MacBook Air at memory capacity?!

Just bought a new Air and used Migration Assistant to transfer data from my old Pro. Both computers have same memory capacity, but now my Air is showing that it's nearly at capacity. How is this possible? My pro wasn't even close to at capacity. Did Migration Assistant double install the OS? HELP!

  • Can i exchange the HDD of macbook air with higher capacity?

hello all i would like to ask if i bought the macbook air 128GB, can iexchange the HDD to higher capacity 256 GB later or it can't be exchanged?
also is there is any one know the manufacturing country of the macbook airavailable on the apple.com site? is it made in US or made in China?
    thanks a lot in advance

Hi, it can't be upgraded (well not without some serious warranty voiding surgery to the internals). If you wanted to upgrade you would need to buy another one
Its designed in the US, built in China

  • MacBook Air 2013 SSD capacity?

    Hi all,
I just received my new MacBook Air 13" w/8gb.  I was a bit confused when the total size of the Macintosh HD is reported as approx 121gb.  My 2009 MacBook Pro was upgraded to a 128gb SSD (OCZ Vertex 4, IIRC) and the system reports it as a full 128gb.
I've read the support article here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2419.  I understand for a few releases of Mac OS they're now reporting the GB size in 1000-byte segments, rather than 1024-bytes.  This still wouldn't explain it fully as I'd expect a 128gb drive to appear as ~119gb with 1024 byte units, not 121gb.
Is it expected behaviour that it displays a smaller amount of storage on the SSD?  Why didn't the third-party SSD do this?

    Normal, ....Yes, 120+/- gig Capacity,...
121/120 Free +  6+ gigs plus of OSX files, Applications , drivers,......and dont forget the recovery
Yes, your new in box should show 120 +/- capacity
Here is a picture of my Air in disk utility, showing 87.9 GIg available..,  of which Ive already thrown 33gigs of my own APPS and personal files onto the SSD, on top of the resident OSX files, drivers, resident APPs, ...and the recovery.
33my own stuff + 7gig  +/- resident already in place new out of box + 88gig available (my Air)    = 128Gig

  • MacBook Air hard drive capacity

I have the original MacBook Air; how do I check to see hard drive memory usage & availability? It does not seem to come up under "About this Mac"; any help would be appreciated.

  • Macbook air 2012 charge capacity

    Hello,
I bought my macbook air on the 25th of July 2012. Even though I haven't used it much, the overall capacity has droped to 97-98%, 6546 mAh (the percentage changes sometimes). The number of cycles is 13. I was wondering if this is normal or I'm not using the battery properly. Can you help me? Has this happened to you? Thank you.

For the last three MacBook Airs I have owned, the experience has been similar. Right now, MY 2012 Air, that I bought in June has also 13 cycles, and it is at 96% capacity.
I have been keeping a record of my capacity over time, and I find it goes up and down a percentage point fluctuation almost everytime I check it. Over time, the number of times it goes down by a percentage point, and doesn't go back up, are slightly more numerous. To lose a point every now and again is normal aging of the battery. You will probably find that through the 98-95% range, it will be fairly stable for some time.
Remember this too.... Not every battery even starts out at 100% of the average rated capacity. A few start out higher, a few start out lower than the average figure. Thisis just due to manufacturing imperfections that make it impossible to produce a battery with identical capacity in every copy. The starting figure is simply a quoted average that Apple publishes.

  • I have an early model MacBook Air purchased 2008 with a removable back casing can I purchase and add an additional 2 GB of memory?

I have an early model MacBook Air purchased 2008 with a removable back casing. Can I purchase and add an additional 2 GB of memory?

Whether you open it or not, is completely irrelevant to the question.
All Macbook Airs have memory that is permanently soldered to the logic board, and there are no expansion slots. Hence, no Macbook Air may be upgraded from the memory configuration it had when it was manufactured.
Your system came with 2 Gb, it will always have only 2 Gb.

  • My mid 2011 MacBook Air has slowed down significantly overnight?

Last night my MacBook Air was working fine.
When I went to use it this morning, it has slowed down significantly. It takes awhile for it to respond to trackpad movement or the keyboard. Opening finder is delayed now, opening any app is delayed now. Booting it back up takes extra long now, probably around a minute compared to thirty seconds before.
I've tried an SMC reset, repairing the disk and repairing disk permissions.
From what I can see, the hardware doesn't appear to be failing, but I could be wrong.
Can anyone help me out? What could possibly be going on with my MacBook? How did this happen overnight?

