Macbook Air Boot failure after SMC reset. HELP.

Hi all.
So, my brand new macbook air may have encountered some water or something, i seriously dont know, but i booted it up this morning and the fan was rather loud, like seriously loud, so i check out activity monitor and the CPU usage was a solid 80% consistently even with no applications running. So i go for an SMC reset, and as i do the reset the charger falls out, literally (useless magnets), anyway i go to turn it on, and all that happens is the LED on the magsafe goes from orange to green then back to orange with no sound, no "tone", no nothing: dead silence.
Im a little concerned to take it in to an apple store as this alleged encounter with liquid that i was told about by my brother makes me fear that the LCI's will make it out of warranty.
I mean it was working fine about ten minutes ago and so surely some wierd SMC hitch cant have completely mucked up the whole thing?
Its the latest model (as in early 2014).
Thanks in advance
Billy

Try a PRAM reset. If that doesnt work, reboot back into that same recovery partition and reinstall the OS, you can use either your old disk or an internet recovery. You will most likely loose your data however so you may want to try and back it up. You can do so through another Mac computer with either an ethernet/firewire cable and an app called "Migration Assistant".
Here are a couple articles that may help:

  • Why won't my macbook air boot up after mountain lion update?

I updated to mountain lion yesterday.  computer acted funny at the end of the night, so i shut the lid.  today, i opened the lid and it didn't turn right on.  so i powered up.  got about halfway into booting, and shut off.  now it won't start up at all.  any help would be awesome!  1,000 karma points to anyone who know what to do, since it won't boot up at all anymore.

it seems to be a power/battery issue.  unplugged, it won't boot up at all.  plugged in, it boots.  as soon as i unplug, macbook air turns off.  hope this helps you problem solving gurus out there.

  • Macbook won't boot up after smc reset

So here goes, my macbook which is a late 2011 model had a trackpad problem which it would move everywhere, open & close softwares, do multitouch gesture on it's own that I couldn't use my macbook anymore. I tried everything, change trackpad setting, language, wipe my trackpad really clean, PRAM reset. Nothing helped. So lastly I tried SMC reset & when it was booting, my macbook was stuck at booting grey screen. No progress at all after an hour. So I turned it of thinking the reset was unsuccessful. Then I tried turning it on again, the grey screen appeared but with the apple logo only & no loading wheel. I waited & about a few minutes later, a folder icon with a question mark on it appeared in place of the apple logo. Then a 'no symbol' appeared a few seconds later. And then the apple logo returned. The cycle repeated one more before macbook turned off on its own. Help please?

  • Macbook Pro Retina crashes after SMC Reset

Hey guys. My macbook pro retina is constantly running its fan at full speed at random times. The fan is always running on high even when I do not have any background apps running. And every time I try to perform SMC reset, my macbook crashes and I have to reinstall OS X all over again. Some other issues are that I cannot update my computer without crashing and having to end up re-downloading the software again. Also, when starting up my macbook on the new Yosemite, the loading bar when logging in gets stuck, which again results in me reinstalling the software or restoring from an old backup. People have suggested replacing the SSD in the computer but I believe it may be the motherboard that may need to replace. I own a Macbook Pro Retina 15" early 2013 running OS X 10.10. And everything is factory when it comes to hardware.

I just bought a new charger and it appears to be working, so looks like that problem was not with my MBP but rather with the charger itself.
I am noticing that my fan is a little quieter now, but still doesn't sound normal. I have looked at Activity Monitor and nothing is using a lot of CPU at all (highest is Chrome at 6%). The MBP does get hot when the fan is going. I have looked at videos for cleaning/replacing the fan, which I think may be a good idea, but I don't have the proper tools at this time. It's something I'll keep looking into.
Also, Chrome and Mail both seem to be working now, randomly, even though I haven't done anything else. It's weird that they both stopped working immediately after I did an SMC reset, but maybe it's just a coincidence?
I will do another SMC and PRAM reset if further problems persist. Thanks for all the help!

  • MacBook Air Kernel Panic after boot

Hi all! Recently, My MacBook Air had been kind of acting up. Everytime when I cold boot it, it would start, then after a few seconds later crash, then a kernel panic would occur after a few seconds. This happens recurringly and I do not know what is the cause of the problem. It seems that this would only happen after a long period inbetween the first boot and the next boot.
Answays, here is my crashlog for reference:

Please help me solve my problem! This has only happened recently after my update to Mavericks.

Any or all of the following third-party system modifications may be contributing to the problem:
    Hamachi
    Elmedia Player
    Razer mouse driver
If the panic is recurrent, I suggest you check that all are up to date, and if they are, uninstall them, one at a time, according to the developers' instructions, to see whether you can determine which is at fault. A conflict between modifications may be involved. Reboot and test after each uninstallation.
Back up all data before making any changes.

