MacBook Air (base model) capability questions.

Hello everyone,
I've been looking at the 11" MacBook Air, I like its size and weight because my work takes me on small float planes and small boats and I must always keep my personal pack compact and lightwieght, and yes im counting ounces.  There is always power available where I'm headed, as I am the elecrician/mechanic sent in to work on the generators ect.(making battery life a minor consideration) The computer will be used for icloud, email, Pages, Numbers, web searches, iTunes (for podcasts & 4-8 GB of music to sync with iPod), maybe an episode of Walking Dead, and facetime. All of which the Air can handle from what I understand. What would be great is a basic 2D drafting type program to make it all I need. I was looking at iDraw and it looks exactly like what I'd need, basicaly a step up from a paint program to draw stright lines, a grid, add scales, text and import the images into Pages.  The only requirments I can find for iDraw is: Intel, Mac OS X 10.6 or later.  My questions are; Does this mean the processor is not important for iDraw? What version of OS X comes with the Air 11"?  Can anyone tell me I am asking too much from the Air at this point? For $100 more I can upgrade the memory to 8GB and Apple will ship the Air with OS X Mountain Lion. But if I dont need to I'd rather not unless this Mountain Lion is awesome I just dont know. (Our MacBook Pro at home is stuck at OS X 10.5.8 and can not support the latest iTunes that supports the Mrs' iPhone 5 but that is her problem and im off topic) I've droped a number of things in the ocean, you never know who is helping you with boat to boat, boat to plane transfers, I dont want an iPad because for that price I rather have a little more computing available and spend the extra money on an Air.
This is the bottom end 11.6" Air (mid 2012) that I have been look at.
1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor
Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz
4GB memory
64GB flash storage1
Intel HD Graphics 4000
OS X (version ??????)
Thank you

Looking at its form factor, the somewhat savvy computer user might think the 11" MBA is a netbook - with all the negatives that entails. Not so - it is a very powerful computer in a small package. Besides iDraw, you might want to look at Intaglio and EazyDraw for your drawing needs - both of which can be found here for a downloadable demo.
Looking at your specs, I strongly urge you to upgrade the hard drive from 64 to 128GB - I only recommend the 64GB model for people who need a second home computer. It is way to easy to fill up that hard drive - especially if you intend to keep any digital media like music and video. You'll be getting OS X 10.8 - Mt Lion - BTW.

Yes.  I ran it successfully on Mountain Lion and had no problems when I upgraded to Mavericks.  Be sure to apply the latest software updates.

  • I have a macbook Air 2008 model no: A1237

i have a macbook Air 2008 model no: A1237, I want to change the screen but don't know what size to order

If you are going to DIY iFixit has lots of Guides, tools and Parts. Once you get the back cover off on the bottom of the display you will see a manufacturer's part number....(for example: B133EW03 V.1 - Note may not be your part number-just for recognition) once you have the part number Google Shopping will help you find compatible or exact matches.

  • I need to import a live analog RCA signal into a Macbook Air 13" model A1466 to record on Final Cut. Is this possible? If so, how?

I need to import a live analog RCA signal into a Macbook Air 13" model A1466 to record on Final Cut. Is this possible? If so, what equipment/cables do you recommend pruchasing?

If you want audio and video from your RCA cable source, you would need a converter device. One that I have used is the EyeTV Hybrid from ElGato. You attach to the Mac via USB, and can attach to RCA composite, Coax, or S-Video. You would record into the EyeTV software and later export to Final Cut for editing. This would not go live into Final Cut Pro.

  • Macbook air 2009 model wont update to OS X 10.10

my macbook air (2009 model) refused to download apps because it's not updated to OS X 10.10, but when i check for a software update, it says there are none available. Im currently using version 10.6.8 but unable to download apps such as facebook or twitter. Everything else seems to be fine, such as downloading music from itunes.

Yosemite (10.10) is not available as an update. It has to be "purchased" at the App Store.

  • Macbook air 2011 model to connect to an external 1080p monitor QUESTION

i have the July 2011 Macbook Air 13". I would like to connect it to a 1080p lcd monitor or an hdtv.
Can anyone recommend a decent model? i do not want to spend more than $300 and would prefer either a 27" or 32"
When connected to an external monitor, will i get higher screen resolutions instead of my 1440x900 that i have on my air?

Its going to be tough to get a "decent" model LCD monitor of that size for less than $300.  A decent model of that size will START at around $300.  That being said, your resolution will depend on what mode you set the monitor at from your Air.  If you set the mode as Mirrored, you will only get the 1440X900 on the Air, but if you set it at Extended Desktop, it should fully fill the monitor.  Also, you can set the external monitor to be the MAIN monitor with the computer operating with the display closed to get the full screen at 1080, but then you will need an external keyboard and mouse.