Your MacBook Air's memory is not upgradable, and as you already determined unused storage capacity is not a relevant factor.
There are many reasons a Mac may be performing slower than expected.
Back up your documents and everything else important to you before proceeding.
To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting:
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red.
When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Etrecheck will be in your Downloads folder. Open it from there. You may see the following dialog box:
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or “failed” or anything else that may appear in red.
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.
After completing the above please determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

  • MacBook air versus MacBook Pro

Which is better for video editing: MacBook air or MacBook pro? Which is more durable? What is the difference?

both will do the job for your.
the macbook air having a better resolution than the 13 Inch Macbook Pro.
the macbook air is lighter but not by much if comparing to a 13 Inch Macbook Pro.
the macbook pro however, comes with an optical drive and the macbook air does not.
the macbook pro's memory is upgradeable and the macbook air's memory is fixed.
the best solution for you, go to the apple store or best buy and compare them side by side.
i own 2 macbook pros - a 13 inch and 15 inch - upgraded the RAM to 16GB in both of them and took the hard drive off and installed SSDs in them.  Now I have a very fast Macbook Pro.

  • Configure MacBook Air at Apple Premium Resellers in Singapore

    Hello Community,
I am Abhimanyu, located in Singapore. I have a question for you all: Can I configure MacBook Air at one of the Apple Premium Resellers?
I want to buy 13" MacBook Air, but I need 8 GB Memory, instead of default 4 GB memory. Can I get my system configure at one of Apple Premium Resellers? Is it safe to do it? Does that void warrenty?
BTW, what is difference between Apple Premium Resellers and Apple Authorised Reseller?
If I cannot get MacBook Air configure at Apple Premium Resellers, can I get it configure at Apple Authorised Resellers?

The MacBook Air's memory has to be configured at the factory, it is not possible to change it as it is directly built in to the logic board. See if your reselled can special order one for you from Apple. You can also order them yourself online at http://store.apple.com/sg
    Best of luck.

  • Can i increase my ram capacity on macbook air 11 inch

can i increase my ram capacity on my macbook air 11 inch

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro with Retina display have got the memory soldered onto the logic board, so you can't add or remove memory after buying the computer. This only happens with those computers, and you can add or remove memory in the rest of the Macs

Hello...please i wish to know the capacity of this version of macbook air "macintosh 10.7.4"?

That's the total RAM in your system (Random Access Memory)
The total storage capacity should be 128GB, 256GB or 512GB, the 59.81GB is what is available on your SSD drive.

  • Hitting iMovie 'application memory' limit on MacBook Air when sharing to file)

    Hi Folks,
I'm running iMovie 10.0.1 on a 2011 MacBook Air (2x2 GB DIMM capacity), with Mavericks. I now have 3 edited HD projects there, varying in length from 26 min to 37 min.
I'm able to 'share' any two of these to MP4  files (on an external drive), but I only get two thirds though sharing the third project when I hit an 'application memory' limit, at which point everything freezes.(The same thing happens when sharing to 'Theatre').
I notice that all three projects and their associated 'Events'  'load' when I select 'Projects' in the library (presumably from the external drive to the iMovie application on the MacBook Air drive).
Is there some way to restrict this loading of everything in the library to a single selected project and associated event? Maybe I should move the whole app to the external drive?
Apple tells me that I can't double the DIMMS to the 2013 8 GB level.
    Cheers,
    Alan
(PS How would you like to be playing tennis in the Aussie Open - it's 44 degrees here today!).

    G'day again Geoff,
I did as you suggested above, viz, isolated the remaining event and project from those that have successfully shared (rendered) earlier, by segregating the latter to a separate library in an external drive, leaving only the target event and project on the MBA's flash drive's iMovie library. (My 2011 Air has 4 GB of non-upgradeable RAM).
I confirmed that there were no other apps running, tidied up with  'CleanMyMac', 'MemoryClean' and 'DiskDoctor', and again tried sharing the remaining HD project to file (and later, to Theatre), but as before, iMovie quit halfway through, with a 'run out of application memory' message.
I then tried sharing to file at progressively lower resolutions, but unexpectedly, this didn't help.
Even though an earlier project of similar size (about 30 min) from the same event shared to file successfully, at full HD, I'm making no headway with this one. It 'plays' normally when opened in iMovie, but........?
What haven't I thought of here?
    Cheers,
    Alan
PS We wound the temperature back for Andy Murray, just to help him along into the quarter finals. He's on his own from here against (probably) one of Rafael Nadal, Novak Jokavic and Roger Federer. All four are very popular here (but I'd like to see Andy notch up a grand slam win here in Melbourne. (A little colonial loyalty perhaps?)
