Macbook air and traveling to europe.

Hello I know that laptop is safe to plug in without a converter just an adapter but my question is what about devices that are not safe to charge over there. For example what about my camera that can only charge at 110 can i plug it in to my Air to charge while my air is plugged into Europes 240 grid? Or does my computer carry the 240 through USB?
Have a late 2010 Macbook Air 11' base model

What camera do you have? I have Nikon, Pentax, Kodak and Canon digital cameras with proprietary batteries, and the chargers supplied work in Europe and in the US, with only an adaptor for the socket type. The chargers cover 100-240v 50-60 cycles. Perhaps European customers are given dual voltage whereas US customers are not?
I can't think that the MBA USB would be affected by the local voltages. All the power lead does is charge the battery and pass current to enable the hardware to work.
However, you do need someone with more specific knowledge than I have to answer you.

Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh
Just download and install 5.7.1. Don't worry about earlier versions.
You'll need to enter your serial number to license the software.

  • Is there a special inverter to use with my MacBook Pro when traveling in Europe?

Is there a special inverter to use with my MacBook Pro when traveling in Europe?

No, it will handle the voltages there:
    From http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.html
    Electrical and operating requirements:
Line voltage: 100V to 240V AC
    Frequency: 50Hz to 60Hz
You might need a plug adapter to change the pin shape in some countries.

  • Macbook air and logic pro?

hi. i currently have a heavy 15" macbook pro with i7 dual core 2.66GHz processors.
i travel a lot and am really thinking about getting a macbook air.
i want to know if any logic users are on the new 13" macbook air and how they find it.
can it run large sessions ok?
do you miss the firewire port or a larger screen?
does it get super hot after heavy use and does this drain the battery?
thanks for chipping in... appreciate it!

Sorry, I could have made myself clearer. Even though my Macbook is out of warranty I still get Genius Bar support without charge. Book a session online at your local Apple store, front up to the Genius Bar and see what happens. Or just drop by and ask them if there's a support charge.
You may be able to just simply download Mavericks via the Mac App Store. See the Apple website for details on which Mac support Mavericks, you should be fine with a 2011 model.
But by all means do a backup first. Connect your WD drive to the last operating system it was connected to and Format the drive (warning: erases everything)
Then connect it to your Mac and you should be able to Format the Drive for the Mac using something like Disk Utility. Launchpad>Other>Disk Utility. the rest should be follow your nose from there. But before you do all this, consider creating partitions (individual sections on the hard drive) 1 for Time Machine,  2 for Audio samples, loops etc.  3 for "Other"  and  4 for something we both haven't even thought of yet.
You should think about the capacity that each partition will need. For example it may be a good idea to allocate 250GB for Time Machine so you can have multiple backups. But you should probably should only backup data like files instead of Applications otherwise you'll run out of room because you're gonna need room for Audio which could fill half your drive or more. And that doesn't leave room for much else like Docs and receipts, photos and any other plans you have for world domination.
I know it my be getting confusing so see a Apple Genius, they really are nice people even if they do have piercings and tattoos.
Don't forget to check out Computer Music mag because you'll churn out the tunes and become rich and famous overnight...... (that was a lie)
LPX may appear intimidating at first but it'll all make sense in baby steps.

  • MacBook Air and Pro buzz when connected to French Power

My MacBook Air and Pro laptops buzz in a pronounced way when plugged into French power sources (Martinique, Paris, Aix-en-Provence).  They are American computers, and I use the adapters from the Apple World Traveler kit.  Sometimes I use a regular wall adapter when I want to use the extension cord, as World Traveler doesn't allow this.  The computers work fine, but I'm in French territory a lot and I worry that the buzz, which only happens when the computers are plugged in, is doing some long-term damage.  I feel the buzz the most when touching the computers very lighly.  Thanks~

Sounds like your adapter is not earthing properly? Change it ASAP.
Might be worth picking up a pukka French power supply if you are over here a lot too.

  • Can macbook air and 24" Imac/Leopard 10.5.2 achieve file synchronization

To renew my three year old Apple machines, I have chosen to use one macbook air and one 24" Imac. The questions are:
    1. can these two machines be set up to harmonically synchronize and keep all document files (mostly text) between them up-to-date when next to each other again?
    2. can all email folders (received and sent) be synchronized as above
My work requires that the macbook air should be traveling with me and I would need to fully synch both machines upon returning to base.
I am requesting any possible/feasible well tried/applied solution with Apple and Mac products.
All advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

    Welcome to the Apple forums:
You might try DiskWarrior as another tool.
I would personally shy away from using FileVault. It turns your user folder into a huge single file and TM only backs it up after you log out. And each backup is a full backup (not incremental) because any change to any item in your user folder means that the entire FileVaulted folder has changed. So TM quickly fills up your backup HD.
If you have the need for security, I suggest using a FlashDrive for the data. There is no reason to encrypt all the apps, AFAIK, but only the data.
Some have had good luck using Ubuntu. Create a bootable system DVD or CD and copy your HD contents to a backup drive and work from there. But with FV, that may not be very helpful.

  • HT5621 How do I change the Apple ID stored on my MacBook Air?  I have changed my Apple ID on the Apple ID website, but both my MacBook Air and my iMac show the old Apple ID when accessing iCloud.

How do I change the Apple ID that is stored on my MacBook Air.  I have changed my Apple ID on the Apple ID website but both my MacBook Air and my iMac show the old Apple ID when accessing iCloud.

