Macbook Air constantly requests restart - solutions?
I've had my macbook air for about eight months and so far it's given me the gray "please restart your computer" message about fifty times. There's never any correlation between what I'm doing at the moment the message pops up, so it seems as though I'm not causing it personally. Does anyone know the most likely problem? Thanks a lot!
It sounds like a kernel panic, thus the problem that occurs when the panic message appears would be written into the panic.log (viewable within the Console). Without knowing what the log file says it's near impossible to speculate on the issue.

Mid-2012 MacBook Air WiFi Reconnect-Partial Solution
The MacBook Air seems to have some significant WiFi issues for a lot of users. My issue is as follows: the MacBook will connect to any compatible WiFi hot-spot with no problems, and it will maintain the connection almost always. The problems come when I try to reconnect to the internet over the same WiFi hot-spot after waking up the MacBook. Even more frustratingly, the problem is not consistent. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. After some investigation, I have come to the conclusion that reconnection problems happen when:
You wake the computer up from computer sleep (not display sleep or Power Nap)
You are using a specific cable modem (the one I tested on was a Motorola SURFboard SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0)
You have not restarted your cable modem while your MacBook was asleep
The MacBook Air will connect to the WiFi network (i.e., it can access other devices in the wireless LAN) when woken from computer sleep; it just will not connect to the internet
The only way to get the connection back is to restart the cable modem. Restarting the MacBook, restarting your WiFi base station (in my case a brand new AirPort Time Capsule tower), having the MacBook forget the WiFi network and then reconnect--all do not work. But if I just restart the cable modem, the MacBook connects with no problems. This is a problem specific to the MacBook Air because none of my other devices ever have a problem connecting to the network after waking up from sleep (including a Lenovo ThinkPad E530c). As has been proposed in some of the many discussions about MacBook Air WiFi issues, I think it has to do with the bleeding-edge power saving modes that the MacBook Air enters in to when it goes to sleep. Apparently, the computer sleep mode will cause it to not be able to reconnect to the internet, so it seems to be some sort of incompatibility or bug between the MacBook Air and the cable modem--in my case, the Motorola SURFboard.
So that's the problem, but I do have a partial solution while the engineers figure out a fix. Set the System Prefs > Energy Saver setting on the MacBook to never go into computer sleep (I set it only for Power Adapter, not Battery). In my case, this is a workable solution because I have my MacBook Air plugged in at home almost all the time. I have lived with these settings for a couple of days now and whenever I wake up my computer, it still has the internet connection and works as expected. And if for some reason I don't plug it in and it goes into computer sleep, I don't waste time troubleshooting. I just restart the cable modem and after a minute or so, the internet connection is re-established. I'd be curious to know how many cable modems this happens with, and if anyone has a fix having to do with cable modem settings (the Motorola SURFboard, to my knowledge, doesn't have a web app interface to tweak settings, perhaps because my cable company doesn't want me tweaking things, but I frankly have not spent any time researching that end of things).
Hopefully this will help some MacBook Air owners (is this an issue with MacBook Pros?) that have this problem.
Good luck!Have the same problem. Was OK for nearly two years then started two days ago.

Macbook Air unable to restart after a "complete restart attempt"
Hi,
I wanted to get my Macbook Air cleaner to work easier this Summer. So I pressed : Command-R while restarting, and deleted the partition called "Macintosh HD". I'd already done it before, so I wasn't frightened at all. I turned the computer off again, and restarted it while pressing Command-R a second time. The fact is, it showed me exactly what I wanted to : The "livebox list". But my livebox wasn't in it, so, I restarted the computer after waiting a few minutes.
When I pressed Command-R again, it showed me the Earth, turning, and a message saying it is actually looking for an update on Apple's server, but it may take time. After 2 seconds, the Earth stopped her rotation, got a big exclamation point on her face, and had written under her : "apple.com/support - 2006F".
I looked for 4 hours, but nothing could help my Macbook to download Mavericks again.
Thank you,
Paul.
NB : Sorry for this poor english D:Try this. I am assuming your MBA came with Lion (10.7) or later.
Boot the MBA withe the OPTION+COMMAND+R keys.
This should result in a display with a revolving globe.
This will connect you to the Apple servers and will determine what the original OSX was for your MBA.
Follow the installation instructions.
You will need a solid Internet connection.

MacBook Air won't restart after installing Mavericks
My MacBook Air (v Fall 2011) won't restart after installing Mavericks. I have done the instal several times, done the disk repair, I have had 2 visits to the local Apple store where they installed Mavericks with their software only to return home and have it fail again. Does anyone know of issues with the SSD or memory?
Next visit to the Apple store is Tuesday morning 12-17-13. Anywthing that can help us would be appreciated. Tks DavidOk. Nevermind. I guess I had to Force Quit/Relaunch Finder.