  • If i'm buying a macbook air 13" model from the US, does its one-year warranty prevails if I use it in India?

    Hello guys,
I'm planning to buy a Macbook Air 13" 256gb model. And I'm willing to buy it from the US as obviously the price there is cheaper than that of India.
So my question is that the one-year apple warranty would still be available to me if something happens to the mac within a year from the date of purchase?
I'm not in mood to pay extra for the apple care protection plan. So just wanted to know whether the basic warranty would still be available if I use it in India and whether it could be repaired in India itself?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your Mac comes with a 1-year international warranty, so you can get it repaired at any country with resellers during the first year of warranty free of charge. The warranty will be valid in India, so you don't have to worry

  • Macbook air does not boot (Question mark icon)

    Hi everyone...
This is actually a friend's problem so will need your guidence in very specific things... He owns a MacBook Air, that no longer boots in the Mac OSX. It just stays blank with the very well known questionmark / finder icon on the screen. As far as my knowledge goes, if it was a MacBook or a MacBook Pro, I would just connect it to my iMac with a firewire cable, turn the MacBook Air on as a hard drive (pressing the T key at start up) and try to back up the files or re-install the OS X if possible. But sadly that's not the case. Air doesn't have a Firewire port and I can't make a connection via USB...
So my questions to you are the following:
    1. Is there any possible way (other than opening Air and removing the disk) to connect MacBook Air with another Mac to try to back up its contents, like the Firewire method?
    2. How can I start the installation process of an OS if MacBook Air can't login (without superdrive obviously)?
I hope to hear from you guys soon, and I thank you in advance for rading all that text...!

First go through this diagnostic proceedure to see if it works.

If that didn't help then to create a clone. You will need the Carbon Copy Cloner app from this site:
    http://www.bombich.com/
Make sure that the system you clone is supported on the MBair that you intend to boot.  For example, 10.7.2 Lion will boot all versions of the MBair.  10.6.8 Snow Leopard will run on all previous MBairs Except the latest July 2011 version which requires Lion.
Use CCC to clone your system to an external disk.  Then plug the disk into the MBair and boot holding the Option key down.  The boot manager will give you the external disk as an option to boot from.
Now that you're running from the clone, you can use and/or repair the internal disk of the MBair.

  • Connect two monitors to macbook air NEW model

    Hi Apple experts
I know that this is not the first time people asking this question, but as I can see it is 1,5 year ago last time people asked.
I have the new 1,6 ghz Macbook Air and I want to connect two external screens which both only have VGA and DVI-connections.
Is it possible to connect the two screens and if yes, which adapters/ eternal equipment is needed?
I work in programs like Word, Excel and Chrome on the mainscreen and the other screen is only for a mail program. So as you can see it is not cpu-heavy programs that need to run.
    Thanks in advance
    Daniel

well ... although the jacks right and getting the occasional question and found that was not what I was looking for:) but I took it that if I was looking for anyway:)

  • Macbook pro vs macbook air- latest models

I am looking to upgrade my mid-2012 Pro to one of the following latest models: MacBook Pro, 4GB 500GB HD or MacBook Air 4GB, 256 Flash Storage.
I am in graduate school so I will using it for papers, research, etc but not for over two classes and not every month of the year. I usually am on everyday browsing the web, checking emails. The main purpose of it would be to watch tv shows via iTunes, Netflix, Hulu. I have purchased many shows from iTunes and have them downloaded in my library so storage is something of importance. I know that the Pro comes with a dvd/cd drive but I rarely use that. I'm not sure I would miss it but I worry. Any advice would be appreciated! Which would be the best for me? Also since I do watch a lot of television on it, how would the retina display benefit me?

Get MBP. it is a real computer. You will be able to do some work on it.

I've got a MacBook Air 13" 2015 model and I'm trying to install Win 8.1. When I run the Bootcamp assistant it fails at downloading the driver stating it had a network error. With this result I tried using multiple other network connection with still no success.

Please run the following commands from OS X Terminal.
    grep apple.com /etc/hosts

  • Macbook  Air 11" - How to question

Hi, I have recently purchased my 1st Macbook (Air 11") - it is being shipped as we speak.
However I was wondering if anyone here could answer this question:
I have a (Graphire2) Wacom tablet that I would like to use with my Macbook Air for such things as sketching etc. The tablet has a disc|driver which is Mac compatible, but I have no idea how to get the tablet installed on my Macbook Air as I cannot use the disc. The tablet has a USB connection, but what must I do about installing a driver?
    Thanx!

If you have another computer that has a DVD drive on it you can use the Remote Disc feature. Either that or you will need to purchase one of the MacBook Air Superdrive's. I see they're $79USD on the Apple Store.
While you are waiting for your machine to arrive you can read the owners manual, on page 19 you can find information on the Remote Disc functionality. The manual is located at:
