MacBook Air boots up then shuts down

My mac book air once turned on goes to the loading screen (the same one as if you turned the mac in for the first time) the wheel turns and behinds to load on the loading bar, it get roughly half way then shuts down?, it never used to go to this loading screen once turned on, it used to go directly to the login area, it happened when I put the laptop on charge although shut it made the booting chime and the apple logo lit up? From then it's done the same thing a constantly shuts down, need help ASAP need the laptop for work on Monday, Thank for any advice anyone can give!

Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

    Great.
You have directory damage.  Which os are you using?  You should not use your computer until the damage has been repaired.  Diskwarrior is what these forums always recommend to repair directory damage.  Techtool Pro will work also.
      Both need to be purchased.

earlier tonight my macbook froze up,So I rebooted upon reboot it froze again at the Apple logo screen just after the chime and immediately shut down. I tried resetting the PRAM that did not work. Any other ideas?

All praise Apple. My laptop came home today. Shipped lovingly boxed from Apple. They replaced the Main logic board, the heatpipe and the connector. FREE OF CHARGE!!!! My macbook is way out of warranty. How can they do this? I am so happy I could cry. What a company!!!!

  • Why does Mountain Lion take a long time to shut down my MacBook Air when I chose "Shut Down?"  Much longer than before the upgrade.

Mountain Lion takes a long time to shut down.  Much longer then Lion.

  • MacBook Air lags, won't shut down

I started having problems with my MacBook just this week. On Monday, after turning it off it wouldn't turn back on again. It was only 12 hours later when it would finally respond and eventually turn on. I thought that was the end of my problems...
Last night it suddenly got really slow. I closed all my applications, but it still continued to lag. It takes a long time to load any applications, the cursor lags when I try to bring it across the screen, and it's too slow to process switching between different main screens when you swipe the track pad. The beach ball comes up of you try and do anything.
At first I was scared to turn it off because I was afraid it wouldn't turn back on again. But it's pretty much unusable right now anyway, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Now it won't turn off. Right in time for my exams.
I have around 120GB of space left so its not that it's too full, and I've already tried the verify/repair process with the hard drive.
Any suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Make sure you quit out of all programs prior to shuting down if you have not done so.
Boot up from your install DVD and run "Repair Disk" from the Utility menu.

  • Late 09 iMac 27 will not boot up then shuts down

Second occurrence of this issue in roughly 2 months:
    1st time: pre-Mavericks
2nd time: after HD reformat and Mavericks install, both at Genius Bar
I get the tone, logo, gear, progress bar to roughly 10%, then shutdown. I cannot even get into safe mode or try disk utility. The various resets (pram, etc...) do not work either
I took it to the genius bar and they reformatted the HD and all was well for a couple of months.  I do not have any 3rd party SW except for iBank, MS Office, and printer drivers.  As with the first time this popped up, I had a couple of warning reboots before this.  I was able to save my large iPhoto file.
So, is this a HW issue? If not what SW problem would cause the same issue again if the HD was reformatted once already?
Debating pitching the iMac and going Mac Mini, all we use the Mac for is finances, email, and iPhoto.
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

  • Macbook air (2012) with Lion shuts down when waking up from sleep mode

Looking for solutions to this problem, which occurs about 30-40% of the time after computer wakes up from sleep.  Doesn't seem to be related to the length of time that computer sleep or whether I put it to sleep manually or it does so automatically.  I've read in other forums that upgrading to Mountain Lion does not solve the problem.

You might try resetting the SMC:

  • Mac won't boot, Grey bar appearing at the bottom of Apple Logo then shuts down

    Hi,
I'm using a Late-2011 Macbook Pro and it is running on OS X Mavericks. One day, my laptop just shut itself down and when I turn it on, it won't boot. It just gives me a grey progress bar under the apple logo then shuts down. I tried accessing the DU and tried verifying and repairing the disk but I am unable to copy my files to another drive. It gives me an input/output error. I am not very tech savvy and I badly need my files. Please help!
    Thanks in advance.