How can I get my Macbook air to restart? Each time I try to restart my laptop, I am unable to because it says "mail cancels the restart". However I am unable to quit mail. Please Help.
Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window.
If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -
Can't update software because Macbook Air won't restart properly
I own a late 2010 Macbook Air and have recently bought OS X Mountain Lion.
After going through steps to update the most recent version of OS X Mountain Lion, I find that my mac fails to startup properly and beeps once
before taking several attemps to restart. When it eventually does, the software doesn't update.
Other updates install without a problem, it's just when they require restarting.
Please explain small details as I have little knowledge when it comes to this topic.
Please help and thank you in advance!!The beep indicates a memory fault.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair

10.6.5 installed, MacBook Air dead after restart
I've just seen a report that somebody killed his MacBook Air with the 10.6.5 update. How does that happen? Is the upgrade safe to install? The report was on trick77.com
I (tried to) update to 10.6.5 on my Macbook Air 11.6" last thursday evening. *Sadly this resulted in the death of the machine*. Despite being connected to mains through out the machine never restarted after the install. *Pressing the power button does absolutely nothing*.
I took it in to the 'Genius Bar' the following morning. The 'genius' told me there was nothing that could be done. A replacement is on its way.
Luckily i had everything backed up so haven't lost any data but it is still a major inconvenience. Because mine was a custom spec (4GB ram instead of 2GB) they were unable to replace it in store - i have to wait probably a week an a half for it to be shipped and delivered.
*_My advice:_ definitely do a full backup before updating to 10.6.5, but if were you i'd wait a while. There's a number of reports of this issue, and there's bound to be more over the coming days as more people attempt to install the update. You can live without 10.6.5 for a week or two, wait until more is known.* -
Macbook Air 2013 sometimes restart when lid is closed
I have a macbook air with specs below, we don't usually shutdown (convenience sake) we just closed the lid etc...
we recently noticed that its sometimes restarts itself even when the lid is closed, I also noticed that sometimes the wakeup doesn't work. I have to
long press the power button so it could boot itself.
model: late 2013
OS: mavericks
anyone else experience this?thanks for the advice, for awhile there it thought it worked but today it happened again. What i noticed is that the WIFI was disabled after the restart.
i've captured the logs. maybe I should return it for servicing???

My macbook air doesn't restart again
hi guys! when i restart my macbook air, it can't turn on again and just apple mark is seen. i install mac os and the same problem causes again .in disk utility during installation the driver which contains the operator system is seen that lost all data but the other drivers are safe. can someone help me please what the problem is it? and what should i do?
Back up all data before making any changes.
If you've installed something called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and reboot. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
If you've installed an equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and reboot.
If there's no improvement, or if you're not aware of having installed anything that fits the description, post again. -
My macbook air won't restart.
If I have my air on for about 6 to 7 hours and I try to restart, it goes to the grey screen and just has the grey circle status bar that just keeps spinning. I actually have to hold the power button to restart the machine or turn it off. Any ideas?
I have had the exact same problem for a month now. Let me guess, after you have to turn it off by holding the power button, it works fine, restarts fine. But if you try to restart a few hours later, it still wont restart?

Macbook Air constantly rebooting after installing Mavericks... this was my fix
Just in case this helps anyone.
I installed Mavericks on my Mac without an issue. When it restarted, my Mac would constantly reboot after a few minutes. It didn't matter if I logged in or not. I tried the various things that have been suggested (reset NVRAM, CMOS, running a disk check) but nothing help. If I booted into safe mode, I would not have any problems.
The issue ended up being some systems extensions in my /System/Library/Extensions folder. I had installed and deleted Trend Micro Smart Surfing a while ago by using the manual uninstall (move the application to the trash) which leaves the system extensions it had added intact (there was a Trend Micro folder in /System/Library/Extensions).
I reinstalled the software and then used the uninstaller that came with the program and after I rebooted, everything worked fine. I checked the /System/Library/Extensions folder and could see that the Trend Micro folder had been removed by the uninstaller.
I would suggest looking at the /System/Library/Extensions folder and comparing to what is in the applications folder. If you something in the extensions folder but not in the application one, you might be having the same type of issue that I was having.
AlexStartup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys so you can access the built in utilities to repair the startup disk and restore OS X using OS X Recovery.

My MacBook Air constantly pairs with my friend's MacBook Pro
Even though we aren't saved devices it constantly connects to each other. When we hit disconnect, it pairs again within a second. There is no way to "forget this device." I really don't want my battery draining while we're constantly synced. Is there any way to prevent this?
Hi adammilon,
Have you tried booting into safe mode and other steps to isolate the issue?

Hello,
I'm trying to upgrade to Yosemite and update some apps, and when I click "update" it tells me to restart. Then, when I click restart I get the following message "The Finder can't quit because some operations are still in progress. You can cancel or stop the operations, and then try again." [screenshot of it is below] However, when I open Finder to see what's "in progress" there are zero programs running (other than Finder). Is there some secret other place I can go to quit whatever this mystery operation is? Help would be much appreciated! Thanks. You can open Activity Monitor in your Utilities folder and see what processes are still running and have not quit as they should. Select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Or hold down the Power button until the computer shuts down.
