recently updated my 2.3gHz macbook pro to Snow Leopard. Since this time, the ctrl and option keys do not work in termnial or iterm. However, if I use an external keyboard, everything behaves as expected. I cannot seem to find anyone else who has had this issue or even where to look to try and fix it. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you for the help.

  • Mac mini and Snow leopard wireless problems

    Hi,

Reading other posts i found out that there is a snow leopard issues with connecting to wireless network, but this problem seems to unique. When i connect to wireless network it shows me that, mac mini is connected to wireless network but doesn't take ip address from dhcp , its show some self assigned ip which is 169.254.226.163, but my network address are 192.168.1.*, ethernet works fines, but in wireless even when i gave manual ip , it connect but i cannot connect to internet neither i can ping to router.
I tried various methods suggests in forms, like deleting network preference files in /Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Preferences and also deleting network connection and adding new one, even updating to 10.6.3 but nothing works for me,

Thanks DaddyPaycheck for your initial response. Before I jump onto the phone with Comcast couple of questions that I have for clarification purposes:
    1) Are you implying that I must link my blabla.com address to that static IP address through my Domain Provider? See following example:
Record Type Record Host Record Answer TTL
    A *.blablat.com >>Static IP<< 300
    2) The current IP I have been given 60.172.151.254, why is that not static or how do you know it is not static?
    3) When executing the command host in terminal for this IP address it returns the following: c-60-172-151-254.hsdl.co.comcast.net which coincidentally is the same as primary DNS it recommended during the initial configuration of the Mini Server. What does this mean? When I enter this in Safari it results in 'Safari can't connect to server'.
    4) Executing the same command for my domain name 'blabla.com' it results in my 'internal' IP address '1.0.10.9'.
Thanks in advance for any clarification you can provide,
    Tiest.

  • Dual Core Macbook (2006) and Snow Leopard

I was ready to pre-order Snow Leopard, but now I'm not sure. I accept that it won't work with my ancient G4, or my old Mac Mini. But ...
My wife's Macbook has Dual Core 2. No problem. Mine, however, is the very first Macbook - with only a Dual Core processor (without the "2")
Anybody have a clue whether or not I'm in an unfortunate technological gap?

There are no compelling reasons not to upgrade, but I always suggest you examine the information on the upgrade to decide if you really need it. No matter what the upgrade involves it's likely that some older applications may no longer work with the new version. I would not upgrade until you know your mission critical applications will work with the new version. If you want to try it out then install it on another hard drive you can use. That way you can test out the new version without making any changes to your normal system.

  • Macbook Air with Snow Leopard is freezing

I have a first gen, fully updated, Macbook Air currently running Snow Leopard.
Every once in a while, my computer completely freezes. No pinwheel, just a freeze. I can see the cursor, but I can't move it. It happens every few minutes and the freezes last for 10-30 seconds (sometimes even longer).
It doesn't have to do with heat because sometimes this will happen right when I open my computer. And sometimes it will do it after I've been working for an hour or so. Also, it's not limited to the programs that it does it on. It could be Firefox, MS Word, or no program at all.
It's very random, but it's happening more and more often (just happened while typing this question!! about a minute long freeze)

Check your Activity Monitor and see what your CPU power and memory are doing. How full is your hard drive?

  • Time Machine and Snow Leopard installation problem

I'm trying to install Snow Leopard, but keep getting an error saying that my hard drive is used for time machin back ups. I have unplugged my external device, turned off time machine, yet this keeps happening. What am I doing wrong? I have been able to install Leopard on the computers that I haven't used time machine.

    BusyChris18 wrote:
    1) Do I have to do anything special with Time Machine BEFORE I install SL? I have been doing regular backups with TM.
Do a "final" backup and turn TM off.
    2) should Time machine disc be off/disconnected when I do the install?
It's safest to eject and disconnect it, "just in case."
    3) After I reconnect TM disc after SL install, do I have to "migrate" stuff from TM? OR will it just do a new backup and work like normal from that point forward.
If you do the normal install, there's no migration needed. 99.9 % of everything will be fine. In some rare cases of 3rd-party apps putting things in unusual places, there may be a problem, and you may need to re-enter some 3rd-party app purchase codes.
If you erase the drive, then install SL, then yes, of course, you'll have to transfer your data. There should be no reason to do that, but some folks seem to do it out of habit. If you do that, when your Mac boots up again, you can transfer your data from the TM backups. And if you do that, I'd strongly recommend making a separate full backup on a second external drive, again "just in case," preferably a "bootable clone." CarbonCopyCloner and SuperDuper are the most common. (There was a post here just last week where someone did this, the restore got to 99%, then BAM! the TM disk failed.)
TM backups should just continue normally, although there will almost certainly be a long "Calculating Changes" phase (used to be called "Preparing"). And they've added a progress bar, which doesn't seem to be particularly accurate.
However, it may try a new, full backup. If it does, cancel the backup and do a Restart. That may reset whatever confused it. If not, there's nothing you can do to prevent it.
    4) Will I be able to access files that were backuped when I have just Leopard?
    Yes.