I had this problem on my iMac and fixed it after a  half hour of frustrated trying.  I had changed my Apple ID on my iPad mini while traveling.  When I finally got back home after a few months, I couldn't  log in to iTunes on my iMac.  The old Apple ID was still being used on my iMac.  I tried just highlighting it and deleting it and typing in my new Apple ID.  No dice. The login just defaulted to my old Apple ID.  I tried clicking on the drop down menu that appears when you right right click your Apple ID  that appears at the top of the page after highlighting the 'iTunes Store" in the left side list.  I saw "account" so I clicked on that.  The "account" settings on my iMac showed my new Apple ID but my iMac wouldn't use it. It just kept defaulting to my old ID. I shut down.  I logged back in.  Same result.  Finally I right clicked the same drop down menu and saw "sign out" at the bottom of the list.  Even though I was not signed in to iTunes, I clicked "sign out".  My next log in to iTunes showed my Apple ID as blank and I was able to type in my new ID.  Hope this helps.
I am a long time 20 year Microsoft user. I am somewhat ( 1 year) new to Apple. With Microsoft, I found that fixing problems was clunky and complex, but there was always a post somewhere that explained the fix. Microsoft's explanations stated even the most obvious fact. Even if everyone knew that the sky was blue, Microsoft's instructions would still tell you that the sky was blue.  With Apple, I find that the obvious is sometimes not so obvious.  But the fix is almost always easy once you find it, without many of the elaborate maneuvers needed in Windows.

  • I have a new MAcBook Air and my photos don't fit on the internal hard drive.  I want to store my photos on an external hard drive which I will connect to my Air when using Iphoto.  How do I set an external hard drive as the default drive?

I have a new MAcBook Air and my photos don't fit on the internal hard drive.  I want to store my photos on an external hard drive which I will connect to my Air when using Iphoto.  How do I set an external hard drive as the default drive in Iphoto?

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • I just got the mid 2011 macbook air and it does not have ilife or iPhoto on it...isnt it supposed to come with it? and if it does then how do i get it on the mac without having to pay for it in the app store?

I just got a macbook air and i thought that it was supposed to come with ilife already installed? But there is not ilife apps...how do i get  it on the laptop without having to buy them all from the app store if it was supposed to come with it?

    From the iPhoto Licence:
    3. Transfer.
    A. Apple Software obtained from the Mac App Store is not transferable. If you sell your Apple-branded hardware to a third party, you must remove the Apple Software from the Apple-branded hardware before doing so.
    B. For any preinstalled Apple Software, you may make a one-time permanent transfer of all of your license rights to the Apple Software (in its original form as provided by Apple) to another party, provided that: the Apple Software is transferred together with your Apple-branded hardware; (ii) the transfer must include all of the Apple Software, including all its component parts, printed materials and this License; (iii) you do not retain any copies of the Apple Software, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; (iv) you have not associated the Apple Software with your Mac App Store account as set forth in Section 2B; and (v) the party receiving the Apple Software reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of this License.
If the previous owner accepted the preinstalled software (iPhoto, etc) to the AppleID, it cannot be passed on to a new owner. Even if the previous owed would use her or his Applied to install it for you, you would never be able to reinstall it or to update it.
In that case buy your own copies of the software.

  • Can I use a memory stick to back up my MacBook Air and what size do I need?

    i Have a MacBook air , processor 1.3 Ghz Intel core i5, 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. Operating on OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.1.
it will not open up Safari, it crashed out of Safari with an error message and will not ooen it up now however many times I try.  I was reading Daily Mail on line at the time.  I can get onto the Internet by using Chrome but it feels as if Chrome is in charge of me rather than the other way round.  when I type in an address it just takes me where it wants to go rather than the website I want to to.  I now want to back up my data but left my drive in UK (I am in USA at the moment.) so wondered if I can back all my data (very important data) on to a memory stick so I can wipe my computer and start again.  I have an appointment with a techie at the Apple shop on Saturday but need to back up my data before the appointment, so not sure what to do.
ALso my IPad is very unstable after using the Daily Mail site, it has always seemed to be fine before but this weekend seems to have created problems for both my MacBook Air and IPad Mini...

You'd probably be better served to use a conventional external USB:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/
Easier to use, harder to lose and more dependable.

"generally speaking, a HDD (or SSD) is always going to be more reliable than a flash drive. USB flash drives are made to TRANSFER files, not to store them. Still, you get what you pay for, and I have had a few flash drives that have lasted a very long time"

Click on the blue Internet Recovery in nbar's post. That is a link to what computers can run Internet Recovery.
Do a backup,  preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.
    OS X Recovery
    OS X Recovery (2)
When you reboot, use Setup Assistant to restore your data.

  • How can I put OSX 10.7 on a new Macbook Air. Maverick no longer allows "open file in a new window" and I really miss it. At the Apple Store they told me it can't be added to the new OSX 10.10 so I  want to change the OSX on the new Macbook Air and it

I have been using a 2012 Mac pro to do HD video editing. I bought a new portable Macbook Air only to find that Maverick no longer has "open files in a new window" which I use all the time in the very large folders of video clips and royalty-free music. I asked at the Apple Store how I could get this back on the Macbook Air and they said it couldn't be done so I thought I would re-format the HD and install 10.7 on it and was notified by the Macbook Air I can't put 10.7 on that computer. Apple use to give this as an option but now they have gone more to the attitude of "Do it our way or go to ****!" In anger I went out and bought a Dell Laptop and Pinnacle Studio 17 which I have been learning to use. I have been an Apple/Mac user since 1979 and would still rather do my video editing on a Mac. Is there any way that I can force the Macbook Air to let me load in OSX 10.7 where there is still the option to  "open files in a new window" or is there a way to add this to Maverick? The experts at the Madison, WI Couldn't give me any help on this.

Choose Preferences from the Finder menu, click on the General tab, and uncheck the box to open folders in a new tab.