  • MacBook Air Boots to OS, then screen goes dark.

I have recently been working on an older style (A1304) MacBook Air with the 128GB SSD. I've been working on Mac's for years, and have worked on hundreds, but this is the first time I've ever come across this particular issue.
Liquid damaged MacBook Air. Keyboard and Trackpad mainly took the brunt of the spill. Popped off the keys, cleaned it all up. Button for the trackpad no longer works, but everything else does. Entire computer was disassembled, no other liquid was found.
MacBook Air boots up normally, and I was using it for a few hours to make sure everything was working fine. Left it to charge. Came back two hours later, and the screen was dark (but the image was still visible, as if the backlight was not on). Could see the mouse pointer moving, but backlight won't come back on. Turned off computer, turned it back on. Backlight works just fine, and it boots to the OS. Within 10 seconds of booting to OS, the screen goes dark (screen goes completely black with no image). Couple seconds later, light on the front starts to "breathe" indicating it's sleeping. Wake it back up, and image appears on the screen, but no backlight. Then it "goes to sleep" again.
Boot computer to a Flash Drive with Snow Leopard Installer and once the blue screen comes on as if the installer is just about to pop up, it "goes to sleep" immediaetly. Though, the backlight and computer will stay on in the Apple Hardware Test for as long as I want. (ran it several times, "no trouble found". Also reset the PRAM, nothing helps.
I was wondering if anyone has ever come across this. Completely baffled on whether it's a software or hardware (or combination of the both) issue I'm having.

The keyboard and trackpad reside on top of the motherboard and all the components of the computer.  The keyboard and trackpad are not liquid proof.  It is VERY likely that the liquid made its way to the motherboard and has affected those components.  If EVER there is liquid spilled on a computer, the last thing you want to do is A. Turn it on to make sure it is working.. and B. Plug it in and charge it.  Do the EXACT opposite.  Unplug and turn off all power, and, if possible, remove the battery from it.  The liquid itself doesnt do the damage...the damage is done when the liquid comes in contact with the circuits and shorts out the contacts and components.  You could try to connect to an external monitor, if you have the means to do so, to see if it makes a difference, but it probably will not.  I seems that the motherboard is not functioning correctly.

It varies. Some do not even last 1 year but others 4+ years.
    Apple provides only 1year warranty.

Is the little LED on your adapter's MagSafe plug glowing when it's connected? What color?
It sounds as though your battery is drained and the adapter isn't charging it. Try resetting the SMC:

That may start the battery charging again.

  • I am trying to install windows 8 at my macbook air boot camp

I am trying to install windows 8 at my macbook air boot camp but Boot Camp Assistant i showing an error that the disk cannot be portioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disc and use disk utility to format it was a single Mac OS Extended (journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant Again.
I had already installed teh first time Windows on my MacBook Air and Mac Book Pro. Actually I had more issues to install on the pro than Air.
But my Macbook Air had an issue on November 2013, 3 weeks after buying it and Apple gave me a new MacBook Air but they only transferred the information on my mac and the windows partion was lost according to them, they could copy it in to my new MacBook Air. Now that I am trying to install my windows I can not access to the aprtion section and get the error message from above.
What can I do to to install it? I am using a 32GB USB and OEM Windows 8 at USB External Drive. The same I used before. I dont know understand what changed if I did it before?
    Please advise..

I think there's some remmants left over from when Apple transferred stuff over. We can try a quick fix, but if that doesn't work, I think the only option is to clean install OSX and then install Windows.
open disk utility, confirm that you only have 1 partition (mac journaled)
    restart and PRAM reset
open disk utility and repair permissions twice
    restart boot camp assistant
    Does it work?
If not, I would boot holding command+R, choose disk utility from the menu and completely erase your HD (formatting it as mac journaled again). Then, install OSX on this HD. Once OSX is installed, don't copy your files over from the backup yet. Instead, start boot camp assistant and see if you can get Windows installed. You can copy back your other files after we get Windows installed.