  • MacBook Air and Safari movie download problems

I bought a new MacBook Air in August 2013 (OS 10.8.5). After migrating all my files from my iMac I have encountered problems with downloading movies that are playing in Safari (v 6.0.5). On my iMac (OS 10.6.8) and Safari (v 5.1.10) I could go under "Window", select "Activity" and see the files associated with the movie. I could select the movie that was playing, copy the url & then past it into "Downloads" (also under the "Window"). The movie would then download to my preferred folder & I could then view it on my iMac. I can't find the "Activity" or the "Downloads" options under the "Window". How do I get the movies to download now?
    Thanks,
    John..

The next time you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

  • Cs3 and snow leopard spaces problem

    Hi,
Panic over about cs3, because even though Adobe is not supporting it, it seems to work ok. Touch wood. Hopefully I won't come across any annoying problems which affect my workflow. I want to wait for cs5 to upgrade.
A problem with spaces might be related to cs3 but might be a snow leopard problem.
If I drag an image over the photoshop icon, it opens that in the photoshop assigned space. If I then drag a file over the Illustrator icon, it opens it in the SAME space, not the Illustrator assigned space.
i think this is a snow leopard bug, has anyone else experienced it. It's annoying and if it is a bug hope apple fix it asap because it renders spaces useless. The whol epoint is for each app to stay in its own space not start overlapping again, causing me to have to minimise windows to see underneath.

Adobe CS 3 didn't place nice in Leopard's spaces so I think you are looking at an Adobe bug, not a new SL bug. Don't know if CS 4 does any better with Spaces or not. I'm seriously looking for alternatives to Adobe's software - they've taken on the same 'we know best - we are god' attitude Microsoft did in the mid 90s'

  • 2007 Macbook Pro and Snow Leopard

After the upgrade to snow leopard my macbook pro won't start anymore, it does spin up, chimes and then just has a black screen, no pointer, can't use the function buttons. I have tried all the usual suggested reboots, nothing works, any ideas for a "at home fix"?

    Try reinstalling:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Canon ip4000r won't install on MacBook Pro or MacBook Air with Snow Leopard

Our MBA, MBP, iMac and Mini all worked flawlessly with my Canon ip4000r while running Leopard. However, the ip4000r disappeared from all 4 with Snow Leopard. I have since downloaded and installed the updated drivers on all four machines, but only the iMac and Mini have detected and installed the ip4000r. The MBP and MBA both refuse to install the ip4000r.
The printer is detected by (and manageable/configurable by) the Canon IJ Printer Utility and Canon IJ Network Tool apps on both machines; however, whenever I attempt to add the printer, it is not detected by the Add Printer utility. I have downloaded and tried drivers directly from Canon (ip4000rosxcp102600ea8-2.dmg) and from the Apple support site (the 2.1 update) -- neither of which has worked. I have spent over a week on this and am at a loss as to why the printer installs on the desktop machines (iMac and the Mini), but not on the portables (MBP and MBA). Any ideas?
    Thanks!

The 10.26 driver includes a network protocol, canonijnetwork, that is used to advertise the printer on your wireless network. To add the network printer using this driver, you use the Default browser view. The previous method of More Printers > Canon IJ Network is not used anymore.
Note that if Canon IJ Network is still available on your Mac then it is a leftover from upgrading from Leopard. A clean install of 10.6 and v2.70 of the Canon IJ Network Tool will not add this view.
So with the 10.26 driver installed, select to Add and then the Default browser view. The printer can take as long as 20 seconds to appear. When it does appear, it will show its name with its MAC address in brackets, such as (00.00.85.xx.xx.xx). Also, in the Kind column, canonijnetwork will be shown. Select this entry and the Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon iP4000R.
If the printer does not show after 30 seconds then something could be blocking this. The built-in firewall, located in System Preferences > Security > Firewall, can stop the network printer being displayed. Also, the Parallels application, that lets you run Windows in a virtual machine on your Mac, is also known to stop the printer from being seen. If you do have Parallels, then you will need to disable the virtual network ports. Not quite sure how this is done but if you check this forum or the Parallels web site, you should be able to find the workaround.

  • I have a MacBook Air with Snow Leopard. I can read/write in both directions with 16 GB Fat32 drives but cannot with a 250GB NTFS drive.

I have a MacBook Air. I also have a 250GB NTFS external drive which the Mac sees. i can copy and paste from the external drive to the Mac but not from the Mac to the external drive. However, I can go in both directions with a Fat32 16 GB flashdrive. Can anyone explain this to me?

I've always recommented ext3 filesystem if you wanna use an external drive for both Windows and Mac OS as both can read and write to that filesystem.
But obviously you'd have to format the drive (you can use Mac disk utility)