Reset your User Account Password for Mountain Lion with the Help of Recovery HD, Go through the steps below.
    > Restart the Mac and hold down Command-R to boot into Mountain Lion’s Recovery HD partition.
    > From the menu choose Utilities > Terminal, and in Terminal type resetpassword and press Return.

  • I am trying to install windows 8 at my macbook air boot camp

I am trying to install windows 8 at my macbook air boot camp but Boot Camp Assistant i showing an error that the disk cannot be portioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disc and use disk utility to format it was a single Mac OS Extended (journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant Again.
I had already installed teh first time Windows on my MacBook Air and Mac Book Pro. Actually I had more issues to install on the pro than Air.
But my Macbook Air had an issue on November 2013, 3 weeks after buying it and Apple gave me a new MacBook Air but they only transferred the information on my mac and the windows partion was lost according to them, they could copy it in to my new MacBook Air. Now that I am trying to install my windows I can not access to the aprtion section and get the error message from above.
What can I do to to install it? I am using a 32GB USB and OEM Windows 8 at USB External Drive. The same I used before. I dont know understand what changed if I did it before?
    Please advise..

I think there's some remmants left over from when Apple transferred stuff over. We can try a quick fix, but if that doesn't work, I think the only option is to clean install OSX and then install Windows.
open disk utility, confirm that you only have 1 partition (mac journaled)
    restart and PRAM reset
open disk utility and repair permissions twice
    restart boot camp assistant
    Does it work?
If not, I would boot holding command+R, choose disk utility from the menu and completely erase your HD (formatting it as mac journaled again). Then, install OSX on this HD. Once OSX is installed, don't copy your files over from the backup yet. Instead, start boot camp assistant and see if you can get Windows installed. You can copy back your other files after we get Windows installed.

  • MacBook Air Boots to OS, then screen goes dark.

I have recently been working on an older style (A1304) MacBook Air with the 128GB SSD. I've been working on Mac's for years, and have worked on hundreds, but this is the first time I've ever come across this particular issue.
Liquid damaged MacBook Air. Keyboard and Trackpad mainly took the brunt of the spill. Popped off the keys, cleaned it all up. Button for the trackpad no longer works, but everything else does. Entire computer was disassembled, no other liquid was found.
MacBook Air boots up normally, and I was using it for a few hours to make sure everything was working fine. Left it to charge. Came back two hours later, and the screen was dark (but the image was still visible, as if the backlight was not on). Could see the mouse pointer moving, but backlight won't come back on. Turned off computer, turned it back on. Backlight works just fine, and it boots to the OS. Within 10 seconds of booting to OS, the screen goes dark (screen goes completely black with no image). Couple seconds later, light on the front starts to "breathe" indicating it's sleeping. Wake it back up, and image appears on the screen, but no backlight. Then it "goes to sleep" again.
Boot computer to a Flash Drive with Snow Leopard Installer and once the blue screen comes on as if the installer is just about to pop up, it "goes to sleep" immediaetly. Though, the backlight and computer will stay on in the Apple Hardware Test for as long as I want. (ran it several times, "no trouble found". Also reset the PRAM, nothing helps.
I was wondering if anyone has ever come across this. Completely baffled on whether it's a software or hardware (or combination of the both) issue I'm having.

The keyboard and trackpad reside on top of the motherboard and all the components of the computer.  The keyboard and trackpad are not liquid proof.  It is VERY likely that the liquid made its way to the motherboard and has affected those components.  If EVER there is liquid spilled on a computer, the last thing you want to do is A. Turn it on to make sure it is working.. and B. Plug it in and charge it.  Do the EXACT opposite.  Unplug and turn off all power, and, if possible, remove the battery from it.  The liquid itself doesnt do the damage...the damage is done when the liquid comes in contact with the circuits and shorts out the contacts and components.  You could try to connect to an external monitor, if you have the means to do so, to see if it makes a difference, but it probably will not.  I seems that the motherboard is not functioning correctly.

  • Cisco 7941G phones will not boot up after factory reset.

Cisco 7941G phones will not boot up after factory reset.
    The following happens.
    1. Speaker light lit (Green)
    2. Phone displays a firmware upgrade page (see attachment) for a few minutes. (Doesn't seems to be upgrading, but it "saids" upgrading)
    3. Saw Cisco logo with a Java Powered page.
    4. The whole thing loops again and again...
I think the reason why the phone isn't booting up is because the phone needs to know where to find the configuration/firmware files from a tftp server. I do have a TFTP server, but normally I need to go in settings to change the alternative tftp server, but the thing is that now I can't even press the settings button...
    Please help.

How many phones were reset and upgrading at one time? What is the setting of the TFTP Maximum Serving Count (Advanced TFTP Service Parm) on each of the TFTP servers?
Sounds like too many devices trying to use TFTP at once.
